Speak to FreeXperia Project and see if it's remotely possible.
I doubt it is, but a part of me believes it must be. All devices were created unlocked, and locked upon carriers request, which makes me hope there's a "backdoor" somewhere in the code that locked them.

Remember to tell this dev that the bootloader can be unlocked thru the .TA file if it has the correct code as a xperia T unlocked bootloader, Using somebody elses .TA could hard brick your device if not used correctly ( etc I flash Xperia T .TA from somebody elses device with no modifications = brick. The thread here ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2053466 ) was messing with it, but it does not work most of the time and will just stay as a locked bootloader device and it disables radio ( no calling, texting, sms, data. ). Back then they had a thread with editing the .ta but it was deleted because the op hard bricked peoples phone by change a value for 0 to 1 and that string was something about bootloader, an example of this brick would be bootloader lock = 1, boom phone wont work. I dont really remember what the string was. We could hire a person to do this, but we have to make sure we unlock it before we give him the money. ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2053466 ) development for that link next to the link is dead and i mean it just stopped. Any mistake done to the .TA will just hard brick your phone and make it useful as a brick. We must focus on the .TA file.

The bootloader status is located in the .TA as well as SIM lock status.

i dont know if its just me but What gives?? every other phone that has being released by HTC has being made SIM & CID unlocked for free or have got a work around by the guys on these forums sometimes quickly sometimes in a few months but they are one step ahead of HTC they love a challenge as other develipers out there do (just look at the iphone that was upgraded to make hackproof and the hack was on the net within 2hours of the firmware update being released so apple wasted all there time and money for nothing.) so yes im sure pigs can fly (i saw it on the simpsons but mr burns never forked out the $1,000,000 to the orphanage) and i know the devs here will have this device working as sweet as they can better than ur wildest dreams and it will without charge but not free they spend time and effort and deserve our donations and respect. unless ur a tight wad and if so, get of ur flamming high horse saying it wont be done....

What are you trying to unlock? It already is SIM unlocked. Just put in a SIM card from any carrier and it will work... Sheesh.

I thought the same. Mine is from T-mobile NL but is not simlocked. Tested it with another sim and it works like a charm. Maybe the voda ones are locked not sure though.

Guys, maybe here is not the proper place for my question but somehow it has to do with the topic. So is there a way to find out if my X1 is unlocked by the manufacturer ( has never been locked ) or by someone else - "hacked to be unlocked" - like it's done here...And if so, can I check this out ? Am I gonna lose the "patch", "unlocker" (dont know how to call it) after flashing and using different roms from here ? Can I save the settings or check what had been done with the device. Thanks in advance...

actually, it's not necessary, our software lets you verify whether you're unlocked anyway, and the device will never relock itself.
Yesterday I used this tool to remove a SIM-Lock. It did work perfectly!
I also removed the security lock. Is it possible to re-lock it? Would be necessary for warranty issues.
so I was curious if any of the reviewers are randy enough to shoot one of their Atrixes (atrii, atrixs, atrices?) to a credible dev here on xda and let them start working on root, and finding out exactly how (if at all) locked the bootloader is.
Maybe one of the devs will pick one up and we could donate to help cover the costs.

I don't know if there is a particular dev who is looking to work with this phone, or any of that. Hope this is gonna be very very educational for people too. Unbricking always is some sort of a mystery for many and if you send off your phone to some stranger on ebay, you usually don't get an idea about the "Hands On" and gettin' dirty bit of tearing down a phone and actually make it look nice and work properly again afterwards.

I think this is great and all but I have one question.
How would a single riff box provide all of us with s-off? JTAG is a great skill to have but if there is only one riff box its not going to benefit the rest of the community for s-off. We need a s-off solution that wont require all of us to buy special hardware to achieve it.

I did read your op. And the title says s-off and unbricking project.
so if this for just unbricking or both?
My point is its a little misleading. JTAG is awesome for unbricking but if this is going to be an s-off project also the average user should understand the risks of JTAG for s-off. Like it requires the phone to be taken completely apart and then flashed. And hopefully put back together correctly.
I changed the digitizer on my og evo and swore i'd never try it again. I'm not knocking what your trying to accomplish I just think the rest of the community should be aware of what jtag entails.

if you dont understand what the service is capable of don't knock it
I also don't expect every john and jane doe to send me their phone just to get s-off thats ridiculous and also CLEARLY stated in the op....
it sounds like you read the title skimmed the paragraph and are now asking why i think this is a good idea?
1) To service high end users who want the freedom of their device and don't care about warranty as it is invasive
2) to offer a free alternative for xda users who are paying sites like mobiletechvideos 40-50$ for s-off service
3) to give something back

This a bounty thread not a cry me a river thread. Please stay on topic.
As my phone is really bricked for 4 days now ...
Support doesn't want to fix it saying "they don't have the msm tool to flash the device currently".
So if you crack the passwd, which can unbrick my device internationnal. I give 20$
It is just untolerable that OnePlus support lies to users saying they don't have the tool.
By the way, no one have been rescue his bricked phone by support at now ... just check one plus forum.
That's a really joke. It's my first time with a One Pllus device and surely my last.
I have not take good the fact i cannot restore the flash firmware and furtheremore the OnePlus support is not repairing my device.

Lol I haven't seen a bounty thread since the Droid bionic days. That bounty, if I remember correctly, grew to over $2k. Some Motorola security guy I think one day was like, whelp, here yes go! I still feel the guy just waited till it was $2k to release it lol.

Long story short, you dont want to be responsible for your own actions and blame OEMs for your screw ups. You're also in for $20.

Oh yeah.. The first thing i admit is i'm so stupid to have locked back oem.
I though that after locked to stock, i'm sure to have boot corrupt, but i though to reupload stock firmware.
And this was the big surprise, no tools exists...
Any other brand have it...
So this is just contradictory because with OnePlus you can install modded twrp and unlock your bootloader, that's the phylosiphy.
PS: And by the way, If OnePlus repaired my device remotly, i would be happy, but 4 days i'm now bricked

Honestly, I think we have all done that at least once in our android careers lol. (I did it with my 6T) and ws lucky to have MSM available.
I am in for $20
I will keep everyone updated, but finally, after waiting four days lol. Super happy now, and those are the files they told me to download (See the attached image)
