The problem in my TV
Thank you!
I just received by Chromecast today and I have an older TV. I am using an HDMI to DVI converter so no sound is being transferred.
Would it be possible to keep audio playback on the controlling device instead of the TV?

Not that I know of. You could get an audio adapter, but it would cost more than the device. Best bet is that we can get a client ready for the Raspberry Pi, and that can use 3.5 audio.
I doubt it. The clever bit about the Chromecast is that *it* decodes the incoming stream; once started you can turn off "the controlling device" & everything will continue to run undisturbed.
To decode the incoming stream and send the video to HDMI but redirect the audio portion as an outgoing stream to another device...
I suspect that is too much of an edge case.
Your setup, as it stands, appears incompatible with how the Chromecast operates. I'd look into returning the Chromecast as unsuitable, resell it, or invest in DVI+audio out hardware or go HDMI.
Your Milage May Vary.

Might be able to use a USB sound dongle if root will let you. So I guess keep some hope alive.

Looks interesting. Do you know how it handles the signal timings? That will determine how compatible the device is with VGA devices. Not all devices that accept VGA will accept video 720p or 1080p resolutions correctly displayed and centered.

Well he was already using a DVI adaptor so chances are likely he will not have many issues displaying 720 or 1080 since any monitor with a DVI will in most cases do well above those resolutions....
but the problem he is going to run into is that things like Netflix are probably going to require HDCP which he won't get with that device.
And no converter device or adapter available will ever get him the HDCP.

What happened? I decided to try to play video content with the one video that I had no problem. On my Samsung TV got a popup stating that a AllShare device was detected, I click okay, video plays in like a player window format, I back out to folders from my tablet showing! My source shows AllShare BubbleUPnP device. Confused but happier!

The new Koushcast? No, I read that Chromecast support was removed.
I think I know what happened. I have a Samsung WiFi adapter plugged in but have used it on a old laptop and it was plugged into USB port that might be a service port or whatever. I discovered that since using AllCast and never tried it again since. BubbleUpnP is just using WiFi to stream although I couldn't get back to my folder with the videos unless I used AllCast to start a video.
I've tried BubbleUPnP in the past but remember next to nothing! Navigating folders on the TV is a PITA, I do remember that.
The author of BubbleUPnP did mention supporting Chromecast in the future. At first I thought that they did, my mistake. Make that two mistakes!
I powered down/up, I was able to play compatible videos with the Chromecast that start with a good delay without using BubbleUPnP just AllCast. Videos that don't play with Chromecast from an Android device won't play using Chrome on a PC either nor cast.
Compatible videos is the key to success.
Interesting! I was hoping you had magically solved Android screen mirroring with Chromecast - my TV is too old to support DLNA video, only pictures and music.

I may have had my Samsung WiFi adapter plugged into the right USB port after all! I tried to access my PC from the TV and I had no connection because the setup was changed from a wireless connection back to wired again. This means that the use of BubbleUPnP, Allcast or Chromecast hoses the setup. I tried to use each one but couldn't get it to repeat. Some TVs comes with WiFi built in, I wonder if this is a issue with them or just because in my case, I was using an external WiFi adapter?
BubbleUPnP updated for the second time today, must have introduced a bug earlier.

Chromecast has its own wireless connection to your wireless router or access point, so I can't think of a reason why Chromecast would have any interaction with the TV's network connection.
Am I following you correctly that you have a wired network connection on your TV and the wireless USB adapter connected to your TV, and both are connected? If the wired connection on the TV is hooked up there should be no need to have the WiFi adapter as well, unless you have a really complicated network setup.
As long as both the TV and your DLNA source are on the same network, doesn't matter whether one is wired or the other is wireless. Unless something like AP isolation keeps the wireless clients from "seeing" the wired clients (uncommon), or the wired and wireless networks are on different subnets (rare).
tl;dr - try unplugging either your TV's WiFi adapter or the network cable on the TV. Do whatever is necessary to make the single connection work - and then try everything else. Everything should work.

Yes the Chrome cast has its own WiFi connection.
I have either the wired or wireless option but there is no wired connection to it that's why I had to get the Samsung WiFi adapter.
I was able to switch back/forth several times between DLNA(BubbleUPnP), TV WiFi and Allcast without losing any of them. I have no idea how or why but it did happen "once" or actually "twice".

Ahh okay, I misunderstood. I thought your TV had a wired connection too.
It's possible the Chromecast and Samsung WiFi adapter are too close and therefore causing signal interference, so the Samsung WiFi adapter might have went back into a disconnected mode and the TV wanted it set up again. *shrug*
Worst case you could get a USB or HDMI extension cable, I guess. I have a ~10-foot HDMI extension cable on my Chromecast because it's connected to my sound bar's I/O box. At first it was to troubleshoot the Internet connectivity problems I was having (which were fixed with update to 13300), then I decide to leave it as it's much more convenient to access my Chromecast when I don't have to contort myself behind stuff, heh.

Just got my HDMI 90 adapter today, see what happens next to me?
The Samsung adapter is no cheapy from what I've read about it. No PC drivers for it but I researched its chip and managed to hack a INF for use on my old XP laptop, IIRC it comes up as a Linksys device.
Hello,
Today I got my brand new Google Chromecast, I don't have a tv here, but I have a computer monitor and decided to connect it to that.
My monitor is an Asus VX238T (it only has VGA and DVI) and I'm using a KONIG KN-HDMICON26 to connect the Chromecast to the monitor (the convertor works ok when connecting a Sony PS4 to this monitor). When I first connected the Chromecast I get the boot screen and then the screen goes black.I looked online and it seems to be a HDCP problem, but on the Asus website it says that the monitor is hdcp compatible.
Is there an issue with the Chromecast device or simply my monitor is not compatible with it?
Best regards,
Tibi
PS.: I hope it's ok to post here, I couldn't find any better place.

HDCP requires a Digital connection to the Monitor...The VGA adapter is converting your digital HDMI to Analog VGA.
You need to get a HDMI to DVI converter and then the Monitor HDCP can be recognized.

According to the specs your monitor is natively 1080p and it is also HDCP-compliant. You shouldn't need the Konig converter which says it outputs "UXGA 1080p" whatever that is... UXGA=1600x1200, WUXGA=1920x1200, 1080p=1920x1080...
As @Asphyx says, just connect Chromecast via an HDMI-to-DVI-D adapter and it should work without any extra equipment, conversion or degradation.

Yes and Thank You for pointing out it really is just a connector that is needed not an actual Device that converts because the signals are pretty much identical only the PInout and connector type are actually different.
Radio Shack, Fry's or any computer store should have an adapter for no more than $10.
You may even find them on Ebay for a few dollars less.
One issue you might have is audio, however... Depends on if/how your device handles audio over DVI-D. If it doesn't handle audio, you'll need an HDMI audio extractor between Chromecast and the display in order to get audio output.

AppRadio Unchained Rootless allows full mirroring of your phone from your AppRadio. This means that any app can be controlled from the head unit screen and not just a few that are specially adapted.
AppRadio Unchained Rootless is available from the Play store here: AppRadio Unchained Rootless
The user's manual is available here: User's manual
For this app to work Android 7 or higher is required. As Android 7 only allows to inject complete gestures, a gesture has to be completed first on the head unit before it will be dispatched to the phone. It works similar to record and playback. Suppose you need to do a long press of 2 seconds, first press for 2 seconds, once you lift your finger it will be dispatched and replicated on the phone where it will take 2 seconds as well. It's recommended to only do things that take a short time so there won't be too much delay.
Important
The 'Smartphone setup' on the head unit needs to be set correctly for Android as by default it's configured for Iphone. Go to Settings->System->Input/Output Settings->SmartphoneSetup and set Device to 'Others' and Connection to 'HDMI'. See this video: Smartphone setup
Any other AppRadio related app needs to be uninstalled as this blocks the connection to AppRadio Unchained Rootless.
AppRadio mode requires that your device is connected to the HDMI input of the head unit. Depending on the device this can be done with a MHL / Slimport / Miracast / Chromecast adapter. This app supports automatic connection to wireless screencasting devices. Since Google API doesn't support this directly it is done via the phone's GUI. Note that only the phone's built-in screencasting capabilities can be used.
Because this app may not work for your setup there's an extended trial period of 48 hours. In order to claim this simply request a refund within 48 hours after purchase by emailing the order number to the support email address.
Supported head units: any AppRadio that supports Android AppMode via HDMI.
For example: SPH-DA100, SPH-DA110, SPH-DA210, SPH-DA120, AVH-X8500BHS, AVH-4000NEX, AVH-4100NEX, AVH-4200NEX, AVIC-X850BT, AVIC-X950BH, AVIC-Z150BH, AVIC-6000NEX, AVIC-6100NEX, AVIC-6200NEX, AVIC-7000NEX, AVIC-7100NEX, AVIC-7200NEX, AVIC-8000NEX, AVIC-8100NEX, AVIC-8200NEX
Units that have AppRadio mode via USB (a.k.a. AppRadio One) are not supported.
Android 7 Bluetooth bug
If during connection 'Accept thread error' is displayed this is not because of a bug in the app but due to a bug in Android 7.
It can be fixed by disabling BT background scanning: Go to Settings -> Location, in top right menu click Scanning -> Bluetooth Scanning.
The following features are supported:
- Multitouch
- AppRadio buttons
- GPS data transfer via mock locations (only works with head units that have a GPS receiver)
- Wake lock
- Rotation locker (to put any app in landscape mode)
- Real calibration
- Start on HDMI detection (for use with phones and HDMI adapters)
- Notifications to indicate connection state
- Diagnostics
- Automatic Bluetooth toggle for improved connection
Beta test version
The beta test version has the latest features but can also contain bugs.
You need to become a tester of the AppRadio Unchained Rootless app to be able to get it.

The S8 was confirmed working, the AVH-8500BHS is supported. Only thing I am not sure about is the Samsung wireless dongle but if it doesn't work a recent Miracast like the Actiontec Screenbeam mini 2 or the Microsoft wireless adapter V2 should do the trick.
For the S8 there's also a wired option. Somebody is using this and it says works well:

The video is via the HDMI input of the head unit and touch goes back via Bluetooth. The S7 doesn't support MHL so a wired connection isn't possible. What works is to cast the screen via a Miracast adapter like the Screenbeam Mini 2 or the Microsoft wireless adapter V2.
I am using my S8+ with rockscout and it is working pretty good. It is a little lagged and the screen is in portrait mode as opposed to landscape. What more will this app do. I am willing to buy it but I just want to know what make this better. I am just using a USB-c cable plugged into the back of the Appradio 4 so that might be a limitation at the moment.

I just loaded Appradio Unchained Rootless on my Verizon S8. I'm using the free Nova launcher. I have a Pioneer 4100 NEX, using the cables and HDMI converter that was recommended in another appradio thread (Towabo USB3.1 Type-C to HDMI adapter). The firmware in the Pioneer was just updated to 1.09. The 4100 is installed in a 2012 jeep JK using a PAC canbus adapter and a micro bypass.
Now appradio seems to work, set the input to other-HDMI and then expanded the screen to fit. I can control the phone from the radio BUT everytime I change to appradio, I lose sound from whatever I was using, be it Sirius, HD radio or the SD card. I have a friend that has the same setup but he's on a Dodge RAM and not on a canbus link. He had audio and can then bring up appradio and keeps his selected audio playing.
From the radio end, we are the same firmware, same HDMI adapter, same cables and feeding the adapter from a 2A+ dedicated USB-C cable. The only difference is he has the paid version of Nova Launcher and I have the free version.
I figure it's something I missed. Anyone have any suggestions?
