Hi
I can not change the brightness level of my Htc One.
So i go the menu settings screen .... Then manual brightness it is always the brightess level 100% i can move it to 0 % but the screen is brighter then bright.
I have don this.
1 Manual Doesn't work
2 Power OFF Doesn't work
3 Restart Device Doesn't work
4 Factory Reset Doesn;t work
Bad thing about this is.
1 Phone getting pretty hot can almost bake a egg on it.
2 In the evening it hurts my eyes.
I have the exact same problem. Anyone figured out what how to solve it? It's driving me crazy!
Cheers

are either of you on custom roms?
No... It's stock with the 1.29 update.
rooted?
Are either of you running with Power Saving Mode on? That locks out your ability to adjust the brightness. Of course, one would think that it would also put it on the lowest brightness setting but I digress.
No. It's pure stock. Not rooted and also whether or not power saving is on or not, the brightness doesn't change and power drains quite fast. Any idea?

either install a custom rom and see if that fixes it or exchange it

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone new how to lower the brightness level to below that of stock, up to the level of night mode if I needed.
I like to do a bit of browsing before I sleep, and the brightness levels even on the lowest hurt my eyes! If anyone knows how to do this I would very much appreciate it. Thanks!
UPDATE: Issue helped, and possibly resolved with the help of my mate Rich @ Geek you Up. Check out his app in my thread:

Ive been looking at the Auto-Brightness thread and it seems Cyan already knows how to tweek the brightness values, but I dont even know what a github is let alone the deving needed to acheive this.
cyanogen said:
Anyway, the Desire has 10 auto-brightness levels, and the N1 has only 5. These are just an array of lux/brightness values. I put them into my vendor overlay and rebuilt, and I have to say it's much nicer. I'm going to include it in the next CM.

Cyan if you can help, I would appreciate it!! But understand if the modding is far more important
Like how the brightness dims before the screen auto turns off, or how it is dim when you tap the sleep button in the clock application - these would be good. As for that stock widget that controls the wifi, blutooth, gps, sync and brightness, i never touch it because it messes with autobrightness, but if it could be changed to temporarily go really dim thatd be perfect

Either my friend! The clock application goes even dimmer than I want, so somewhere in between would be great. But I'm sure that could be customized, I just dont know where to start looking..
I'd be really interested in this too - I like reading in bed before going to sleep, but the wife doesn't like the light being on. I have to angle my nexus slightly away as it is too bright, even at the lowest setting, to have it directly facing me while in a dark room.
At random my lcd brightness will go up and down like it's having a seizure. I have tried auto brightness on and off, and with the power saving feature on and off. It's not a bid deal because it usually goes away quickly, but I would like to know if anyone else has it.
here's a video of the problem-
Mine will at times just randomly change itself for no reason and i will have to go back into the menu and adjust it again.
It only happens every once in a while but it is still annoying.
Similar but not the same. Anyone can help us?

You sure that it is not simply the dropdown menu bar at the top? It changes your brightness by keeping your finger on it.

It starts when I'm not even touching the screen. It goes up and down, up and down, et. It's becoming more frequent now. I guess my lcd is dying or something.
same with me. I like to keep my brightness setting to the absolute minimum, however on numerious occassions i find that it has automatically brightned and when i go into the settings the slider is halfway.
I usually notice it after charging the phone, either way it shouldnt happen.
I had the same issue when i have installed the Voodoo lagfix + Voodoo Color.
Without Voodoo color, it was better.
Just want to check that you guys know that
you can adjust brightness using the drop-down status bar, right?
By swiping you finger left/right on the drop-down status bar, you could adjust brightness. (if "automatic brightness adjustment" is off)

I'm positive my lcd is dying. It started with JM1, continued in JPM and JP6. It flickers and goes up/down without any pattern.

What do you mean by flickering? Perhaps the brightness changes in such rapid succession? Try using light sensor test
Dial this number (as if calling someone) *#0589#
Try to block the light sensor with this app running and see if it's just a calibration thing, etc. though I don't know if it is calibrable (or whatever the word is )
PS: AM/OLED (or SAMOLED for that matter) is not a LCD

I've attached a zipped video in the first post.
EDIT: I tried this app when it was doing it, the app didn't respond at all to the changes, it kept reporting "Level 0". Which means it has nothing to do with it and I'm 100% certain this stupid thing is dying. And since I bought an unbranded/unlocked version from ebay, I don't think I can use the warranty. And even if I could, I've heard plenty of horror stories with warranties and support. I would just sell it for parts on ebay.
I bought a Tab P1010 a fortnight ago. Generally been happy with it, but I've noticed something thats begining to annoy.
Just prior to going into standby, the backlight level drops slightly before going off. That seems to be the normal way things work.
However, on mine, the level goes to that stage randomly. Touching the screen may bring it back up after 5 seconds or so, but not straight away. And it happens even when I'm scrolling the screen and there has been activity going on.
Any idea?
Or have I got a return on my hands?
do you have "auto" set on your brightness?
I find when i have brightness set to auto it can go duller or brighter seemingly at random (particularly irritating if im reading)
i mostly manage my brightness level myself
Dont know if this is related to your issue ... good luck

lol I feel such a fool!
I was fully aware of the auto back light setting and had already set it to the unchecked.
However at the weekend, I did a full factory reset. All settings had gone. However, it does show up how useless that setting is as the changes seem very random!
Cheers for the reminder.
Just picked up an ME572c and I'm very impressed for the price. However I have noticed the screen brightness levels keep fluctuating as if the light sensor is constantly detecting different light levels.
Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi,
i notice this too, but that can be related to the power saving mode. Plz turn it off and check the settings in detail. Maybe that helps.
Further inside the developer options there is another option to configure the auto brightness.
You can change the behaviour from dynamic to immediately or slow mode and active an onscreen lux, gain and brightness value display.
Btw i am not satisfied with the auto control, as for my taste the brightness is still too low in a less lighted room. Sensor is reporting 0 lux already with a brightness of 14 which would be ok for a really dark room & night but not at daytime.
What is your experience?
I tried playing with power saving mode and the auto brightness controls in developer options. While I could reduce the fluctuations, I could eliminate them completely. Unfortunately I found it too distracting and returned the device earlier today. It's a shame as everything else was quite impressive for the money.
I also found the fluctuations annoying, my solution was to turn the auto-brightness off. Honestly I dislike auto-brightness on any device, it was also one of the first things I turned off on my laptop.
I am using Lux app now and raised minimum brightness at 0 lux. Thats ok for me now.

Just bumping this to confirm this works and so that others can see. I used Developer options as well (before I found this post) and noticed the instant setting works best.
One more setting to also double check... Make sure that in developer options under auto brightness that you disable allow change gain...
Even with everything disabled it appears as if something still is changing the display. I particularly see it with something like a reddit browser when I'm viewing pictures. You click the pic, it loads and displays and then 1-2 seconds later the display adjusts based upon what is being displayed. Depending upon the picture it can be pretty annoying. I may have to root and start poking around to find out what is causing this.
with the lollipop update this issue is fixed for me.
Is lollipop really solve the problem?

Hello!
Im on lollipop, but the problem you had, still occur at me.
Did you noticed this problem, since you on lollipop?
I have the same problem. When i read, or browsing, the brightness changes in 2-3 steps.
I just really like the whole light up back. I'm a bit of a sucker for lights and flashy unique things.
Does anyone use the phone on X Mode all the time? If so, what kind of impact does it have on battery life?

I haven't run it with xmode on 24/7 yet, but just an FYI, you don't HAVE to have xmode on to have the cool RGB lighting on. You can set the RGB backlight to be on anytime the screen is on, when the screen is off, or when you get calls or notifications, with settings like strobe, breathing, static on, etc.

I have been running on X Mode for a day and getting excellent battery life.. I didn't run without X Mode though to compare..
I don't see the point. Sure, while gaming. But for everything else, balanced is fine. The phone couldn't be anymore responsive. It's quick, no stutters or lag.

Open Armoury Crate - Console - System Lightning - Advanced Settings
Always in X-Mode
I've used it in X-Mode since I bought it. Battery is still great.
I used it just because of the RGB too, but I checked on Advanced Settings today and I say the option "Screen On" and turned it on. Magic, RGB now works without X-Mode.
Time for new battery tests haha.
