Google talk will not stay signed in, or is randomly disconnecting and reconnecting later. I've checked my sync and power settings it shouldn't be an idle issue or data connection problem because i have full signal. I didn't have this issue with the Aria?
anyone else having this?
So am I the only one? Did I get a defective device?

is it giving you any kind of error message? I had that problem ALL THE TIME with my blackberry torch. It kept logging me out saying internal error. That's honestly one of the reasons i got the android. So google apps would work right. I've not had any issues with my google talk. Have you tried logging in with another account just to see if it makes any difference?

no error at all, i lauch the app and it either greys out and i have to back out and lauch again to get the signing in message or i get the signing in message.
I never had these issues with my Aria, i wondered if this version (with the camera/voice options) might have a bug?
tried multiple accts same issue.
i called HTC and the guy said hit home screen instead of backing out of the app to force it to keep running but that did no good. he also asked if i had a task manager and I said only the htc one that came with the phone. He said android comes with that now???? anyway i told the htc one to not start on startup just to see if that was causing any issues but no change.
i still randomly get disconnected from gtalk.
I don't know what to suggest then, that's strange Until we get root it'd be kind of hard to "mess up" an app like that. So I have no idea why it won't stay connected. Maybe take it into an AT&T store, show them, and ask for a new one? IDK if that'd work or not...

no, i don't use that.
in fact, i went through all (i could find) htc/android setting making sure it wasn't a power setting turning off my data or something crazy like that.
Been having the same issue on my inspire for months. Annoying as hell. Tried clearing data and everything else. Just have to live with it.

I have had the same issue since day one.
Google Talk won't stay signed in except on wi-fi
I have a Galaxy S II w/ ICS 4.0.3 on T-mobile and have the same issues. I have done a master reset and have the issue still. I have 3 accounts on G Talk and all sign out when using network only but will stay signed in on wi-fi. It's annoying. I have also tried unchecking the "Away when screen off" box and still no luck.
I've moved on from the Aria, the Vivid and the S3 has not had this issue with me.
Hey guys. First of all, I do have a working connection, but there's one problem though. Whenever my phone is on mobile data, some apps just work weird.
Gtalk: I am signed in, chatting with someone, then I put the phone away for a few minutes. The next time I check Gtalk, it is offline. It doesn't even want to get online until I turn 3G off and back on or I restart the app, then it works for a while (random) and then happens again.
Facebook: I browse the news feed and at some point (random) when i reach the bottom of the page and it should load the earlier posts, it just rolls the little circle but nothing happens. Closing the app and restarting it solves the problem, but again, temporalily.
Life is Magic (game): It can hang anytime between loading the levels or whenever it needs data connection.
Whenever these things happen, and I fire up the browser, it works... but despite that, Gtalk still wouldn't go online until I restart it. This happened on every every JB (LPY,LPQ,LQB) so far. I am using CoCore kernel, no other mods.
Thanks for help or any ideas!
Same problem here with gtalk . It has been offline on all version and combination of JB and kernels.can someone provide me stock gtalk app.so that I can re install

you can download a google apps package from here: http://goo.im/gapps
i tried that one too though, still the same. the problem is with the way certain apps using mobile networks, i believe. it doesn't happen on wifi.
Guys, really no one else uses Google Talk?
Still, I believe the problem is with 3G.
Yeah, like you guys said, this happens to me on every official firmwares and only when I'm on 3g. (Just noticed now that you guys mention it)
I had to turn off and on the 3g for it to be active again. I don't use gtalk but it happens with gmail, stock email, fb, xda-app and tapatalk too among others.
As mentioned, it's totally random and usually happens when left by itself for a while. Until now, the only workaround I used is like you guys, just to turn it off and on again.
Until now I thought it was a problem with my ISP but guess it wasn't.
Sent from my GT-I9070 using xda premium
probably not. but still, turning it on and off doesn't solve the problem because Gtalk goes offline after a while and I don't receive messages which is the whole pont
also, facebook app stops refreshing the news feed as I scroll down...
up...
does anyone have a solution yet? are there others affected?
UPDATE: i went back to Gingerbread thinking that it will solve my problem. But that just doesn't happen, gtalk goes offline, i am not getting facebook messages etc,etc...
I think I should take this phone to the service.

Should i update the zip using recovery or can I individually install the app i want
So I searched and was not able to find anyone complaining on not receiving push notifications (whatsapp msgs, Gmail, Facebook messages etc) when the screen has been off for 10 minutes or more either on wifi or mobile data.
It has been happening to me since day one and it is surely not a Smartsync issue like we had on the HOX as it also happens during the morning.
So to explain better, if my phone's screen has been off for about we 10 minutes or longer then no push notifications come. Instead they are all flooding in as soon as i turn the screen on again.
Of course i have the power saver turned off, wifi sleep policy to never turn off, automatic sync on etc.
Please note that this happens both on wifi and mobile data. In fact the situation on mobile data i believe is even worse.
Anyhow below is a nice thread about the exact same problem.

Hmm, have you tried going to the "Accounts & sync" section and then checking each account individually
to make sure that sync is enabled for each one. Even though Auto sync is on, some accounts may need to be enabled manually.
I find i have to do this after restoring from a Titanium backup otherwise nothing syncs. Just make sure the sync icon is highlighted for all of them...

What about "Power Saver"? There are four separate things Power Saver does (and you can choose which are actually activated) - one of them is to turn off the data connection when the screen is off. (This is a separate setting from "sleep mode").

Well i do have this problem. I have all the settings correct but mails and whatsapp wont sync at times for an hour or so. Sometimes it works well and sometimes it does not. ive tried using different roms but its the same.
If your phone is rooted try wiping data for "Google Services Framework" and Play Store, wipe cache and dalvik cache, remove your accounts, reboot, re-add your accounts and wait for it to sync.
Let us know the results.

This. I had this problem before too and tried a bunch of stuff and it went away. The problem is i dont know what fixed it, but it was one of these things in the post. Also try deleting all your saved wifi networks, and connecting to them again.
This solution will come with consequences tho. Google Services Framework (GSF) is responsible, besides other things, for C2DM which basically is "push notifications".
Most of Google apps as well as other apps receiving notifications rely on C2DM. Reseting the data for GSF will most probably solve the issue but bear in mind that you also might need to clear data for apps relying on GSF. That means setting up apps like Whatsapp, Viber, Gmail, Facebook, Twitter etc. from scratch.

Ι've started having problems with push notifications since a couple of days.
I'm not sure what's going on but it's frustrating.
I've googled around and I've seen various problems, especially in the Nexus 4 and some older HTC phones. It seems to be more of an Android problem than a model specific. Various solutions are proposed but with no apparent success (except using an app that wakes the wifi, but needs rooting).
I'm full stock with nothing fancy.
Situation:
Wi-Fi on - No Power Saver, WiFi Always On, No Sleep Data etc
After about 10 minutes give or take with the screen off Whatsapp, Hangouts, Facebook messages etc come with a big delay.
Only Viber seems to work perfectly. I've tried various times and each time the messages I sent to myself from other phones or the PC came with a delay of about 5'-10' with the exception of Viber.
I still haven't tested this with other wifi networks.
I'm almost sure that this delay is relatively new. If the phone "wakes", then the messages are instantly delivered.
3G on
Although I haven't tested it that much, it seems that everything works fine when using Data connection.
Any ideas? Are there any other options on the phone that I should try toggling?
Ι believe that WA, FB and Hangouts were updated these last days or am I wrong?
I am able to get push notifications using Exchange Activesync with a Google Apps gmail account, through the HTC One stock email program.
However, setting up my personal gmail account in the gmail app, I get no push notifications whatsoever, I have to manually check the app to receive my emails, which is pointless...
I have checked all my settings and I can't see anything amiss, this hasnt worked since purchase, but its beginning to really grind on me, as I need to know if I have an email...
Could anyone assist?
LG 70 works now...

I know it's not its thread but, auto sync was turned off in my LG70,as soon I turned it on the notification issue got solved, now I'm able to receive messages when screen off. Thanks!!!
I'm experiencing problems with Gmail and whatsapp: whenever I'm on my home wifi the push does not work. But more problematic, sometimes it does work. Next to that when I go into whatsapp after a day of no messages they all arrive at once.
So I'm able to receive messages and Internet works, but the push services doesn't work most of the time! I'm not on stamina mode or any other battery app (BTW battery of my z1 is worse than my sp).
Does anyone have an idea how to find out if there's a culprit or what settings I've messed up?

To my look like the Auto-Sync is OFF so turn it ON. If is already ON probably Gmail and Whazzuppe is not in the list so you have to addict it manually + Add Account.

Thanks for thinking with me, though that is not the case! Sync is on and it works perfectly on other wifi networks.
I can report a more peculiar fact: pinging google.com with Fing results in 100% packet loss, though pinging for example tweakers.net gives me an average of 40msec. Strangely I can brows to www.google.com in Chrome... It seems as though there's something very wrong with my Z1 because pinging Google.com with my Xperia SP does work!
Any news on this?
I'm experiencing the exact same problem. It has been around for at least a couple of months on my Nexus 4.
Most of the times I don't receive any push notifications. I need to open the app manually, wait a couple of seconds, and then all the new messages come in.
Here is what I tried so far:
- Notification settings for each app
- Reinstalled complete OS
- Background data is allowed
- Wifi policy is "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" -> Always
- I don't have any battery savings or task killer apps
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2599417
I also tried this, and now I only have the OS and Whatsapp installed. But the problem persists.
I have the same problems since KitKat.
Sometimes I have to open the app to become the messages.
I had this problem with 681, then I done a full wipe and installed the 757 rom.
But i also have this problem....
So as it turns out, the problem only exists in my wifi at home.
When I'm at the university everything works fine.
I also noticed that facebook and instagram are very slow on my phone at home.
And only the apps, not the websites.
(this also has been around for a couple of months)
Having the same issue with my HTC M8. Guess I just have to find out what settings are causing this on my router.
Edit: Fixed it. My VPN's DNS servers were blocking push. Changing them back to googles DNS brought push back.
Actually, I was also facing the problem. I tried to get it solved by uninstalling all the recently downloaded apps, but it didn't work for me. And I couldn't uninstall all the apps.
Then I got the idea that it may be because of some setting on my router. I don't know much about router settings. So, I finally installed the VPN App Opera Max and it worked. It was a big relief for me.

Max does not change DNS settings so in theory it shouldn't fix this issue. It's possible that your issue was unrelated to this one.
This is a weird issue, and I can't seem to figure it out. When I'm on my home network, I have really, really terrible lag with Facebook's mobile app *only on my phone*. I mean, it takes about 10 minutes for a pic to load. Any other app (on my phone) that connects to Facebook will lag really bad connecting to FB, as well. I've got Comcast and Speedtest will give me >100Mb/s on my desktop, hardwired to the router, and my phone will usually give me >50Mb/s. I've got an ASUS RT-N56U router, so I don't think that's the issue. I've tried both 5GHz and 2.4GHz, and they both have the same issue.
If I use the FB app on any other wifi network, or 4G, it works just fine. Any other tabs, iPhones, laptops, etc. work fine on my home network.
The thing is, it wasn't always like this... When I first got Comcast set up, everything worked fine. The problem seems to just have happened one day, and the only thing I changed on my phone was installing Transparent Weather Clock. Of course, I tried uninstalling it and seeing if anything changed, but no luck.
I am on 4.3 NB4, rooted.
Any help is appreciated! TIA!
Have you tried wiping the Facebook app data or uninstalling and reinstalling it? I've had funky problems with the Facebook app in the past and wiping the data or a fresh download from the Play Store always fixed it.
Thanks for the tip... I tried that, but ended up with the same results. Did a data wipe, then tried erasing FB completely and then re-installing.
I mean, the baffling part is that the app and all things connected to it work fine everywhere else... Even on much, much slower internet connections. I can't figure out why it works so poorly on my home wifi, when all the other devices work just fine.

You have a external sd? If so go in there and go to Android/data/ and see if files left over for Facebook in there. If so delete them. Then in app manager go to Facebook and clear everything you can. then uninstall. Clear cache. Reboot. Reinstall. See if it works

An update... I don't believe the problem is isolated to Facebook. Facebook just happens to be the most bandwidth intensive app on my phone. Other Internet services run more slowly on my home network than elsewhere. Maybe this will solve some mystery. I am starting to think it's a router setting.
