I bought the Xperia Z C6603 in UK will it get 3g or 4g or let in NY, USA?
i been reading in the blogs that it wont support you will only get GPRS or EDGE based on this t-mobile thread http://support.t-mobile.com/thread/40671?start=0&tstart=0
but can the Devs do something to make it work on 3g/4g with current hardware in the phone? or should I return and buy the phone when it comes in the USA?
all help is appreciated
I'm not sure about 3g, but I've heard that the 4g bands that the phone uses are different then being used in the States. So that won't work.

The reason is, according to T mobile
Depending on where a tower is at in the 4G life cycle, theoretical maximum download speeds range from 21 Mbps – 42 Mbps.
T-Mobile's HSPA+ network operates on the same band as our 3G network, Band IV, which uses 1700 MHz and 2100 MHz frequencies to transmit voice and data services. The 1700 MHz frequency sends information to cell sites and the 2100 MHz frequency receives information.
As with our 3G network, both 1700 MHz frequency and 2100 MHz frequency are required for a device to function. If a device only has one of these frequencies, it cannot use T-Mobile’s 3G and 4G networks.
T-Mobile is switching some 1900 MHz frequency from EDGE to HSPA+. This will allow devices that work on 1900 MHz, such as AT&T devices, to use our 4G network.
and yes,the Xperia z uses UMTS HSPA+ Bands 1, 3, 5, 8 which are
1 for 2100, 3 for 1800, 5 for 850 and 8 for 900
the HSDPA in T mobile are in the bands 1700 and 2100, just like the 3G, and the Xperia Z model c6603 uses bands 850/900/1700 only!!! the C6602 model uses the same bands plus /1900/2100 so, if you miss one band in T mobile you will never have the HSDPA speed, no matter the firmware,because is hardware
This info is according to Sony Official Page www.sonymobile.com, so as you can see you are missing one band, the 1700
Resuming, is hardware issue, and I dont think that the developers will be able to get 4G speeds or even HSDPA if the chip required is missing iin the c6603
c6602 is the only choice
Im currently have c6602 on tmobile and I can get h+ speed on it I did order c6603 and only get EDGE. You will have to set APN manually se the phone canlog into the network. Or u will have to get ZL since I heard that Xperia Z wont be distributed through any US carriers.

Hey guys
I got XZ C6603 today from handtec. I activated brand new LTE simcard at rogers store and set up lte apn.
Soon as I did that data connection rapidly changing from h+ to 3g for a while then drop the data connection and phone reception as well.
Seems like lot of ppl here in Canada having trouble getting LTE connection but I am having hard time getting my phone reception and H+ connection.
I'm not sure either XZ is defect or this phone is simply wont work with Rogers.
Any solutions?? or should I just return the phone back to handtec?
LTE doesn't seem to work with the Z on Rogers.
Go into network settings and network mode and change it to only WCDMA(preferred)/GSM.
3G and HSPA+ work flawlessly so keep it on those instead.
Basically the phone keeps searching for an LTE network but can't connect so it'll keep switching between the network modes.
I'm hoping there's a solution to this soon, because the Z can actually find the Rogers LTE network but can't connect for some reason.
Probably a work around fix that can be done. :good:

HSPA+ will probably be unpredictable on a regional basis - many North American carriers use UMTS1900 and the 6603 does not support that band for HSPA+ operation.
6603 will not operate on LTE in any band in North America I'm aware of.

You are wrong,
Rogers does support LTE 2600
I would not use a phone on Rogers that can't get 1900Mhz but ... You should be able to use 2600 LTE. Have you entered the LTE APN ?

HSPA+ works fine where I am on my 6603.
People have been able to get LTE on theirs as well, depending on the region.

My LTE worked for an hour the other. I've read the 2600 band is a higher speed band, but it has weaker penetration and more sensitive.
Im beginning to think that you need both 2100 and 2600 bands for LTE to properly work in Canada since Rogers have both deployed simultaneously. Maybe Rogers need to improve their 2600 deployement in order for the XZ to work.

You need band 4 and band 10. Each frequency is used for different reasons (upstream/downstream). Just having 2,600 Mhz won't do anything. It's already been confirmed by multiple users that LTE doesn't work in North America (AT&T, Rogers, etc.)
That's why the C6603 wasn't released in North America.
The leaked C6606 model should support it, as well as the ZL. (http://playstation.com/psm/certified.html)

Then how does the optimus g on rogers use lte 2600? The optimus g 2600 on rogers only have lte band 700/2600 according to rogers website. This is the first carrier phone to use the 2600 network I believe

Because it uses 2,600 Mhz (band 7) for the downlink and 1,700 Mhz (band 4) for the uplink (even though it doesn't list it in the specs).
(Going into the Service Menu on the Optimus G shows off its full band support.)
Without the appropriate uplink AND downlink support, LTE will not work.
Rogers has LTE deployed on bands 4, 7, and 10.
The C6603 supports bands 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, and 20.

meant model Z.........So I just read about this model and see it has AWS and 700 Mhz for LTE - does this mean if I get this phone it will work on AT&T LTE in the U.S? Anyone tried this yet?
also.....Negri Electronics has a unlocked Z Tmobile in black that says it has 700Mhz and AWS LTE bands but they say it can only be used outside U.S. (they list it as international) that AT&T would block it? WTF over?
i dont think at&t will block it. if it supports the at&t lte bands it will get lte but there are multiple lte bands for at&t so if it only supports one of them lte will be spotty depending on the area the phone is used in

Yeah, I don't know......I chatted with a rep there and all he would say is that you cannot use this in the U.S. - I asked if this is because tmobile has a contract w/ Sony and he said I'd have to ask Sony about that. It almost seems like that is what they have to say - but i'm wondering if it would work.
this is what the site says about the frequencies for this model:
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900

Yeah, but are they getting LTE? Why the hell Sony chose to release the ZL with AT&T LTE frequencies but not the Z (at least not officially) is beyond me......
probably the same reason it took 6 months for tmobile to get it(which is the the one i have)
I already tried flashing 6616 baseband. Unfortunately, it doesn't have 700 band LTE. It is from Bell, even though they state that their 6616 has AWS and 700.
I'm currently using 6506 baseband but I can't get access to at&t LTE network.

I have successfully had LTE on AT&T in Southern California but that is the only location..
I cant find any way to get 3g, i only get GSM, which sucks. these are the frequencies in my country for 3g 850 900 2100
any chance i can get it?

The Sprint model can connect to the following frequencies (link):
2G/2.5G - GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
3G - UMTS/ HSPA: 1900/2100 MHz with HSPA+ up to 14.4 Mbps
3G - CDMA: 800/1900 MHz for Sprint
4G - LTE: Sprint: 1900 MHz

I'm assuming that when you say "3G," you're referring to HSPA and when you say "GSM," you mean 2G/EDGE. This means that the Sprint model can only connect to the 2100 MHz frequency in your country for 3G. I don't know how it works in your country, but in the US, some carriers only transmit on certain frequencies in some markets (areas). It may be that your carrier is not transmitting 2100 MHz in your area.
For example, in the US, T-Mobile transmits 3G on 1900 and 1700/2100 MHz. However, it doesn't do this everywhere in the country. In some areas, it will transmit 3G on all of those frequencies, but in other areas, it might only transmit on 1900 MHz because it doesn't have the license to transmit on 1700/2100 MHz in that specific area.
Basically, you need to find out if your carrier is actually transmitting 3G on 2100 MHz in your area. What country are you in and what carrier are you using, just out of curiosity?

I thought it was only indicator man. Mine even show Gsm icon but I got Hsdpa speed here in my country speed download about 800KB/s to 950KB/s

if yiu use GSM sim, indicator show GSM.. maybe on youtube use another cdma carriers. mine if use gsm sim show GSM, when use CDMA show 3G

I'm a huge galaxy fan since I've had the Galaxy S 4g (T959V) for over two years and it has been through hell but keeps working. I rooted it and loaded custom rom, kernel and modem so I do know a little about smart phones. Now I want to buy a new galaxy, but the s4 apparently is very fragile, so I turned to the S3. I jumped at the chance to buy a 9305 with 2 gb ram and quad core processor, but now I'm not sure that was a good idea, since I have T-Mobile and apparently their bandwidths for 3g and 4g are not compatible with i9305. Is there a way in all this rooting and flashing to change the bandwidths that the i9305 uses?

I'm getting a bad feeling that this phone is not going to work well with tmobile 3g/4g without some heavy modification. Any advice welcome!
The bands depend on hardware, so no you won't be able to use the international s3 late version on t mobiles late frequencies but 3g will work as both use 2100

The only possibility is AT&T. However, during my trip to the states last week, I only got h+ in DC. Maybe it was just a problem of coverage. The frequency should be alright. So I'm not sure what to tell you. If you check the specs, it matches the LTE band of AT&T.

C5503 will most likely get nothing above EDGE - which is E+. No carriers over there are set for 2100 MHz, and only few and scattered use 850 MHz. You might get lucky if you hit 850 MHz 3G coverage by AT&T.
