I have most of the apps organized under folders, not on the main screen but in the app drawer. Is there a way to backup these folders before flashing a new rom?

are you swapping over to a completely different rom or just updating an existing rom? if your just updating i'd say just flash over wipe your caches and it should load normally and same like before.
if your moving roms then your probably going to have to re set things up.

basically when you flash to another firmware you should do a full wipe.. doing so the user data is lost, meaning that I have to restore apps and settings. For settings is not a problem 'cause I can backup (almost everything) using htc backup but recreating folders is a pain in the neck...
I've always used Nova Launcher, and it backs up everything on your launcher. Just....
1. Backup Nova
2. Flash new rom
3. Let Google restore all your apps
4. Make sure they're all there!
5. Restore Nova!!!
What do you mean another firmware? As in upgrading the base? Then you can flash over or also if your updating from say arhd 7.3 to 8.0 you should be fine flash over existing

I don't want to use other launcher. I'm pretty happy with Sense.

Yes that's correct. Upgrading from another base.
Is this possible to backup with Titanium Backup??

OK, I think I understand nandroid on a basic level. It backs stuff up. Everything. But I'm confused as to how it works. I have CM 6.1 RC1 on my phone right now. I want to try a Sense based ROM but don't want to lose everything. Especially my apps. If I do a nandroid backup before I install the new ROM will the data be compatible with the new ROM? Will the apps work with all their settings intact? Seems to me a different ROM would have weird little things that are incompatible. Seems to me nandroid is more of a way to revert to your previous ROM in case the new one doesn't work out. Does that sound right?
As I understand it, a nandroid back-up is basically a photo copy of your current rom, apps and settings. If you're using ROM manager go into that and choose the "Back up current ROM" choice and it'll back it up and save it to the SD card. If you install a new ROM you'll do a wipe and everything will be gone and then installed with the new ROM. To get it back to the way it was your have your back-up rom saved on the SD card and you can flash that to get it back to the way it was. Does anyone want to double check me on this since I could be wrong?

That's exactly right. It's a flashable backup of a full ROM. If you want to only backup apps, use titanium backup.

A nandroid restore is done through recovery, not the ROM. So you could have a Sense based ROM and nandroid (assuming you have made one and it's on your SD card) to a CM ROM
What you should do is install a ROM, set it up how you like/want it then nandroid right away. You can do that with a few ROMS, test them out, choose your favorite and go with it, always keeping the option to go back to any of them
is it only done through rom manager, or can i get a nandroid backup in cwm recovery?

You can backup in recovery. I never use ROM manager anyway.

i second that duce rom manager is pretty bad now adays the only thing its good for is installing recovery and fixing permissons but thats about it.

ROM manager entirely unnecessary
Running CM7RC
Decided to try one of the themes so I did a backup first using ROM Manager.
Didn't like the themes so I tried to restore.
It is coming up without my google account and there is no option to add it in the account settings.
I've wiped and reapplied the backup and also fixed permissions to no avail so far.
I'm finishing a 2nd fix permissions after wiping everything (even Davlik).
Has anyone ever had this happen to them? If so, what was the fix?
I'd rather get it restored than start over...
Restoring the account settings in Titanium doesn't help either.
I'm screwed, aren't I?
Do you have the Google apps installed (market, etc)?

Yes, happened to me many times when I flashed CM and forgot to flash gapps.
Download gapps-gb-20110120-signed.zip from here: http://goo-inside.me/google-apps/ and flash from recovery.
Did you use clockworkmod 3.0? It's been known to messed things up during nandroid restore.
Flash GAPPS like other have mentioned.
If not full wipe and start over, use AMon Ra or an older CWM version

Yeah, they were there when I restored the backup but they wouldn't open because there was no google account in the phone. Could flashing gapps fix this?

Yes, it is cwm 3.0
For now I've done a full wipe and started over and after a couple of days of tweaking I'll likely forget the incident. I might try restoring and flashing gapps but I have my doubts as to whether that would work.
I'm going to have to start being more vigilant about backing up apps/settings/data in other ways if a nandroid backup isn't dependable...
Thanks for the comments.
OK, I just flashed RC2 and the account issue popped back up so it isn't necessarily that backup I did before.

For sure from now on.
I've got a clean install that I'm having issues with now...
Strange things are afoot.
I hate it when all apps are removed to change ROM. I want to try Nik's JB and I dont want apps to be removed whatsapp....
try Ultimate Backup Tool for non-rooted and Titanium Backup for rooted
In this case it should be enough to do a nandroid backup. You can test JB and if you finished testing, you just restore your old stuff. The JB ROM is amazing but it's not a daily driver yet so it's kinda needless to install all your apps on it
I backed some using titanium but how how to restore them?
What about the backup and and restore on the recovery? What is that used for?

After backing up with titanium on your old rom
Download titanium on your new rom and you can re-install, but beware that restoring data from different roms may cause FC's
Can you set Titanium to only restore the apks, no data and cache? That should avoid most issues I suppose?
The interface is a little ... busy... so I havent really given it a go yet.

Buy the premium version of titanium backup then you can batch install apps instead of installing one at a time.

Yep. What I usually do, is go on the batch section click restore app, and choose app only. And then use app+data for my games, so I don't lose my scores and saves.
You could always restore the data partition from your old ROMs nandroid backup. Works for me.
For rooted phone, I'd suggest Go Backup.
Titanium Backup is much more powerful, but some essential features, like batch backup/restore, require paid version. And it loads pretty slowly on my Incredible S.
Go Backup offers backing up both apps and their data, as well as SMS/call log/contacts/wi-fi access points. Go dev team has recently added backup merging feature, which works fine either.
Today I installed 4.1.1-based ROM from Nikhil, downloaded Go Backup from the Market, ran backup restoration and voila, in 5 minutes I got all my apps back, including paid ones.
This app is constantly being updated, which is also a weighty argument (at least for me).

So if I restore my ROM from a previous backup, it will restore all my apps with data too?

Is it really the same restoring an app from a backup as from Google play? Market links work and the app is registered by the os, integrated into the share menu (facebook for instance) and so on?
Just trying to learn how android works... Something like that would never work in windows, registry entries would probably break...
Nonverbose can you please explain more about the nandroid backup. I tried titanium and it worked.
I am curious about your method.

nandroid is the backup/restore function in you recovery A nandroid backup will save your COMPLETE ROM with all apps, data and everything else. After a backup you can install whatever you want on your phone and install new things, whatever. And if you had enough, you can restore your backup and your entire phone will be just like when you did the backup It's also a great method to switch between ROMs for example your daily driver (let's say ProjectX) and JB Evolution You can configure both ROMs like you want it, do backups and switch between them The process of backing up/restoring a ROM takes about 5min.
I hope this answered all your questions
Yup I tried this one today but I didnt know it was called nandroid. Thanks
1) Is there any way to add them to a rom based at cm and android 4.2.2?
2) As we know from sammobile, note will take the 4.2.2. From the roms we have now, if they release the 4.2.2 for note, could we just take the samsung apps with upgrade of the rom?
3) Now i am at tw based rom and i want to try some 4.2.2 cm based roms. From titanium backup, if i take backup from all the apps, including system, it will install the system apps when i will restore them? i know that we shouldn't keep system apps backup.
4) How can i save my contacts to google account?
5) Where does the titanium backup save the backup files?

agree with baz77, i suggest u not to do restore apps or app data, because different ROM has different structure, so if u restore apps or apps data in the different structure ROM from ur previous ROM, it'll mesh everything.
Hi guys,
I am thinking of moving from the stock HTC software on my One to CyanogenMod, and i was wondering a few things:
1. How can i move all my stuff?
2. Will there be any issues installing as currently I am rooted?
3. How hard is it to install?
4. How hard is it to move back to Sense 5
Any help is appreciated!

2) No... You must be rooted and unlocked (bootloader) for install it.
3) Easy, if you will read the instruction

Hey sam, i am complete newbie and let me tell you, even for me it was super easy. the installation was a breeze.
i had done a full wipe and my contacts were already backed up with Google. So they synced perfectly. i just lost messages. but titanium should do it for you.
go ahead. the CM is really really fast. i am loving phone now. have installed Nova on it and its complete lag-free.
As others said, full wipe Only wipe the system files no file on the SD will be touched. I also suggest do a back up in recovery just in case.
