this is not really important but i'm just curious to know..
Are there more OB users here that came to the point where they want to buy something new to replace our OB?
I am..
I have had a really great time here on xda and with my OB (unlike many others i was very satisfied with this phone, probably because of the great roms here).
To bad some dev's aren't here anymore..
anyway, i don't have a new phone yet but am looking for one and so far it seems that the Sony Xperia T is going to be my next one.
Why? It looks great, has great hardware en the price is right.. Also something i find very important is that it's easy to root/customise.. (offcourse i want to stay here to get some great custom roms for my next phone).
And Sony seems to be a great phone for custom development.
HTC also has some great models but are harder to customise..
So, are there more people who are looking for a new phone? What are you going to buy and why?
Or maybe you already bought another phone..
Definitely the nexus 4. Easy to customize, easy to root/flash, excellent dev support, amazing hardware, small price. Everything you want. Sony phones are generally difficult to unlock/root cuz of locked bootloader, etc.
And I am also planning to buy the nexus 4, it released officially in India just now.

it's indeed a great phone and here in the netherlands it's already for sale since half april but for me it's way over budget.
Then maybe you should go for a Samsung. They also have unlocked bootloaders, good dev support, and see easy to root/flash/restore. Also, unlike the OB, Their hardware works very decently with custom roms.Afaik most htc and Sony phones have locked bootloaders.

i thought about that too..
also i've done alot of reading on xda to find a phone wich has some good devs.
sony xperia is easy to root/revert/customise, HTC is much more risky..
Xperia T already has some great custom roms and kernels so that's a good thing, you only need to buy a carrier free version so you can unlock the bootloader.
If i want to buy a Samsung within my budget, it will be the Galaxy SII. Also a really great phone but it's old. although it's hardware is quiet good it somehow makes it less interesting. the positive side? it has great support on xda.
one thing that i've read about the SII is that the screen is really good, resolution is lower then the Xperia T but it still seems to be better..
tough choice..
All the best! I don't know much abut Sony, but I've had experience with the Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo V, was a pain in the a** to root....you have to flash an earlier kernel before you root, and then you have to unlock the bootloader....for that you need to use fastboot, flashtool, and whatnot. Y have to flash a custom kernel if you want cwm... so my general opinion about Sony is that it's too much hassle, but that's the only Sony phone I've messed with. And definitely no LG either!
I suggest the Samsung Galaxy SII X. My sister in law just got one. It's hardware is faster/more powerful than the standard SII. I've only played around with it a few times, but it's fast and has a very nice display.
It's probably just as easy to root/install custom ROM's as it is for the standard SII.
Good luck in your search.
I too am thinking about replacing my OB, but not anytime soon. Just seeing what else is out there for now.
we don't have the sgsIIx here, we have sgsII and sgsIIplus (hardware the same) and i didn't choose it. the price is just to high for such old phone.
it's great, yes but it's outdated.. after reading many reviews i've come to the conclusion that the xperia t is much better for almost the same price.
also the xperia t section on xda looks really great and have seen some great roms and kernels.
so, to make a long story short.. i just ordered the sony xperia t and tomorrow it will be delivered.

Hey everyone
My Desire just died last night :-/
And I need a new phone... My question is just:
Should I buy a optimus 2x or find something else in the same price range ??
I have never used an android phone for very long with the original rom.. if it changes anything here...
I ask mostly because when the 2x cam to market, there was a lot of talk about that the phone was a piece of...crap....
is it any better now ?
Best regards
B4Me
Nope and it will never be...HW is solid, and SW will put it to the drain. Just wait for Nexus and you're all good
buy it i never had one problem only the stock rom is a little slow but if you put a custom rom an it, then it will be fast
If price is right i don't see any reason why not to buy o2x. I got mine from local shop for 200€

Then I'll take your word for that its good
as you're a dane, I can reviele, that I'm wobling between buying it from "føtex" og Telmore
2499 dkk right now...
or
3200 dkk over 6 months...
I'm one of the peopple who has had a dodgy phone with BSODs
But I think I'd say.....
If you plan to root and install a custom then yes it's a good phone. (though make sure that if you get a BSOD you get the handset replaced asap).
The custom GB roms out for this phone make it a solid handset.
Though, after the announcement that the Nexus S will receive ICS, perhaps that's a better handset to purchase?
Hardware is awesome, no doubt about that.
Just one thing I dislike about this phone. LG came out with a half-finished OS, and very slow on updates.
Don't think I'll buy a phone from LG again.
I'd personally go for Samsung G II, Galaxy Nexus or Motorola RAZR (if you can get your hands on it)
i just bought this phone a couple of weeks ago, at a very cheap price as well.
But yes, as stated the hardware is quite something and the software is ehh...
So if you dont feel like installing custom roms and would like ice cream sandwich in a couple go the nexus s, it would be your best bet
but on the other hand, you would admire your O2x with the installation of custom roms.
i know i did.
Dont buy it bro!, hardware is good but if you want to prove the newst software you have to stay behind the scenes!! ----) CM7 - toogigi , modaco, and other custom rooms, on the other hand nvidia dont release its code, so that complicate thins, if I dont see progress I will sell my phone and go for something next year!
If you are still undecided watch this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCMT46SYgj4
Its my phone stock but rooted. The video is unmodded to see what that baby can really do
not to buy, i think, or it wil take time to wait for update or return to factory to repair.
It is a good buy.
dont buy. Its a piece of ****. Hardware is pretty good but thats it. Software sucks.
I have this and I can get the Nexus S for same price. Only reason I chose this is for the sd card slot. If you don't need an SD card slot get a Nexus instead. After all the Nexus is how its supposed to be, not these manufacturer tainted versions. If all androids were like the nexus in the first place then very few people would have bothered to develop custom roms for it.
In the end you need to pick which camp you want to be in, the nexus camp with smooth sailing or the lg with false update promises and roms that work better on g2x than on o2x.
My friend got a white SGS2 recently and that phone is beautiful. Despite its large screen that phone actually fits in my hand when I sms and doesnt feel like I'm not having a proper grip. Its super thin and super light and truly sexy.
Don't ever buy an LG device.
Yes and No
As standard, I was ready to smash this phone. it was Laggy, overheated, crashed, rumoured Updates never arrived. I'd had enough.
Then I put Topogigi v2.0 on it. It's like having a completely different phone. Smoother, Faster
The Neoblaze Kernel lets you overclock to 1.4Ghz.
I'm finally liking this phone again

Camera is good with official ROM, not so good with CM based ROMS.
Rather see if you can get Nexus 4. It's in your price range (actually depends on where you are, availability and price differs from country to country) and much better than all your options your considering.
http://www.google.co.za/nexus/4/
Most of those phones you are considering have been on the market a while and the older the device the smaller the community and slower the development gets as people get newer phones. If I had to choose one of them I'd choose the One S, no questions asked. Much faster than the competition, has official JB and is still fairly new.
F*ck Samsung .
Buy Acer cloudmobile s500.
Low-price and high performance... just perfect .
HTC One S no doubt
best dual core, i mean..... cortex a15...maaannn.....that was fast........

Why should I buy an unkown brand in the smartphone community? And I thoguht Sasmung is known for his good wuality cameras / phones
It has been a very good phone for me you know. It has been with me for about one and a half years and it has come over a car crash, fallen into a pool, dropped a lot of times and in one of those it fell from a 1st floor directly to the ground. I had to change the gorilla glass screen which was about 30 us dollars. It has been an adventure and it continues. Camera is not the best but as any other bad mobile camera, it takes very good full light photos. There is still a hell of a development going on. It is just as fast as 80% of optimus 2x stock if you are running zeus rom with cpu at 1350Mhz. Screen has enough brightness, everything is big and legible and we are having official stock ICS modded in some days, actually now. What else can i say? I am not marketing this phone but it is a good buy. If you are looking for a fond working phone this might be your choice, believe me. If you are looking for a fast like hell phone just dont look for LG OB. Hope Ive helped.
PS: getting a GS2 wont hurt...

Sorry to hear that. It went for alot cheaper in some countries.
Desire X is a good choice HW wise. Not as good as the One S, but cheaper and doesn't have as big a screen. (The One S's graphics Chipset will run circles around all the other phones even the SGS2).
If you want a good community, look at previous flagship phones or really good for it's price phones of well known brands (Unknown brands tend to have much smaller communities).
This phone actually has a large Chinese community that doesn't interact with this forum much. I think I'm missing our sometimes since Google Translate can only do so much.
If you can afford it I would go for the One S.
Your Xperia Pro is on par with most of the other phones and I wouldn't pay money to get another similar phone. I don't think a upgrade is necessary actually.
I told ya.. best performance at that price :good: .
It`s released in September 2012, I guess that`s why there`s no developing topic in this community.
I guess they`ll add it to XDA soon, cause it`s a cool phone .
And it`s f*cking better than S2 .

High-end.If you don't mind waiting you could see if the Acer's development picks up before making your final choice.
When buying a phone second hand make sure it hasn't been tinkered and OC'ed and with HTC make sure it's still S-ON that way you know it hasn't been tinkered with.

Yes. I'm not sorry about it, but it's getting old. Quite a few great devs moved on already. Theres still plenty of skill and commitment here though and we might be getting official CM10.1 soon (G+ pictures from official dev has already been posted, but no nightlies appeared yet).
Lol....
No guys, its not the Htc one S.
I went back to Xperia P, again.Yes, first time I got it on summer but traded it for Xperia Pro. Now 4 months without smartphone and of research.. I REALLY regret I was so stupid! [at that time there wasnt any development]
I mean 8mp camera, dual core and handsome: the perfect phone!
Only thing is battery, isnt it replaceble with a 1750 li-on??
If you want long lasting battery, go witg Motorola Razr MAXX lol dunno if its in your price range though. But yeah One S looks superb. Hmm..

Hi,
I am looking forward to buying a new phone (Android). For my currently owned HTC IncS, I am quite satisfied the way custom ROM have turned up. Well, that would remain one of the major criteria for my new phone as well.
Currently I have Samsung Galaxy SIII in mind but I also need advice on which phones are likely to be 'alive' in terms of development around new Android releases, etc.
Note: I searched for other similar topics but none touch on this area

IT depends on what you are interested, screen, nfc, lte...
IDK if samsung has already published the new lte versione of s3 with 2gb ram...
Samsung's end phone has s-amoled display, you'll have to adapt yourself because the difference in colour is huge from out phone ( in worse or better it's personal)
Personally I would like to buy the nexus 4 (best quality/price, but soo much difficult to obtain). time by time I've appreciated android aosp over sense ...
M7 should be a great choose but it's too soon to talk about it...

If you could wait for HTC M7, it's gonna be new flagship phone of HTC. But if you want to buy a phone right now, I suggest Samsung Note 2. One of my friends has that one and it is wonderful. Smooth, fast and graphically outstanding phone.
Just tried out the Nexus 4 yesterday... Holy sh*t!! What an awesome piece of joy!
M7 will probably rock also I'm not sure about Sense 5 though....
SG S IV is coming – with the new ROMs keeping us going for a bit longer on Inc S, this might also be a contender for potential upgraders.
I would consider another thing when buying a new phone: HOW u get s-off'ed or rooted...
I would prefer to root using a bug and "not" voiding warranty, rather than ask asus or htc to unlock my phone and say goodbye to warranty...
I was using Incredible S too until last month when I finally got the Nexus 4. For this price, nothing much can beat Nexus 4 at this moment. The only complain I have is I wish the screen can be bigger......
I played with the HTC Butterfly last week in Taiwan during a business trip. Wasn't very impressed......
I would think in terms of development, SGIII would be a safe choice, although I think Nexus phones are the best in terms of the amount of active and future development since they are the first to get OS updates. The only thing that stops me from getting one is the lack of a removable battery and Microsd storage, which are things I don't want to go without. If those things are important to you, I'd probably go for the SGIII. Just my 2 cents anyway
Xperia Z especially if you are up to serious customisation since Sony is being very very kind to devs now.

Nexus 4 all the way if you can manage to get it for 300$ anyhow !! Nothing really beats this phone in any aspect at this price tag !! If I have unlimited data plan + Dropbox acc then it's ok for the lack of storage. So basically no cons at all
And about the all glass design get some cover and you will be ok.

The way the phones are built for example - I don't like the look of the phones or the way the buttons are set out.
The software and overlay I also don't like.
There's more than just this ^ however when I test the flagship models of Samsung, HTC, Sony and LG, I just don't get the same feel from the Sony and LG as the HTC and Samsung.
But like I said, I just haven't had good experiences with sonys. Saying this though, i haven't used the new Sony phones so they may have stepped up!

technically i suggest for htc or Sony
and cause htc One got delay report it means htc couldn't do so well
SO for nowadays Xperia Z can be ur Zing

If you use your phone for light tasks and not allot, XZ with stamina mode will make you through days.

I like my Xperia Z a lot, but the specs of the HTC One sure are very sexy.
Galaxy S is not my type of phone, it is okay but I prefer the Xperia Z above that one for sure.
Kind regards, Stefan.
Thanks all. Pretty much helped confirm what I already thought.
Although specs of others are looking stronger in areas, I like the quality build and theming of Sony, plus coming from the arc, I know that it will be readily modifiable.
I have come from HTC, and so glad I did. Much more functionality within the Sony phone.
USB Host, Throw, screen mirror connect and display to my tv, laptop... out of the box. Syncing/backing up any parts of your phone/micro SD to PC, none of which exists on any of my HTC devices.
Walkman app with custom eq, blows away any of HTC beats phones for sound quality.
Theming is not Sony's strong suit on this phone, much more customisable with HTC, especially like the grey bars...
IMO, HTC build quality is probably the best out there and always has been. And the release to public OS is more stable and has less issues, eg WIFI, initial setup quirks. But I also think that Sony may have rushed this out to market before the other big guns released there flagship phones for 2013, hence some of what I mentioned about the OS.
Buy the Sony, I am sure you won't regret it. I am happy with almost all aspects of the Xperia Z.
Since your current phone is the Xperia Arc, which is the same generation as my previous phone (the LG Optimus 2X), you might get the same experience that I had. Personally, I am blown away by this phone.
You're on XDA so I am assuming you are fond of the idea of good development support from the manufacturers. This means no to the S4. The S2, 3 note and note 2 are prime examples that samsung exynos devices are more or less the worst thing for development. If you are happy on stock roms then it might be allright.. but then again their stock roms are pretty awful, buggy and laggy. Not to mention the super brick bug.
I wouldn't dream of saying don't get the htc one as I think it should be great. It simply wasn't what I was after (namely water resistance and larger screen).
Development is important to me, I have gone through more roms, kernels and phone brickings that i ever thought I would, and yet the phone is still in one piece!
I am a big fan of Sony phones, despite various issues but then I suppose all phones have flaws...

It depends, from the sound of it, it looks like you're getting the Z on contract which means you can't unlock the bootloader. Whether or not that is an issue is up to you.
That being said I absolutely love the stock software on my phone as it is. I'm a flashaholic and I haven't even unlocked the bootloader yet! I only rooted it to remove the charging notification.
Sony have really stepped up their game with the Z in terms of both hardware and software. It just works, simple. There are a few bugs but they aren't major and hopefully they'll be fixed shortly.
I currently have the Gs3 on Verizon but my contract is up and I am considering the move to T-Mobile (T-Mobile has great coverage where I live.). Im considering getting the Xperia Z. I've always owned a galaxy phone; Vibrant, S2, S3.... My wife has the s4. I'm really getting bored of the galaxy line and don't care for the s4 compared to the s3. I've really been interested in the XZ since it first debuted. Is it worth it? Any advice.
Ps- Don't care for Verizon, they don't have a wide variety of good phone options (IMO).

Do it. Simple as. Phone capabilities with other similar hardware phones so ports become easier. Awesome developers here. Also it's a great, slim and good looking phone.

Go for it. You'll get updates faster than the htc one and the ui is actually beautiful. I learned my lesson.
only downside is bootloader is unlockable and it seems there is no dev around that is willing to put in the work to unlock it. so that means no custom kernels no cm,aokp,or p.a. but if that isnt a deal breaker for you its a GREAT piece of hardware with a great ui:good:

Not really faster ... it took how much 4 months for you to get 4.2.2 and its still buggy , for one took 2 months and it's still the most optimised device ever existed , one word lag free .. as for ui isnt the sense acclaimed best looking skin.... anyway won't go into debate with you it's more of a personal preference.
@ op
I'd suggest you to take a look at what you need from the phone then choose the device that suits your needs.
Either way xz is a great device.

im pretty sure i said at least... and i have wifi bluetooth nfc and throw on all day long. thats more than enough battery for the average user and i have got 50+ hours with over 4 hours screen time. if you dont have anything productive to say you should just keep it to your self bro
If you have the money and can wait a month or 2 than do that as Xperia Honami is coming that is most likely going to be unveiled in the beginning of September. It is however gonna be significantly more expensive when it comes out as most top phones are. Otherwise I can tell you that it is a great phone and waterproofing has already helped me save my phone once, any other would need a replacement. Check out my video, maybe it will help you decide as well
Depends upon how you use it
Sony xz - if you need a classy lukin phone
Htc one - if you use your phone for texting cos as far as I used, I feel the screen is too big to handle .and loudspeaker of xz is a way lower than htc one. Super lcd is better than tft.

Gotta have the water resistance that XZ offers. Dropped mine in the toilet after taking a dump (yeah - gross, I know)
Rinsed it, dried it and good as gold
Imagine if that happened with HTC 1 or some other device?

My previous phone was the Samsung Galaxy S3 and to me, that phone had one good thing - battery life. Otherwise, it was overhyped and not worth the money that I rather could lay on one of the other 2012 high / middle end phones back in november last year. However..
The Sony Xperia Z C6603 is one hell of an well built beast and the dev-support is pretty outstanding.. CM, PA, AOSP / AOKP and a lot of good stock based custom ROMS. Hey, we even got Doomlord that is bringing extended functionalities to the Z with his Doomkernel, that is worth the money all alone
Go with the Xperia Z, dude!
