Hi,
I'm glad to join the Xperia Z club! I've just bought mine today and was wondering what your favorite ROM's are for traveling.
My first priority is battery life. The other is stability, meaning that the speed won't deteriorate with time. I've had this issue with many ROM's in the past.
Any suggestions/recommendations?
Thanks.
Stock, and these threads are annoying. Go to the dev section and read the user comments and decide yourself.

stability, any of the stock based roms
like KA07, RomAur, turdzrom etc
AOSP roms at this stage have bugs and aren't fully stable yet.

i suggest to use stock rom and try to config Stamina mode well
use shortcuts instead of widgets
and check all auto update inner apps
*then backup ur setting system*
i think this configuration will set best battery life time
>> with normal using of phone and careful in setting stamina mode and etc i have at least 48 hrs with one charge

So helpfull answer
A community is to share expériences ... Basic notion of Communication, discussion and collaboration...
By answering such thing YOU did not participate actively and collaboratively to the sucess of XDA.
For the OP, I agree with others (collaborative user's answers) --> Stock is more secure when traveling and not having all means to recover with you.

honestly if you tire of responding to these thread then dont do it, no one force you to go in his thread and answer it. Get a life, get up from the computer/phone you dont have to sit there and respond to everything, dont blame user for trying to educate themselves by asking questions. it's not like he ask a question in the wrong section either. bottom line YOU HAVE A CHOICE TO RESPOND OR NOT.

Do People still say things like "get a life", I guess so if you're of a certain mentality. Again, I actually answered the question, so if you or any one else doesn't like my opinion, tough. Let's see how you feel after you've answered your 10th "best rom" type thread, you'll soon tire of them, which is why is best not to encourage them.

I learned by reading reading and reading some more, because that's how it used to be on here, in regards to "best rom" threads I suggest you and everyone else read this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2097137
Check the Android Development section. I'm sure that your favorite ROM is there.

Hi,
Just wondering which ICS rom you guys have got the best battery life out of?
I've tried AOKP Milestone 6 & CM9 20120727 both.
Must say the AOKP had better battery. Could easily cross 24+ hours

I owe an apology that I have been to rough in my comments here and agree with wesleyel. It IS more important to guide rather than growl.
I might have forgotten my own postings and I might have more experience from several forums, so I should know better. Also, to our most welcome new members: Read, then read more. Search and use the varst source of information before you post. Many times the answer is right infront of you, or asked/posted earlier in the same thread. If you do look else where you will also benefit from picking up more that you can share, even solve some problems too.
I keep going on with this a bit because it makes it easier for all of us to get proper info faster without having to read about topics spilled all over the place.
Also, reflect a second over what you are asking about/for. Is there a possibility in getting a scientific and correct answere? Like battery backup i ty is very hard to reach such a result because of how we use and set our piece. Maybe you would like to ask around benchmarking instead and take part in how to set rules around this instead?
Just a bit if brain food and trying to be construtive around the subject of posting and such. Peace to all!

That post is for best custom ROM.
That can be different for different people. Some want ROM for gaming, others stability, others battery, other overall performance.
I was specifically interested in knowing about battery life as I have noticed that even with the same settings SetCPU, display etc each custom ROM gives a different battery output.
I travel a lot and battery life is very important for me.

Hey all!
This question as probably been asked a dozen times but I can't find it if it has. So here goes, Is there a list somewhere of UP TO DATE SGA roms? By up to date I mean current as of 09-17-12. I found one on here and props to the user that compilled it but it was last updated March 2012. These roms develop so quick I'd love to be able to keep track of them all I just don't have the time to search through all the threads and forums. Better yet, is there a way to sort the threads based on the thread type? That way it could be grouped by kernel, rom, etc..Any help/ideas are greatly appreciated.
its not the updation matters for a rom.. its all about stability and what and all you expect..
some expect performance and battery life..
some expect cool looks..
its not that updated rom works perfectly always.. sometimes even updates spoil the rom...
so read the whole thread of the rom. replies from peoples.. and then decide on it..
if u tell ur expectations may be we can suggest u the rom
HugoSilva started a http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1888660
Samsung Galaxy Ace ROM`sthread but got a little bit flamed because all Cooper roms and kernels are already in one of two places: the development section and the original development section. The thread titles in these sections often tell you about the rom like kernel, base, version etc. What you don't get from the title you can definitely get from the op. You don't have to search just scroll, but I would suggest to you that if you are too busy / lazy to search then xda might not be the best forum for you.
I have tried pretty much every rom and if you tell me what you are looking for in a rom I would be happy to give you my opinion on the most suitable for you needs.

Thanks for alll the replies guys!
I guess I wasn't making myself clear, it's not that I mind searching/scrolling it's just that with all the threads in here it would be easier to be able to sort them based on type. For instance, if it's a rom it's usually stated as such in the thread title. great that's easy! But, what about being able to sort the thread list so all the "ROM" threads are sorted into one spot? Kinda like a library you know? U go to 900s for Science 800s for sports etc. Same Idea here. I don't see a sort by title/Subject option. only date, which is great but you also get kernels and other stuff mixed in.. Just some thoughts to make things easier for everyone that's all. As far as being called "Lazy" I resent that! If you can't take the time and consideration to answer a simple question without the insults then maybe this forum isn't the place for YOU. Just remeber, you were new at this stuff too at one time and probably had a lot of questions too.

Calm down, mate. I didn't say you were lazy. I said if. And maybe you are too busy! It was not meant to insult you. Yes, I was new at this and I'm certainly no expert but I haven't ever felt the need to start a new thread in 15 months of reading xda (I read for a long time before I signed up) because all the questions I ever wanted to ask have already been asked. If you don't believe me check my profile. I have tried to help you as I do everyone on xda.
If you want all the rom threads organised in a certain way, help yourself. If you think it would be helpful to the xda community post it on here but, as I tried to explain, other people have tried. It is a lot of work to maintain because things change all the time and people expect a thread like that to be up to date. Good luck.
Also, if you are new, as you say, may I suggest that you click the links in my signature as there are good hints and tips for new members.
I'm sorry you didn't find my first reply helpful. I'm sorry if this is not helpful either but both were sent without malicious intent.

no Worries at all. I'm sorry if I took it the wrong way. Just in a bad mood to begin with that day. Again, My Apologies for spouting off there. Really like I said, any help is greatly appreciated!!
EDITED per Admin's suggestions:
Hey xda,
I wanted to make a thread for people who are not as developer-savvy as others to share ideas and make requests for mods/roms/etc.
If a request or idea could generate enough feedback or support, developers would be more informed on what people would want or like to see.
Here are two things that I would personally like to see on my Nexus 4.
On your homescreen, when you press and hold the home button to go to Google Now, is it possible to add shortcuts and or folders to the extra space around the ring? This would allow the user to clean up some screen space by hiding frequent shortcuts.
Also, I would like to see app-specific security (pattern, pin, password) protection. This would allow a user to easily unlock their phone but still have the security they would want for their messaging, facebook, etc.
Thanks for reading.
I'll maintain this thread as best I can and put the best suggestions below.
Best Ideas as of January 02, 2013
Ideas will be added to this list as support is generated.
Ideas will be removed from this list as they are developed or "worked-around."
See the post number for more details.
App-specific security (pattern, pin, password) protection. OP, #1
Simultaneously video recording with both cameras. DonDizzurp, #21
Full calculator as a lock screen widget. AlwaysDroid, #23
5 PNGs as your WiFi/Signal bars. kcls, #32
Multiwindow support. DforDesign, #41
i can add the shrotcuts already in aokp. i think. gimme a sec and ill find out.
edit: yeppers. i guess this is what you are talking about. i dont use them. but i might now that you have talked about cleaning up the home screen.

rom control should be built into most every rom. the features they stick in rom control are different though. i would imagine they all have the navbar deal. its best to flash a rom. find its features and then wipe and add a new rom. and keep going until you find the one you like best. after you find the right one... spend the hours it takes to set up your phone the way you want. for instance.. all of this talkin has caused me to want to throw cyanogen on here to see what those guys have been up to.

There's a big difference between posting direct requests in the development forums and posting a thread in the general forum for collecting ideas you think might be cool to have developed one day. There's nothing wrong with this thread and it's not bothering anybody. It's certainly more useful than the hundreds of threads that occur at every device launch complaining about one hardware defect or another. As an amateur developer I think threads like this are cool places to look for ideas that might be fun to tackle.

except for the am dev part. i dunno devving.
So i was browsing the thread and i came across this, and from the title alone i was ready to shut it down......
But i as i read in to it i had to change my mind. The OP is not blatantly making a request to any specific dev. They are simply stating things they would like to see. Now i know this isnt a place to make you phone look cool and i am obviously aware of the rules. But bedoig brings up a very valid point. Some of the amateur dev's might see this as an opportunity to dig in a little deeper. This is not in the development boards and no one is making a specific request from any of the dev's, so i see no reason to shut this down at this time.
However, since i do not normally moderate this board, then i welcome this boards mods _Arjen_, iridaki, eagleeyetom, YZ, TeeJay3800, Diamondback, AvRS, krook6023 to sidestep my decision if they feel the need to.
@oneonezerosix you may want to consider changing the title of your thread to something that sounds a little less demanding. The Dev's here might take it the wrong way (just a suggestion)

suggestions? sure, to an extent
XDA is here FOR the developers not for the average consumer to pressure devs.
as most xda OG's would say: if you want it done, do it yourself...
if you cant.. then try to learn and get the ball rolling and a dev will probably help you along the way.

After reading the post, I can understand your perspective. All that I ask is that you attempt to understand mine as well.
Zelendel stated that, "XDA is a place to come to learn and share your knowledge."
As an amateur developer, I do not know how to develop much of the things that I wish to be able to use. It was my sole intention to facilitate a discussion of new ideas for development from varying levels of skilled members. Even the best developers can dream of new mods/roms/kernels/etc that they may be unable to produce by their own means. Which is reason enough for one to want to request the assistance of others by posting in a thread like this.
If you do not see any value in this thread, then I apologize for wasting your time.
I am not a Dev and get offended for them when someone says "please add this".
But this is a recollection of ideas, honestly, what's wrong in that? Where would the devs be with no ideas?

I agree. This is an "ideas" thread, not targeted at a specific developer. A dev may take this on board and incorporate it, as they might think its a good idea

Truth is...
You're probably not a developer.
Using dsixda's kitchen, UOT kitchen and winzip (and maybe apktools) does not make you a developer.
Following tutorials and copying/pasting smali code does not make you a developer.
You're an interested user, maybe even a themer, but don't be arrogant. Know the difference.
I'm not saying it's a bad thing. It's great that everyone is willing to learn, and these methods are a good place to start. But I say again: you're not a developer.
Call yourself an interested user, a ROM cook, a learning newbie, a themer if you're good at that, but not a developer.
Obviously, the same applies to me.

WHO THE DEVELOPER ACTUALLY IS ?
Sent from my GT-S5830i using xda app-developers app
Well a developer includes in his work researching, designing, implementing, and testing software. A person who develops stand-alone software (that is more than just a simple program) and got involved with all phases of the development (design and code) is a software developer. On the other hand the one that only implements and does the copy paste of the code is called a programmer. I hope that i was specific and i made myself clear.
ok so we are not devs we know that so why make this thread?

Well said!! I too am seeing too much negativity and rudeness towards people who come here to learn.
They are new so might not understand the rules, yet, but they are here to learn so we should help them not tell them they are worthless noobs and dont deserve your help.
We all learn here and thats what makes XDA a good place to hang out.
No one on this forum is better than anyone else sore may be more advanced along the learning curve.

Nobody here has anything against anyone. Yeah some outbursts are uncalled for. But that is rare. Must be some personal problems or somebody having a bad day. Senior members, contributors, developers etc all have gone through that phase. So dont be offended by anybody's rude behaviour. It wasnt , is and will not be anything personal against anyone. If he ir she has been rude to you....they will realize that later on.

I know that everyone here is human (i guess?) and may have a bad day, but the image that xda passes is that she's not welcoming anyone. It already starts with that noob video that makes me to go through a deep depression. Not complaining about xda, but being nice will bring more people, and sooner or later, more developers, making this community bigger and bigger.

I know that everyone here is human (i guess?) and may have a bad day, but the image that xda passes is that she's not welcoming anyone. It already starts with that noob video that makes me to go through a deep depression. Lol....No u took it all wrong brother. That video isnt about showing anyone down....i have seen it...rather its an informative one accrding to me.....it clearly tells you that "Noob" isnt welcome. Ofcourse....it good to be warned before you start.....newbie is a good thing....people who do not want to read and ask all silly questions when all of it is already mentioned in the OP or a few pages back....are termed as "noobs". When i joined XDA i didnt even had this phone with me....for 6 months what i did was to read and clarified doubts....used google....It has almost every answer to your question...believe . I am still not a developer, nor a themer nor a rom cook....i dont get to spend much time on pc.....even then this googling and reading has given me enough knowledge to clarify my doubts myself. XDA is not a human or animal.....its all of us together....that video was sarcastic and informative. Such videos dont depress you...its the people here on XDA who are responsible for your depression and happiness. And as far as i know...here people are quiet helpful....just a few "anger bursts" but that i believe is quiet fine and normal... We have people from all cultures and countries. Diffrences do tend to occur.
Where do u suggest to start to learn if I know these "basic" things and I'd like to be a developer of this phone?

This thread is still alive?
There are plenty of tutorials here and in the development section. You can also check the ROM cooking XDA forum.

Yeah, man, you're right. Because of your answer, i've realized that being a noob is not a bad thing. Everyone started as a noob. Act like one is the problem. Starting a new thread to ask if we got jelly bean means asking for a "anger burst". Exactly like you said, by having a Galaxy Ace I/C/M, we got a lot of countries, like Brazil (from me) and countries from Asia. So, thanks for your answer, and sorry for your trouble.
GermainZ what you explained in the first post isn't developing, it's programming.
Everyone can be a developer, as long as they're helping the project, even if its only reporting glitches, bugs etc, they're still developers.
Programming on the other hand requires some experience but isn't that difficult as you think it might be, Just look at python lol, pretty much anyone who knows english can write in that.
I think you might need do a little research before posting such ****ty threads.

This is out of context now.
If I remember correctly, when I posted this, there was some kind of flame war going on between ROM cooks/users (not sure what exactly it was about, or who was involved - it doesn't matter). This thread was mostly to show that while everybody appreciates the effort, they shouldn't act as if they are superior. You really should have been there to understand.
The whole OP is exaggerated for that (and FYI, since you mentioned it, I can code basic stuff in C++/Java, and more advanced stuff in Python, tho I prefer Python as it's neat, has one of the best documentations I've seen, and I can execute it directly from within my bash scripts without any extra steps).

He wasnt showing anyone down....but he was just clearing the air as there were quite a number of people who were calling themselves developers and were showing some superiority in their behaviour with newbies or even other members.....which in any point is not acceptable. Doesnt matter whether you are recognised developer, themer, elite member or moderator.....here every one is contributing in their own way and every one is in the same level.

And anything else you want to say to Germainz for that " Sh***y thread" comment above?
Hi, i hate the phisical slider on the oneplus 3. If I understood well, the only way to disable it is by installing a new rom. BUT I want maximum battery life, stability and easy updates.. Can you help me choose the best rom?
I'd say LineageOS is a safe choice
Sultan's LOS is the best so far

Battery life and stability are totally subjective. They will vary greatly from one user to another (on the same ROM) due to a number of variables. You can start with some recommendations. But you may find you don't agree with the advice in the end. Take a look at what ROM features appeal the most to you, and just flash it.
As far as updating, all the ROMs are easy to update. You just flash it like you did to begin with (for that ROM). Dirty flash (not wiping user data) is often possible, depending on what in the ROM was updated (always be prepared to clean wipe if needed). If you are looking for ROMs with OTA updates, that is a different story. But you didn't ask for that specifically.

Then just look for the feature in the ROM descriptions. You are' asking strangers to do the research or make decisions that you should do yourself.

Did your doctor order you to answer me in order to have good health? I asked precisely because i don't have time to try all of the roms. I ask to those that have tried them and that want to share their experiences with me. Don't answer me, thanks.
thanks. uumas and d3xtro. i know lineage and i'll give a look to sultan LOS.

You have absolutely no reason to be rude to someone who speaks truth. Everyone have different usage patterns, needs and while for one a specific ROM can work wonders, for the other may work like $hit.
If you don't have time to test, then you probably shouldn't be doing this at all. We, as a long time xda members are just fed up with these type of questions, because people don't (or don't want to) understand that no one can fit fully ones' needs.
If you want to know, what's the other people experiences with a specific ROM, why don't just look up the official thread and read their posts?

I politely asked for an davice. One of the answers to my request was rude. That's all.

Point out how my reply was "rude" as in offensive, insulting, name-calling, or a personal attack. You won't find any. It was all factual, and actually pretty good advice.
Folks often like to resort to calling someone "rude" or "insulting", when they have simply been informed of a simple fact they don't want to accept.
Also, take note that there are already plenty of ROM recommendation threads. You failed to do a simple search, otherwise you could have read plenty of recommendations from those existing threads. It clutters up the forum when every person why want a ROM recommendation makes a new thread, instead of just utilizing one (of the many) existing threads.
I believe the forum is more cluttered by your answers than anything else. If I did something wrong, there are the mods ready to delete posts and threads. Are you a mod?
