Tether Issues:
I was having problems with the tethering. I uninstalled and installed about 5 times. I did a fix permission step and still had problems.
I went ahead and used these settings and it works.
WiFi Tether - TrevE Mod
generic (wlan0)
enable wi-fi encryption
wi-fi driver reload 1 enabled
wi-fi driver reload 2 disabled
MSS clamping enable
routing fix enable
thanks for posting. the same settings work for me.
I am not trying to be mean in saying this but those are the settings you need to use for WiFi teather with the HTC One, nothing new and not specific to ViperRom.

Before I was using it with wi-fi driver reload 1 disabled.
My previous settings were:
generic (wlan0)
enable wi-fi encryption
MSS clamping enable
routing fix enable
Now:
generic (wlan0)
enable wi-fi encryption
wi-fi driver reload 1 enabled
wi-fi driver reload 2 disabled
MSS clamping enable
routing fix enable
Without touching the wifi driver setting.

If that's the case then why does mine work without those settings? I've never had to configure my wifi tether app. So maybe it is specific to ViperRom at this time.
Mine is set to Auto... encryption never worked and it's from my understanding that it never will with HTC, but maybe I'm wrong and misread what I found.
EDIT: Hmmm, guess I was wrong. However mine did work without these settings, I would just get a message saying that there was an error, but it still worked. Encryption didn't work with my previous settings, but now it does with these.

Way to resurrect a 2 month old thread. Yes the OP was correct you do need those settings.
Thanks for this post!
Worked For Me!
I just had to log in and say thank you for posting this! I'm running TrickDroid 1.0.0 GE on an AT&T HTC One and this got my wifi tethering working again! I normally name the SSID "HTC One" but the space presented a problem. Changing it to just "HTC" ended up getting it to work. My iPad still wouldn't recognize it automatically so I manually joined and it connected just fine. My other settings were the same as previously listed. Thanks again!
worked on my sprint HTC one rooted and using viperROM v1.1.0
Thanks!
Settings worked perfectly for me.
I also froze tetheringguard, and hotspot stuff.
Where are these settings??
I have tried a few things, but I can't get tethering to work on LTE. It works on cdma, but not any other band. I tried searching for GSM network to try it on, but my m7 said there were no GSM networks found. Yet my old t-mobile phone has full service.

If you are in charge of the router, set it to a low channel (1-5 or 1-6). That solved my problems.
If it does not, there are more discussions in the forums, although in my impression some of the recommended cures are rather "obscure".
what are other ways?

My wifi worked everywhere but my house, which used WPA2. Once I changed that from AES to TKIP encryption, it connects smoothly every time.
There are new drivers some people are using, but they don't sleep correctly, and you'll lose battery a lot faster. It's pretty much going to be a trial and error process to figure out what works for your setup.
Try while wifi on, forget the network -> turn wifi off -> turn wifi on -> connect to the network again. This shoud work but have to repeat everytime you reboot your tp.
Used to have this problem, i install different kernel -> back to original kernel boom. It works
Sent from my cm_tenderloin using Tapatalk
AES is much more secure than TKIP - which has known vulnerabilities and can be cracked much easier.
A few more things to do to help:
- Set your router to one of the lower 6 channels
- Set your router to use AES security only,
- Set your router to use wireless mode G & N (or G Only, if you have B but not N - this will allow for it to use N if possible, but everything else that isn't N can use G as well)
- Go into Wireless => Advanced settings on your tablet, and set your Regulatory Domain to 11.
Then reboot your tablet, remove the saved network you had, and reconnect to it. You should be good from then on out. My tablet has zero problem reconnecting with these settings, on four different router setups (Telus Optik all-inclusive, D-Link stock, Linksys stock, and DD-WRT customized).
Hello,
I have been trying to get WiFi Tether Root working on my HTC One but it doesn't seem to want to work. I have watched the video for it and the HTC One for Sprint and the settings he used don't work for me. He did try to support me in the Youtube comments but nothing seemed to work. I did find a WiFi tether app that does work but the phone gets so hot it eventually shuts the WiFi hotspot off. That app is WiFi Tether Router. I have also tried FoxFi and PDANet+ neither seem to work.
Does anyone know how to get WiFi Tether Root working on the HTC One with laptops and Android tablets? Below is the troubleshooting I have already done.
I have the current version of WiFi Tether Root - TrevE Mod
I have tried Device Profiles: Auto, Generic, Generic ICS/JB (wlan0), Generic ICS/JB (wlan1), and others
Enable WiFi Encryption is off
WiFi-driver reload is turned on
With any of these settings the WiFi hotspot turns on, the download and upload sections of the application show no data flowing through or very little. Normally stopping at around 24 Kb download and 124 Kb upload.
Does anyone has a working configuration for this app? Does anyone know of a rom that has the native WiFi hotspot app service check disabled? Or a WiFi Tethering app that works without overheating the phone?
I also tried the fix described in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2266268
Turned on MMS clamping and Routing fix. Still no data going through.
I have the exact same problem as OP. Pretty frustrating. I figure I'm doing something wrong, but I don't know what it is or how to fix it. I haven't tried the other tether apps. If you fix it, please post here with your settings and hopefully it will work for me.
Try and install a custom Rom the stock Rom might have disabled WiFi tethering via 3rd party apps

Hi,
I'm currently having difficulties with WiFi hotspot on my HTC One. I really like this phone, however I am THIS CLOSE to selling it. I've had HTCs in the past and the hotspot function was never an issue with these previous phones.
I am running MaximusHD 20.0.0
The WiFi hotspot OCCASIONALLY works with security disabled, however even then it is very tempermental
I usually appear to have connected (showing up as a connected device on the phone end) however it never seems to show full connection on the PC end (i.e. limited connection and no internet access or connecting times out altogether)
I have tried with multiple computers with no success
Any ideas? Appreciate the help in advance.
Cheers,
Dave
Does anyone have any ideas for trouble shooting? Is anyone else facing the same issue? Can anyone else report their WiFi hotspot working without any issues at all?
Works just fine for me, try it with another ROM (I'm ARHD), and try using the stock hotspot setting found in "more" category of your settings. Also, your carrier may be blocking it.

Is this an extra feature that you have from your carrier? Or do they not know you're tethering? Or you have the wifi hotspot as part of the regular usage for your plan?
Have you tried the google weireless tether apk instead of the stock wifi hotspot?
Is there a tethering guard.apk in your system apps?

Thanks for the replies people.
I was on ARHD and had issues there as well. Also I only ever use the stock WiFi hotspot, the HTC one.
I'm with BOOST Mobile, a MVNO on the Telstra Australia network. I have been informed on a local forum that tethering is not restricted with our plan/deal, so there should be NO issue from the network end. Mobile internet works without any problems.
I'll have to look at that, the Google Wireless Tether apk, hadn't thought of that, will report back.
What is that? I had a look through the ALL APPS section in settings and couldn't see anything like that, tethering guard apk...

Could it have anything to do with my firmware version NOT matching the ROM I am currently using?
As an update:
It appears that going S-Off and upgrading firmware to match my ROM (now on InsertCoin latest) has fixed the issue. Will report in detail once I can test properly.

So I've been a longtime foxfi -> PDANet user and ever since 4.3 dropped I've lived without tether. It wasn't THAT big a deal for me since I tether in emergency situations only and they don't come up often but now that I'm on the S5 and root has dropped I realized it's time to get tethering as a backup working.
So my question is what's the current best wifi tether option for the S5 if you've rooted it? I don't mind paying for an app if there's no free version that does the same thing or just to support a good developer. I've found things like wifi tether:
https://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
but every one I've found seems old and hasn't been updated in quite a long time.
Any feedback much appreciated.
Try WiFi Tether Router v6

Grandfathered unlimited with no option to use the built-in Mobile Hotspot without giving up the unlimited. I use MAYBE 500MB-1GB tethering a month and I'm not willing to give up unlimited for the ability to tether those rares times especially since pulling into the parking lot of a starbucks has worked for those emergencies in the last few months.

This looks promising but I don't like paid apps you can't try before buying. Does anyone else have any experience with this app?

That WiFi tether is OK to use. The core system has not been updated in a while, but if you look into the project a little deeper, you will find that the S4 just received it's own configuration into the tether.
With the S5 recently obtaining root, I'm sure the configuration will be patched in soon.
I am using 3.4pre1 (experimental). There are only two issues I came across.
1) The Logging portion fails.
2) If you are connected to a wifi hotspot, then start wifi tether, you will loose the configuration for that specific SSID. Don't worry, though, as a reboot will fix this.
Also, I use the S4 device profile. It seems there is somewhat smoother operations with this.
I have grandfathered unlimited data with AT&T and successfully enabled the built-in hotspot by using the "Disable tethering provisioning" option in WanamXposed

I just tried that and it didn't seem to work for me. I got impatient and just bought Wifi Tether Router 6 (that $25 google play credit makes it hard to be patient). It seems to work but I had some issues when I was connected to Wifi when I started to initiate the tether and actually if I was even in a place where I had a signal for a saved wifi. Forgetting the wifi networks in my house and it worked which I guess is ok since I wouldn't ever be using it someplace where I had another Wifi to connect to.
But I wouldn't mind figuring out how to use wanam xposed to do it, if there's a way to.

I can 100% confirm however that the Xposed module "X Tether" enables native tethering correctly...I am posting using it now

Yes it does seem to. Allows me to use native app, doesn't mess up wifi if connected already. I think I'll use this method. I'll just eat the $2.50 for wifi tether router I guess.
Thanks Scott.
I'm on the M developer preview with the stock m kernel. And radio. I have the settings option and have reset my APN. Also, i have no service down in the caves, so i know it has to use Wi-Fi. Not sure where to go from here. Had same problem on sinless ROM. Thanks.

I am having the same problem on 5.1.1. I know Wifi Calling works because I seen it turn on at the hospital but at home nothing. I'm currently trying to tinker with my router to see if anything is causing it to fail or not. There is talk of opening up TCP and UDP ports on your router and disabling SIP ALG on your router. Seems to work for some and not for others. I am one of those others where its not working so far.

I thought it has been reported to be working on the Google M preview with T-Mobile. Did you do full wipe and format user data?
I am fairly confident it depends on your router settings because Wifi Calling works great when I was at a fast food joint today that offered free wifi with a username and password.
When I 1st upgraded to 5.1.1 everything seemed to work, now I can't get wifi calling to come on. Using at home with same router....it stopped working for me 100%
I finally got it working today. After reading the internet I needed to enable IPsec pass through and SIP pass through in my Asus RT-N65u router. I also setup QoS for the various ports that T-Mobile and it finally works. Took me a full week to figure it out.
