On the 1.28 ROM's, some apps were stored on /data/ partition and get wiped when the phone is unlocked.
Does this still happen on 1.29 stock rom and do I flash Paul O'Brien's zip which is for restoring apps from the 1.28 data partition?
Thanks.

But now he have a custom rom, and he's happy

Hey, not sure if I'm in the right place or if i should be starting new thread. Please forgive me I'm new to this.
I tried flashing 4EXTRecovery to my Inc s all goes well and get told it has been flashed. When I enter recovery it still shows up as cwm recovery and no sighn of change. Not sure if I've done anything wrong. I'm rooted with unlocked boot loader with s-on maybe I need to be s-off.
Thanks

Does 4EXT have root access?
Yes I grant permission. It also in super user app.

Try flashing the recovery from recovery
Get the recovery in img format from the 4ext site, put it in your fastboot folder and open a command window there, type "fastboot flash recovery (name).img
Okay I will have access to a PC in an 1 hour will let you know. Thanks

Hey mate, welcome to xda
Easiest way is to download the free updater from here:
http://4ext.net/
Then install it and select which recovery you want.
Or get the recovery .img and flash it via fastboot
But its super easy to just do it via the app I am not sure if you can on the unlocked bl though
Thanks buddy....

I installed 4ext touch recovery successfully but I faced a problem when i make a nandroid backup it makes the backup in a very short period of time so I am not sure if I can restore the backup I made
Because the backup file size is small
PS when I was on cwm, I used to face the people where the backup file size go over 900 Mbs or it says no enough space for backup
Any help would be appreciated

What does it say when you back up, and how big are your backups? Mine are all about 900mb, on 4EXT
I will check again and tell u

Hi,
Is it true, that phones with a custom recovery don't get OTA updates?
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
They don't get updares by the manufacturer but custom ROM get updated way faster. There are tools which can download these via OTA.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Well, I don't have a custom ROM, I just unlocked the bootloader of my HTC One and installed a custom recovery to get root.
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
You can re-install stock recovery, which i believe will allow OTA updates again.
OK, I see. I used the all-in-one kit to unlock my phone and install a custom recovery. So I thought I could just flash the stock recovery using the kit as well... But where would I get the stock recovery?

Actually the phones with custom recovery still get OTA updates as long as still using stock ROM.

OK, thnx. So I'll have to wait and see if I get the 4.2.2 update.

Correct! But you still need stock recovery to install the update.
You are driving me crazy... So what good is it to receive the updates if I can't install them?
OK, so I still need stock recovery. So the question remains, how so I get the stock recovery?

Currently i'm on trinity rom. And now i want to unlock it without flash the stock ftf. Is it safe ?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
It is wise to use stock ROM but i believe it is possible to unlock it while on custom one. Just remember to backup TA partition
Unlocking your boot loader wipes all user data on the internal memory. Back this up too.

Hello Ive seen a post on how to restore with root, But I would like to restore with out root, can someone please point me in the right direction. thanks.
BTW this is for the Verizon sch-1800
What do you mean by "restoring"? Restocking ? Restore from backup?
You need root to do these things...
Incorrect. Restoring from nandroid needs only the custom recovery.
Restoring system apps and data using tools like Titanium backup requires root.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using xda app-developers app
But you need root to install custom recovery. Is it right?
Nope. Just flash a kernel that has cwm using Odin/heimdall. ( example: overcome kernel 4.0)
No root needed. Just boot to download mode, flash. Done.

I'm sorry I guess I wasn't clear with my question I want to restock my device to factory stock and be rid of root and superuser.

Long story short I got a lemon, and have to restore to stock. I know there isn't am ruu available but is there anywhere I could get stock files? I don't care about flashing them separately.

There's a system dump, but that's about it (and you can't flash that).
You can send it back with it updated with the OTA. Just flash stock rooted, it should be fine.
I'm gonna reset my hboot, recovery and s-on. I'll take the su out of stock rooted. Thanks cap! Your files have been a lot of help.
