Why do YOU need root acces? - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

In the light of the new FW update and the problem with getting root access I was wondering - why do people want to have root access.
I like to have my device rooted, but actually I can't think of any functions or apps I use that require root - other than flashing an occasional MOD that needs it to install. Oh - and I like to use Root FTP so I can transfer files on my home wireless network and not need a USB cable. And I use the advanced root requiring options in BetterBatteryStats.
For what purpose do you have your device rooted?

Threads like these should be closed please.

Personally it's good so one can remove all that irritating bloatware, but I've opted not to root, as Sky Go app won't work with rooted access so as to protect its downloaded content. Besides one can simply disable annoying apps in settings.

This is just a thread in which people can share their reasons for customizing their device.
I think it's a rather interesting and on the same time harmless topic.

I agree with your point, my device is also not rooted and I am happy with my device current status, having more than 100 apps in my phones. I have heard that rooting sometimes brick your phone, or sometimes less stable than stock Rom. The developers of stock rom are obviously not illiterate instead they have super knowledge, if you think they are not then you probably need some real rest. No offence.

Backup number one, and trust me it was a pain in the backside not having any form of application backups.
Uninstalling Sony bloatware trial rubbish.
Fix problems with the phone, like WIFI because the same problem exists with the new firmware.
Adaway, forgot how good this application works until I didn't have it.
Connect my DSLR via usb cable to full control my camera from the phone including liveview.
Lightflow led notification works better with root.
Installing mods like making those horrible softkeys smaller, pureaudio...
Can change the DPI of my screen to get some benefit from the full HD screen.
Mod the headphones so the skip track keys actually skips the tracks and not just adjusting volume.

Rooting will not brick your device, the same as all application installs will not brick your device. Unlocking bootloader however has the possibility.

It is pointless cause it is a simple question. A question that has been answered a billion times.
You can Google it and there's a bunch of articles, forums, etc... That already answered this question.
Or maybe use the search button in xda.
Number 1 rule on xda: search before you post.
Not hard to read the rules, don't you agree?
Flooding the forum with useless threads is unnecessary, especially when it is already answered. And especially when other unnecessary threads like how to root 253 is flooding the forums.
PS: Here I provided you with the links as well.

I disagree that it is pointless. With the links you gave me there's a lot of reasons why rooted units have advantages, yes.
But by asking in a forum where people use the same device as I do, use the same software as I do and get the same errors as I do the answers here are more relevant to me - and maybe others in this section of XDA as well.
Sure, we can just search and Google everything and rely on simple answers without debate but it seems to me that you will end up with a sterile and stale forum where people are not allowed to just talk.
If mods find that this thread is spam and a source of flooding XDA, a breaking of the rules and regulations and unconstructive, then mods should by all means close the thread.
I wouldn't want to use up all the space on the Internet, or destroy this forum with wear and tear from my pointless thread.
And God forbid people had a nice time.

Clean the forums a bit?

I'm not sure what the policy regarding useless posts on the forums is, but in my opinion about 8/10 topics could be deleted altogether...
I've been reading the SGM forums for a year or so, flashed a lot of ROMs and solved a lot of problems, and posted a couple of useless posts. About six months ago there was mostly useful info here, but now if a search for anything, there are just threads like "OMGplzzzamigonnabrickmyphoneififlasangrybirdsinmyphnfrmPlystore!!!!!?)(&%&/LOL".. it's frustrating. It's really hard to find even the stuff i know are here, and have read some time ago. (Should use bookmarks more)
So, could the mods use a heavier hand in filtering all the pointless and plain stupid threads here?

[Discussion] LG Optimus 4x HD - Updates

Welcome to
The LG Optimus 4x HD Updates Discussion Thread
The purpose of this thread is to provide a singular location to talk about all updates for all regions. There is no need to create a new thread for every update for every region. Just discuss it here in this thread
Rules:
Keep discussion relevant and to the point.
Keep discussion as factual as possible.
Only post if your post can add value to the over all thread. IMPORTANT this one
Asking questions is not encouraged directly in this thread. Those should be posted in the Q&A subforum.

Not worth reporting, threads of this type are unnecessary anyway, not sure why op copied that thread(they left the [/QUOTE] at the end lol), its not a lot of words to write yourself.

So far the thread is going pretty well! But I must admit, that is an amateur mistake! - Next time, change the hyper links. then none of this would have happened! :good:
"The purpose of this thread is to provide a singular location to talk about all updates for all regions. There is no need to create a new thread for every update for every region. Just discuss it here in this thread"
You can't discuss all updates in one place, you need to maintain some order. It's not convenient if one person talks about v10A, other about v10H and the third one talks about v20A, and all that in one thread on the same page. Subthreads are necessary in these situations. You can make a general thread about this phone where you can discuss about different visual themes or such less-relevant things, but official updates/ROMs/kernels need to be subthreaded because it's easier to find specific information you're looking for. After all, that's the true purpose of threads and subthreads, isn't it?
OP, if you realise and looked at the past, there's already a well used and discussed thread for this purpose. Of course its title can be tweaked a little.

if threads are unnecessary, might break some rules, or whatever you think might be wrong, then it is worth reporting
that's exactly the point of this button.
many people think the report button would be "holy", and you would only be allowed to press it in "worst cases". but, in fact, the opposite is the case. most mods are thankful you hitting the report button. FSM's are splitted my manufacturers, "our" FSM team has to deal with all sony(ericsson), LG and Motorola sections, so the chance for seeing something going wrong is ~0.
sorry for the heavy OT, but i just had to let it out now

HAHA!! i see. how abt "official LG rom discussion thread"? lol but the current title is good enough imo, having the contents that really counts.
Just saying....
So.... 2 pages so far and not really anything in the way of discussion regarding O4X updates.....
I tend to side with the view that LG are far more likely to concentrate future efforts on new devices rather than issue significant firmware updates to existing models; by cell phone handset standards, the O4X whilst still very capable and adaptable is already something of a dinosaur where age is concerned.
What keeps us going is the excellent work done by the devs and custom rom artists

I don't understand why my thread was closed. Can I have an explanation?

Moderator closed your thread probably because a simple search on the forum about htc one kernel should had be enough to find your answer.
Maybe you should start by reading the OP of some kernel threads like elementalx, bulletproof, teamseven etc....
and im sure you'll find an asnwer in like 5 min.

It did and you were right. I thought it would be rather haphazard to just start reading kernel OPs but once I ruled out the sense kernels (including the first two you named) I was able to find TeaMSeven which did the trick. I'm a happy camper and I appreciate your help and advice!!
Btw, I was hesitant to flash a kernel without being really familiar with it and the Rom I'm using because, in my experience, developers do not support alternate kernels and I didn't want problems. But in this case my desire to have a menu button overrode all caution.

[DISCUSSION] Cleaning the TW Lollipop build

I started this thread in hopes we could discuss the cleaning process of this new lollipop release. There's quite a bit of bloat that could be removed, but since this is new, it's hard to know exactly what could be safely removed without facing a bootloop or force close loop. Does anyone have a list of what can safely be removed from the lollipop release? I opened Root Explorer and searched around a little and there's a ton of knox related stuff in there, for example. A little polish bloatware apps as well.
EDIT: I apparently removed far too much in my cleaning attempt as I faced a bootloop and I'm now currently reflashing through Odin,

This isn't a question per se. A discussion, if you will. I edited the first post to reflect just that a bit more.
Not everything needs to be sweeped up and sent to the Q&A. This is a valid thread since so many users will face the same problem.
Why do you want everything moved out of the General threads section? I've never seen such aggressive mods who fail to promote activity on a board and actually stifle collaboration. They take the fun out of everything XDA stands for.
Just delete the folder of the bloat and than it should work faster, i would only want someone to create a custom kernel stock modified, becauss battery drain is bad xD

That's just it. Deleting too much makes me end up in a bootloop. I gave it a second go and ended up in another bootloop. It seems you can't just up and remove all knox related files (are they tied to something bigger?).
Hmm.

I searched for "knox" in Root Explorer and removed every file relating to "knox" (a couple of apps here and there and lib files). I guess that was the mistake; wrecklessly removing it all.

To start can you post all things you deleted before getting bootloop ? and we can study all to see what can be deleted and what can not be

Regular safe bloat like Sammy crapware, and then all knox related files (I suspect it didn't like me deleting the knox files).

pay no notice to him, he trolls and talks to people like ****e.
Mods let him get away with it so nothing much you can do.

From what I can see, the Polish rom contains three non*Sammy apps: E-Kiosk, Sky Cash and some weird app I can't spell but it begins with an R.
Who trolls?

I haven't actually removed them yet, I've frozen them in titanium backup for the time being.
I've reflashed with odin two times so far and will not give it another try just yet.
