I read about how people have been complaining about the capacitive buttons on the HTC One not responding well (home and back). But I also read that HTC was going to deliver an update (firmware or software?) to fix the issue. Has that been done yet?
I am considering buying this phone, but I just want to know what I'm getting into. The other issue I read here is people complaining about stuck pixels. Was that an issue on the first phones made, or still an issue? thanks guys.
The capacitive buttons issue was fixed by HTC when the new 1.29 OTA update came along. I have absolutely no issues whatsoever with the capacitive buttons. They work fine everytime.
The dead pixels effect any and all devices that use LCD tft or these types of displays. It may be more common with specific batches and in theory the process will be better in newer generations but you may get unlucky and get one with a stuck or dead pixel. Again my HTC one has no stuck or dead pixels at all.
Some people are just unlucky. I would just return the phone under the cooling off period if that applies rather than saying it's related to pixels. Some manufactures have a set way of deciding if it is faulty. One on it's own isn't classed as an issue. 2 or 3 in a specific 1 x 1 cm square maybe what they class as faulty. One pixel anywhere would annoy the crap out of me tho!!
If you like the HTC one don't be put off by these 2 nags as they're a non issue. An s4 could just as easily have a dead or stuck pixel too.
Capacitive buttons don't light up!
Hi guys, anyone got any recommendations or suggestions for why the capacitive buttons don't light up (at all) on my unit? I'm sure they did when I first received it (recently), but haven't worked at all for a few days now. Could I have inadvertently changed a setting, or have I possibly got a faulty unit? All thoughts appreciated!

Thanks for the update. Can I ask, what is this 1.29 update from HTC? Is it firmware, software? Is it a Sense update? And if so, then what happens if you switch roms? I own an Desire HD now, but I don't recall ever doing an update from HTC. Thx.

HTC has never had great luck with their capacitive light sensors. On the Thunderbolt, we used electrical tape to cover the sensors that would make them stay lit all the time. Until a Dev comes up with a way to keep them on all the time, the only solution would be to cover the sensors on the One as well. They are the two dots in the upper left corner of the phone.
I couldn't tell you what other effects covering the two sensors will have on the device.

Thanks guys, responses appreciated! Tested it in the dark and sure enough the lights do come on. Seems a little weird that it has to be really dark (almost no other light at all) before they kick in! Must be another battery saving encouragement I guess!

Thanks for this info. Had no idea till now that was how these sensors work. Makes it a little more tolerable.

Hello there, XDA.
This thread is more for an ensurance for me that I've done nothing wrong when using my phone - and it might show up that some other people have the same problem as I do.
Now, to the thingie. Bought a HTC Diamond about 3 months ago - working just fine. Although about 3-4 weeks ago I realized that when I tilt my screen, I can see some crazy stuff going on... There is two pictures attached and linked to further down.
Anyone else has this problem? Would be lovely to hear what you've done. I sent an e-mail to HTC and the manu... manufactourer-/or~ (spelling :b).

That just looks like moisture between the screen protector and the screen itself.
Odd that it's in a perfect rectangle. I've seen this before on a mates LG Viewty (Horrible phone!), but he never followed it up so I don't know what the cause was. It did have a touch screen, but no protector. Perhaps its moisture actually in the screen or a manufacturing fault?
Good luck.
Oh my - I had rectangle on the screen today when I removed the protective front later (brand new phone).
Though It's no longer showing I'm scared its going to become more apparent and eventually become like this.
What is going on with QA and HTC?
There was another exact case like this that I saw this week. Can't really remmeber but do a search and you will find it.
I have the same thing on my Touch Pro, and another user has had the same problem on his (her?) Diamond:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=428262
Unfortunately it isn't moisture below the screen protector, but that the touch resistive layer was subject to heavy pressure (eg: being squeezed in the pocket). It shouldn't affect anything in the short term, but in the long run the touch screen might become erratic or imprecise, so you should keep an eye on it.
The store I bought my TPro from doesn't accept returns/exchanges, and so far HTC hasn't replied to my support ticket. Unfortunately I think some of us are going to be left out in the cold. Personally I'm tempted to buy a replacement touch layer and replace it myself, but of course that would void the warranty (even though it doesn't seem to be doing me any good).
If this becomes widespread, there could be a chance for a class action lawsuit (hopefully HTC will wise up and help us out before it comes to that).
Ouch >.<, feeling sad (but somewhat a bit of relief) that some others has the same problem.
Yes, the rectangular shape is very, very odd - since that makes me think that just pressure can create this mess. It feels more like a manufacturing fault.. But, as for fhsieh, HTC hasn't respond to my support ticket.
Wondering if I should call them to get a direct answer.. Hm.
I've suffered this
But in a Touch Cruise I own before. I thought, as said, that this regular shape can only came from a pressure problem.
Loosing my warranty (due to the long time to be repaired here in Spain), I opened it, confirming that was not a problem with moisture (at least in my case). Also I saw the resistive layer poorly sticked to the body, with zones unglued, causing the layer to raise, specially in the bottom edges. This bothered me a lot, because I ended with lot of dirt between the layer and the screen itself, unable to clean.
Maybe that was the problem. If the layer is not correctly assembled it gets an irregular surface (as lightly squeeshed) , yielding this. But, functionally speaking, the screen was performing well, as it should be.
Hope this helps.
It's only humidity... it happens also in my diamond... try to dry it under the sun..(not so good for lcd but it works for me)..

Yes, it's due to the prefect pressure of the screen, exactly in the center..if you try to press a corner for example near to Start button (with screen off) you should see the spot follow your finger's pressure. So there is a small drop between LCD and screen..(for me)
I had same problem in polaris. Send it for warranty as this is manufacturing fault. Why keep ****??? its htc s fault!?!
Well I thought i was the only one who had this problem till I came across this thread.... it's quite weird it's in a perfect rectangular shape anyone tried removing the protective screen and checkin whether it is the display... but one thing you hve to notice once the display is on we can't see tht on the screen only against a black background can you notice it....
It is the problem of screen protector. You may not see this watermark after you take off the screen protector. Try other good screen protector like Brando, Martin Fields ....

I tried removing the screen protector and the rectangular shape is still there then I put it in front of an A/C cooler unit and it went away!!!! then after awhile it returned back and the place I live is very hot and humid so I guess it's weather which plays a role....
I bought htc one of phones4u and i notice when watching videos or something with a dark background, light bleeds from the home button on to the screen. The light bleed comes from the bottom right hand corner of screen, looks like there is missing a bit of seal from the screen so the light comes through, so i arranged for an exchange as i wanted it perfect and it was annoying, anyway just received my second handset and guess what still the same problem, It is not the same phone if any of you guys thinking this!! As the problem with this new phone is the light is bit more on the side and worse. So two phones both with the same problem.
Have any of you guys had this problem?? as i have scanned the internet and i cannot see anything about this issue. Surely i can't be the only one!!
I will be sending this back for a third time if it happens again will probably be getting the s4.
I have not had this problem nor heard anyone else with it. Can you get a picture?

Never seen this problem either.

I just tried this. I found I could see a tiny bit of leakage from the back button. But only if I went into the room with no windows, all lights off, and gave my eyes about 20 seconds to adjust....then I could "just" see it. I would never ever have noticed this in normal usage and I imagine some will not be able to see it on my phone at all.
The time i finish work it is pretty dark, so this is why i notice it. Mine is def worse than yours you can clearly see it best way to do it is to be in a dark room and put brightness right down on htc one, i will try and take a photo later for you guys to see.

I have light leaking where the screen meets the body. Is this common?
My first one had this issue, just like in photo above.
The replacement is perfect light bleeding wise..

I also have this issue like the photo above in the exact same spot. Mine is only a pin hole tho.
Was really surprised to see this topic. My HTC One has easily been the most flawless screen I've ever owned. I've had some light bleeding, even if barely noticeable to anyone who doesn't have severe OCD, on almost every LED-backlist display I've used...until this phone. Even my new Nexus 10, which I settled on after many exchanges, has minor light bleeding.
Just checked my phone, don't have this issue. If possible, I'd contact the seller you purchased it from or get in contact from HTC to check out the warranty.
I came across the same issue. Anybody knows what's the cause of the issue? and how to repair it!
i'd appreciate it!
Hi guy, just received my replacement htc One and the QC is even worse than the first. First One had an uneven top speaker slip (sharp edge overhang) uneven glass and recessed power button. This replacement is uneven top and bottom with sharp speaker slip overhangs to left again, sim tray is tatty, but the worst issue (and a new one) is the volume rocker that is so proud of the body on the screen edge you can see where the chrome plating finishes. I've spoken to my supplier and they are sending another replacement. Love the phone, hate the QC. Has anyone got a close to decent unit? First was HT serial, second is SH. Anyone else seen the volume rocker pics (see attached)
Cheer
I've gotten two perfect units. It just luck when you order early on. It sucks!!

Thanks for the reply, I also noticed a lot of glue residue around the volume rocker too which might be connected to the issue.
What seems to be consensus on the quality of this phone?
Cheers

LoL well if you get a good unit then it's amazing if you get a bad unit then HTC is devil and has major problems The phone seems to be great quality like HTC usually does. There are some issues right now as the phone hasn't been out long and they are trying to pump out as many as possible. I by some miracle have gotten lucky with the ONE. This suprisses me because I generally have to exchange phones I've done as many as 5 before I got a perfect unit (haha it was a iphone 5). It's really a crap shoot when phones are first released if you are the kind of person who can spot a dead pixel on 468PPI screen then you are the kind of person who is anal retentive about their phone (nothing wrong with that I admit it proudly heck I inspect phones under high powered flashlight and direct sunlight ).
I can't really say anything other then it doesn't appear that there are any more bad unit with the HTC One than with any other phone. Unfortunately most phones get released with some manufacturing bugs that have to be worked out.

Hi, I just bought the HTC One and I'm absolutely loving it. However, upon unboxing it, I inspected the phone and noticed that the screen is not flush at the top. I was fine with that but I've been watching videos and I've noticed light leakage under the front facing camera. Coincidentally, that's also where the screen starts to lift up a bit. Is this going to get worse and should I go and replace it?
Thanks

this is a "known" issue, it's called backlight bleeding. many devices suffer from this (some more, some less). it's up to you if you want to get a replacement, i didn't replace mine because i don't notice it very often

Ah thanks for the reply! I might leave it then since it's not that bad.
So last night I noticed that there appears to be a thin line of light coming up from above both the right and left bezel. Can anyone else reproduce this? It's most noticeable in a dark environment with the screen brightness relatively high.
Red line indicates where the light leakage comes from.
here are some actual pics. I just want to know if this is normal or not. Thanks
Nope, your phone should not do that. It appears your screen inst adhering as it should. If I were you I would take it back and get a new one if you're in your 2 week grace period.

So in the end I did end up getting a replacement because of this. Turns out I'd totally regret it because this is actually normal behavior.
The replacements I got had far worse issues such as yellowing screen, overheating, and rotation issues. And on top of that all of them still had the light bezel bleed. Ugh.
