Headphone Jack issues - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi There everyone,
Well i just got my XPERIA Z1 yesterday and i had spilt water on it. All the flaps were closed and i had dried it all off. Afterwards (1 and a half hours later) i decided to listen to some music but the problem was that as soon as i inserted my headphones into the jack it would not play any sound from the headphone itself, it would only play the sound from the phone's speakers. The headphones were working perfectly normal in the morning when i was using the phone before i spilt the water. I assumed that the headphone jack had not fully dried so i left it for about 3-4 hours and now as soon as i plugged in my headphones the same problem came. I tried the original sony headphones that came in the box and there is a strange static/buzzy coming from the headphone and yet the sound would slightly play from the phones speakers. I do not know what to do and this is not exactly what i expected from a waterproof phone.
THINGS THAT HAVE BEEN DONE: I have updated my phones software to the latest, i have tried switching it off and on again and tried using both sony headphones including the original one.
If anybody comes up with a solution to this i would be extremely grateful.

get a q-tip or earbud and clean and make sure the inside of the headphone jack is completly clean and dry.

I highly doubt it would have not dried after so many hours, i live in a hot country and i just came from outside and i tried again, and yet i am still facing problems.

can anybody please help? Am i the only one who is experiencing this???

this has been discussed many times, it seems to be a software fault possibly due to smart connect, unless you indeed have a defective unit. try turning on and off smart connect and the profiles associated with your headphones, that did it for me.

hi i put some water on my z1 and the headphone jack is no longer working as the headphones are not getting detected, any sound comes through the speakers and not the heaphones. can anybody hep?

Sounds like a defective unit (i.e. water seeps into the headphone jack).

Firstly, ensure that the Event(s) are turned on in Smart Connect.
Secondly, it could possibly be because of your defective jack that the phone is unable to detect your headphone being plugged in, and that's why the Event is not triggered.

I have hardware problem (i think). Tried changing firmware, cleaning jack etc...still not working. So the question is: if the water really damaged jack, can replacing it fix the problem?

[Q] Xperia T no earpiece sound? (SOLVED)

Just bought a used xperia t with part of the headphone jack stuck inside and the earpiece/apps/music has no volume. I have removed the headphone socket but damaged it removing the part stuck inside. Now I assumed the phone would work ok with it removed but still has same issue.
Anyone know if having the socket removed would revert the phone into headphone mode? I can use it on speaker phone and you hear alarms and notifications but nothing through earpiece and apps and games are silent.
Do you think it's a separate issue as I have factory reset it twice but still the same. I have seen sockets on eBay but they are around £28 delivered and don't really want to spend that if its gonna be the same.
I read about issues due to software so considered reverting it back to ICS since it came with latest JB software.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Simon.
Just solved it myself. It still thinks it in headphone mode so downloaded an app from play store called "SoundAbout" which has an option to disable jack detection so it now works just no headphone socket unless I get a replacement.

This sounds similar to the problem I had, im not sure if it was moisture damage or if the headphone jack is damaged. Do headphones play sound okay? If so its probably doing what mine did where it doesnt detect the headphones being removed and thinks they are still plugged in. My problem sorted itself out, I just happened to be using a aux cable for a car stereo and after unplugging, the speakers magically started outputting again.

Having the same issue, it's the headphone jack. I temp fixed it by constantly plugging my headphones in and out but it comes back after a while
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Free mobile app

Ive found the headphone jack on a few websites which sell parts for our SP, would replacing the jack solve the issue do you think? The part is small and uses a clip in ribbon cable so I don't think it would be too difficult to do. Before my issue fixed itself, I was considering buying the jack and attempting to replace it, I just wasn't sure if that would actually fix the issue.

It could be a software or hardware problem. Very rarely music fails to play on mine but it is fixed when I restart my phone. However, after heavy use the headphone jack does wear down quite easily.
Try replugging the headphone or resetting the phone and playing music again, or blowing into the headphone jack with an air blower. Cotton swab can help clean the inside but may also introduce more dust. Also try cleaning the plug and then spinning the headphone plug around; if is damaged you may need to have it at a certain angle and pull it out slightly.
The headphone jack is probably my biggest problem this phone it's broken on me twice. After constant use, the headphone jack gets a bit too deep and buzzes on the left side when a plug is inserted all the way in. When I went to Taiwan last summer I had it repaired (took them about a week) and it worked fine for a few months but then the same problem came back. Well, it got worse because I accidentally dropped the phone with headphones plugged in - the second time on soft carpet and it still caused this problem. Hope to have it repaired the next time I go to Taiwan.

Sony Xperia C6616 Headphone jack problem (one ear not working)?

Hello. I'm going to keep it brief. My phone's headphone jack has been messed up for a long time now (maybe a year, and I've had it for two years exactly). The left ear will have sound, and accessory will work, but the right ear is not working. As far as I know, there hasn't been any water inside the headphone jack, so I don't understand what's wrong with it. I'm running official firmware (latest), never rooted the phone or anything. Is there any way to test if the headphone jack is actually faulty? I don't want to pay 50$ to fix it, considering that I could get a chinese phone that performs similar if not better for like 100ish$. I remember I used the headphone jack normally in the morning, and when I went to plug my earbuds once I was done with classes, the right ear wasn't working.
Thanks!

Stupid question, have you tried other headphones?
Anyway, mono audio is usually caused when the jack is not fully inserted, try blowing some air in it and see if anything is stuck in there, For the jack to fully enter you should feel and hear a click. Post results here

Hey. Sorry for the late answer. Yeah I've tried with so many different headphones, even my Logitech G430. I guess it's the hardware itself. Can't say I didn't drop it from ear level on concrete so...
Please check if something is stuck there because it is really strange, also make sure you plug the jack all the way in. Other than that, there is not much else to do...

XZ1c won't detect headphones when connecting, always plays audio through speakers

My XZ1 Compact's headphone jack suddenly stopped detecting any connection. I've tried cleaning out the port, shaking in case there's any dust, and blowing into the port with an air compressor to try removing the dust. Restarting the phone does nothing. Beforehand all I did was unplug my headphones. This is the third time it's happened to my phone since I got it in January. The previous two times it happened it fixed itself after about ten minutes. This has been ongoing for over twelve hours.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure that you have registered you phone with Sony, then call support and they will get you to try some fixes. They will ask you to repair it with PC compainion. Call them back and say that's not fixed it and they will give you an address to send the phone to. The last time I sent a phone back it was with me again in 5 days all fixed and cost me nothing.
I had the same problem in my Z3.
The Sound About app gives you a workaround, it let's you manually change output.

I have the same issue as OP, but if I use other ear/headphones or use a 3.5 extension cable and original earphones that's having issues, the audio routes to the headset.
I couldn't run the "Sound About" app, it just constantly crashed on me on after installing it. I used another app called "audio router" and it does the same functionality. I can get audio to route to my original headset that wouldn't work but my microphone does not work and then making phone calls the phone's speaker wouldn't work but the headset would get audio but the phone uses the mic on the phone instead the headset.
Is this hardware issue? It sounds like software to me, because the phone does work with other headset/headphones at least the ones I've been testing, like the Sony headset that came with the phone and a broken headset where the right channel didn't work these two work just fine.
