Hello!
I've bought Xperia T a week ago and I really wana get it rooted but I'm worried about warranty. I know it can void it and I talked to my sales man and he told me it will void if they figure out.
Now what I want to know is, if my phone dies in way I can reinstall original Firmware again, will service guys see my rooting & firmware change ?
I'm sorry if this sounds noob/stupid to you, but before I had Huawei Ideos X5 where I didn't give a crap about warranty, but now I do I purchased phone without Operator and the price hurts!
Thanks in advance.
As Far As I know Rooting doesn't void warranty. But yes Warranty may void if you unlock the bootlader.

My friend gave me an unlocked phone with a semi-working touchscreen, a non-working microphone and a wobbly USB port that I was thinking of sending in for warranty.
Unfortunately, as stated before it is unlocked. I looked at both nv_data.bin and /dev/block/bml3 but neither of these seem to hold a Network Control Key, just FFFFFFF.
How can I lock it so I can send it in for warranty?
Can I just change the apparent NCK to some arbitrary hex combination?
Worst comes to worst, I could just send it in the way it is and hope for the best..
i dont think it would make a difference if you sent the phone for repair unlocked.
correct me if im wrong but i dont think unlocking the network lock voids warranty, i think its more down the lines of rooting, customs roms, taking the phone apart ect...
my phone came brand spanking new from vodafone unlocked, but with vodafone bloatware on it
I would like to believe that but:
http://www.wpcentral.com/samsung-carrier-unlock-your-windows-phone-void-your-warranty
However, whether they would notice or not is an entirely different story.
Thats a different device all together tho... How would they know it came 'carrier locked'
like i said mine came direct from vodafone 'unlocked' so if i sent mine for repair they couldnt say no to me.
and that link isnt direct from samsung, for all we know it could be a rumour, i honestly dont think it voids and im sure im not the only one who thinks that.
Like said earlier, Rooting, Customs ROMs ect...... that does void warranty.
Samsung DONT lock phones. Its the providers that lock them to keep you on their network.
A carrier can unlock your phone if and when they want so its not a warranty issue .

Hmm okay, maybe I'll believe you guys . I'll send it out today. We'll continue the discussion if it comes back saying that my warranty is now void lol - let's hope for the best.
Any warranty reject would be due to non standard firmware or non network supplied firmware .
My phone came unlocked from the network as many do .

I flashed the complete UGL2 with Odin before sending it.
It's in the mail now. Hopefully I didn't forget to do anything..
hi ;D
I would like to know if you solved your problem or not
thanks

Did they find out your phone was unlocked???
Hey guys
My girlfriend bought a phone from a local carrier to use on a different local carrier, and when they found out, they gave her a bunch of scary talk about how unlocking voids the warranty and it'll come up and blah blah.
So :
1) Can an optimus 2x once unlocked be re-locked?
2) Anyone have any first hand experience with getting warranty service done on an unlocked phone without an active account at Wind Mobile?
Thanks
If i'm not totaly mistaken, You can flash an original LG rom with NVflash and that should do it
Anyone correct me if i'm wrong
You can't re-lock it, but it will not void the warranty.

Please be very careful whenever anyone in this forum tells you to flash an LG ROM.
The Wind Mobile "Optimus 2x" is the P999. You should be asking questions in the inappropriately named "T-Mobile G2x" forum.
All of the ROMs and guides in this forum are for the P990.
Hey thanks cmstlist
that would have been a bad mistake.

I'm with you, but I know of a person that had call LG Spain and they told him that the warranty is lost when you unlock the phone if the code was not given by the company who locks the phone.
Sorry for my english!!
Warranty or not, they can refuse to repair your phone when you broke the agreement..
So except Italy modding your terminal still avoids the warranty?

I've just called a german general customer service.
You can mod your phone, since Android is open source, you may however not remove a sim-lock. Your warranty is void if you flash your phone to unlock it for sim cards for other networks.
So it seems like everything is fine as long as you flash it back to the original firmware, of course this only applies to stock-simlock free phones.
This is only for germany, and i dont know if its completely true, but it sounds good
Sounds like a load of crap to me, you don't flash to unlock, you have to get a code generated.
All statements "this and that voids warranty" are crap, since when you flash stock rom using SmartFlash, the phone is in factory state - they can't find out what you have been doing with it (not in any easy way).
But I don't know about sim unlocks, whether they are purely ROM thing or some deeper mod of the phone.. can't guarantee you that. Also, when you give the phone to somebody, you never know what he did with it.

You dont quite get it.
Everything is fine as long as you dont try to unlock the phone for other sim cards

I get it just fine. There is no way something done in the correct manner is going to void the warranty. LG's service dept won't know if an unlock code comes from a carrier or eBay, they will be identical.
The problem is the carrier states it will void the warranty if they dont issue the unlock code...
Well, if you bring it in for repairs to your carrier (who I understand you bougt it from), they can refuse to help you if you broke your agreement with them. If after a year, when you can get the unlock code for free, there is no reason why they shouldn't help you.
If you bring it to LG, and keep your carrier out of it, there is no reason why they shouldn't help you..

Exactly. You might aswell just flash the original firmware and everything will be fine.
Hey guys, So i bought a Moto x from rogers in Canada 2 weeks ago. I then proceeded to unlock the phone to be able to use it with bell. I got the code from cell unlocker. 4 days ago i noticed specs of dust under the camera glass and on the camera lens, and sometimes the dust will make a little black spot on the pictures i take. Today i contacted motorola and they said i need to send my phone in for repair, but if i send it in for repair they warned me that my phone will be reflashed to rogers software and my phone will not be unlocked anymore. Will i be able to unlock the phone again? with the same code? or will i be out of luck and have a rogers only phone? is this unlocking thing a permanent thing?
if they give you back your phone with the same IMEI number the unlock code should work again.
If they give you a different phone, whether new or refurbished, you will need to purchase a new unlock code. This is most likely to happen.

Hey there,
I sorry if my question sounds a bit stupid, but the unlocking you were talking about is the bootloader unlock? Dont you loose warranty after unlocking your bootloader?
I want to mess with my moto x, but if i unlock my bootloader from motorola´s site, i loose my warranty. If i root my phone, i also loose warranty, but what if i root, install roms, and then got back to stock without messing with my bootloader, can i still send my phone to warranty i any problems arise?
thanks in advanced...
cheers
Will unlocking Bootloader void my warranty ? If yes will i have my warranty back after relocking it ?
Or requesting the code from Huawei void warranty ? Thanks
As far is I know, yes. And it's irreversible.
So the warranty will be void for ever for software and hardware??? this thing are silly.
If You read agreement when requesting unlock code then it is sad there that Huawei allows unlocking bootloader, but warranty wont cover any damages made by manual flashing, so hardware issues still will be under warranty. There are some country and carriers that will void it anyway compleately, so ask Your carrier if You bought it on contract.

Its not really that silly because you could quite easily brick your phone or do permanent hardware damage with an unlocked bootloader. I wouldn't recommend it having a bricked p10 at the moment. If your doing it to root the phone, don't rooting is a ***** with the p10 and really not worth it.
Look below:
Actually I've had another look, There isnt anything in the locking agreement that suggests the warranty will be void. I guess vendors might not cover it for warranty but the huawei agreement says if its outside of warranty it can be fixed for normal repair rates. If anyone can actually source somewhere that it does void the warranty I'd like to see that. Maybe its just assumed that it voids warranty.

yeah I ready my warranty card for my p10 and it says basically if you break the phone by doing something with bootloader unlocked that the warranty wont cover it but they will still do a repair at the non warranty prices.
hi guys just wondering is it ok to unlock bootloader on clt-l09 p20 pro. its a uk vodafone model. I have unlock code. many thanks.
sorry folks just bumping this as i have looked for an answer but cant find one.
If you got valid warranty then you should not. Unlocking the bootloader during valid warranty will make warranty become invalid after. So wait for warranty expire first before doing it.
Without warranty means you can no longer get phone fixed in warranty if an hardware problem appears under the valid warranty.
So this is why i suggest you to wait for the 1-2 years warranty has expired and then you can unlock the bootloader.
im not bothered about voiding the warranty. i just want to know if its ok to do

it is ok, but again if you device get's a defect after unlocking your bootloader, then repair will cost you. So that's why i would not recommend unlocking the bootloader during valid warranty.
Since phone might be fine now, but later after you unlocked bootloader and something like phone camera begun to get spots or display starts to act weird and so on. Then repair center will just request money for your repair, because bootloader is unlocked and warranty is voided.
So my suggestion is to wait for warranty to expire, then you can unlock bootloader and play around. In main time you can request for a unlock code.
