The device: Samsung Galaxy Mini GT-S5570
Anroid version: 2.3.6
Rom: emanoN V7
Using: SetCPU: 787 MHz Max 245 MHz Min
AutoMemoryManager: Mild
Link2SD: 1Gb partition SDext2
This phone has almost 2 years now, and a year ago I decided to improve it. However 5 major problems stil persist (I decided to create a separate thread for each one of them).
One of them is that even though I've created a partition in the SD card, and linked or moved all apps to the SD, my internal memory is still near to full. What is taking so much space? Where can I free up space?

how should i partition my 2gb stock Kingston sd card because i am currently using Sparksmod 2.1 Rom and they require a ext3 or ext4 partition so i parititoned my sd card with a 32 mb linux swap partition and 512 mb ext 3 partition. At first everything was fine, but after a few weeksd my phone is REALLY SLOW and unstable.
EDIT: FAT 32 has 1423 MB
What should i do? Did i partition it the wrong way.

Ext2/3/4 has nothing to do with slowing down, most likely it's swap, especially when swappiness is set too high ...

I was thinking about that too, but since the SD card was only 2GB, space is limited. May be making the swap to 128MB instead of 62MB. might help then. And set the swappiness to the middle setting.

It would be better to renounce on swap completely. If there is no chance, set swappiness at most to 20-30, but this depends also on your "profile", i.e. what apps you are using, what services are running, etc.

Im not even sure if my phone is using swap at all and the rom doesnt need you to have swap so should i remove the 32 mb linux swap partition then?
Oh and i checked and i am not using swap
so if its not the swap then could it be the apps2sd ext?
Cuz i read somewhere that apps2sd makes the phone take longer to run apps
and this is what is happening to my phone the apps are lagging it, when i launch them they take at least 5 seconds to load, and when i use the browser my phone becomes really unstable.
Startup time for apps stored on sd-ext may be a bit longer, but do not change over the time. Are you using also data on sd? This might be a problem, if not, there must be something different ...

how can i check if i am using data on the sd?
Max 946mb EXT2 Space for lag fix?
i had been go thru the china website abt lagfix, is it can set to max 1.65g for the EXT2 space?
thanks.
nope it depend on you free space.. mine is 1.6ghz i remove does "trashes" or you can back up them to your memory card.. then restore using root explorer
Thanks for ur info. But i think is better wait gingerbread update first, only i decide to do lag fix or not...
hi,
i am running CM 7.2.0 RC5.1 KANG on my galaxy mini.
after fighting myself through endless threads i still cannot find the answer to my question. or maybe i have missed something or it was too complicated for me to understand.
many of those memory increasing posts are only for stock roms.
and i want to increase it with cm7 on the phone. is that possible?
i intend to update to the latest official CM in the near future. would it be easier with a clean install?
please share some information ... i have only 20 MB left
Use any app2sd program you prefer.
Most famous and used are s2e, link2sd, etc
As i was on galaxy mini, i used mebiteks rc0 v0.7 cyanogenmod in combination with link2sd and a 512 mb extended partition. It worked flawless.
Just pic your choice and try.
TIP: Make a backup of your current rom. In case something goes wrong you can go back to last state.
Good luck.
thanks for the quick reply.
i am still a bit confused.
in some threads they write: don't use program X, others say never use program Y and some even say never ever use progam Z.
some members report bootloops, some get instant cancer or die right away.
any clues what works "best" with my rom or do i have to go via K.O. System?
What program works best depends on the rom you use.
I believe S2E works fine on that rom.
sorry, perhaps i didn't make myself clear enough.
i have only 5 apps installed (additionally to the cm7 apks)
the other 60+ programs are installed on the sd card.
my question was: how can i INCREASE the 178 mb ram on the galaxy mini.
let's say ... 1 GB ... that would be fine.
as i have mentioned before, those scripts or progs are available for stock rom only.

Practically speaking, you cannot increase the 178mb internal memory.. that is a hardware limitation.. what we can do instead is alter how android utilize the internal memory. If you want to see 1GB as your internal memory, amarullz and ungaze scripts can do that. You must have a 1GB sd-ext partition on your sdcard for you to use this scripts. Recommend amarullz though coz ungaze makes things laggy.. to know more and how to use these scripts, do a search in the dev section..

By the way, I guess the one that you are referring to as memory hack that are for stock is the work of DOC.cheilvenerd.org..

you go to samsung centre and blame it there...
First take a backup of ur sd card content .. As it will wipe of ur sd card !
Go into cwm - select sd card partition - select how much u want to increase ur internal memory-select swap value 64 mb -and then reboot
This is the easiest way to increase internal memory

Sorry Guys out there , i know this is a ****ing annoying question because people out there are all over to solve this problem and this problem was "SOLVED"
But , i've face a problem , i think i don't need to mention much ?
Galaxy Ace :internal memory around 170mb .
Youtube -9mb
Talkbox - 10mb
Facebook - 19mb (+Data 20-40 mb ) = 50-60 mb ?
Thats enough , thats what i've got for my Ace , i have a Custom ROM like CM7.1
How can i get more internal rom since the data for Facebook are huge for ACE? I saw somebody get around 1gb internal storage for galaxy ace ? But i've tried everything , partition sd ...it almost pwned my sd card ?
Could anyone suggest me a working method even you suggest partition , nevermind , just give me the right method to partition and how to partition sd card please.
Well, there are many ways you can do so.. I would personally prefer using int2ext+. Here you go...
Some Basic Requirements :
1) A rom with init.d support (so that the scripts run on it)
2) Ext partition on your memory card (i recommend ext4)
3) Mini partition tool (for partitioning your memory card)
4) Memory card reader.
Steps:
1) Mount your memory card to your computer using a memory card reader!
2) Backup all you data, the process will wipe your memory card.
3) Open mini partition tool and delete the partition
4)Now you should see all the space as unlocated, create a primary partition which should be fat(if your memory card is less than 4gb) or fat32 (if 4gb or more)
5) Next, use the leftover unlocated space to make the secondary partition ie. Ext4.
6) All set, hit apply.
7) After it all done, copy back all your data to the card.
Using int2ext+ :
1) It is provided as a flashable zip for flashing directly from the recovery.
2) After the fresh install of a rom ( not necessasary but highly recommended) flash it!
And voila, if you followed all the steps correctly, the internal memory should be showing up the same size as your ext partition!
*Note* I AM NOT PROVIDING ANY LINK, SEARCH FOR THEM, IT'S TOO EASY!
PS- There are already many threads with similar questions, use search before posting next time!
I got 2 gig internal using the psn mem mod kernal

Use a different Facebook client like Fast for Facebook, its only 4MB and is way faster. Use an App2SD script if you like.
Despite all the posts and solutions on this subject I must admit a level of frustration at my continuing low internal memory on my HD2, I am running Pacman/ xylograph jb which has plenty of ROM space (most other ROMS take much bigger partitions), Link2SD, Apps2ROM and Clean Master. Link2SD tells me I have no apps on internal, Apps2Rom also confirms all apps either on ROM or SD.
When I look at the storage values I get:
Internal: 146MB used 106 free 40.1
SD card 10.98GB Used 3.91 Free 7.08
SD 2nd partition 3.81GB Used 30.3MB Free 3.77GB
System 260MB Used 177 Free 83.5
Cache 146MB Used 106 Free 40.1
Why is it that despite linking all apps to 2nd partition and having spare space on ROM my internal space is so low, cache is cleaned out every day.
What is using 106MB of internal space?
Any useful thoughts would be appreciated.

Your system partition is way too big, 260mb with 83.5mb free.
You don't need that, 185 mb should be fine for system partition.
Check out the rom thread for recommended partition size.
You can also run roms with DataOnExt. You won't ever run out of memory then. Format an ext4 partition of 1 to 2 GB on your SD card and you have plenty memory.
Or do you have a specific reason to run on Nand?

I agree with this.
DataOnEXT is definitely the best solution for problems regarding running out of memory quickly.
