Hello,
The title is pretty straightforward. I ****ed up and bricked my GT-i9305 (International LTE). The touchscreen doesn't work, I tried very hard to fix it but couldn't.
Even with Triangle Away, I can't seem to be able to fix the counter. It doesn't matter, money isn't too much of a problem, I just want a phone that works.
So I have 2 questions :
- will Samsung repair a bricked phone without warranty ?
- how much will it cost ? (100$, 200$, more ?)
Thank you !

No >>>unless they do not see its been modified and with a bricked phone that is possible .
-
Cost depends upon what is required to repair .

The phone works perfectly except the touch screen. So it's still possible to access download mode, the phone menu etc.
I don't understand why they wouldn't repair the phone (while charging full price) since I'm a customer though.

Why not try repairing yourself with spare from eBay? Youtube has plenty of vids showing how to take phones apart. Its not difficult if you have a little patience and some small screwdrivers. Fixed the wife's s2 when orange refused to fix charging circuit even though known prob on internet, told me water damage which it wasn't....b******s!!!!
Good luck whatever you decide.

Hello everyone,
One day, I upgraded a ROM firmware (I don't remember which ROM exactly..) on my Captivate..
I formated everything before update (data, cache, AND system !).
During update I was making a coffee, and when I came back on the phone,
it was absolutely dead.. Only a full black screen.. Not detected on USB, just nothing.
After that, I tried everything that was possible (a lot of combo's, Odin3..)
Then, I bought a JIG, but still nothing, I tried with some different combo's (I can't remember which ones..)
Now, I would like to recover my Captivate! But.. how ?
If someone find the final good solution, I would like to donate via Paypal
Thanks, in advance!
Need more info. Which rom? Did you use 3 button fix? Have you tried adb? What about holding volume down while plugging in usb? Are you sure battery isn't just dead (dont laugh, its happened)?
If you did all that, its most likely a hard brick. There are developers here that offer JTAG service.
As I said, I don't remember the ROM. I was trying every new ROM, so, I really can't remember.. Sorry
About 3 button fix.. I don't know what it is exactly !? If it is vol down+up+Power, yes I did !
Nope, I did not try ADB.. I tried to find informations about this, but I cannot find! If you can help me about this, u'r' welcome !
Vol down does nothing..
I think my battery is still alive. Because when I plug my charger on it, it becomes a little warm after some hours, so I guess it's still alive..
I saw some JTAG infos, but I don't know what to do.. Do I need to send my Captivate to a JTAG's owner in USA !? It's like 40$ to send a secured shipping to USA..
Thanks for trying to help me!
If a jig will not turn it back on you may need the jtag. There are threads about it.

Is that possible to buy a JTAG ? I think I can't make one..
I made some searchs on eBay but I found nothing.
Thanks for helping
EDIT : I installed ADB on my computer, now I would like to connect it to my phone, but.. Don't know how!? What combo do I need to do, for my captivate be recognized by ADB ?
Thanks.

JTAG is not something you can buy on ebay. As mrhaley said, you need to send your phone to one of the developers who offer JTAG service. They will fix it and send it back to you.
Download AIO toolbox, go to advanced and clock reboot into download mode with your phone on and it will go to download mode, no jig needed. it worked for me just now.

Thank you guys for these answers.
* The problem is that I cannot send my Captivate to a JTAG's owner in USA,
because it's approximately 40$ fees to send it ! Then, with a return, it makes a total of 80$..
* Another problem is that I bought my captivate on eBay, and it's not under warranty..
* Maybe it remains the "ADB" solution (I never tried this), but I don't know how to connect my phone? because it stays turned off, then if I connect, I just get nothing..
Adb doesn't work unless you can get into the OS. You have a brick, jtag is your ONLY option of getting a working phone.

Ok, I understand, but .. How could i use a JTAG if I cannot send my Captivate to USA ? (too much expensive!). Thanks
It's either bricked forever or you pay for jtag. Those are your only options.

How are you at soldering? The captivate is one of the hardest phones to jtag, the solder points are smaller than the width of a dime, it would be really easy to fry the circuit board trying to jtag it yourself.

Do you think I can still sell my Captivate, for those who want to repair/fix or use parts? If I can, what kind of price? (my captivate is in perfect state, like new)
There's a user from XDA forums,Mcguyver1980. In one of his posts says he's in Belgium and can fix bricked phones. He already went there. But he wants to buy the parts in the "grey market"
@OP : Y U NO repair it in samsung service center? It's your fault so don't be so cheap with your phone.
They say they will change the motherboard.
But I think they are actually using Jtag to restore the phone! I think motherboard has the IMEI number assigned to it. Mine did not change even after I unbricked my phone with service center after using rom manager.
There is no spare parts for Ace in the grey market! Best thing to do will be giving it to service center!

+1.
go to the service center and use ur warranty.
If ur warranty is gone, make up an excuse.
One time, that happened to me and they didn't accept the warranty. sayin' its my fault?!
So, i made up an excuse saying that i thought this was a game and it sounded so fun...bla bla bla
I installed it then clicked on that, and then my phone didn't open.
and they got trolled, and accepted it.
man is your phone hard bricked or soft bricked
if it is a soft brick then it would get fine by simply flashing it with a new stock rom
is it hard bricked "means when pressing the power button and even on connecting it with a charger there is no response" then you have to get it's mother board changed from a service center and if it is in warranty then told tell them that it was rooted just say that it stopped working while using maps or any other pre-installed app.

I'm not sure if this will work since I'm new to this however if your phone is detected by your PC when you connect it then maybe try installing some kind of a ROM using Odin
Correct me if I'm wrong but I would have done that if that was my case. And again I am not sure if it is even possible because I don't know how Odin works to the fullest but I know it can install Roms to a phone from the PC only as long as its connected
Again correct me if I am wrong

Hey everyone
I'm a bit lost as to how to get started with fixing my hard bricked phone. It occured when flashing a leaked JB rom and now won't turn on, not even in Download mode.
I'm in Australia but bought my phone in Malaysia so the local Samsung shop is refusing to repair it without replacing the main PCB. They advised that a repair would be possible without the hardware replacement, but it would be illegal for them to perform because of issues relating to the IMEI (WTF?).
I haven't been able to get any response out of the phone. The battery was very low when I flashed (terrible move, I know), is it possible that the battery now isn't charging and this is why I'm not able to go into Download mode? I have a few mates with the same phone so I could potentially try a charged battery in it...
All up - I'm guessing that I have to manually write to the EMMC.... Is this just a matter of obtaining a JIG cable and using Odin? I'd like to avoid opening the phone up, but I can do if it's my only option.
Cheers in advance
Paul

I'm assuming you only get an LED? ,If you are suffering Erase Cap there is very little that can be done at the stage you're at.
All information regarding Ecap can be found in that thread.
You may say hello in there and get somebody far wiser than me to pick it up..
Thanks for the suggestions guys.
Unfortunately the phone is completely unresponsive (although it does warm up when plugged in!)
I'm guessing it's the EMMC bug rearing it's ugliest form and it now needs me to bit a JIT kit to rewrite to it directly... but it'll take me weeks to learn up on that and get the parts...
I'm guessing I need one of these bad boys to proceed:

Can anyone confirm/deny/comment? I'm gonna go out and grab myself an Ideos X5 to hold me over, but would love to go back to my Galaxy Note.
Leaked JB rom from where did you get that
Actually there is no leaked jb rom
Try using jig to enter download mode
Before flashing what ROM and Kernel are you on?

Sorry to learn about your mishap. I suggest you should not waste money on RIFFBOX as there is little chance you will be able to revive your device in the condition it is, and if you are not into electronics, and don't have hands on experience of soldering (i mean really thin wires), this will be useless for you. I am telling this from my experience as I have same bricked note with me. Had it jtagged, but could not get it revived because the bootloader in eMMC is damaged, so the only option is to replace eMMC, which is physically impossible without sophisticated high tech machinery, or to replace the motherboard carrying eMMC chip. That is not available anywhere (not even on eBay last I checked), except Samsung Service Center, and at least in my country, they are charging like USD400 for the motherboard. I read in another thread here (cannot find it now) that it cost another guy about US$200 for the same thing else where (I think it was in India).
How much are they charging for motherboard replacement? I think you should go for this option as even if somehow you get your note revived without mb replacement, it is highly likely you'll still end up with partially damaged eMMC chip.
how did you know that it s the emmc brick?, i have my phone hardbricked before when i tried to use swap partition, and i get no responce from the phone also, i though it was the emmc brick bug, but i get it worked only with jtag, and costed me around 20$ only, and it wasn't the emmc brick, it was hardbrick but without emmc chip corruption.
the only way the emmc brick ocures is by:
wiping or formatting while on unsafe kernel
any thing else isn't emmc brick, and i think this your condition, you have to try jtag dear.
Thanks for the responses guys It's much appreciated.
I've ordered myself a little USB JIG, will see how that goes and proceed from there!

Well with respect to indian currency, the motherboard is around 3k.
But i would advice you to take it to customer sare service.
They can handle this with more ease, and the price may be around the same as the latter.

Please let me know if you have any idea about ..where else i can get galaxy mini motherboard other them their service center's..
Well if you ask so.
Try the underground mobile shop , ask them for motherboard replacement.
I got my old cell phone fixed the same way in chandigarh sector 22-c
But still i would recommend go for simple and full proof service center repairs.
It might be the right time to pay a visit to one of them.
Good Luck.
Ok now that I've bricked my Ace, I have a question. If I take it in to a repair shop to have it Jtagged for repair (full brick, no response at all) can they save the software that was loaded on my phone or does the process eliminate the entire phone's contents and return it back to factory state? I had a lot of stufff on it, that I should've backed up and didn't....
Entire phone will be resetted..
Thank-You for your reply! I was hoping that wouldn't happen, but I guess that's the price I pay for blindly hitting 'install'.
Thanks Again,

How likely would they be to discover I had bricked the phone if I were to submit it for warranty repairs? Would they delve that far into it in trying to repair it? It is hard bricked so I don't even get a screen any longer when I try to turn it on. It does however show up in Odin, just Odin can't do anything further with it. I'm have trouble finding someone local to jtag it.
Thanks!

Odin can't do anything for my brick, I've tried different ports no luck. It's under warranty, I've only had it a month so I'll drop it of at the provider and send it in. Worse possible scenario they'll bill me for the repair if they figure out what I did.
