[Q] Custom ROM installation troubleshooting - Galaxy S Advance I9070 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys pls help

Rooted with TWRP RECOVERY
I'm not new to installing custom ROMs either
I've done it often in my old nexus s
but in this device I'm not able to install any custom ROM
I'm able to install custom kernels without any problem
but when I try to install a ROM I get a msg saying " partitioning failed"
Can anyone help?

I tried your method! it works... thank you so much
but now after installation the phone goes into a bootloop
the Samsung galaxy s advance screen stays for a long time then it restarts back to same.
I tried with both pa and jetmod
can you pls help? or anyone else who's overdone similar problem?

Jetmod is gingerbread.
If you will use jetmod, you must fist downgrade to gb (with odin)

Factory reset, wipe dalvik, wipe cache. Probably you did all that with your old Nexus too.

did all that! tried with pure vanilla AOSP with same result!

Try flashing back fw with odin, root then install again. Try with cwm.

More details, when you get that error message from your first post?
Try JellyMod or some stock based ROMs. That are not CM based.

Dont forget to flash a Safe hernel once u intsall stoc ics..
Download the stock ics rom from samfirmware.com or from Dr Ketan sticky thread in Android Original Dev section.
Do not do any wipes on ics stock kernel.

A quick question, my Note isn't rooted and as far as I know running the stock kernel.
Is this method above in the link OK to install Jellybean without a risk to bricking it ?

[Q] Can't flash Jelly Bean, Help please!

Hi guys,
I have CivZ_FlexIcer and I love it but I really wanted Jelly Bean, so I flashed it. I kept it for a day and then tried to do something, after that something failed I tried to restore the backup of Jelly Bean I made and it was obviously corrupt because I got stuck on the LG logo. I then NVflashed stock ICS and restored a FlexIcer backup that worked fine. Everytime I try to flash Jelly Bean I get a Status 7 error, I tried the method where you edit the updater script and it installs but after restart the phone gets stuck on the LG logo and I can't mount /system in CWM. No matter what ROM, I always get this error, but ICS roms work fine. I've updated CWM and everything but now I'm stuck on ICS. Please help me!
Thanks,
Kai

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S Advance Lag issue after Update thorugh Samsung KIES

I recently updated my Samsung Galaxy S Advance with JB 4.1.2 through Samsung KIES software. Earlier my phone wasn't lagging with the Android GB version, and I was able to play games without any lag. After updating it to JB 4.1.2, I'm experiencing lagging when I play games or browse internet.
I haven't updated any ROM, I purchased a new phone, connected the phone to KIES using USB cable. As soon as this connection was successful, it should me a notification that a new Android version(JB) is available, hence I updated it.
Please provide me some solutions so that I can remove this lag.
Enter recovery mode. Factory reset, wipe cache.
Root, custom kernel and remove bloatware. Thats all you can do on stock to feel better.

Any method is the same cause in the end you'll still need to do factory reset as updating from gb to jb is a major update. Xxlqe and ddulp8 seems good.

As you said, I did factory reset and cleared cache as well, but in vain. My phone still lags.
Does anybody have any other method? Downloading custom kernel will void my warranty, so I don't wanna do it.
Does reverting back to GingerBread is the only option?
Thanks Razvan and others for replying.
Thanks in advance.

You don't have to worry about warranty because rooting and flashing custom roms/kernel for jb is hassle free and does not trigger your binary count. So, that means when you want to claim your warranty, just flash back your country official firmware and you get back your warranty. As long as you do everything right and you don't lose your download mode (means you don't brick your device) you have nothing to worry about regarding the warranty.
You can also revert back to gb if you want but I prefer to stay with jb for the apps I use. It's not a massive lag for me. Just slight delay when opening dialer, contacts and camera but the rest is awesome.

Here, you can follow this guide here. Make sure you read everything and do exactly as it says.
It is recommended that you back up your imei. Follow this guide here.
For stock based, many users said that LightJB is great. You can try that but I prefer to use Pure Vanilla because of the looks. You can also try cm-based roms although it's still in beta phase. Look in the original android development section.
Edit: Btw, which version you have? I9070 or I9070P? Make sure to check that first before flashing anything. You can see that at start up and also at about phone in settings.

Who said that TWRP is not compatible with Jellybean? And no there is no risk of bricking your phone if you flash or update to Jellybean (but don't flash the Chinese firmware - I've heard that some people bricked their phone by doing that)... Just be sure that the firmware you will be flashing is the "right" one... I suppose that you are running the Indian Gingerbread firmware - so you can officially update to DULP8 (but backup all you data, apps, etc . first)... And yes, root it and install CoCore E 6.2 or 6.8 kernel - it has TWRP 2.5 with it...

Ok but it is written that cocore kernel 6.8-or-something version is only compatible with jb. And I meant that flasing twrp when on jb is not supported. It was written on the thread. And by the way I am on JPLK2 firmware so is it safe to flash that kernel over twrp?.. I'm relatively newb to kernels but not custom roms, so it may seem like a noob question... my apologies

No. Galaxperia is jb stock based rom. You need to be on jellybean first to flash that. Once you're on jb, you can flash with either twrp/cwm. If you flash that while you're on gb, you're gonna stuck at bootscreen.

You need to stop worrying about "bricking your phone"... as long as you know what you are doing, nothing bad should happen to your phone... and Yes you will lose TWRP... but after updating to JB you can easily root it and install CoCore E kernel with TWRP.....

Custom recovery (TWRP in your case) is on the same partition as kernel is. By flashing stock firmware kernel partition is getting wiped and new kernel with stock recovery will be instaled. First try to understand what is happening when you do something, and you will not have anything to worry about.
Againg what is already said - you can't install JB custom ROM on GB, and you can't install GB custom ROM on JB. Flashing firmware with Odin will not brick your phone, but only if you use firmware for your phone. If you have I9070P, I9070 firmware will brick it. And otherwise, if you have I9070, I9070P will brick it. Hard brick.
If you want TWRP you have to install kernel with TWRP embended in side of it. Rooting will not harm your phone, it just insert SU file that enable having root permissions.

cm has its own kernal.so wen u r flashing another rom after cm, need to install kernal also.in ur case u can use COCORE E 7 OR 8 by cocafe.
so before flashing do factory reset , cache partition and dalvik cache.flash the rom , wen complete flash the kernel also. and it will take hardly 10 min. if no luck then better redownload the rom using any download manager

If flashing kernel doesn't work
You can always try to flash stock few through Odin
Or have a backup of any stock with you
You need to be on stock based rom (kernel must be stock) to install another stock based rom. Only way you can install some stock based rom over cm is if that rom has embended stock kernel (or some mod of it like cocore). If you install it over cm kernel you will end up with bootloop. So now it is best to flash stock fw with odin, root, install cocore and than this rom. Or with Universal kernel flash, install cocore from cm and copy rom before booting to recovery. You will not be able to boot into cm after installing cocore. And you must unzip kernel.bin.md5 from cocore zip to be able to install it with Universal kernel flash.
