Hi,
I have a Galaxy S that was in version 2.2. I tried to update it in different ways to a stock version of Gingerbread without success. When I update through ODIN fails to start, stays on bootloop until I return to flash to 2.2.1 version and starts correctly. I've tried a lot of different stock versions 2.3.3, 2.3.6 .... withoud success. This device is free operator.
Does anyone know it has happened or may happen??
Now It's working whit this version:
PDA: I9000XWJSD
PHONE: I9000XXJPY
CSC: I9000OXXJS6
Build Info: 2011.05
BASEBAND: I9000XXJPY
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9 [email protected] #1
Build number: FROYO.XWJSD
Thanks
if it is not a problem and you are confidnt you know what you are doing
please test [ROOTED / 3FILE] XWJWB#_XEEJW2_XWJW1 by stock+
Thanks for the quickly answer but I follow your steps but is on BootLoop again...
Somebody have any idea??
make sure youve got GT-I9000 -> check the stickr under battery
flash firmware that boots and use KIES to update

After each flashing I wipe data/factory reset, this aren't the problem.
I installed Cyanogenmod 11.0 and running, but I want to install a stock version 2.3.x...

Go to this site " sammobile.c o m/firmwares " and in the search field tipe gt-i9000. Download the rom of your choice. You have to register by e-mail first. I think that the German rom is the best. I tried about 5 or 6 different roms. Flash and then if you have a problem with rooting we are here.

Thank you to those kind souls who pm me.
Its been solved.
You guys are great!
Please post the solution you got from your PM's,
that is what this forum is about.
Not that I have your problem though, I would have factory reset, wipe SD, repartition SD etc, to try to get it to work.
But again, please post your solution for future reference.
The solution probably has something to do with having to root and install a custom recovery image first, rather than trying to flash a ROM from the stock recovery.

Now I think its because u didn't Rooted ur device (SU Box Installer) and installed CWM before flashing the rom.
So now I think u have to download the stock rom. Extract it and check for the Zimage file. Flash it via PC Odin while ur in download mode (Press & Holding Vol Down+Home Key+Power key)
And then try to reroot and see if it helps...Im not sure but if smone knw the proper way then please correct me...

yes you can, but it would be better if you flash I9001XXKPS, its 2.3.6 and supported for most mods

You can install cf -root kernel, look at it in forum development
Sent from Galaxy S ICS
thx.
thx for information bt i forgot to say this,
im new here.
so can u link it or something plz?
i could find so many development menu in this forum so i dont knw where i should search that thing.
download superuser from the market, if you can use it then your phone is rooted
thx mate
i can download and run superuser bt theres nothing in it.
no apps list and no log information appears.
does it mean mines not rooted? or yes?
only apps that requires root is displayed in the apps list and log. yeah your phone is rooted if still in doubt find an app in the market that requires root
gud gud gud
hmmmmmm thx.
bt why my phone is so gay if my phones already rooted?
everyone says phones r getting faster at running apps or else but mines so slow.
anything i hav to do for that?
rooting is the same as having administrator rights on windows pc, it doesnt improve anything but instead gives you rights to modify your system. try RAM Manager Free from the market, it can improve your phone.
you can also download CF-Root-ext4-v1.3-Addon.apk from chainfire's thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108&highlight=chainfire
after you download the .apk put it in your phone and install it, open the app and click convert to ext4. this is basically a lagfix.
IF u want ur phone faster and stable and long battery life life try to install custom rom. It depends upon ur test which one u like...i suggest you to install DarkyRom its much stable , faster and better battery life..!

Hi all,
I've tried searching the forums but unfortunately my search did not turn up anything that specifically addressed how to tackle my problem. I'm generally quite bad with computers/phones/etc., and unfortunately my first attempt at rooting my phone didn't work out. My husband isn't good with phones either. It got stuck in a boot loop and I had to flash a factory firmware to recover the use of my phone, which took me a few hours to understand and perform. (All the data however was wiped, but thankfully I had backed my data up beforehand).
I am still interested in rooting my device, but am now afraid that I will screw it up again. I was hoping someone could please help me out as I do not want to permanently damage or lose all my phone's data again. Here are the details of my phone, please let me know what I need in order to root it. I will provide any other information necessary.

Firmware version: 2.2.1

Thank you for any help provided. I would really appreciate a step by step guide if possible, because I'm so inept at dealing with these matters, and unfortunately my husband isn't much help either. Thanks all.

Hi,
Thank you for your reply. I tried flashing to 2.3.6 using odin3v_1.7 but I got the same problem with a boot loop again! I have flashed back to the factory firmware again, and am back at square one. I'm really not sure what I'm doing wrong. Thank you for your reply though.

If you are still on 2.2 .1 just connect it to KIES http://www.4shared.com/file/rcHB94q3/Kies_23212064_10_1.html and let it update it for you..IF it works without any problems.
or else you may have failed to Format your SD card and factory reset before flashing using odin and also do a wipe after flashing in recovery mode.
or you may have ticked repartition in Odin? that cause the boot loop

Thank you very much everyone! I really appreciate all the suggestions, will try them all out later tonight and let you guys know how it worked out.
You guys are awesome. =)
If you want to root GB, any version, use superoneclick. Works great, but you wont have a custom recovery that can flash update.zips. Or you could just flash a rooted kernel via odin so you get cwm and other features such as bln, cpu scaling etc. Also if you want to go to ics, flash an ics kernel, boot into recovery flash any ics rom and your good to go.
Good Luck!
Hi,
Personally I flash a Darkyrom GB ROM (you can find it on his website). Best part about it is you dont need to be rooted to flash his ROM. Try searching for 10.2 RE JVU on his website. All you need is a .tar file and flash it via odin. I think TotallydubbeHD has a video tutorial on youtube as well.
Trust me, its safe. I have flashed it countless of times
Thank you so much everyone! It finally worked! Everyone has been such a great help, thank you so much everyone. <3

You won't be able to update officially as long as you are on custom kernel, first flash stock kernel for your stock rom and then update using kies. You can also flash stock GB firmware first and then update officially to 4.0.4.
You do not have to unroot to update using kies.

That's great if you already have GB downloaded, if not then flashing kernel if much short and easy, you can do it using mobile odin. You may be already aware but still, do not try to wipe when you are on stock kernel. Better to wipe before you flash stock kernel, if you choose this way.
Not your fault

Boot loop is normal after flashing GB rom using odin, just boot in stock recovery and wipe data. But do it if you are sure that GB rom was flashed successfully? I mean did you get the "pass" message and all confirmation in odin? If yes then wipe in stock recovery.

Your suggestion didn't solve the problem. I'm still stuck at the boot screen.
Mobile Odin initiated the reboot so I am guess it thought it had finished correctly.
Hope you have more ideas to share.

I have tried that too. Odin sees the device checks the files and then stops cold.
Thanks for trying.
Can you post log, what you getting while flashing GB ROM with PC odin
-Disable firewall/antivirus
-Change USB port, don't use extension cable for USB connection
-Rebbot into download mode
-Reflash GB ROM, and any error copy logs and post here.

This morning the nice folks at a Samsung service point, "fixed" my phone. We don't share a common language so all I was able to get out of the conversation was that it was "software" problem.
Here is how it stands now:

I assume that the changes resulted from whatever the service people did.
I would still like to get my phone back to stock but that seems like risky business to me.
My thanks to everybody lent a hand.
