This is Awesome Note app that comes pre installed in all new GNote series (Note II, Note 8.0), tested on GTab 2 7.0'' but i should work on GTab 2 10.1'' too. :laugh:
TIP: To see all folders, you'll have to edit and delete some to fit to your screen. do it by pressing folder button in the bottom. :good:

Looks very nice, too bad it's unusable on 7" GTab 2... Looks like the problem with the screen resolution, as some elements are beyond the screen boundaries, and I couldn't find the way to make it work. You can neither see all the folders on the left, nor all the content on the right, whether in portrait or landscape...Might be good on 10" (don't have it, so can't test), but definitely not on 7".

Actually, it's not, at least not for me... What I mean is that when you scroll through folders on the left, it's not a smooth scrolling, but one page at a time, and the "page" is larger than the screen. And even if you remove some folders to eliminate the need for scrolling, you have to keep their number so small that it fits our screen. So, you can't select certain folders, no matter what you do - the app just hides them beyond your screen boundaries. Look at the screenshot example: there are 4 more folders at the bottom on the left, and no way to get to them. And one more item on the right, also out of reach.
It's only usable if you have a very small number of folders to fit the screen on the left, and a very specific number of content items on the right. Kinda like a crippled demo version, I'd say...

Yeah, I noticed that right now that you tell me...
in portrait mode you can reach:
-My Idea; My Diary; travel Journal; Shopping; To-do; Aniversary; My Calendar; Work; Recipe; Thoughts..
By rotating to landscape you can use Email/Print... so we can't reach Scrap and Study folders...
But by pressing folders button, in the bottom... you can edit the order or delete folders that you didn't use!
It will look like this...
Yes, you can do that. But that's what I mean by "crippled" version - you can't use the full intended functionality of the app, you have to always keep in mind the limitations and work around them. The usability depends on your tolerance level for the annoyances, I guess... But it's a great app, for sure.

I grabbed this today, and I'm quite impressed. I've been using Big Keys for a while, but they haven't gotten around to including user-dictionary support or auto-correction. This app is very nice, and its skinnable interface should be great for themers.
I also like the hold to access special characters feature, and guestures, those really help when trying to type fast. I only wish the up/down guestures would change capitalization, not hide the keyboard.
so what you think?

Is it just me or does the sound for the kepyboard not turn off. I go to the settings under local & text and the sound setting under better keyboard is not checked but It still makes sounds when I press the keyboard. What gives?

UPDATE:
I dont know how I did it but I got the sound to turn off.
only complaint is that in the browser, and you press menu-->go on the bottom of the keyboard the words "press and hold the left most word" cover most of it and even though it goes away when u press the bottom buttons, its still annoying

I'm gonna guess more expensive. I doubt they will charge for a week & then go free. It would more than likely go the other way.
Either way, I see no point in paying for a bigger keyboard when the HTC_IME & HTC_CIME are prefectly installable on all builds. I have both the Android & HTC_IME running perfectly on JF1.5
Sure this one is easier skinned than those but with a little work, the others can be skinned also. Its not hard, just a little time consuming. Just my 2 pennies

2 bucks for an app to change skin of keyboard is too much, don't get me wrong i live to customize and love open home but there's no way. The nes emulator was 2 dollars and that provides about 500 bucks worth of enjoyment.
They gave permission to use the skins freely if you want to rip them and use in your own keyboard. So 2$ for those who don't want to do the edits is pretty fair I think.

What do you think about it? Is this is a really revolution?
I think this phone looks very nice with a stunning UI. The technical specs are nothing special, but this could be quite a hit i think.
thats a savage ass phone, you kno what would be sick tho if you could change the color of all the LED's on it two from blue to like purple or something. It's linux it should be fully customizable like that
I love the look of this phone. Very appealing. I will be interested in seeing more about it.
This would be the perfect MP3 Player. But for a smartphone, I do not know if it will offer the extreme flexibility of any of the four TRUE smart phones: Symbian S60, Windows Mobile, Android.
Does this phone have a file system, etc? Also, does Palm Pre and Palm Pixi have a file system and file manager too?
But I've seen this phone before, and I was excited, and still am.
I just don't expect it to be smart-centric. I expect it to be more like a Zune HD experience with some "quasi-smart" features like on the iPhone.
Original Poster, I think you should compile links on the first post and make this the official ELSE anticipation and discussion thread.
More Links http://else.bz/

But there are a few things I would like to know more about this phone.
*Judging by the Flash Videos, the keyboard on the phone sucks (but there are some pretty cool features). But the reason why it sucks is mainly due to the layout and size of the keys both in portrait and qwerty.
*I haven't seen any file manager. Will it be on this phone, and how complex is it?
*Speaker quality?

He was talking about the buttons being on the right side of the phone. Easier for us left-handers to use. I don't think you can change hardware location in settings
Use it upside down maybe!! too bad for you!! Does look interesting, but not entirely better than tab bars and such.. it does have that added sliding left feature and I guess it being capacative would not require much tension from the thumb. I am always up for new technology to push the limits.

Wow, maybe the device will not only have rotate orientation buy also flip orientation. That would be awesome!
It's all going to come down to how they market this phone. It looks great and definitely has appeal to those of us with a technical background and who love customization. But what carrier will they market it to? Can it be customized to settings that people find interesting such as led colors, programs, etc? and the biggest one: WHO will they allow to carry the operating system. Getting google to back this would be great, getting Nokia to make a phone able to support this would be great, but which one will have the advertising budget to challenge Apple and the like to the duel that will occur when this and the next generation of iphones is released? A small company like Access is going to have a really hard time trying to compete with Motorola, Nokia, Google, Samsung and Apple especially.
I'm sorry for reviving a dead thread, but does anybody know the name of this phone and the maker? I think the phone failed to launch and the maker went out of business and that's making it hard for me to find any information on this. A name should help, thanks.
The Linux based smartphone have actually been out for awhile. I think (Don't hold me to word on this) there is one called tuxphone. But I'm not sure if that's Linux based when I think back on it...

So I was kind of wondering why the native horizontal resolution of our screen is larger then my original template. I started playing around with the ddms.bat in the SDK and sure enough the native resolution of the screen capture was 1280 horizontal. So I knew my original template was wrong and this explains the small amount of blurriness when the wallpaper is applied.
After a bit more playing in photoshop with the screen caps from ddms and this lovely aspect ration tool, I give you all the proper Xoom Wallpaper template. Same as last time the PSD is attached in the zip file below.

I gave up on looking for the "perfect" templates because in the end all you are doing is producing an image that looks good ONLY in landscape or ONLY in portrait.
You should include what the images are going to look like in both modes, just for brevity.

Thats not really true. This would be the same issue on ANY android device it was used in landscape mode. The problem is that the Wallpaper crop tool is still setup for portrait use, thus we need a guide to make sure what we want visible shows correctly.
What I would really like to do is edit the crop tool to add in 4 additional guides that would show what portion of the image will show on the desktop. It would not be hard to do if I know what to edit.
xoom from Moto
I understand that. But what I do not get is releasing this OS for Xoom with so many quirks. I have worked in Android for phones for a couple years. I have worked with Moto in the past, and the combo Moto/Android is not a good combo on tablet. Moto still does not get the consumer.
Just my opinion. I like the xoom and that is why I am a bit frustrated. It was a chance to regain a bit of market share. But for a consumer iPAD(which I also have) the xoom is way too problematic.
Ok so I don't have photoshop but when I used this template with gimp...my images were still not fitting the screen properly
Just to explain what this does:
- The image portion of the wallpaper (almost) fits the screen perfectly.
- The top black bar only appears when in app drawer. That's why I a have "Applications" labeled there, so it appears in the background.
- The bottom black bar appears when in "+" or widgets view, which is the reason why I labeled it "Add-ons"
- The white all-around bar is the section that won't show up at all when using XoomWallpaper_2.zip
So here is a "template" I made in GIMP. I attached both the .xcf for GIMP and also the actual .png wallpaper for those who want to try it to see what it does.
EDIT: XoomWallpaper.zip is for larger images (eg. 1892x903) and XoomWallpaper_2.zip is for smaller images (eg. 1132x540)
PS: I use "wallpaper set and save" to set my wallpapers. So I don't need to crop the image.
Hey guys! So I was messing around today and had this idea. Ever since everything is going 3D, how cool would a 3D Stock app drawer be. So I messed around with Gimp and came up with something that I think is really cool:
NORMAL
{

"lightbox_share": "Share",

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
TILTED
Basically this would work by the accelerometer. So when the device is held in a normal position the app drawer would appear in the normal 2D veiw but as the device is tilted thats when the Icons would appear to be 3D. A couple more features I would like to see with this is as your fingers scroll up/down the Icons would sorta gently "wobble" because they are being moved. Also a setting would have to be added to settings so that the 3D feature could be turned off.
You may notice these images are of the Sense 2.1 app drawer and in reality Sense 2.1 would not work for a base. It would have to be done on an Sense 3.0 Rom. I'm not a code writer and I wouldn't even know where to begin to make this thing happen or if its even possible at this time. If any knowledgable devs would like to step and help out I would really like that. This is MY idea. I produced it first so don't take it and try to claim it first without my permission. I want to remain part of this project.
So, what do yall think, is this possible?
that looks awesome
No offense but LOL!
I think it's definitely possible however I think you should reconsider the labels under the icons as they are very hard to read.
And by tilted do you mean actually physically tilting the phone using the accelerometer? I think that might work but keep in mind that constantly pulling data from the accelerometer might drain the battery a bit quicker.
I was about this with the desktop icons... I have 3D widgets, why not 3D icons?

Well obviously since this was just a quick rendering on Gimp it dosn't look as clear as it would as a final product. I'm sure if this really did come to be, there could be a very small effect on the battery. But who really cares? Sense 3.0 does a fine job of that anyways. And it really dosn't matter because we are learning new ways to control that and make it better everyday. What we are about is proving to the device manufactures that we can take there products and make them better than what they could or should have. I don't know about yall... but thats what I'm about.
All right. I submitted this idea to HTC. Lets see if I get any feedback.
A very very awesome idea.

Good idea. I've wondered why they haven't also implemented a 3d paginated app drawer, similar to the way rosie flips its homescreens. Seems like it would flow nicely, maybe make it optional.
Picture this: when you first boot the phone (or after reboot), you open the app drawer with this and the it slowly scrolls up with this: Brought to you by Wildstang (in fancy star wars font), the star wars theme plays, and then the apps scroll up under it. Awesome or not?
This would require that R2D2 boot animation and a star wars theme of course. It would be fun to make though.

As you can see, this lucky guy managed to get and use the Nexus already. Discuss!
Probably a store manager who demo'ed it to some employees. There are additional apps, which shows at least a decent amount of time with the device. Perhaps someone carrying it around as a teaching tool?
I'm hoping it's there already though. I can't imagine it would be too difficult to go there (Heerhugowaard) and snoop around with some of the more knowledgeable-looking employees.

Check out this table and see for yourself. It's definitely not capable of showing true black, but that was to be expected. The Nex4 does indeed sport the same screen as the [scratch Gnex, stupid me] Optimus G.
Edit: ^
Remember though, LCD screens will be blacker in light areas, but in a dark room it will show that off black we see, more like grey.
On the second photo, there's a folder named 'LG' on the homescreen. That's not bloatware is it??
