[Q] Dirt on front sensor? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey @ all.
I just noticed that I have something on my front camera lense. I cleaned the sureface, but it is still there. I'm very sad about it.
I wrote to HTC, lets see what they say to this issue.
What is your opinion, am I able to get it changed? I'm not very experience in exchange of phones. Never get a cause to do it. Am I able to fix this by myself?
Thanks in andvanced.
btw. a zoomed picture....

[Help] Camera Replacement Part?

Hello XDA-ers,
My motorola milestone's camera has stopped working for a long time now. I was wondering if there was a replacement part I can buy to fix it. I tore my milestone apart and i noticed that the ribbon is ripped.
I found some places online but I don't know how reputable they are. Anyone have any suggestions?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again,
lilhugo
It sound like a very strange issue to me - could you please describe more how exactly did you manage to rip that flex cable aparat inside of your phone?

Seeing how he tore his milestone apart, I wouldn't be surprised..
Actually....This was a hand-me down cell phone from my brother. He had dropped it, and it got ran over by a car. Thus this destroyed the glass. The glass was held together by a invisible shield, and the camera stopped working as that point in time. I eventually had the glass fixed by a family friend. When he was taking apart the phone to replace the glass, he checked out the camera because I told him of my issue. It turned out that the camera had a small tear in the flex cable. Even though the lens isn't cracked, i'm sure the camera piece is broken as well.
He fixes phones for a living, so I trust him. Not to mention he ordered the replacement glass for me and put everything back together for me. He just can't seem to find the replacement camera part from his suppliers. =/
So technically I didn't tear the phone apart myself, but I was there to witness it and i know it wasn't my family friend's fault.
It was pretty interesting to watch, since I was too much of a wuss to do it myself.
Thank you for the help,
lilhugo
P.S.
The phone works fine, outside of indents in the keyboard. Even the camera app sort of works, but it just shows a black screen. If I try to do anything in the camera app though then it FCs.

Dust under ffc lens cover

Has anyone else noticed an accumulation of dust and/or other particulates under the front facing camera lens cover? I've had my phone since May, always in a case, and now there is enough stuff between the actual lens and the cover that it is now showing up on pictures.
I know that, out of the two speaker grilles, this is the one that has a screw holding it on, but does anyone know of a way to clean this out? I fear I may have to give it over to Sprint or even HTC to get it cleaned out, because I doubt they would trade it in over this.

Sorry to bump my own thread, but I have a hard time believing no one else has either experienced this or has any idea of what I should do...
Mine has this problem too. If it gets bad enough that it starts affecting picture quality I'm going to go to the Sprint store and see if they do something about it.

I dont think its possible if you dont have proffesional electrionics knowledge so you dont lose your phone.
Also you must find the same glass and maybe you have to find the same camera module because the glass may not be removable.
To answer the OP: Yes I believe it is possible however it will be a hard task to do and with the missing tools an knowledge you could serious damage your device. So if it is damaged go to a local phonestore and ask them to fix it

Moto X Camera Off Center?

Hey all, I just got my Moto X Developer Edition in the mail today, and I've noticed that the camera is not centered in the lens. It's not way off, but it's not where I think it should be.
If you look at the back lens of your phone, is the camera module centered, or is it off a little?
I just want to know if this is a defect or not so I can take the appropriate course of action.
Thank you!

mine looks centered but i didn't measure it. if it is a defect i believe that means the cover and the HW attached to the camera would both have to be off center, so i doubt its a defect.

The glass itself is obviously centered. The camera hardware behind the glass appears off center. If it is, and nobody else is experiencing this phenomenon, then it would be a defect, right?
Hopefully it isn't.

ya mine seems centered to me. didn't realize thats what you were talking about, but yes that seems like it could be a defect. wait for others to comment (assuming they will) because i could just be wrong about the centered stuff.
actually just looked at it a little harder twisting it around and stuff, thought for a second mine was off centered, then realize it was just how i was tilting the phone. It caused a really dark shadow that made it look like it was off center even though I don't think mine is, but now my eyes are just tricking me. so im stopping. just thought id say this in case you are holding it weird like i just did.
Mine appears to be perfectly centered.
Phuck.
The camera module might somehow be moved a little under the glass. It shouldn't affect performance though, unless maybe it doesn't point straight.
Thanks for the input everyone. This baby is going back.
Love the phone, though. The only thing I hate is the ABYSMAL camera. Luckily I don't use phone cameras often.

take a pic before you send it off. and post it. i want to see what you are talking about.
I have a T-Mobile model (XT1053) and the camera is slightly off centered. I don't notice any performance or quality issues.
I have a Moto X with an off center camera as well. I attached an image of what it looks like. No performance issues, just a little ugly.
I have the exact same problem!!!
That sucks let me tell you. It's a new phone I just receive because my previous one had a gyroscope problem!!
So I'm going to put back my sim card back in my old Galaxy S1 and return that Moto X back again!! Unless Motorola doesn't want!
I'll try to post a picture too before returning it... and let you know if I was able to return it.
Thanks
EDIT: Motorola accepted to replace the phone again, at no shipping cost...
I don't know why but the quality is better from my Google+ post: https://plus.google.com/+MathieuLaf...6054695484721010610&oid=118106640376957666598

[Q] S5 camera will not focus. is there a plastic coating on sensor?

Hi,
I mostly love my att S5, rooted and some xposed framework modules running.
But the camera fails to focus most of the time. I'm coming from the S3 which had a macro focus mode that worked well. The S5 doesn't seem to have a macro mode and when I first tried to focus on something close is when I noticed things aren't right. But the problem happens most of the time at other distances to the subject too.
The failure to focus happens with the Google camera as well.
I googled around and I'm not the only one with the problem. The only suggestion I saw was that there is a protective film on the camera that a lot of people don't see. This seems irrelevant to the sensor failing to judge the proper distance to the subject. I did have the film but it has a hole cut out so the camera's view is unobstructed, I took it off anyway.
I looked at the sensor and it does have an un-glasslike wavey-ness to it.
I started picking away at the edge but it seemed like I might be scratching it and nothing started peeling up. I need to look closer but cant find my magnifying glass. I'm leaning towards no film on there. Does anyone know for sure or have any fix for the focus issue?
Thanks.
I am having the same issue now. Anyone know how to fix?
Try zooming in one step before trying to focus for a macro shot. Works like a charm for me.

I'll try zooming in first, possibly a great tip but, that picture you posted is a great example of a crap macro. No offense.
You are certainly not the only one. The autofocus is god awful on my S5. Even at normal distances it will often fail to focus. It's something I've just had to accept and live with.

Which is why i removed it. I selected the wrong one when uploading and then lost all will to upload the correct one. It does work though. Unzoomed I could not get the camera to focus on the coil at all. One zoom step in and it focused immediately.

I've been having the same issue with my S5 and the back ward facing camera (as the forward facing one works fine). However, I've tried resetting the phone,
I love the phone, but the camera will focus sometimes and sometimes it won't. Resetting the cameras cache and all of it's settings sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.
It's still under warranty as I purchased it in Dec of 2014. Called samsung and they will take in for repair, but I'm out the phone for about two weeks!!
Is there something else I can try. I know it's not an app as the hard reset wiped out everything on the phone.
