What's up fellow Atrix HD owners! I just picked up the AHD today and am absolutely loving the phone!
I switched over from the GS3 so I am getting a little used to the forum section we have here..Lol but hey I've been following the threads since this section was created! I can't wait for the Developing to begin! The phone is still new so I understand for very slow development at the moment but for now I am enjoying the phone regardless of root or any ROMs!
This community we got so far seems great and I hope to get this phone's full potential out with you guys! :fingers-crossed:
First thing I noticed was the Notification LED!! So happy this phone had it! Made the switch slightly easier haha, also glad to say it is MULT-COLORED!! So we are able to change the color! (Light Flow Lite is the app I used its Free)
How are you guys holding up with the phone thus far?? Especially those whom had the GS3?? You guys enjoying this phone as much as I am?!
Can I ask what made you swap phones?
I love the phone i had the s3 for a day and couldn't stand the feel of the phone or touchwiz. I had the one x which i loved and sold for this and i haven't missed it yet. The one thing i gave up is the battery life but i have an anker battery pack to charge it so it doesn't bother me that much. I think the detail in the screen is amazing coming from my eyes.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one that loves this phone! It why the hox dropped on price. The phone its really smooth and so close to ics you have too love it. I also heard that a juice pack case us coming out next month for this bad boy so everyone better be ready.. Yea working at an Att store i get to play with all the phones, the gs3 is a bit better do to the 2gb ram but that's really it. I hate the blue tint you can see on the gs3, after using this phone. Also if you have used the native email on thus phone you're missing out its way better than gmail.... I just hope the new update will fix the camera thing

Wow.. pretty interesting.. you swapped the GS3 for the AHD? Am curious what caused you to make the switch other than the blue tint on the screen. Most people rave about the GS3! And now that the dust has settled from the fiasco with Amazon when I ordered my AHD, I am back to square one trying to decide which phone is best. ATT has bent over backwards for me and is matching any deal I can get from Amazon on the GS3, HOX or AHD so needless to say I'm going to order from ATT directly.
And now that the HOX is the same price as the AHD, it makes the choice a bit more difficult. From what I understand the HOX battery lasts longer and the camera is superior, but the lack of multi-tasking and the hardware/software issues with the phone don't make it that appealing. So the choice now is really between the GS3 and the AHD. With Sammy selling over 10 million GS3's there's obviously tons of people that love the phone, while Moto is far behind in all ways. And it also appears its not likely this phone will get a JB update either.. Any advice you folks can lend? Thanks.

Yeah mainly I swapped because i really love the feel of the AHD. It feels very firm and well built in hand compared to the GS3. Surprisingly IMO it feels a tad bit lighter as well so I liked that as well. Don't get me wrong though not only build quality but touch wiz was also another reason. It wasn't cutting it for me, the fact the AHD was very ICS and lightly skinned by Moto was a big win! Also spec wise both are very similar! Only setting them apart is the battery and ram but i haven't noticed any problems within those area thus far. Using juice defender and the provided Smart Battery Extender really helped out alot!

I totally understand how you feel! After having the GS3 for close to a month I was able to really get accustomed to touch wiz and it want quite what i was looking for..it did have ICS embedded but idk there was just something missing. Something theAHD has makes me not miss the GS3 at all haha.
Oh and the display...man just amazing so much clearer and crisp IMO smaller screen but not by much this is just right for me! Loving that color boost!

Haha yeah this phone is just amazing! About the blue tint is very true! Coming from the GS3 I've noticed whites on this phone are very true! Colors just seem more natural as opposed to being very saturated on the GS3 !
I was thinking about getting the HOX but despite having no external micro sd slot that was a deal beaker for me. Also I'm very exited to hear our phones are capable of using a 64gb micro sd as opposed to the advertised 32gb!
And yes only downsides to me are the battery and ram but with juice defender and batt ext. I've noticed nothing less on usage time I was experiencing with the GS3!
Using the gmail app atm since my google account was synced but i have to check that out!
The camera could use a good update actually. Another possible win for the GS3 and HOX is the camera but honestly I've been able to take decent pictures nonetheless!

Getting a price match at ATT is unheard of for me so your actually in a very good position haha. Since your choice had dwindled down to just the AHD and the GS3 it'll be a little tough and I'd say at this point it would be total preference.
Coming from the GS3 the only feature i am current missing is the camera. Yes it did have 2gb ram and bigger screen etc. but the screen is incomparable to the AHD IMHO side by side its noticeable in color hues, quality, clarity. Both are HD i believe the GS3 is using the pentile display still so i was noticing that a lot. With the AHD it was more of a natural look to me which i really love!
As far as battery i did mention that with the use of juice defender and the Smart Actions Battery Extender I'm Sweeting the same amount of usage i had on the GS3! So I'm really only missing out on the camera and ram at this point.
If you really are in a bind though..what i can suggest is you do a trial of both phones, i believe ATT offers a 30 day exchange period, so you can test each phone for 2 weeks to get a good feel Of both phones before actually making a final decision! That is exactly what i did and i couldn't be more happier with my choice haha.

Well I went to the ATT store and chatted for a while with a rep that's a big Atrix fan.. he has an Atrix 2 that he's rooted etc.. Another very important point to me is when/if the device gets the JB update since Google Now is amazing. My concern about the AHD is that Moto may never unlock the boot loader and may take ages if ever to update to JB. We already know Sammy may send out the update as early as next month or at least before the holidays if not sooner. And the GS3 in garnet red is a very sexy looking device, though it's not as sturdy as the AHD. Since Sammy has sold over 10 million it has quite a following. The only question is am I going to be one of them. At $100 its a lot of phone but I do have concerns about how long the physical home button will last and if it will last. I actually was going to get a GS3 until the AHD came out but now.. I just don't know.

Thats a good point. We all know Moto has been very annoying with the BL being locked and taking forever with updates sometimes never, but both previous Atrix devices were capable of porting over ICS not officially though. So i believe that if we don't"officially" get JB down the line if we achieve root access and a possible BL unlock we will also get a port of some sort!
Though it is still too early to say at this time the AHD isn't a month old yet. but if your concern for choosing a device is mainly on official updates this being JB, then the GS3 is the way to go.
Also the color of choice as well. I did mention however in another thread that each color of the GS3 had defects with the back covers. I had the white one and even though i skin cased it from ghost armor from day 1 it still managed to have a horrible crack. The blue GS3 had paint smudges with the back cover, so as far as the red I'm not sure, but what i can say is for build quality i will vouch for the AHD. It feels premium in hand not to mention the kevlar just looks so good IMO very study phone. And to me personally the AHD felt lighter in hand.
I Hope that was of some help, but honestly whichever device you choose its a winner, both phones are in the top right now and you cant go wrong with either device! Good luck!

With the level of security Moto has used this time around, making even rooting the thing a royal pain in the ****, I certainly wouldn't hold my breath waiting on a bl unlock....The Atrix 2 wasn't even this secure and it's bl still remains locked to this day. I have heard of GS3's cracking, but that's not something inherent to the color of the phone. Until it becomes a widespread issue I have to believe it's simply due to user error....many of us for years have been simply ripping our battery covers off like we always do cause the materials we're used to could handle it and they were so thick it was a non-issue. The plastic used on the GS3 battery cover is very thin so it makes sense that during removal the cover can be bent a little too far causing the cracks to happen. The fact of the matter is we have no idea what the users did or didn't do to cause the physical damage. Just like the one guy who claimed his phone spontaneously combusted while charging it in his car....and the issues with the blue battery covers was for the international versions of the phone, I haven't heard of any finish issues with the blue covers on any domestic GS3's.
The bootloaders WILL be unlocked, expect the tool to land somewhere between October & December. I'm hoping to see root before the tool, as I've never been a big fan of voiding warranty officially VIA the manufacturer...
My tab's Flyer than yours (unless this is posted in a Flyer thread... Then it's just as Flyer...)

Though Moto did say future devices will begin receiving Webkits for BL unlocks maybe they'll have a change of heart with our device considering its the first device released when moto and google got together possibly? Fingers crossed haha

You have me swetting here deciding myself.. I purchased the HD then ended up taking it back...Comcerned it would never get root and battery life.. I ended up getting a Nitro than after having CWM foul, I bricked the phone (waiting on a refurb tomorrow). Good news is my nephew needs a phone I keep thinking I should give him the Nitro and order the HD in white. The black was very boring yet the white looks nice.
I also own a HOX and Nexus both are great phones all have their drawbacks.
Nexus: Amoled , mever really noticed till playing with a HOX for awhile also NO LTE other than that smooth phone.
HOX just not sure I really like it though it does seem large and has some other minor draws I just don't really like.
I know just friggin spoiled yet hey..LOL

That's awesome man you got plenty of phones to choose from haha! Reminds me of myself though i airways switch between phones!
Personally while i did have the gs3 in white i also wanted the AHD in white although radio shack did not carry that color in store, but i would really love the white color, it would make me love the phone even way more!
Though how did you like the phone regardless of color while you owned it? If you do decide to go back and pick this bad boy up regardless of no root atm it's a solid device!

I to switched from the gs3. I loved the phone, but just like my previous Samsung device i didn't get a signal in my living room. So far with the ahd i get 2-3 bars in my living room.
With that being said, i do feel like i downgraded. However the main reason to have a phone is to be able to use it as a phone, right? Lol

I just got this phone yesterday and to be honest it's a big improvement over the galaxy nexus. Even without jelly bean this phone is smoother and faster.
I will post my battery life later today. I think my phone is going to last 4 days with normal usage. I do use it but not a 8 hour a day type usage..LOL

Just bought a brand new one in the box for 300 (dark grey). The build quality is much better than I expected. I have seen RAZR's before and was expecting almost exactly the same thing. This feels a looks much better. Screen is awesome as well.
I am currently rooting as I type this and then will begin to try and get CWM on the phone. After that I am going to try and build CM10 from source and get it to work on the phone. The last part will probably never happen as I am not a developer. I must try though right?
I just sold my Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy S3, and One X last night. They were all great phones but had their flaws. The Nexus was just becoming too slow to compete with the newer processors. It would make web browsing painful in comparison. The S3 felt like it was made by Play Skool and scratched anytime so much as paper brushed against it. The little silver trim ring was chipping too. Terrible. I also hated the fact that they went with hardware buttons. The One X was great until the matte finish started to wear off after 2 weeks. It started to become shiny and looked old very fast. Also dev support for that phone sucked because HTC kept pushing through updates to eliminate root. Was rooted with cm10 on all of them.
Hopefully this phone does the trick.

Good luck to you. I love this phone, but hate that I can't run ROMs on it. It has made me consider buying a new phone
But so far this phone is holding up well so I'd assume just keep it and wait and hope and dream and ponder and wait and cry waiting for someone to make a break through
Still, nothing will happen till the bootloader is locked.... right?
No there should be ways to work around it. Bootloader being unlocked would be awesome and a gift from god. Dont count on it though

All we need to do now is patiently waiting. Some devs will hit us soon.

My s3 with cm10 spanks this thing. But I had a kernel and there wasn't a single bloat item on the phone thanks to cm10. Either way this atrix is very very smooth and fast. I would not go back to a terrible build quality s3. The only other phone that beats this in my opinion is the RAZR HD. I'm working on getting one from Canada.

I had the one X. The matte finish wore off after a month and when you lay it on a flat surface the speaker is completely covered and not a sound can escape. Also the camera bezel is plastic and not metal as it looks. Scratches very easily. And no memory card. What was I thinking?
I've had the S3. The back sracthed instantly and the silver bezel was chipping. God it was terrible.
The Optimus G has capacitive buttons which I can't stand. Also with the way the speaker is, it has the same problem as the one X, so no sound can be heard when it's laying flat. What a design flaw!
Nexus 4 has the SAME sound problem AND doesn't have expandable memory.
Note 2 is just a giant s3.
In my opinion there are only 2 gsm phones in the world right now and they are: the one I'm holding to type this. And the RAZR HD. In y opinion the RAZR HD Maxx can not be touched with a 10 foot pole at the moment.
Unibody aluminum frame
32gb storage
Kevlar back
Amoled screen
No capacitive buttons
Expandable memory
3300mah battery!

Yeah...razr hd looks and feels great...was in the store yesterday...but the display is far far away from the sharpness of the ahd?!
Colors and esp. white looks lot better on the ahd screen too..
There seems to be a lot of people talking about issues with the Nexus 4 and ways to fix them, etc. While that's completely necessary and appropriate, wouldn't it be nice to just have a thread where we talk about how much we like our brand new device? I think so and hopefully the mods will too. Anyway, in the spirit of this thread I'd like to begin with how much I'm liking my Nexus 4:
Things I like:
Screen - The screen is really nice. Even though the screen on my One X had much warmer colors, I'm not at all opposed to the more natural colors of the Nexus 4 (yes, I do believe that the SLCD screens saturate colors, though it's much better and acceptable than the saturation of AMOLED screens).
Call Quality - Call quality is better and louder than that of my One X or Galaxy S II. Though there is a little bit of noise, it's not at all distracting.
Camera - The camera, while not the best on the market, produces quality images. My One X has trouble producing decent pictures using an AOSP ROM, so it's a definite upgrade in this department. Pictures on the Nexus 4 are good to great quality probably 80% of the time.
Things I love:
External Speaker - The external speaker is absolutely wonderful. My first Android device was a Motorola Atrix and, while not the greatest phone I've ever had, I've yet to have a device that beats the loudness of its external speaker. Well, the Nexus 4 is the closest I have found. I was able to still clearly make out the lyrics to songs when I was in a room about thirty feet and two open doors away from the room where my Nexus 4 was sitting. Plus, it sounds very clear even at the loudest volumes. I definitely have no complaints in this area.
Build Quality - The build quality is fantastic. Everyone can rave about the quality of HTC's phones which I do believe are well made, but this device simply feels premium. One thing I admit defeat to with Androids vs iPhones is that iPhones (4/4S, and 5) easily beat any Android device in build quality. This can be argued with HTC devices and possibly a few Motorolas, but I'm entirely convinced that the Nexus 4 has blown the iPhone 4/4S and 5 out of the water. What really has surprised me is how solid the glass is. There is no give like there was on my HTC One X, Galaxy S II, or Atrix. The weight feels very nice in the hand, the metal strip on the side is a nice additional aesthetic, the buttons being the same color as the metal strip is a nice touch, and I really like the feel of the rubber material on the side. Oh, and that wonderful design on the back really grabs attention. Of course, it's very depressing that I have to have a case over it at all times due to the glass back, but I'm confident that a nice bumper and a back screen protector (if that's what it's called) will work wonders.
Android 4.2 - Pure Android is a big reason to buy a Nexus device and the Nexus 4 doesn't disappoint because, well, it's a Nexus device. Android 4.2 is really great. Though it's not a huge improvement over Android 4.1, it doesn't really need to be because 4.1 isn't that old and it's sort of fine with me to just enjoy the awesomeness of Jelly Bean until next summer when we'll hopefully get a glimpse of Key Lime Pie. But it's not like Google to not give use new features with a new Nexus device, and they definitely didn't skimp out. The camera software is pretty great and very much needed. It's just better all around and much more intuitive than in previous versions. I'm also loving the crop options Google has given us and the filters are a nice touch that I've used a few times already (I'm getting into Instagram, apparently).Though PhotoSphere is gimmicky, it's fun as hell and everyone who I've shown the final product to has said something along the lines of "You did that with your phone?" One of the biggest small things I've noticed is the animation when switching between apps. It's ridiculously smooth. I can't remember if this was in a previous version, but I never noticed it on my Nexus 7, so I don't think it was. I don't want to go too in depth here, but all of the Android 4.2 features such as home screen widgets, Daydream mode, and many others, while not being detrimental, are certainly welcome.
So, there you go. I just think that a place where we can all appreciate our Nexus 4 is a great idea, so I made one . No one needs to go as in depth as I did, but if you'd like to, feel free.
We were married on the 29th, but I haven't bought the ring yet.

This phone is just so amazing. I knew that HTC's build quality was good (Sense sucks), but this had even better build quality and SMOOTH STOCK ANDROID!!!!
Zero complaints with mine. Coming from a Note II and a S III...still think it's my best device yet. I've had it 10 days already.

The wife and I have both been enjoying ours for two full weeks now and not looking back. We jumped ship from sprint and are saving nearly 100 bucks a month and getting much faster data speeds on T-Mobile prepaid. This is an awesome android experience device without any bloatware and the Dev support that is around in such a short time is simply amazing
Build quality is better than gs3 as far as I'm concerned and I really liked mine, I just couldn't justify paying so much a month anymore for 3g. Win win all around for us!

I love how smooth the screen is. It feels like there's a layer of butter between the screen and my finger, but when I go to clean it, there's no butter on it!
Comparing to my previous nexus one, this phone is much much much better. All I can say is awesome! From one core to quad core, 512MB ram to 2GB, a much bigger screen. What else can I complain? Moreover, I spent almost 600 on my nexus one but now only 400 on nexus 4! Overall, I love this phone for sure!

Zero complaints. Phone is the best they've done so far. I like every aspect of it.
Awesome device! No issues so far! It's a big hit with the AVN girls!!
Easily the best phone I've had. Its ridiculously smooth UI is great, and the screen is lush.
Also, on got this out my pocket in the pub last night and people were like "OMG is that a Nexus 4?!" You've got to love that effect...!

This, ladies and gentlemen, is what this thread is all about.
Not us giving the Nexus 4 compliments, but us telling stories how the Nexus 4 has fetched us compliments :good:
As for me the only thing I had happen was while I was unboxing my phone, I went to test the camera outside. I leave the box there. When I get back my roomy is pacing around the house saying "WHO GOT THE NEXUS?! LET ME SEEEE IT!" lol.
Agree with all the above. This is my 7th Android device and easily the best I've ever used. No issues whatsoever. Forgot this was an LG device. I swore never to buy another product from them after the G2X and here I am...
As far as compliments go, what I've been hearing is "Gorgeous/sexy device!", "The back is so cool" and last but not least, "I'm still trying to figure out how the hell you got one when they sold out so quickly" lol

This is absolutely my favorite phone I've ever owned hands down. Its so fast and that's what I wanted the multitasking blows any smartphone I've ever played with away. I can't wait till everyone has there phone cause I think we are gonna have one hell of a community here.

Yeah I am more than happy with mine. Makes the nexus 7 that I am posting this on feel seriously sluggish and coming from an i9100 which was by no means struggling I cannot believe how slick this thing is. I have got the ear piece buzzing problem but it is so quiet I wouldn't call it an issue.

Love my Nexus 4, I've only 'liked' other phones as they've always had a weak spot that has niggled me.
This beast however doesn't have anything that I don't like, and thus I love it.
Also, it's already a whore. I was the only person in the office of geeks (I work for a software development company) that managed to get one due to the wonky launch. Suffice to say it's been passed around and for all I know jizzed on many times! lol
I was out with some friends the other night and I whipped it out and one of the lasses with us commented 'That's a sexy phone, looks like someone gets paid too much!' the same person also said 'It feels so nice to hold' ... 'insert smart remake here'

I was really set on the One, but started reading about all the issues people were having with the screens and gaps and speaker noise. I started reading up on the S4 and thought maybe a change would be nice, since I've been with HTC since the Hero days. I would like to hear some personal experiences and feedback. I got some hands on with the One and it was smooth as can be, but haven't had a chance to play with the s4 yet. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I am a hardcore perfectionist and had VERY high expectations for the One.
I will tell you that i have an almost-noticeable-with-the-bare-eye cluster of about 4 stuck pixels (at 450+ dpi you really have to look hard to see it), a 1mm gap in the middle of my zero-gap-construction device, and a home button that isn't as sensitive as it should be (which I know will be getting fixed in the next OTA).
Even being a hardcore perfectionist and demanding a LOT from this phone, I LOVE IT AND WOULD NOT TRADE IT FOR ANY OTHER PHONE. It is without a doubt the most amazing piece of technology I've ever owned.
If you've been with HTC for awhile, now is not the time to bail out. This is the best phone they've made by a mile. Sense 5 is sick and the look and build quality is iPhone level. If you've held a GSIII, you know how the GSIV is going to feel. Not in same league imo.
Sent from my HTCONE using xda app-developers app
I'm also trying to decide between the s4 and one. I listen to music a lot so the one def wins on that respect.
The one thing holding me back from getting the HTC one is that the aluminum back I'm guessing will be much more susceptible to scratches. I like to run my phones caseless, so just wondering if any current one owners could comment on how their phone is holding up so far? I went to sprint and the display model already had a chip on the back so had me worried.
Thanks in advance for your input.

Honestly, its all about personal preference. The One and the GS4 really are two totally different devices, the one really is a more polished device in my opinion. As I sit here and type this I have an HTC One and a GS4 sitting right next to me and after using the One for over a week then switching to the GS4 there is a big difference in performance. Now the truth is that out of the box the GS4 basically has more features than any other phone on the market but at the expense of performance. To me the One simply does everything faster, whether opening and closing apps, switching between apps, accessing the camera....etc..... the one simply does it with virtually no lag where as the GS4 stutters ever so slightly. I have gone as far as turning off every feature I could and even though that did help, its still no where near as responsive as the one and because of that I will stick with the One. Sorry but touchwiz for whatever reason is a bloated mess of a UI filled with features that are impractical which also hinders the performance of the device. I really wanted a 5" device and even with the plastic build it still a pleasant device to look at and hold but the performance simply falls short. Also, I know I can root the device but in the age of quad core devices with at least 2 gigs of ram, rooting shouldn't be the only way to increase performance.

I wouldn't say "top notch", but saying they are better than any other pack-in headphone would still be a disservice to these.

I love my One. I was set on getting the S4 at first when the argument seemed to be aluminum vs plastic, because the S4 seemed more powerful, but the One really is more than just an amazing looking device. I love the camera, I don't understand why people feel they need to zoom in on pictures, because if they don't, 4 MP is actually perfectly fine since it's a higher resolution than 1080. Pictures with the One are amazing no matter what the situation, which is very rare with cell phone cameras, I found myself being excited about having a cell phone camera for the first time since my very first flip phone. I tell people comparing the One and the S4's cameras is comparing quality to size, and I always prefer quality. Besides that the screen is amazing, but you probly won't be able to tell too much difference with the pixel density since they're both so dense. The speakers are also amazing, I've thought sound was coming from my computer speakers a few times that was actually coming from the phone. The call quality is great too, I can hear people much clearer that I used to have problems talking with on my evo 3d. It doesn't come with much bloatware and I haven't had any bit of lag yet, even with lots of apps running at once and playing graphics intensive games. I have also been very impressed with the battery life, I've used it constantly since I bought it and have not had it go under 10% before the end of the day, so I can actually play games on my phone now without worrying about the next time I need to plug it in.
My only gripe with the phone is the capacitive buttons, they only work when you press on the white part, so it's much less surface area than I'm used to, but it's not such a big deal, just a small annoyance to get used to. Sense isn't an annoyance on this phone, and any annoyances like blinkfeed or no quick settings in the notification pulldown can be easily solved.
They're both great phones, but when I did my own comparison of the two, I thought the S4s new features were more software gimmicks than improvements to me. The One has software gimmicks like Zoes and blinkfeed, but it has quite a few hardware improvements that were powerful enough to impress me.
Reading Anandtech's review of topped me over! They also have part 1 of the S4 review.
http://www.anandtech.com/show/6747/htc-one-review
Convince you the one is superior? What do we work for htc? Read the reviews ffs. Brian Klug from Anandtech wrote 17 pages about this phone. You may want to start there.
Edit: can this thread be locked? He has this in both forums. Stop cluttering up the forums.

I've been researching this phone a whole lot because I plan on buying this next month sometime, but a few things are unclear:
What is this phone like? A lot of people suffer from dead pixels, poor build quality, etc.
It also seems HTC is in the verge of bankruptcy. They're not doing too well sales wise and top executives are leaving.
It kinda makes me a bit nervous.

Heh, HTC has had hit in sales. Bad one at that but they are not even close to bankruptcy. Not even close. It will few years for that even if current things continue. They still have market cap of around 250 billion $. What is happening is not ideal. In fact it is bad, but it is not the end game yet.
Built quality issues were more widespread in early units. The smaller issues like small gaps between the top and bottom speaker grill and body still persist but those are really minor issues. The other issues have reduced in frequency (at least frequency of it being reported here at XDA ).
You can always return the phone if it is not up to your standards. It should not happen on flagship, but these days almost all flagships are hit by such issues as initially most are rushed products.
There are plenty of threads here about how the phone it. It is mixed bag for me, but it is a beautifully built phone. Has its quirks with unconventional button layout, unconventional Sense 5 etc. But that is personal choice in the end. If you can go play with the demo piece for a while at store near you before making purchase. But overall it is good phone. The only other phone that really competes with it is S4. I wont consider any other phone.
The One is a rather simple friend.

Both the HTC One Developer Edition and the Samsung Galaxy S4 (GS4) are my first Android phones. I returned the GS4 because 9gb of application storage was not acceptable. I have, literally, installed every available custom ROM because I really do not like Sense 5. I enjoy Blinkfeed, but IMHO it should be a scrollable widget instead of the default homescreen. Yes the One's bootloader can be/is unlocked, but none of the available ROM are particularly functional or impressive. If you buy the One, you'll likely choose an improved stock ROM rather than a completely custom ROM in order to maximize the camera functionality. I really dislike the camera app. I also disliked the GS4 camera app. In fact, I haven't found an Android camera app as functional as the 3rd party camera app I had on my iPhone.
My build quality seems fine. I am not finicky. My device IS NOT gapless, but I really don't care. My screen don't seem to have any dead pixels. If it did, with a 480 pixel density, I could never see something so small.
All in all, the One is a solid phone. I definitely wouldn't buy it for market price again. I'm not too sure about HTC solvency, but the One seems to have a strong development community, so the phone will unlikely ever be irrelevant.
buy it.
you only hear from the vocal minority on here regarding quality control issues, and it seems that people here are looking for problems to complain about. every htc one owner i've physically spoken to has had nothing but great things to stay about it
Martin... Its a great phone. Sense 5 is a step closer to stock android (u so love) than TW.
It feels great in the hand, premium build quality (Google for earlier build flaws), it's fast, smooth and everything the S3 is not Imo..... And u know how I loved my s3
Not as much rom/kernel options as the S3/S4 but similar issues apply...
HTC, just like samsung, seem to hold back some sources, even after release. So... Devs have to reverse engineer.
But... Good thing is... Like the i9505, This has the qualcomm s600 and not the exynos so better options for the future.
I wouldn't read too much into the whole htc "staff shuffle" issue just yet. It may affect future devices, but not the One.
Fact is, all the best AOSP, CM, aokp devs have this phone and are working on it right now. CM runs good, Roman has an aokp rom, just in case u don't like Sense 5 . so I suppose we'll always have the stock edition on a way.
My honest opinion is... If ur looking for a good phone that looks good, feels good and sound good, and different to TW... but u can still flash decent/different stuff on for 12 months then buy it...
If you need to have this phone for longer then buy a nexus... Cause going on past history, Samsung will have a new phone next summer, and htc could drop this phone completely in 9 months in favour of their next flagship.

Well,
IMHO this is a very good phone. I agree built quality issues are there because it is not priced as the S4 is, but I've had two HTC Ones and none of them were unacceptable. You see a lot of forums/posts about it because the odd one out is always visible. It is a very good phone.... Just the one Android ecosystem wanted. It is a lifestyle thing to upgrade, I guess.
The Camera is awesome no matter what people say.

HTC still never reported a loss but their profits have been going down but it takes more than a few bad quarter for a company to go down. And it' s normal especially for companies traded on a exchange to switch management if the management doesn' t meet its targets. HTC will be here in next year...
