Have you done your return?
Remember to mention "zero gap" as much as possible lol. that is a major selling point/feature for the phone.
Just returned my 1 day old Silver 64GB model back to Harvey Norman, had a short talk with the manager when he produced his 64gbH1 and showed me the similar gap (not as gapped as the one I purchased) at the top saying it was normal and didn't worry him. I gently argued and showed him my flawless black 32gb version he then asked me to show my receipt and just as he asked my device shot out of his hands and slapped the ground hard.
Amazingly not a scratch and the device was actually thrown a meter or two caused by he and sales assistant trying in vein to catch it, hehe I felt bad for 1 seconds then realised they are definitely issuing a refund now(however, he said regardless he would issue the refund).
The capacitive buttons were hit and miss and gap at the top was definitely going to inherit foreign matter(screen and speaker grill alignment was flawless as was volume rocker and power button), excellent customer service all round, also Harvey Norman have the 64gb model for only $785 for a limited time.

I honestly don't think you should return it... This is the kind of stuff that hurts HTC. The phone is not defective or broken. It has a small gap that does not affect you in any way.
The power button was never clicky for 4 HTC Ones that I have in my family... And even if that's messed up, it doesn't affect any of us... This is kind of unethical if you ask me.

He should return it! One of HTC's selling point is the "zero gap" technology. Having a gap is bad manufacturing. And if his paying money for it he should return it. HTC shouldn't make such claims if they can't produce it. I love HTC and always been a supporter of them but I can't support bad workmanship.

A mate of mine returned his 64GB from HN and the manager said the gap is normal too. We then pointed out that their display model had no gaps. The manager gave him a refund after that.

So pretty much I ordered my nexus 7 right when it was announced, and due to a shipping error Google wanted another 8 weeks to get it to me from release so I canceled my order. Being the impatient idiot that I am I went and bought a new one off eBay. I am aware of the screen separation issue and it seems that it is affecting my unit on the left side of the screen. It annoys me a bit but I'll live. But my question is will the screen separation slowly get worse and spread? I haven't found a very clear answer.
I would say yes. Mine was 100% fine when I got it, 11 days ago and now has lift and creaking. Seems not as responsive. Sounds like bad first batch

Hmm I really hope that isn't the case with mine because I don't think I'll be able to get Google to replace it because I bought it from eBay. I haven't noticed much of change with mine from day one, but it'd be nice to hear responses from a few other people so I know how screwed I am hahahaha

I got 2 defective N7's....returned them. My plan is to wait until the 2nd "batch" with no defects. Maybe in few months, I will try again.
You should probably return and do what I (and many others), are doing. Wait.
My thinking was, I paid $275 for this, and its defective. Did I come looking for a perfect tablet? Yes. Not a defective one. Its really your call, but I can tell you the problem won't get any better.
Cheers
Mine was just noticeable on day one, within days the screen was visibly moving just by handling the tablet.
So there is every chance it will get worse so I would say get it replaced.
By the same token, there is every chance a replacement will have the same problem and just as much chance that you will get a perfect unit that develops a fault later on.
Suppose it's down to what yo are prepared to put up with.
Personally, if it turned out every unit in the world had a problem I would live with it and just try to find a fix but knowing that there ARE perfeclt good units out there makes it harder to live with.
I'm planning on getting a warranty from squaretrade for the tablet. Mine is fine but just in case something develops down the line I like to have peace of mind
Eh. $40 for a $200 device seems a little much.
kinda off topic but
my screen started something very strange today..
it has these little lines about 1/2 inch long running up and down it at random locations. It looks kinda like some type of render tearing. When you twist the tablet from side to side they kinda glow then go away. They look off shades of the colors being produced by those pixels.. I just noticed this thread and thought i would post here instead of starting another Thread.. Hope you do not mind.
Its so faint i cant get a picture of it at all. Sorry about this.. My question is has anyone ever seen anything like this.. It reminds me of the grid if code on matrix but its not that bad . its always at the same position until you power off then they are right back but different / random locations. They are not lined up in any way except it runs same directing. vertically
.
.
Didn't notice it until I turned up the brightness (I just bragged about having a flawless device less than a minute ago) and I noticed dark spots in the screen.
I'm going to call them up and see what they say. Sucks. It doesn't look like much, but it's very obvious when scrolling since it doesn't move with the rest of the screen. Only the circled area is affected. It looks like a dead pixel at first, but it's much bigger and has a "blur" around it.
Pics?

Through Google directly. They are handling the devices themselves for the time being. Not like with the SGN and Nexus 7 devices, where you had to go through Samsung or Asus directly.
Google is probably handling RMA's for now, but later on it will be handed over to LG With crappy support, and they will ask you to pay shipping.
I thought RMA's for Nexus devices were always done by Google?

The RMA process with Google is very good. I had to send two Nexus 7s back and it was an easy process. The only issue I had was that I didn't receive a TNT shipping label with my first replacement so I actually had 3 devices for 2 days while I waited for the shipping label.

You need to return it in "good" condition (scratches are fine, but no cracks). Software wise, mess with it all you want, then
Code:
fastboot -w update "Devices Image from Google"
fastboot oem lock

I'm planning to purchase from staples. I have hundreds in staples gift cards to use. Any date/revision or later I should ensure I buy?
Wanted to bump this for information as well. Looking to purchase one for Christmas and purchase one for my grandpa who is having a slowly deteriorating processing condition.
Have the build issues been resolved?
I think they reduced the problems but never got rid of them. It's always hit or miss. I have an original model without problems, a friend has a c70 with squishy power button and another friend has c80 without problems. Don't worry, if there are problems just take it back to staples.

The one that I got on 29 October from Staples got the screen lift issue after 2 days. It had the serial #C09K (September built). I returned it and then got another one from office depot and so far no issue with the build quality. This one had the serial #CA0K (October built).

I have the latest CA0K and I notice a slight difference between the left and right side. The right side is flush against the silver trim and the left is like 0.1mm raised, it is hard to see. I can feel the difference by running my finger over the trimming where it meets the display. I might exchange it later when there is newer revision again since I have until January to return
Have a CB0K, which I assume is a newer model...has screen lift. :/
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I bought a C07K in August which has a minor screen lift. I just bought another one CB0K model. Screen is perfect, but back cover where screen lift located is loose when you push it you can hear a creaking noise. So I exchanged it for another one CA0K model. This one is so far so good, solid built.
I think I will wait for like a CC0K model or something. I'm not sure if mine is even classified as screen lift as it's less than a 1mm difference but the display is a little recessed on every other edge so I assume it's not normal for only the left side to be a little higher.
Bought my Nexus 7 32gb model from a local walmart with first part of the SSN is C90K. Don't even see any screen lift on the device least that I can see anyways. I had the device for 3 days now and have not found any issues with it yet.
You can try running your finger nail slowly to each edge, the silver trim has a very slight elevation that should barely stop your finger nail from sliding up and over it kind of like a galaxy nexus. It's a subtle detail on the nexus 7

Because I bought it imported from USA , I checked calling ASUS that it has 1 year International warranty. So mine is also C9OK ( O letter , not 0 zero , ASUS explained that to me through their systems ) and its perfect. It came with 4.1.1 version preinstalled

Not 0.1mm but 1mm. How am I complaining? I am just stating what I see. I had my nexus for 2 weeks and I don't want to end up with what could develop into something more serious thus I may exchange it. No, I do not want to fix it any future problems myself and void the warranty. You are complaining about me being detail oriented. There's hardware revisions for a reason. I'm not saying my nexus 7 has a definite flaw that's why I discuss about it for more input.
Soon I paid for my Nexus 7 I told the cashier. I told the cashier I was going to open up the package and look at the device here in the store. I told them about the known issues with some of the batches. Turned the device on I bought right in the store and checked the whole thing out.
After looking it all ever turned out my device it good and solid.
I contemplated not writing this. In tech sometimes we require so much perfection, we forget what's actually important to us. Furthermore we forget that any software issue can be conquered by the great devs here at XDA. With the fear of sounding hypocritical, here's why I found myself going back to the HTC One after a short two week affair with the S4.
I had very real issues with my silver HTC One. The S4 was the answer to those issues. After a couple weeks with the S4 I really missed one thing about the HTC One - the camera. I have 2 babies and after missing several pictures of them over the past couple weeks I became very frustrated with the slow launch and slow picture taking of the S4. I was enjoying all the other features but this was beginning to stick in my crawl. So I really researched the issues I was having with the HTC One. I found out that the brightness quick toggle was solved through Viper Rom and menu button was easily mapped to a short hold of the back button.
Now I had a problem because I was torn between going back to the HTC one (most of which for me all had build issues) or staying with the S4 and waiting for developement to speed up camera and some of the overall lag I was experiencing. So I went out to Best Buy and decided to check out a black HTC One. I don't know if it's simply because the manufacturing was updated or refined but it was perfect. Zero gaps, seemless bezel and no dead or stuck pixels. Having only one trade left at best buy I made the leap and swapped back to the HTC One. I think this was a great decision. Again a big factor was the camera, being able to post edit my shots - remove people from the background and make a drama shot without having to put it in that mode before shooting the picture is really fast and convenient. I in one day caught 3 great pictures that I would have needed to adjust settings on BEFORE taking with the S4. Pictures I think I would have missed with the S4. Also I didn't realize how different (brighter and somewhat crisper) the HTC One screen was. There will of course be sacrifices with the HTC One, no swappable battery, awkward placement of power button and no multi-window. But, the tradeoff is one I'm ok with. Black HTC One made the difference for me.
No offense, but wall of text is extremely hard to read.

Glad I can help. This has been a hard decision for me but I'm glad to finally settle with the HTC One and think I've made the best decision for me.
In my opinion, figure out a way to swap for the black. I don't know if it's because of a refined manufacturing process, Better materials or what - but the difference between the two colors is night and day. No misfires pushing the back or home buttons and no gaps anywhere. I'll post pics when I get home. If you bought from sprint and go in to change color they'll charge a restocking fee. I would recommend pointing out a flaw with the silver (I'm sure you probably have one) and ask to change to a black one as you have heard reports of better assembly and less issues. If you bought from Best Buy or the like you can swap without fee's. That's why I almost exclusively by phones from Best Buy now.

I spent less then a week with the S4 before I gave in to my overwhelming felling of missing an HTC device. I liked some of the features but the phone just felt cheap and the Sprint service in my area doesn't seem to play well with Samsung Phones. Lots of dropped calls and frequent signal fluctuations. Love the ONE very happy I made the switch...
I just noticed I can see PM up on the top right side of the screen and some notifications in the top left corner during full screen apps, especially with a full grey screen. I didn't see those a couple hours ago when I got it.
Did I seriously just burn in my screen already? Is this normal for a "new" One? Or should I be freaking out?
I did nothing out of the ordinary since I got it. Just rooted it, restored apps, put it on the charger for a bit. That's all.
I see 127 views and no replies. No one wants to touch this one lol! I'm taking it back to Sprint in the morning. I shouldn't be getting burn in less than 24 hours into using any phone, refurbished or not.

Yea,i agree, take it back and make them replace it,it should last longer than 24 hours, wether you flash it or not,im upgrading to this from the EVO 4G,in 2 months, but it will be a new one, hahaha,i just cant wait,so i can start to dev for the One now and maybe port over my 4 kornerz rom.
I would take it back as well.
Also, pay attention to the screen. In my One, the speakers busted (same as my OG Evo, Evo 3D and Hero. Htc makes ****ty speakers) I also have a dead pixel so I filed an insurance claim. Today I received the new One and the display is garbage. The whites look dingy and yellow like a cheaper version. It doesn't compare at all to my current One.
I'm gonna send it back and try my luck again =\

Nope. You're lucky then because HTC speakers are cheap and it isn't just me who says so. Here is a quick google search but you can dig deeper and see for yourself. I never really cared because replacing the speaker was easy...but with the HTC One it is a repair nightmare.

Sprint will be sending me another refurbished one early next week. For the time being I'm rolling with my burned in screen but otherwise awesome one! The tech at sprint immediately saw it and was like yeah that's not right haha

Asurion is gonna be sending me another one as well. I just hope the screen matches the one I have now. It is so much better than the replacement. I wish I could take pix and show you guys, it's annoying the things could be this drastically different.
Glad your issue is getting resolved! :good:
So apparently this thing isn't near impossible to repair if they are sending out refurbs as replacements.

/sigh.
I'll halfway attempt to break it down, but I doubt you'll understand.
There are people who break down how difficult it would be for the average consumer to do things such as repairs for these phones (hint:ifixit). The average consumer isn't gonna own all the tools/equipment or possess the knowledge/skill as a professional. This is true in probably everything you'll ever get repaired, otherwise mechanics have been ripping people off for years.
This phone scores as low as possible when it comes to repairs. It doesn't mean that professionals can't repair it. Ifixit isn't gonna breakdown how easy it is for HTC or other phone repair people, why the *@*! would anyone care about that? They are breaking it down for the not so skilled.

haha pwnd!
I got my phone replaced once already as well, but Sprint said they DO NOT use refurbished phones as replacements until the phone has been released for 6 months.
But what was odd is that my replacement phone didn't come with a box, so I dialed ##786# and checked the "reconditioned status" which stated "none." I wonder if this replacement is not a refurb, then why did it come with no box?

Sprint doesn't handle it, Asurion does. They'll tell you it could be new or refurbished. It all depends on what they have. Both of mine came with a box, but that doesn't mean they're new.
I'm about to send ny second replacement back. The screen is just too yellow and dingy looking. It's a damn shame I have to file an insurance claim and pay a deductible on a month old phone.

To update, my 2nd refurb seemed nice enough. But after having it a couple days, I've noticed the screen colors are pretty blown out and definitely not like it should be. Colors are as funky as they can be, and the screen itself is way too bright. And for insult to injury, the phone is unable to connect to 4G LTE. So back to Sprint I go!

Its kinda sad to hear that although htc stepped up their game, sprints/asurions refurbs are still absolute sh!t
