My phone is rooted, and i am unable to see software updates when i go to "about". Is there any way to get software updates on a rooted phone?

For ota update you need the stock rom and the stock recovery.

Search found a thread from yesterday, but it just trailed off without an answer.
So a .16 OTA update was recently released. I have a 64GB dev edition, CWM installed and rooted. The normal way of updating does not work...so what do I do? Where do I manually download the update file, and how do I apply it without unrooting, relocking, etc? And which version is right for my phone? The autoupdate downloaded and attempted to install an update for Brightstar WorldWideEdition, is that correct?
An ruu should be posted on htc dev, other than that, devs should be cooking the updates into their roms

Hi all,
I'm on stock 4.2.2 unlocked and rooted but s-on because of 1.54
If an OTA becomes available here in New Zealand, will I still be notified that it's available, even though I can't apply it being unlocked?
Thanks in advance!

You can only update via OTA if you have stock recovery installed and bootloader locked or re-locked. You will also loose root after updating because the update process rewrite over the files needed for root access
I Guess you will have the notification but it will fail if you try to install the update

Yes you will still receive notification of the update but you need to be on a fully stock rom and with stock recovery in order to install it. It is not necessary though to relock bootloader in order to install the OTA.
Unlocked bootloader, flashed TWRP 2.6 but supersu did not root. Fortunately I did a backup of my stock unrooted rom and was able to revert back to it. I just want to know if I un root and relock my bootloader can I still RUU a stock rom since I wasn't really rooted. If so will I be able to receive OTA updates in the future. Thanks

I have notification about update from htc (left the phone with original rom on it)
I accept to update it downloads the update than reboots my phone in recovery but there nothing happends it gives me options to browse the content of the phone whipe dalvik cashe etc.
I am currently running android kitkat 4.4.2 original htc rom with htc sense 5
I have hboot 1.56
Should i install zip manualy from there?
if i do that will it brick my phone? will i loose unlock that i made with java card ?
Are you on a custom recovery? You need to flash the stock recovery for your firmware to accept ota updates. It will not mess with your secure flag or lock status by updating. At least it shouldn't.

When you do any ota, you still lose root. Ota needs stock recovery to work. Check santod's thread on recoveries, firmwares and such thread. It has links and instructions

Hey all. I had my phone rooted for a long time and I have safe strap. Haven't been here in a while and would like to upgrade to 4.4. Now my stock slot is on android 4.0, baseband N900AUCUBNB4. When I try to update it says my software is up to date or says downloading then hangs. How do I return to full stock to update? Thanks.

That thread says there is no need to remove root. If I want to use the ota updates do I have to remove root or will the otas still work? Thanks
Using the odin file/files will install the latest stock nc2 Rom and remove root at the same time. If you then want root use towelroot.
