Backed up my phone using LG PC suite to do a factory reset. Opened up PC suite again to do the restore to find their is no restore points and the message:
"You have not restored your data since you installed LG PC Suite."
I know it has backed up my phone as there is a 900mb file with the relative date in the backup directory but PC suite doesn't seem to be recognizing it.
Any suggestions on how i might get LG PC Suite to recognize the backup file or how i can do it manually some how.
Regards
Elliot.
Hey,
I had the same problem, just fire up LG PC Suite, go to Device -> Import to device -> Backup -> Yourfile. There are two file extensions, but assuming u are here because u have a LG 4X HD, then you need the brinfo. Just click on what files to show, select brinfo and then select the file. Then just follow the on-screen instructions. Good luck

Hey thanks for the reply, I thought you had saved me but unfortunately It's "Unable to import a backup file. After adding the Google account as the account that set when backed up to your device, try again.". But my Google accounts are the same?
any suggestions?
I did the backup before i performed a factory reset to fix the lag on the new jelly bean update. Could it be because of the update that i can't restore?
Cheers Elliot

I have the same problem, did you solve your? please help
In order to load your backup file from pc you have to go first to your LG MOBILE and add there your gmail account. To do that you go to Settings > General > Accounts and you add it. After you have done that you may proceed connecting your mobile with LG PC Suite and load your backup file as mentioned above.

hello good day
is there a way to backup all my contacts even if i cant properly open my phone? im using a galaxy s i9000 with MIUI rom. i got bugged and is now stuck in the bootscreen (not bootloop) because my battery drained and it turned off automatically (refer to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30683237#post30683237 for more of the details). is there a way to backup those saved contacts just by using the computer alone? thanks for reading and may you help me
Hey guy,
try to do a Nandroid Backup if you can enter CWM. These should save your contacts
Otherwise you could follow these instructions:
1)
reboot into cwm
go to mount and storage
go to usb storage / your internal usb storage should shown up on your pc now
backup all data via copy and past (don't forget the hidden folders!)
2)
use ADB comands to pull your contacts (only recommended for advanced users!)
best regards and good luck

If you have synchronized your contact with Google you can get all your contact back just by signing into Gmail.

rfadzz - the simplest is to use the gmail, but you can try Kies or for example I use MyPhoneExplorer on PC. It is possible to save all from your phone on PC.
Try http://www.xda-developers.com/android/ultimate-backup-tool-no-root-required/

Recently tried flashing different roms on my Galaxy Note. Now that I'm done, I'm having problems restoring my contact list which I backed up using Kies.
My Note is on ICS 4.0.4 and I can't connect to Kies. I know a lot of people have encountered the same problem. How do I get Kies to recognize my Note again? Used to work fine before I upgraded.

Uninstall kies completely, then install new updated kies from Samsung website,u can also use another usb port (main ports like rear ones) ,for the contacts if they are backed to google just make sync,if not u can import the csv file directly from ur google account-contacts -import, then make sync or wait for it.

Hello kuplet, a relatively hassle free method of keeping a backup of your contacts without using Samsung Kies is,
Contacts > Menu key > Import/Export > Export to SD card.
The backup of your contacts will be saved in your external storage (memory card) as a .vcf file.

Make sure USB debugging is disabled in Settings>Developers Options>USB Debugging.

Above thing works to backup, OP doesn't have contacts on his device, above mentioned trick works if he already have backup with Import/export function or he had already sync contacts to google server.
instead OP have backup his contact to kies
Though no words from OP since creating thread, he might have manage to get device connected. still writing here solution if someone have same situation.
Here is solution.
1.Open kies (dont worry if you unable to connect)
2.Select contacts - Open contact backup file (spb format)
3.Now you can see contacts on page
4. Create a folder e.g. Contacts (on desktop PC)
5.Now from kies screen where you can see all contacts - select all
6.select Save as and browse to folder you have create, Now it will give option to save in spb, dont do that but just add .vcf in file name.
7.All contacts will be there in new folder
8.Copy contacts folder to SD card
9.From device open contact - menu - import/export - import from (select USB storage/Ext Sd depend on you put contact folder)
10.select multiple/all vcf file
Done !
PS : Let me know smthing missing, except to install driver I never using Kies
Sorry for the later reply guys.
@sahilarora2003
I tried unchecking usb debugging and the Kies prompts me to "check it" again before it tries to connect to my Galaxy Note. In short, the Kies doesn't want to run with my device without the usb debugging unchecked.
@Dr ketan
Trying it now and hopefully it works. You have any suggestions on how can restore my text messages? Made the mistake of just backing it up via Kies. I should have used backup and restore. Lastly, whats the best way to backup contacts, etc since Kies is so unreliable.

Use titanium backup with schedule (find link to thread how to keep device up to date on my signature)
Text msgs i think won't work, but do try this
Rename your SMS backup file SMS.sme to SMS.xml
Install SMS backup restore app fro market, copy above renamed file to SMSbackuprestore fiolder (creates automatically once you install this app) and open that application and try to restore by pointing that file. I doubt it work or not, it depends on format which kies uses.
@Thanks Dr Ketan
Was able to move my contact list from the Kies to my device but was not successful with moving the SMS backup. When trying to restore, an error occurs. Oh well....thanks again!

Hi folks,
I've done a fair bit of searching and although it has been briefly discussed before I can't see any recent mentions about Helium (aka Carbon) from clockworkmod (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.backup&hl=en).
The Google Play store page for the app mentions that the app doesn't work on the Xperia S and Z due to some changes Sony made, however when I first got my Xperia Z (at launch in the UK), I was able to backup app data (and some apks) from my Galaxy S3 and restore them onto the Xperia Z without any issues.
Given there have been a few software updates from Sony since launch, does anyone have any recent experience with Helium, specifically whether it works correctly to backup and restore to the Xperia Z? I couldn't find a suitable thread or forum to try to ask the developer directly what the specific issues were with the Xperia S and Z that led to the warning on the app page.
I had a problem restoring Apps with this app after full factory reset. It always crashed. Tried to restore from SD card and CLOUD. on my galaxy s3 it works fine. The build in sony's backup and restore app is doing great.

I did the backup, saved it on the internal storage, copied it on my computer, unlocked my phone, rooted it, installed helium, copied the backup to the internal storage and... when i try to restore the backup from the internal storage it doesn't find it... I am now trying to reinstall it, don't give it su and see if I see the backup... if I don't see it... well.. idk what to say... I do a backup and then I cannot restore it? nice (sarcastic)

If you're still interested.. (if u want the app data. i.e : savegames) I found a way.. Just keep those backup files in your computer. And then download the apps you want to restore.. Then make backups of them again.. Then they will have those backup up files in the "Carbon" folder. Then copy the folders inside without the "nomedia" file. It then the app will show the backup & viola... Apps restored...

Is there something weird about the way messages are stored in general? Everything else seemed to work - the one thing I can't seem to figure out is how to restore text messages (com.android.providers.telephony.ab) - I've tried to do it as a whole app using the PC interface, tried copying the folder as a replacement via Android File Transfer to the 'carbon' folder, etc.
When I try to restore via helium server, it quickly shows me everything as restored but I don't see the messages. When I try to do it manually (e.g. force copy), I don't see an option under "Restore and Sync" to actually select messaging.
Am I missing something stupid / obvious? The raw data seems to be there (for example, call logs were uploaded just fine, text messages seem to have an issue).

So I came up with a solution based on what works for others. Why this works when it didn't previously is beyond me, but hopefully someone else can use it if individual parts of their Helium backup don't work properly (in theory it should work for any app / SQL dataset). The whole point of Helium is that we're running non-rooted phones and so Titanium Backup or the like aren't applicable. For reference, I'm running an N4 to OSX 10.7.x
1. Use the Helium Server to create a full backup.
2. Wipe phone or whatever you need to do (I had to do a factory reset for Google since it's an N4 and my proximity sensor is dead).
3. Install the apps you had previously via Play Store (pain in the a**).
4. Run Helium server and upload the backup data.
5. Update apps as needed (should be auto but who knows for individual stuff).
6. Check app data in apps. Texts are obviously easy to see for me. Hopefully everything restored nicely for you here.
***Now for the bit for people who got corrupted restores.
7. Unzip the backup file on your computer, select the .ab files that correspond to the missing / corrupted restores and then zip those into a new file on your computer (for step 9). Keep these files handy in unzipped form as well for step 10.
8. Perform a new Helium backup of those sections onto the internal SD card (yes it will be blank, worry not).
9. (Optional step): Run Helium server and upload that new zip file (with the stuff that didn't make it) alone. Try restore. Unlikely to work but worth a shot.
10. Running Android File Transfer, find the SD card, find the folder 'carbon' and then find the corresponding sub-folders that have the modules that were corrupted. Replace the SD card backups of the broken modules with the good ones from your computer.
11. Run Helium restore again, but only for the sections you want (I swear, for me Messaging didn't show up the first few times but after step 10 it did).
12. Wait, hoepfully it works well. I would reboot after running the restore to a) kill Helium and b) confirm functionality.
FWIW, my telephony.ab was 1.8MB and took SIX hours to restore. Seriously. Yeah yeah, that's a lot of texts but six hours? I've since added "SMS Backup & Restore" to my phone and will probably just use that, map out my phone layout and functionality and just manually replace apps from now on since most data is in the cloud. You lose some stuff, but prima facie it's boat tons easier.
Hopefully that helps someone else who had the same issues.

Somehow my phone got soft factory reset (lost all the apps but the files) when i tried to install the apps that I had before it throws a play store error while installing saying it couldnt be installed because of an unkown error "-24" plz helpp
Why are you mocking Koush? Yes the Koush. He made this app. He specifically said in the app description that:
Note: Helium is NOT available to Motorola devices. This is because Motorola phones have a bug that break Android's backup mechanism. Until this is fixed by Motorola, Helium will not work on those Androids. You can download Helium manually here:
http://download.clockworkmod.com/apks/Backup.apk
If you find that Helium *does* work on your Motorola Android, please notify me.
Note: Some Sony devices have issues with Helium. This includes the Xperia S and Xperia Z. Sony has *disabled* backup on these devices completely.

We'll that blows!
Sony...what's the point of using a backup application that doesn't work????
Anybody else have any recommendations on other applications that do work? Not going to use PC Companion for any backups from now on
Well I have something back.
Snooped around the net and located a great product called MyPhoneExplorer and installed this to see what I could find. Nothing.
But then when I preformed the restore, it managed to restore the SMS and contacts for me Not too bothered with regards the apps but the important contacts and messages are now back.
Not sure what MyPhoneExplorer did but has done something good
So after hours and hours of following loads of different Guides on YouTube I finally managed to get GMS to fully work again.
I followed his Guide, for the most part, but did some things different.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxqEZMX6Kl8&t=37s
[EDIT: Set your system language to english after resetting your phone, until you (hopefully) got GMS running]
(1) As soon as i reset my device I opened AppGallery, went to settings and froze automatic App-Updates.
(2) After that I uninstalled the Backup App by going into Settings > Apps > Apps > (search for Backup and show system apps) > uninstall
(3) Instead of getting the Purple G App via a USB Pendrive I got it by restoring a (different) backup with hisuite.
(4) Instead of grabbing the files from a pendrive I had them on my internal storage
(5) After getting the PlayStore to work for the very first time (video timestamp 04:59) I installed alot of apps (important!)
Other than that I followed his guide exactly.
*(3) Get the latest version of HiSuite on your computer.
Unpack Backup file for Hisuite.rar. Put the folder inside of it into documents / HiSuite / backup.
Connect your device to your computer via USB Cable. Choose "transfer files" on your phone.
Go into your phones' settings, search for "HDB" and allow HiSuite to use HDB. (HiSuite will now be installed on your phone)
Open it and give it all the permissions that it needs.
On your computer, enter the Code that the Hisuite App shows on your phone.
Hit restore.
HiSuite will try to install the Backup App that we uninstalled before. It's gonna tell you that the installation failed, just ignore it and try to restore the Backup again.
(Backup File for Hisuite.rar): http://www.mediafire.com/file/a7wbsq1hjkz7vnr/Backup_file_for_Hisuite.rar/file
*(5) List of apps that I installed at that point:
Chrome
Google
Google One
Assistant
Drive
Keep Notes
Home
Street View
YouTube
Maps
Gmail
Whatsapp
Play Games
Facebook
Let me know if this worked for you ^^

They *did* work for a little while after installing GMS, now they don't show up anymore.

Whatsapp seems to work fine as of now.
Im trying to find a solution for other apps, wish me luck
The only way to have push service notification working is to icebox google framework. In that way u'll have notifications and you can even add how many gmail accounts you want. At the price of Google Play Store, you have to use Aurora Store or defroze google framework when you need it
