Seems like a few people on Android Forums are having this issue. Anyone else noticing dust under their screens, especially after keeping the phone in your pocket for a while? Evidently, for those that have the issue, it's noticeable under bright light.
My phone should be in my hands tomorrow or Friday, but obviously I won't stand for dust under the screen. That's something I'd expect with a Razr (which mine suffered from back in the day)... my G1 never had this problem.
HTC SVP c500 (on orange UK) aka HTC Typhoon had the infamous dust problem too.
I have quite a few specs of dust under the glass on the lower left of my screen. May gave to contact Google to see what the replacement policy is.
Grrrr
god I hope this doesnt become a wide spread issue!!! I have no dust under my screen thus far... and I hope it stays that way.
I also have dust under my screen. I called HTC yesterday and they told me that i can exchange it for a new one within the 14 days, but I'll lose my engraving (kinda lame.)
hopefully the next one doesnt have the same problem. Would be nice if there was a way to clean it.

You're better off finding out if it's an issue as early as possible. As soon as I get my phone, I'll be keeping it in my pocket when not in use (though that may be a very limited time). If it gets dust, it's going back.
I keep the phone in it's little case it comes with inside my pocket, takes an extra second to get out but it's only temporary until some companies come out with some sweet cases.

But that won't tell you if the seal around your screen (or wherever the dust is entering from) is defective or not. That's why I suggested "trying" to get dust in early, by keeping it in your pocket at times. If it doesn't get dust, then you're fine.
I don't want to test this out... as soon as my full-body screen protector gets here, it's going on the phone and staying there. No dust for my phone!
i just realized that one corner of my screen makes a clicking sound when i apply pressure to it (bottom right corner). Upon closer inspection i realized the clicking was the screen adhesive not sticking down. I can see the corner of the screen moving verrry slightly under pressure (probably .005" worth of movement) This is also the corner most of the dust is accumulating. It looks like the adhesive they use to hold the glass down is at fault. Hopefully this isnt widespread.
Calling HTC now to demand my exchange! If you have dust under your screen try pushing on the corners.

See below. A full body skin won't help if this is the problem.

This is exactly why I think everyone should take advantage of the 14 days to make sure this isn't an issue.

Just got off the phone with an HTC rep. They set up a "swap" so I'll get my new phone before I have to ship my old one back. Unfortunatly I'll be losing my engraving... oh well.
The rep told me this problem is "known" and they are taking corrective actions.
My phone is being delivered tomorrow. I'm wondering if I should refuse the package and wait until HTC's 'corrective actions' have been applied before I reorder.

It's known... of course. Yeah, the engraving is a small price to pay, especially considering you can get it engraved on your own if you want, albeit for a few bucks.
So the first thing to do when you get the phone is to press down on the edges and superglue the **** out of it XD

LOL That would be an interesting customization...
I'm getting mine tomorrow and from what I read, it will be in my pocket all the time and see if it happens before the 14 days.
Thanks for raising awareness of the issue to us all.
This has been a pretty rampant issue on many of HTC's latest smartphones. My N1 will hopefully arrive sometime this year, they're taking their time shipping it out, but if this is the case, it's going back.

Anyway,it's not easy to get a Nexus One in my country---China.

Indeed it has. One would assume they actually thought about this, proofed the production process/adhesive/whatever, and at least tested some phones before hitting the markets. Oh well, guess they don't.
Crap! I bought it, and I live in Norway! Hope I don't get this problem!
Hi There,
I was wondering if anyone has experience the same issue as me. I only got my Optimus 2x back on the 12th Dec and I've just noticed that the finish on the metal looking plastic surround on the side of the phone has begun to wear.
The phone has spent most of its life in a case and has never been placed in a pocket with anything like (e.g. keys, money) the front and back of the phone are like new, so I'm a little concern with how the finish has begun to wear in such a short space of time.
I just wanted to check if perhaps it's a one off issue with my phone or if other people have had the same problem?
Thanks
Kev
Mine spent all it's life in a gel case and the finish was still A1 when I sold it.
Mine gets **** kicked in my pocket with keys lighters and change with no cover just a screen protector and its still mint Lol must ne something with the case you're usin
Making bad decision's one at a time.
My finish has not even begun to deteriorate.. used it for 8mths already, I've stopped using case for about a month but still use soft cloth cover. Maybe there is something wrong with your finish?
I used to think the same thing, but then i took an arrow in the knee.
Lol jk, i used to think the same thing, but i found out it was the plastic sticker thats on there when its new that was damaged. Sticker removed and its still mint 3 months later

Mines fine, 3 months of heavy use and no wear on the finish except for where I've dropped it and it's scratched. The home button does look a bit buffed like it has micro scratches and has lost its shine on one side though.
I've had mine for about 6-7 months, some paint worn off the first day i got it.
Though only on the bottom left corner, never used any case.
Also managed to get a small scratch on beneath the back button on the first day, even though it never got in contact with anything that could made a small scratch like that.
It might have been there when i got it, never thought about it really... And yes, it was brand new.
Otherwise its in good condition.
Was about to send it back, but never did, stupid summer. Kinda regret it now haha.
Had mine since release date with heavy usage no cover and there's. No wear and tear at all. I also dropped it over 10 times whilst being drunk. It Must've been the cover that damaged yours.

Mine came with free screen bleed and the actual glass seems to have a defect in it, like it isn't entirely clear, has a slight line or something. I wont blame LG for that at all though as corning gorilla made the glass.

Looks like one I've seen on eBay
I'm using mine without a bag or screen protector and it's still close to mint.
LG did a good job on the hardware - it's just this crappy software & support..
Thanks to CM7 I'm really happy with my phone though.
Mine just broke Camera len cover yesterday I really don't know what cause this and anything else still like NEW!

Just cover it with some tape lol
Making bad decision's one at a time.
Its mostly due to the case itself and may not be defect in the phone.
Some cases do wear off some fine finishes...
Thanks all, not sure if it was the case or if I was just unlucky and got one with thin coating. Anyway the supplier has offered a full refund as they don't have any more in stock I don't really want to get a refund as I got the phone for a good price, so I'm just hoping they get a few more in stock over the next week or two and then I can swap it.
Hi Guys,
I was cleaning my phone the other day when I noticed an ackward gap between the screen and phone. I inspected it and I've just noticed the screen is coming off the phone. I had a look around and it's going from the bottom to the top. Has anyone had this problem?
BTW phone is has been in a pouch for 1.5 years and I can confirm has never been dropped. Given the phone is out of warranty what are the chances Motorola will repair this for free???

Man, did you manage to fix your screen? I am having the same problem here, just like you I was cleaning my phone when I realized the screen was coming off on one side. I know its been some time since you posted this but I am just wondering if you managed to fix it.
I saw this problem on other smartphones, you should check your battery, because on iPhones when it happens when the battery push and finally detach the LCD from the frame

Right, it seems to be that issue.
Some early N6 have had battery troubles. Their batteries inflated because of warm which usually makes the back cover taking off.
You seem to have the same problem but pushing the front of the device instead. (back may be well glued)
Don't know if Motorola will take it back. Furthermore, they have been selled to Lenovo since that, so it may be difficult. In Europe, when warranty is over (2 years), you won't get anything from them.
Just stick it back to its position, it's not a big deal. Maybe you'll have to buy some special tape for this.
http://www.ebay.fr/itm/Rahmen-Kleber-Klebepad-Klebefolie-Adhesive-Sticker-Frame-Motorola-Google-Nexus-6-/272109920217?hash=item3f5b03dfd9:g:VH8AAOSwCypWnlXM Something like that. Don't know if it is a special tape or a basic one..
I thought I had a very fine barely noticeable scratch both on the front and back glass. There is nothing in my pocket or where I place my phone usually that would scratch it(plus isn't it gorilla glass 5?).
Anyway, now I look at the back and that very fine scratch has expanded... GREAT, it's not a scratch but a crack. The front is staying put but the back crack is spreading and now split off to form another one. It is very tiny and you have to angle the phone to see it.
This phone has never been dropped. I don't put it in my back pocket. Nothing has ever been placed or dropped on top of it. WTF?
Anyone else have this problem. I doubt this is covered under warranty. I am so pissed. My last couple phones have been disasters. I need to stop buying phones right after they come out... (all though that might not help as the nexus 6p I had didn't have problems for a year. argh! why do phones suck these days)
It sounds like a manufacturer defect. And that's difficult because you have to prove that. Perhaps you can just go into wherever you got it or to a carrier store and talk to them and explain. They might be cool with replacing it.
I've read a lot of posts around talking about how this phone scratches easily. It's actually got me considering putting on a screen protector and I've never done that before.
Could the crack possibly be due to heat causing the expansion of the glass? I'm thinking perhaps the gap everyone talks about on the note 3 note 4 etc models is for that reason. To allow the glass some space when it gets hot.
Just my thoughts.

I have the light leak along the sides, but it is not caused by a gap in the glass. It's the black along the edges of the screen not being all the way to the very bottom.

I have yet to join an XDA forum regarding all the mobiles I have owned in recent years and not found one of these threads.
Some peers actually claim to have had their screen crack overnight while on the bed side table? And so it goes on. Its a mystery?
I have seen an 18" dia ships porthole 1.5" thick get dropped and not break yet overnight while standing in a wooden jig they have broken! Glass is an inherently odd material and I have no idea what you are going to do to resolve this situation? This phenomena can happen but its generally owners who, either known or unkown, break the glass.
Where is the crack? Can you possibly post a photo? This would be invaluable to asses what may have accurd.
This could be difficult for you to resolve. Have you insured it?
Ryland
I noticed I have a crack on the back as well. Been in a case since I got it and no drops, but still a crack. Don't know how it got there, but at least I can't see it

I was on the Verizon support site tonight. There are a small number of people there who are complaining about this exact thing.
Hello All,
I recently bought a brand new Note 9 from John Lewis in the UK and have had it for about 2 weeks now. It's been a great phone with one major issue: whenever I clean the screen with a microfibre cloth using a little bit of downward pressure on the screen I can hear a clear and loud popping/cracking sound. This happens when the phone is both powered on or off, the temperature of the phone makes no difference either and it happens around most of the screen surface, it doesn't seem to matter. Also when I fog the screen with my breathe I can see marks/patterns even if the screen is completely clean. I am not using a screen protector or a case. I am storing it in a pouch.
I did a little digging around online and a few others have had a similar issue too, their issues seems to be when they touch the screen (https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-9/help/experience-popping-noise-pressing-note-t3881671). The consensus seems to be that there might be an issue with the glue/adhesive with the glue possibly being weak or loose.
I contacted John Lewis for a replacement and the second Note 9 has the exact same issue. At least one person who got a replacement got a new unit where the popping was worse and just refunded it.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?
How common is this problem?
I have a owned quite a few phones (no Samsung phones btw) and this is the first time I have encountered this before. I have tried to replicate this on friends and family members phones, who all by chance happen to not own any Samsung phones either, no popping/cracking sound again.
This might be a lot to ask, but if anyone is willing to, can you replicate what I did to see if your unit makes this same popping/cracking sound by using a microfibre cloth and rubbing it over the screen with a little downward pressure? I know it's not something a lot of people naturally do, but it would be interesting to see how common this might be.
Thanks
Yea, I've got the same issue here too. Dint bother to take it to Samsung coz I cant replicate it all the time and the last time I did the the same with a Sony phone for a similar issue, they kept my device with them for 2 days and said its alright.

Can't say for certain. Could be, but I don't know enough about that to confirm that. Best I can say is that if sounds like a cracking or popping sound when I rub over the screen with the cloth with a little bit of downward force.

check if it was refurbished. maybe the screen got repaired ?(not adequately)
anyways just take it back
I had the same problem when I sent my T-Mobile branded Note 9 to the Samsung repair center in Texas. They replaced the camera module because it was having trouble focusing after the software update to Pie. When it came back it had new issues and was returned. After my phone was gone for several weeks I made numerous phone calls to support requesting a replacement since this was the 2nd time I had returned the phone. One day I get an S-pen and an SD tray in the mail... no reason why, no explanation, nothing. More calls to Samsung wanting to know where my phone was or when a replacement or a refund was coming. Two days later a phone finally shows up out of the blue. It has a different IMEI so I guess it's a new phone. Everything works fine but it makes a crinkling noise when you clean the screen.. All tolled, Samsung held my phone hostage for over a month, the returned calls promised from supervisors never materialized, my phone disappeared into oblivion for weeks and I have an extra S-pen , an extra SD card tray and a Note with a crinkling screen. Worst customer support experience ever.
I've had a Note 9 since December that did this occasionally, but doesn't seem to do it any more. Hasn't affected it otherwise.
Probably Vietnamese or Chinese builds.
