its been a few months now and still no parts for my xperia so i cant get it fixed.
i have been wondering if its possible for someone to make a cab to turn off/on hardware headset jack or forcibly use handset speaker when in a call orsomething?
BTW i have tried all possible fixes using the "search feature"
Are you describing the problem where even though there is nothing plugged into the 3.5mm jack, the XPERIA thinks you've got something plugged in? If so, I'm having the same issue and have found that a quick way to fix this is to take the stylus and wiggle it about at the bottom of 3.5mm jack. This clears it up.
well yeah that worked before but my jack is kinda broken but working
some of the metal in the jack is really loose and the jack has a small broken part.
I had the same issue where my headphone jack reported that there was a constant headphone plugged in, it happened after I plugged a damaged headphone port into the phone.
It took many hours of research and a very intricate and careful dissasembly to fix the issue. I meant to take photos, but my primary camera ( my X1 ) was in pieces at the time..
Anyway, there's a little connector inside the headphone jack that makes contact with a pad, closing a circut, if the connector is bent too far out of the way, it doesn't make contact, and the phone thinks there is a headset inserted.
If your connector is actually broken, you'll have to jerry-rig a wire or something between the two plates to force it to know there's nothing in, but then you lose all headphone functions.
I had to bend the strip of copper to -exactly- how it should be, and it worked out for me, my phone is back how it used to be.
I hope this is of some help to someone, if it happens to me again, I'll document it properly, unfortunately I was in a rush this time, so I didn't have time to prepare properly, I went gung-ho and ripped it to pieces to get it right again.
what about a "software" method of fixing this problem?
doesn't windows mobile support turning headset off, from the registry, for example?
while using radio you can still redirect the sound to the main speaker, (this option is available on the radio panel) something like this feature can help us, i think..
Same problem here. I have tried some suggestion over here but didn't work. You may try it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4485113#post4485113
I'm tired with annoying wire headset and now using a BT headset to be able make/receive calls.
Hope somebody can help us before we send back for repairing.
It happened to me, simply insert a clean "cotton buds" and pull it out again. I think, a dirt just got stuck causing some hardware short circuit or something. Don't know....but it definitely worked for me. I have tried those hardresets, softresets, tweaks and unfortunately none of them worked.
try to drain the battery and charge it back up.
Sometimes would be nice to combine some of the threads because they refer to the same problem
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=529449
Anyway from my knowledge there are two reasons for this problem.
You may guess
1. Hardware:
This issue had been described very often. Of course the jack is a delicate piece of hardware, which could be damaged physically due to some bad plug or violent force.
2. Software:
It's obvious that the connection is controlled by a piece of software.
I realized that the problem had gone with the latest update.
Maybe it would be helpful to know about the firmware version you got on your phone.
P.S.: Anyone out there who may add this issue to the wiki?

Hey guys, over the past couple days, it seems my phone has lost some audio abilities, what's weird is that some audio STILL works, here we go:
- Notifications (Text and email) *WORK*
- Music Player/Youtube Videos/Phone Calls(inside the call, and ringing) *DO NOT WORK*
- Phone Calls in SPEAKER mode *WORK*
Here's what I've tried:
- Flashing to stock via Odin (Did a flash, didn't master clear.)
- Reflashing Serendipity 6.3 (What I was using before, should I maybe try a different ROM? It's an i897 ROM.)
- "Pressing" on the speaker, as I heard some have connection problems, but this is almost a year after owning the phone.
- Different audio apps (Stock music app, and PowerAMP)
Any ideas?
Bump. REALLY need help.. Trying a format/reflash now...
so the ear speaker isnt working but the Loud speaker does?
the "press on it" trick is for the loud speaker on the back..
sounds like a hardware problem. there is a REALLY EASY FIX. call samsung and get it replaced. flash to stock before you send it in.
I bought it from ebay, new in box. The chances of Samsung accepting my phone for a refurb is nonexistent, isn't it?
Being without a phone isn't an easy fix for me. =P
Bump. Solution found.
It was actually my headphone jack failing. I pushed in my headphones, played some music and noticed the button on the samsung headphones wasn't working, I took the jack out, blew into it, and now the headphones no longer work, but audio is coming through the speakers again.
Fixed my problem, although it wasn't the fix I wanted, since I use my phone for all my music, constantly.
I had the same problem. Turned out to be lint from my pocket in the headphone jack. If you have lint, get a needle, take pliers and bend a small hook in the sharp end. Pull out the lint that got jammed in with your headphones. I posted this fix a while ago in the SamsungCaptivateForum.com. I thought I was the only one who had the problem.
You know, that makes a lot of sense. I took a can of air spray this afternoon and let the headphone jack have it, and now it seems fixed. I think it might have been dirt from work. (Damn you, construction!)
Nice!
Thanks for the tips, I was having the same speaker issue and this certainly helped me out. My music player would cut in and out randomly if had it playing on the loud speaker.
How bout a pair of bluetooth stereo headphones instead of relying on headphone jack? I have motorola motorokr s305. I got em off ebay for $30 and they work pretty good.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Does anyone know if the "no sound from the internal speaker" issue is caused by some other component rather than the just speaker itself?
Sent from my Nook Color using XDA App
Do you have sound from the headphones? Are you using Dalingren's Nook Tweaks to increase DAC- could be blown speaker? Volume + key to the max?
Try a reboot. If that doesn't work, unroot before returning it to store for another unit if under warranty.
Thanks for the suggestions. I'm out of warranty. I have flashed back to stock and flashed CM7 from a wipe multiple times. I do have sound from the headphone jack though.
I know this is an older post, but I am having the same issue. The internal speaker seems to be dead. The headphone jack works, and I have tried several different roms trying to resolve it. Has anyone else had this issue, killing the internal speaker? Is there any fix for it?
Something that often happens is that the headphone jack gets mangled, and the speaker cutoff gets stuck. I can't offer specific guidance, but poking gently inside the jack might free things up.
A bright light and knowing what it's supposed to look like inside will help a lot here.
I checked the internal speaker, and it works. The headphone connection also seems fine, and is seldom used. I am wondering if the driver got messed up at some point with a ROM...is there any way to check (and fix) this?
Hi There everyone,
Well i just got my XPERIA Z1 yesterday and i had spilt water on it. All the flaps were closed and i had dried it all off. Afterwards (1 and a half hours later) i decided to listen to some music but the problem was that as soon as i inserted my headphones into the jack it would not play any sound from the headphone itself, it would only play the sound from the phone's speakers. The headphones were working perfectly normal in the morning when i was using the phone before i spilt the water. I assumed that the headphone jack had not fully dried so i left it for about 3-4 hours and now as soon as i plugged in my headphones the same problem came. I tried the original sony headphones that came in the box and there is a strange static/buzzy coming from the headphone and yet the sound would slightly play from the phones speakers. I do not know what to do and this is not exactly what i expected from a waterproof phone.
THINGS THAT HAVE BEEN DONE: I have updated my phones software to the latest, i have tried switching it off and on again and tried using both sony headphones including the original one.
If anybody comes up with a solution to this i would be extremely grateful.

get a q-tip or earbud and clean and make sure the inside of the headphone jack is completly clean and dry.
I highly doubt it would have not dried after so many hours, i live in a hot country and i just came from outside and i tried again, and yet i am still facing problems.
can anybody please help? Am i the only one who is experiencing this???
this has been discussed many times, it seems to be a software fault possibly due to smart connect, unless you indeed have a defective unit. try turning on and off smart connect and the profiles associated with your headphones, that did it for me.
hi i put some water on my z1 and the headphone jack is no longer working as the headphones are not getting detected, any sound comes through the speakers and not the heaphones. can anybody hep?

Sounds like a defective unit (i.e. water seeps into the headphone jack).

Firstly, ensure that the Event(s) are turned on in Smart Connect.
Secondly, it could possibly be because of your defective jack that the phone is unable to detect your headphone being plugged in, and that's why the Event is not triggered.

I have hardware problem (i think). Tried changing firmware, cleaning jack etc...still not working. So the question is: if the water really damaged jack, can replacing it fix the problem?
Hello developers around XDA...I got a issue of no sound from earpiece and speaker on my Sony Xperia ZR device since when I was on stock rom. later I decide to switch from stock to custom rom to solve this issue but unfortunately it wasn't work. I wonder about many people are still facing same issue on different devices even in Google premium phone Pixel XL 2. I am finding answer online about the cause and many people have told headjack faulty which prevent to route audio on speaker and Earpiece. I am finding solution to get it fix from system root path or any code edit in root path without use of third party app like sound about or audio router.
So I need developers to look into issue on how to route audio without app permanently. Any fix from developers would be appreciated and ready to test on device.
try sound about from the play store
I know about " Sound about" and "Audio Router" app. But my concern is to fix this issue without app by ROM. How soundabout app works to route audio by blocking headset which Android see as plug-in. That trick should be in ROM in the form of switcher inbuilt in Android settings.

Hi! I started to have the same problem few months ago. I was on stock lollipop. So I figured I flash LineageOS. It didn't help. I think it's a headphone jack fault. I've had this phone for four years and every day i listen music. I think headphone jack just wore out.
EDIT: I changed my display two years ago. Had water damage (seawater). I think the headphone jack thing, may come from that too.
This problem started to me when I was on lollipop Sony stock rom so I decide to switch to Lineage or other ROM but issue wasn't solved. I use soundabout which relieve me from this issue but as you told it might be headphone jack problem..it's seems to be doubt because other devices from legacy till Pixel XL 2 owner facing same issue even they didn't use headphone daily. So may be it's a issue related to Sound certificate/license expiry for legacy device...

I have the same problem too
I know the problem & the solution.
Problem: Only Media Tones (Loudspeaker / Music / In-Call audio) is broken.
That is because the headphone jack is loosened. The correct way to solve the problem is to plug a headphone jack (I used 3 pole) and properly unplug the jack while playing a song.
Check for audio again, plug / unplug until you can listen to the music by speaker.
Another way is to use log cat and look exactly where it is stuck after plugging & unplugging.
I encountered this after plugging audio cable to my car. Unfortunately, I cannot plug it in again because it is too loose to be usable and might permanently fell into headphone jack attached mode.
The whole set is available at Alibaba (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Ori...Jack-Audio-Flex-Cable-Mobile/32717114182.html)
Thanks to @namenlos from ZL thread for sending me the alibaba link.

Hi, glad it worked out for you.
If possible, please make a tutorial (or a thread) or suggest a step wise YouTube video that you watched, so that we can help other users.
Thanks!
