[Q] Samsung Galaxy Mini 2 (GT-S6500d) CM10.1 Custom Kernel - Samsung Galaxy Mini

Hello!
I've been having a lot of trouble flashing recovery, rooting and installing custom rom for my Mini 2. After a lot of researching and trying I have successfully rooted and after installed Cyanogenmod 10.1 and now I got the JellyBean 4.2.2. And now I would like to find out whether or not I should upgrade/change the kernel. Can anyone tell me please if there is another kernel for CM10.1 and for my device specifically, and will it make my phone more faster or not. I have tried to install Semaphor (I don't think this is compatible with my device), Devil (Same here) and Franco (Which is same) for all three of them I have got the status 7 error. I have also tried to install some kind of kernel update for my device which completely messed up everything (different colored display, some glitchy stuff and random reboot every 0.5 seconds ), so I had to install the stock rom (because the cm didn't work) and then the cm.10.1 again (now I'm good). Also to let you know my current kernel version is 2.6.38.6-1214151 (that's what says settings -> about phone -> kernel version). If there is nothing better then don't worry, my phone at the moment runs smoothly anyways!!!
Thanks in advance.....

Please...
Anyone???

I had that error on cwm 6.xxx
Then i flashed cwm 5.0.2.8 and there was no error, it worked
Just wipe everything and go to mounts and storage->format /system and after that mount /system
Make sure you have backup of your working rom. If your device wont boot after flashing (if its just booting in recovery, flash stock rom
(get into downlad mode voldown+home+power, hold power button until samsung logo.)
If thats what you have problem with...

No, don't install something that won't work for your phone. Kernel are main controllers in your phone. You change the kernel, you change how your phone works. If you lucky, you get your phone booting, but with glitch everywhere. If you aren't lucky your phone will dead, no matter if you install a custom ROM, or a fresh stock ROM.

I appreciate the reply, so as far as I understand, Kernel is completely separated from the ROM. So if I get any error or problem with the Kernel, it's going to be hard to fix, because re-flashing the ROM will not change anything. If what you said is right then I will not risk it, because my phone has got already CM10.1 installed and is working nice and smoothly, however I got another question. I'm not sure what Kernel version I had previously but when I installed CM I think it changed the Kernel, because the name of it is not the same as I've seen when I had stock ROM (It says 2.6.38.6-1214151 [email protected]#1 Sat Mar 23 11:49:35 EET 2013). I am really happy with what I've got at the moment so I will not change it, because if my phone ends up bricking, or anything else, I can't afford to buy another one for now (sometime later yeah )
Anyways thanks for your help!!

[Q] Can't root or switch ROM

Hello!
Some time ago I switched ROM from stock to Cyanogenmod 7. It worked perfect, but wanted to try MIUI as well. When I did that, and installed the kernel that said was needed for the ROM, something went wrong during the install of MIUI. It said there was a problem with directories on my SD-card if I recall correct. I tried everything to make it work, but it didn't. It didn't even work to install the stock kernel and install Cyanogenmod 7 again - same errors.
Nothing worked, so I found the stock ROM, kernel and everything to get my phone to work again. I installed it with either Odin, and it worked.
The problem is still there though, I can't root or install ROMs on my phone, and I can't for the world understand what the problem might be. I have formatted the SD card several times and tried clean installs, but I still get the errors.
Anyone know what I can do to get it to work?
Thanks,
Doedskvad
Can you get into download mode? If so, flash a rooted kernel.
Boom. Solution.
And you have tried to install root via CF - Root and Odin ? Without RE Partition and without a PIT file etc ?

Yes! Download mode works. I will try that! If it's not too much to ask, do you have any tips for rooted kernels that will work with Cyanogenmod 7?

I don't really remember how I got the phone rooted, but if I recall, I installed a kernel which had CWM in it, and installed Cyanogenmod 7 from there. I have not done a re-partition; no pit file has been used.

All of the CM7 kernels are rooted, including stock. If you're referring to a kernel for stock firmware in order to get CM7 on your device, then—off the top of my head—I don't really know any. I've been on CM too long. But I'm guessing most if not all of the custom kernels are rooted, as that just makes sense.
If you flash stock, simply flash a kernel that includes root and CWM. From there, you're good to go. You can do anything and everything you want.

[Q] Bootloop when trying to flash ICS rom.

So first i'll explain whats the problem.
I went from Slim ICS to stock android 2.3.5 XXJVT. After that I flashed the rooted kernel via Odin, including CWM.
So I got to the recovery and wiped everything and flashed the a cm9 nightly, this was in the instructions SlimICS If coming from stock GB. While installing it stopped after a few seconds and rebooted to recovery where a few lines came up amd rebooted again, alot of red letters flashed between the reboots and it kept rebooting.
I have tried other roms with a similar result:
-After install, comes to kernel loading screen reboots straight into recovery.
-Tried infinitum, succesfully installed actually started OS but got an error acreen in android itself, saying something about encryption or something (forgot it).
I know this is a long story but i've been trying to flash ics again for a lot of hours with a lot of fixes but nothing succesfull.
I hope you guys know more then me. If you need more info please ask, im pretty issed of by phone right now.
Thanks
On I9000
Pull out the battery.put back in.go to recovery and flash again.reboot.
It's does this because u need to be on an ics kernel for it to flash the rom properly.it's perfectly normal.don't worry
It only happens when upgrading the os or flashing cm9 the FIRST time

Help, phone only booting to recovery

Hi I was running Helly Bean and I was experiencing some lag that i couldnt fix so i decided it was time to start fresh (phone was getting to be a mess anyways) so i formatted my phone and one-click to a stock rom. (rogers i896 2.3.3 with bootloader). I used heimdell to flash kernel with recovery, then flashed devil kernel, reboot recovery, then flashed helly bean as per thread instruction and my phone kept booting into recovery only. So i tried to start over 2 more times with the same results, I even tried to flash CM9 stable release and it yielded the same results.
Can anyone shed some light as to what i messed up? My only option now is to use stock app since i cant seem to get anything else to work...(pleas dont make me go back to touchwiz)
Any help is appreciated,
Thanks.
PS phone works fine on stock rom
This happened to me once... I think it has to do with repartitioning and Devil kernel. If you flash devil first, it seems that something is telling the CM installer that the partitions are all good to go, even though it is clearly not the case. So use heimdall to flash the first kernel, and go straight to the ROM install, making sure to flash the ROM a second time after it reboots into the new recovery.

Thanks, works first time!!! Looks like im going to have IMEI problems but thats another battle lol
odin to stock 2.3.6, charge to 100%, then go to recovery, 4w, 2f, then install helly bean.
just went thru this last week.... accidentally flashed incorrect ROM to Captivate and phone started acting wiered.
Then came to know i have the wrong bootloaders and kernel. Just installed GB bootloaders and phone started booting to recovery.
then tried to flash ics rom and soft bricked my phone.
Used the "hold both volume buttons and plugin the USB cable to computer" to get into download. then ODIN to stock GB. then used KKroot and then flashed Slim ICS. Now the phone works great.

[Q] Went back to stock, now having trouble getting out

Dear friends,
Little background. I was on CM10 stable, but decided to I update to CM10.1 M1, After the update, had no market, however, so I tried to downgrade to CM10 stable and it bricked. So .. back to stock it is! Now I am having trouble getting out of stock. I am not new to flashing, but I never had this kind of a persistent problem.
The short summary of what I get no matter what I try is: Every kernel that is not the stock Eclair kernel has boot-animation messed up (random lines of color on screen), and I cannot enter recovery - I sometimes can boot sometimes cannot.
Steps I have taken
I went back to stock Eclair rom + non-root kernel (LINK).
I rooted (LINK)
But when I tried to update kernel to allow CWM, it bricked my phone. So back to stock, again!
I tried this a few times. Now, the latest attempt, I tried the stock 2.3.5 rom + rooted, CWM kernel (LINK... I get the phone running, but I cannot get into recovery, and no utility that has "reboot to recovery" has managed to get me into recovery.
The plea
All I want is CWM, so I can install what I want. Without it, I am stuck with Odin one-click and Odin flashable packages (Heimdall does not want to work right for me - the drivers are messed up - and trying to fix those brkeas my Odin drivers).
I have no data on the phone at the moment, I can reinstall everything if need be .. but I am out of ideas besides keep trying different roms and kernels until something gives me CWM and I am free again.
I have AT&T GB bootloaders.
thanks for any help, I will try to provide any additional info I can.

Messed up screen = wrong bootloaders. Flash Odin KK4 with bootloaders
From there, follow this link.
Finally, you can get back up on CM10.1 - Btw, you had no market cause you didn't flash their Gapps.
UPDATE .. ugh that took a while:
1) From the master list LINK, wet back to 2.1, I897UCJF6
2) From the same thread installed I897UCKF1 with bootloaders
3) rooted: LINK (I know -not XDA)
4) removed the 3e recovery lock (LINK) - this did not seem to work, but I did do it.
5) installed Speedmod kernel from here LINK - this did not boot, but it did install CWM
6) installed CM10.0 Stable from SD cadr - twice
7) installed gapps
8) just did my first boot to CM10.
This is both a record for myself for later, and for anyone else that may find this useful.

Can't enter recovery, everything else works (sort of)

Hello everyone!
I installed the liquid smooth custom rom yesterday, and it worked fine! I also tried it with the OC kernel. Was a bit of a mistake...
Now, the rom is unstable with the OC kernel on my device, but that's not really my problem.
The issue is that i can't enter recovery! I checked with CWM manager and TWRP and CWM recovery are avaliable, and i can activate them both in the app, but i can't enter the recovery.
Tried hardware buttons(vol up + home + power), rebooting from the app(cwm manager), rebooting from the power menu (i have the reboot into recovery option) but i can't get into the recovery.
It's quite annoying because the phone is unstable and the only option is odin it to stock rom and temp cwm it back to where i was, but that seems a very tough job... (last time it took me over 2 hours... don't know why but it kept failing, did work eventually...) I do have backups, one made with CWM from current rom with no-oc kernel (the stable one).
And i have another custom rom that i backed up with TWRP. Don't know if i can do something with them...
I can do stuff on the phone, so even with the unstable-ness i can do things if needed.
i am trying to get into recovery with terminal, but wifi is ruined so getting the phone working long enough to download it via mobile data, quite difficult... But i keep trying.
edit: tried terminal, no success
Does anyone has an idea how i can get recovery working again?

Tried that, but UKF says device unsupported, don't know why... I have used it before and it worked then.
Any other options?
I got it fixed. But tbh i still don't understand how. I flashed JB stock with odin and when it rebooted, i got automaticly into CWM weirdly enough... Wasn't going to waste my maybe only chance so i flashed the custom rom, wiped everything again, reboot, went again automaticly into CWM. anyway i was third time lucky and it booted as it should. Everything is working now! Anyway thanks for trying to help.
