Hey guys,
it would be nice if someone can upload some uncompressed photos and movies which are captured with the Jelly Bean firmware. Because some people say that the autofocus is fixed in Jelly Bean and other people say it is still bad.
I ask because i want to buy this smartphone but the camera is holding me back.

(Sorry for my bad english)
There's a thread in the themes section where users can upload pictures, maybe look in there

Thank you.
Why do so many people say that the camera isn´t good? When I look at these pictures it looks brilliant for a smartphone:

Most people have problems with the cam cause the most important feature of smartphone photography, that you can pull it out and make a quick shot, is not always given in lack of a good auto focus and not this good light sensors you need a little bit of time to make good looking photos

I've noticed that the camera of the IS blur parts of photos a lot. I noticed this problem on subjects with finer details eg. skin, rocks etc. It tends to blur or supress the finer details within the subject making them unacceptably too soft.
Opinions?
EDIT: I meant to say NOISE REDUCTION
Nothing like this for me ... Pictures are perfect ... I love the cam ... Maybe its cuz u zoom in too much or something.

Hmmm, I never zoom though.
Or maybe its just our diff opinions ... For me its perfect ... Maybe u expected something better

I agree.. I'm a photographer and would love to use the IS camera for some projects.. they obviously -in my eyes- compress too much.. It's impossible for an 8MP camera to produce files under 1MB..
Was'nt there a patch for that or is it only for rooted phones?

I hope this is just a software problem and hopefully they could patch it via an update.

I'm no photographer, but I noticed the file size as well, too much compression.
And waaaay to much noise reduction.
Also, you can switch of standard widescreen to normal 4:3 which results in this:
5:3 = 3264 x 1952 = 6371328 = 6.4 megapixel
4:3 = 3264 x 2448 = 7990272 = 8.0 megapixel
Hopefully we can turn off noise reduction and/or compression in the next update. Shouldn't be too hard for HTC to disable stuff right
Yes... I just upgraded from HTC Desire and I found that pics are not as detailed as before...
The compression thing should be an option, like many other DC.
I noticed the same with my IS...
My Camera 360 app's night enhancement mode is unusable now.
My N1 took beautiful sharp pictures of this same spot I took.
Now it's all blocky, soft, and washed out even though I've maxed out the resolution and size.
This makes me mad!
If it can take macroshots well, why can't it take landscape / non-macroshots well too?

Here's the patch for CM7 (N1). Root is required as it is replacing a file in the /system partition.

We dont have root yet though. Makes me sadder =/
HTC should update the firmware and fix this themselves. I wonder if theyll have this problem on Verizon's Incredible 2.
I've send an email to HTC support just out of curiosity of their official response.. Although I don't believe they'll say something significant. Companies tend to defend their choices..
when i load the photos to my laptop, i found all of them a little bit red...
I really can not be satisfied with this so-called 8 mega-pixel camera.

The most terrible scenario is using zoom. You would want to move forward a few steps, it entirely defeats the purpose of zoom.
We should rally this and send more samples to them.
What email contact did you guys use?
Hopefully they patch this with the Gingerbread update!
Maybe they had used to the bad quality of camera, because from now on, HTC is really not good at the entertainment field in mobile phone, no matter camera or music.
I use a slr as my main camera as I do wedding photography as a hobby
I'm looking for a portable camera which will give me as much choice in settings as my slr and looking at the reviews and you tube the galaxy camera seems to be the one
Question from you users is it really as good as the reviews, are there any issues ? Do the settings really work ? I use aperture for slowing down shots for water etc and I see the camera has the settings so do they work ?
I am going to go into my local jessops tomorrow but wanted for opinions
Thanks

To play a little devils advocate: The pictures this camera produces are very good, but to be totally honest a half decent SLR will blow it away in terms of pure picture quality as it is in high-end compact/superzoom territory.
Internals from this camera are quoted to come from the Samsung WB850F, and one would imagine Samsung has done some more work on them to qualify a price almost twice what you can pick one of those up for now - as well as obviously the android benefit
I mean you're effectively getting the serious hardware from a SGS3 in there... That and the screen is absolutely phenominal, makes most camera displays look like very pathetic toys.
It sold itself to me anyway I was there on launch day for one.

It depends on what you class as a review. The Samsung promo videos are excellently produced and really show off the countless features. I haven't seen too many in depth reviews so far.
My own experience is that it looks stunning, build quality solid, screen is outstanding, features are impressive, performance is excellent. But as for photographs, it still depends on 3 things... Lighting, Artistic eye for a good shot and a moderate level of understanding how cameras should be set up. These are pretty much standard for any camera you use away from the one built in to your average phone. Get these right and you can produce excellent shots that will make you proud.

Considering the OP shoots with an SLR and does wedding photography as a hobby - I have a feeling the Canon G12 will deliver superior image quality and more features that matter for a serious photgrapher for only $379 (Actually, only $299 now at B&H...), compared to the Galaxy Camera which is designed for posting to your Facebook wall at $120 (Edit: $200 right now) more. As you mention, it has the internals of a FAR cheaper P&S camera, and I'd be shocked if it delivers significant improvements in IQ over that model. After all, the $200 extra in price over the WB850F (currently $300 after rebate at Adorama) can easily be explained by the display, touchscreen, Exynos4 CPU, and at least $100 wasted on a 3G radio interface few people will use. (Most will tether to another device.)
Hi everyone,hi to all my friends.
I want to ask very important question.Z1's camera is very bad I think. I am waiting for a better camera. My old phone Xperia Arc is better than Z1.Is this a software problem? Is there anyone who thinking like me? Or Are there some special settings for camera?

Hello,
I am also very unhappy with the camera.
Today I updated my firmware from 534 to 257 and I cannot see any differences in the pictures.
But this is only my view, maybe there are improvements which I do not see.
What is the problem? I have to admit I am quite happy with the camera.

Guys these are two shots I took with the new firmware... not too bad I guess
This is @1000 iso... noise level is pretty good and white balance is better than earlier
This is in daylight with plenty of details
I think camera-quality is just where you can realistically expect it.
About on par or better than cheap compacts with same sensor-size, but as you can expect it can´t compete with high-end compacts like Canon G-Series, Panasonic LX, Olympus XZ or similar (I don´t want to mention Sony RX100(II) of course which is far ahead).
On the positive side is relatively low NR of luminance-noise which leaves most fine detail intact, virtually no ugly chroma-noise without the colors being washed out up to the highest sensitivities and quite low contrast which leads to quite good DR for a phone-camera (and of course also doesn´t hide the noise by clipping to black like many other phones)
Negative is mostly the camera-app, unfortunately most other phones aren´t better here as well:
The so called "Manual" mode is a joke, on a real camera this would qualify as P-Mode as most, but certainly not M.
Why are the even give you the chance to adjust ISO while not telling you the shutter-speed the camera will use is beyond me. It is not useful to set ISO yourself when you don´t know which shutter-speed you well get. Of course a real shutter-priority-mode would be much better, but I guess that´s to much to ask.
Superior-Auto is too limiting. I know this mode is meant for point&shoot, but I think the possibility to choose the AR you like wouldn´t be to overwhelming for beginners. And of course that you can only start superior-auto from the lockscreen or with the camera-button also is very stupid.
Besides the scene-recognition of superior-auto is also a bit hit&miss.
Also sharpening can be somewhat high, which emphasizes noise and can destroy fine detail.
I have a sony xperia Z C6603 and I absolutely hate something about the phone. Before i take pictures it looks great (amazing even) as i take the photo the picture is perfect, then after a second it processes it so much i look more like an alien from outer space than a human being. Not only this but the files are also ridiculously small compare to all other phones. I've downloaded the FV-5 app and it's great, but my photos from my front camera stll lokks like horse s***. i do not want other setting configurations, because nothing fixes it... Has anybody made a fix for this via rooting or whatever? i've searched all over the internet after a solution , but can't seem to find one. One of you geniuses must have a solution, right? (have the 4.3 android version and 10.4.B.0.569 build number).
Not yet. People have tried.many things but.no luck so far. At least Sony finally updated the camera app which was the same since x1 was released

geez.... Yah... my photos did not get better at all, haha. If they could just change the format to JPG or whatever (know that is big files) that would be fantastic, but nooo.... (now referring to sony and not XDA-developers) Great phone, TERRIBLE photo software.

That does not help with the secondary camera, it's bad quality no matter what I do.

we can see it two ways
the camera hardware sucks and we can't do anything about it
or the camera software sucks and we have to wait for sony to update their binaries and libraries and other stuff. which we also cannot do anything about.

Hello!
I have installed AOKP 4.3 ROM on my Xperia Z. When I need to take a fast picture, I just use auto ISO/Exposure...
When I wanna get better picture in low light, I just use a little bit tweaking In low light, when I'm taking picture of some close object, I just put ISO on 100/200 (max), use flash and that's it! When I'm taking picture a little bit further (3/4 meters), I use 200/400 ISO, and use flash if I can (very big con of our device is bad flash). When I'm doing night portrait, just put ISO on 400 and turn on HDR, photos will look awsome believe me
Tonight I could upload some pictures from my Z, just to give you some clue.
P.S. When you're using front camera, turn on HDR you will get a much better photo quality

Hi everyone im new on this forum and wanted to say a problem with my Xperia. I dont know if i dont know how to take photos or firmware & software is bad or just Xperias camera is really bad. Especially at nights, at very high and very low lights my phone takes really bad photos. I was suspecting of if its replica or fake i checked its not. Even an iPhone 5 (a friend of mine) has over perfomanced Xperia Z1 and they joked around me, i was suprised.. I will attach some samples of my phone and the samples i found on the internet you compare and tell me what it can be,i see too much blur or noise on my photos. Am i a bad (must be really bad) photographer ? My firmware & software is bad ? My camera is broken in some way ?
Thank you for your help already.
