Anywhere to buy OEM Shatter layer with Sony logo? - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there any place you can buy the OEM shatter layer for the xperia Z (With Sony Logo)?
I guess many people don't put on the screen protectors that comes with the box, not knowing about the shatter layer that is not scratch-resistant. Would be great to replace with a new one, then put on a screen protector..

so far theres non.. but later on maybe some will sell with a sony logo.. but for best when you unboxed ur Z,just put the free protector, front and back.. it could spare the built in layer.. and whhen the time ull remove it,we hope theres somebody who sells with a sony logo.

Yes, I have never had the need for screen protector on my other phones, so this being the first time I installed one, I failed miserably.
However I bought a Copter Screen protector yesterday, much easier to apply.

Yes,the built in though its thick.. So i already bought another prtctor with thin film,so the touch response will not degrade.. Are you annoyed living your XZ Not having a sony logo?

It just does not feel right removing the Sony logo on a brand new phone.. I like things to be original. But I have not read about anyone having problems after removing it, so it is a solution for those with scratched shatter films I guess.

Actually I have removed my protector with logo already. My question was about buying new one with logo. Is it available? But that thread was about is logo on protector or not. Or I missed something?

The ASF comes as part of the front glass, so it won't be available.
No-one seems to sell a suitable SP with the logo on.

So what?
No logo - just a common SP, so you missed the point of this.
Use the Accessory thread.

Xperia Z Sony logo baked into screen protector rather than its display?

Sony Mobile is one of the few mobile manufacturers to pre-apply a screen protector to its smartphones. It’s a nice gesture, providing a factory-fitted finish. The company has been doing this since the Xperia X10 was released back in 2010 and the same will apply to the Xperia Z when it is released next month. However, judging by the photos below it looks like the protective sheet will also double-up to display the ‘Sony’ logo.
For such a pricey phone, you may think that the Sony logo would be baked into the display, but this doesn’t appear to be the case. The guys over at ComputerBild.de carefully removed the pre-applied protector, although it wasn’t easy as you can see below. They found that once it was removed, the front face of the phone was just a single sheet of glass with no logo to be found.
At this stage, we don’t know whether this will be the case for retail devices, but it certainly seems to be the case for pre-production samples. We’re not even sure it’s such a big deal, a single sheet of glass can look pretty elegant. What’s your view, is this cost-cutting measure a bit too much? Would you expect the logo to be etched onto the glass given the price?

How can you be so sure??
Why would anybody care? We ***** because of big logos, and then we ***** because they come off with the screen protector. Is it really that important to you people for other people to know that you have a Sony phone? Huh? The world is really f'd.

Can never be sure, its just common sense. Why make your company logo removable on your flagship device? if the Sony logo gets removed by the screen protector, how will other people know its a Sony if the device is lying face up? It doesn't make sense to have it only printed in the screen protector. I hardly think its to save cash either.

Just a lil hope i guess! Coz assuming that Sony wont put up the logo in a screen protector for a premium flagship phone!

You are right to an extent! Maybe they could have had problems in etching out the logo in the glass. That's what the link too says and it also shows that the protector is rigid and they indeed have found difficulties in removing it and showing us out. So Sony might have thought that the protector wont peel off easily and might have stuck the logo in it! Anyways, anything could happen!
Well I would be very surprised if the logo is only etched onto the screen protector and not the actual phone itself.

If it does, Samsung would immediately develop (only) a screen protector of 5" in size that says Samsung at the top and it would eventually be named as Samsung Galaxy Z and they would start bragging about the pinnacle of design, craftsmanship and all such!!

Logo or not, removing the shatter shield is stupid idea
I removed the screen protector and the logo is gone
Im gonna send my phone back tough. its not a very good phone:victory:
I removed the sheets on the back and front. The back is now an oily fingerprint collecting mess and the front feels like it's matt and has no Sony logo. It has also affected the loudspeaker of the phone which goes quiet now for over 4 or 5 hours at a time when the phone touches water.
Very bad idea.

[Q] remove or keep the anti shatter film?

i am considering removing the anti shatter film from my xperia z once i get it as the idea of having a 100% blank phone is very interesting to me
however it seems theres alot of negatives doing this (i have bought a screen protector for about 20$ which i will get with the phone)
when removing the anti shatter film it seems you will get
1insane fingerprint magenet (i thought it would be the opposite)
2.extremely hard to clean
would you recommend removing it or keeping it on i just want to remove it to get rid of the sony logo and to have a much nicer feel too it better display and nicer feel
is it recommended to remove it or keep it on? (then apply a normal screen protector)
i bought this one https://www.inet.se/produkt/1999042/invisibleshield-sony-xperia-z-screen-coverage
ofcourse i want the best quality screen protector possible
someone also said the nfx logo comes off at the back whats a nfc logo?

but imagine a completely blank glass front i think that would actually look better

i will get my phone today and i am still not sure if i should
whats worrying me now is damage
i read it can litterally damage the phone and break the water proofing how true is this?
then theres the fingerprint thing is it better or worse without it?
i want to remove it then apply a real screen protector to fix fingerprint issues
the damage part worries me though
i do want the sony logo off though

Matte Screen Protector for ZR

Hi all !
I just bought THIS screen protector and just loving it.
I was worried about the fitting to the screen but the precision laser cut was very accurate, fits exactly to the screen.
I applied it myself for the first time, it is magnetic(does not leave adhesive residue) so you can always remove apply it correctly. The matte finish is just excellent
It is for Indian users but the seller said they import these from abroad so the same brand can be found on international sites too.
I got a clear screen protector and i like it better than matte finish.

Hi guys, just got my ZR and I'm loving it but it's quite the fingerprint magnet. Is there a screen protector that can help. I have set my eyes on this one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vikuiti-A...ting_LaptopAccessories_RL&hash=item51b125bc05 but I don't know if it's any good. Any suggestions?

Thank you, for your suggestion I got 3 matte and 6 clear screen protectors I will see how it goes and which I like best. Has anyone removed the pre-installed protector from their device. I'm concerned that I'll remove the SONY logo if I get rid of it (I hear that happened on xperia Z units). Is there any danger in removing it and should I remove it at all or just place the new one on top of it?
Place the new one on top. Doesn't dampen sensitivity too much.

matte
At first didn't like my matte screen protector...
Pros
feels nicer!
no filthy finger prints!
minimal light reflections..
if you use dim backlight it really helps..
you can re apply it.
no air bubbles at all!
Cons
unable to use it as a mirror when screen off.
colours and images on the screen are not as sharp,
slight glow on whites.
But now i wouldn't go back!
I'm still waiting for my screen protector and today I noticed a tiny scratch on the screen. It's not that visible but is there a way to fix that. Will the screen protector cover it or I'm stuck with a scratched SONY?

Take a pencil eraser and rub it off..
It should not be the screen itself. Sony is known to apply screen protectors on each phone in-manufacture. It's not visible but if you insist you can remove it. It's even possible that the sony logo is simply printed on it, like the Xperia V.

Removing the anti-shatter film will invalidate the warranty.
Seriously?? How could this void the warranty? It has nothing to do with the hardware and doesn't affect the device in any way!

Yes, there are a lot users talking about it, removing the shatter-proof screen protector voids the warranty because it'll no longer be shatter proof.....stupid isn't it? I already scratched mine before knowing that, now I'm stuck with a scratched screen until my warranty ends and I remove the f****ing thing.

I can't really say I haven't researched this, what I know for sure is that this protector is factory heated onto the screen and it's not supposed to be removed.
Hi,
I'm trying to find a screen protector for a whole display, without any holes in it.. I found this: amazon.de/dp/B00K1JTIMG/ but of course, I'm not sure if it's a picture of a real product or just illustrative picture. can someone confirm / recommend something else?

You are right. The protector is factory-heated onto the screen, remove it and the Sony logo will go off. As for the warranty, there are two paragraphs Sony could use against you if you remove the protector (as stated by the Important information brochure):
Do not paint or attempt to disassemble or modify the product. Only Sony authorized personnel should perform service.

Additionally, "What we will do" section, says:
7. Tampering with any of the seals on the Product will void the warranty.

I know it is not very specific, but hey, that's how lawyers do it.
The only thing I always wonder about, is what kind of glass ZR's screen uses... GorillaGlass? DragonTrail? I found many different sites talking about that, but none of them had conclusive evidence. Sony's official response is ZR uses a "Shatter proof and scratch-resistant glass". No specific brand mentioned .
Anyway, I bought a good protector for 5 bucks. It's a "KLX Anti-explosion Soft TPU 0.2mm Screen Guard Film" and the package includes everything you need to apply it successfully. Also, I saw a 1mm tempered glass protector for 15 bucks, thinking of buying it next time.

No Sony logo under earpiece on front Panel!!!

Hello. Bought a used Xperia V today and when i reached home i looked closely at the front panel of V and i'm shocked to see that there is no Sony logo on front of phone. Other than that every thing on phone looks genuine and its also water proof as checked by the shopkeeper on front of me.

I took it off both my Z and Z1. The sony ASF has an adhesive on it which I think affects screen quality I mean how can't it. I find I have better contrast without them. Plus the phone looks more monolithic without the sony logo. But there have been discussion about loss of warranty once you remove it.

I'm really close to removing mine. It scratches so easily! Never had a phone that got this many scratches in a week and it's not like i'm doing anything out of the ordinary with it.
Why put super tough glass on the phone and then cover it with a film that scratches?

you are not alone, many of us have wondered why they do this. Every other manufacturer seems to have this anti shatter built into their screens. I'm not sure if its because sony doesn't use gorilla glass or some thing. The only this to remember that after you remove it the glass doesnt have an oleophobic coating. The ASF also leave a kind of stick residue. I use nail polish remover to get it all off. Then put a glass screen protector over top of it to give the that coating.

I'm interested too. I do not think will void the warranty unless you destroy your screen.
My question is, once you remove it what will you apply on your screen? I tried every good film screen protectors and no one is really oleophobic and without reducing the screen quality. Also seems on the market there aren't films or tempered glass without holes for the camera and sensors which I think is very annoying since they'll become dust magnets. Suggestions?

I removed Sony SP from my Xperia S and I didn't get anything...
No better contrast, not even better or precise touch.
But XS don't have Sony logo on SP it's on the glass... I just applied invisible screen protector from eBay (applying with water) and I still use that phone...
But I won't peel SP from Z1 - I just applied same protector (Invisible SP) front and will soon apply one to back and it's awesome...
For me, there's no reason for peeling original SP down...

If anything goes wrong in the future and you have to send back your device to customer service they'll say that warranty is lost... or they'll charge you extra money.
Personaly I bought Muvit Matt screen protection and I have no more fingerprint, the feeling is different from, for example, the Spigen Crystal Clear one which has a good feeling when touching the screen but with its fingerprint counterpart!

If you say that because of BL unlock then it is not sure warranty is 100% lost Sony' s unlock BL website says :
Please note that you may void the warranty of your device and/or any warranty from your operator if you unlock the boot loader

I know it's sounds weird that removing a plastic layer (which is a kind of physical protection) will void warranty and not totally for a bootloader unlock but that's their position for now...

This is untrue
I have returned my xperia T phone for a cracked screen after taking off the factory fitted screen protector and I got replacement with no questions asked
This is in the UK
I have also never seen it written on a sony website or contract that this will void warrenty

We asked a Sony rep (or a community manager) in french forum and that's what he told us.
Now I guess it depend on the service center or the country.
Also I don't know if it is the same policy for T and the Z line (waterproof, all glass etc) ?
Anyway maybe I'm wrong but I still won't take the risk.

yes, it may be country specific but I have the same contract on my Z1 as I did with my T
Plus unlocking the bootloader definitely voids warranty so if you have done that you may as well take it off
I asked on sony xperia twitter account, we'll see if they reply.
For the BL I just report what's on their site, the use of "may void" is different of just "void", I guess they have a tons of advocates who carefully pays attention to each word used on their site.
I remember a while back reading something about Arc S (here on XDA) where they said that if the repair has nothing to do with the BL unlock then the warranty still works.
If your T was unlocked and they repaired the screen for free that means warranty worked even if the screen has nothing to do with BL unlock...?
