ok ,a quick one,i know there are similar threads about this but i am still unsure as my Z is still a 'virgin' and i need infinite information about the app backup and restore for unrooted XZ. After updated to 253. via pc companion,i feel the need of doing factory reset sorta of refresh everything you know.
But of course i cant risk losing any games data especially when i had gone really far on some games as well as other apps data.
I just want a quick and accurate answer will the backup and restore app really saves the apps data, saved games especially for big games like asphalt ,final fantasy etc?
I checked three of the boxes to backup, system apps, media and downloaded apps data with all the apps ticked below, its backing up to my SD card. (Image in thumbnail below)
After this, can i safely perform the factory reset without worries of losing any data? Any confirmed information would be appreciated, thanks.
anyone? ...

Hey i don't know how popular it is but i love this app! It backs up bookmarks, system setting, sms and more and puts the backup on your sd card. For those flashing phone alot saves alot of headache if you need to wipe. I know there are other ways to backup but hey i like it.
Yea i actually found it as soon as i flashed to jf 1.3, saved me from a whole lot of trouble during my first wipe flashing a theme.
I think its a perfect app. Helps so much after a wipe. If you back up your apps with Astro all your data is saved too .
MyBackup is a must have...
This app is great. Its fast and reliable... Everyone needs a backup of their phone and this app does it best...
now we need to add the app backup capability found in astro into mybackup and it would be the ultimate end user backup utility.

Yeah that would be sweet!!!
App backup now available
The new version of the application backs up apps now... and has capability to schedule a daily or weekly backup... Complete backup utility now
It would be so perfect if it could install all of the backd up apps without you having to click install and done for every single one.
That would be noicee.

I agree with that. Astro is the same way isn't it?
if you rooted you g1, and put your apps on you sdcard, you never need backup you apps, even if you flash/factory reset/wipe/anything else that erases your phone you apps will still be on the ext2 partition on your sdcard i think you can even copy them to your computer if you have a linux machine
Astro is even slower when it comes to reinstalling apps.
As for putting apps on the sd, im gonna wait til google does something about that because i have enough memory left for now. Especially cuz i moved the caches.
Problems with MyBackup
ok, so i did the whole multitouch thing, and now im trying to restore my phone with MyBackup, i backed up all my apps, and all my data to an SD card. Now, i have RC33 with the multitouch add in, and i downloaded MyBackup but when i try to restore the data from the SD card, it gives mr this message: "I/O error: unable to write to SD card. Make sure the SD card is mounted properly and is not connected to your PC."
has anyone else had this problem? The apps restore fine, its only my data (sms, contacts, settings) that gives me that message. Thanks for the help
A reboot fixed that problem for me, though I'm not on RC33.
Yeah it was giving me problems, what it was doing to me is when i restored my system settings the topbar was freaking out and it played ringtones like someone was calling me but no one was, like it is getting the system sounds mixed up. No error messages but still i got rid of it.
Feel lucky. Do *not* restore your contacts using MyBackup. Just re-sync with the google server... I restored using MyBackup and I got duplicates of everyhting and it broke the syncing of my contacts.. For everything else, it worked flawlessly (fantastic for SMS!) but gmail has a backup of your contacts, so there's no use.
Yea, the application says in the opening notes to use either the gmail contact backups or the app, not to use both. There are known issues for sync messing up, but I don't think it is because of the app. Because even without this app people are having a lot of problems with their sync...
I dont know if its just me but when ever I restore my home screen shortcuts all of the shortcuts inside my folders are all messed up or even missing.
For example my games will be in my media folder and my browser short cuts will be in my shopping folder. And some folders will be empty for example my apps folder will be empty and it wont be in anyother folder.
Anyone else have this same problem?
MyBackup Pro
Check it out. This new version solves almost every problem. Restoring all the apps at once does not have any problems at all.. And its just a buck, can not go wrong... Love it!
anybody know where to download this app ? thank you
u tried the market?
I recently discovered the wonderful backup and restore tools for WP7 and was able to use them to backup my Lumia 900 when I lent it to a friend and successfully restore it when I got it back, perfect!
My main phone now, however, is a WP8 8X and it's having some troubles. HTC have helpfully suggested I reset the phone to factory settings..
I obviously don't really want to do that just yet as I don't want to lose four months of app data and game saves etc.
Is a full backup and restore in the works for WP8? Or does it backup the game and app date properly with the regular SkyDrive backup?
I'm thinking things like my Cut the Rope game saves and the various custom news lists I've set up in Weave, will I lose them?
Thanks for any help you can offer!

Microsoft built in a app for backup but, it seems to backup everything BESIDES app settings (my accounts where there but, just had to put in passwords), Not sure why Microsoft did that but, it works... It will restore accounts and mark all your apps that you own(from the last backup) to start installling.
I am still upset about the backup not restoring my games (yea, I had all the achievments on Cut the rope and was almost at the end, no way I will go through every level again) with plenty of other games....grrr... Not sure why they did tha...
Otherwise there is NO 3rd party app that does backup. In a nut shell, there is no current way to backup your save games on Windows Phone 8.
I had a HTC 8x that just went off and never turned back on, so I had to test this...and still are upset a month later...
Thanks for the info (and apologies for the really late reply!), such a shame as it's looking like I might have to switch phones and while a lot of stuff can be brought back or re-set up I'll lose the game data and I've since found out that what is backed up can only be restored during the set-up of the phone before WiFi is connected.
Absolute madness!
I can do without rooting my phone, BUT, it seems there are NO good apps to backup your phone if you're NOT rooted!
For me, the most important thing, is to backup your APPs, APP data, call logs and SMS files. Other media files can EASILY be transferred to your SD card or PC. If you want to preserve the way you set up your icons on your different screens, you can even use NOVA launcher, which will restore your screens to the previous state! :good: There is an APP that can backup call logs and SMS Files, but I haven't found one that backs up APPs and the APP data. A lot of people boast about how great Helium is, but I don't see it! Every attempt I make at backing up the (allowed) apps, Helium freezes!! I even paid for the "premium" edition, and it's still ain't worth a crap!! Tried a number of fixes, but nothing!!
Has anyone found an alternative that will backup APPs and APP data, other than Helium, which doesn't require root???
I've got a Samsung Galaxy S6 (Verizon), which I really don't want to root, but if I don't, backup options seem to be non-existent!
Hi,
I'm kinda new to Android (around 6 months) and after updating my P10 several times with HWOTA, because I'm rooted, I would like to know, if there's a better backup solution.
HiSuite works well but not perfect. The albums aren't backed up (photos, videos and other albums). The system settings are also missing like some application settings.
Is there any easy and "perfect" way to backup (on PC) everything including albums, system and application settings, etc.?
So, when I install a new firmware and all my data is removed from phone, I want to restore ONE whole backup and everything is the same like before the update...this is what I imagine
Greetings,
Jannomag
Purchase Titanium Backup from the play store. It backs up all apps, including app data. And restores wonderfully.
For SMS, use SMS backup and restore.
Only LG has a full backup solution from what I know. Samsung is stepping up their game also. Don't know anything about Huawei.
Hi all,
My phone is quite slow nowadays and has an annoying 5 second freeze every time I wake it up.
As ColorIS 13 looks to be far away in Europe I really need to factory reset.
What's the best way to do this without losing everything in my System Clone?
And is there a tool (PC?) for Oppo phones to restore apps WITH data/settings included?
Android loads can last for years, remain fast and stable if you don't do firmware upgrades/updates. Otherwise factory reset after an upgrade. Android loads can be exceptionally long lived if not screw up by the former or buggy 3rd party apps.
Try in safe mode to see if a 3rd party app(s) are the cause rather than the current core load settings.
Importing app settings even if possible invites the possibility of importing the current existing problems with it. Do a clean load if you go to the trouble of a factory reset. You should already have all critical data backed up redundantly and in order. Including backup exports for all apps that allow it especially Poweramp if you use it.
Make installable copies of all vetted apps for backup and reloads. No Playstore needed; reloads go much faster and smoother.
Use copy/paste file transfers backup and restores rather than automated transfer apps... they can cause data lose if you depend on them 100%.
Another option that's not as drastic is to reset all app settings to their default settings. It may or may not get it. It's always best to find to root cause of an issue if at all possible to prevent it from potentially reoccurring. Only a rootkit, dugged in malware or a boot loop demand a factory reset.
Unfortunately there are not many apps that provide a backup (like Nova launcher, Nights keeper etc).
That means that I would have to reconfigure dozens of apps, some of them being quite cumbersome like home automation apps.
You end up taking a few days to inventorize all settings, possible backups, passwords, accounts etc and configuring those apps again.
Google should implement the possibility to backup and restore data on an per-app basis like I used to be able to do with Titanium Backup

Try temporarily disabling Nova launcher and see if that helps. Try using the native launcher instead. Target all apps that run at boot up. Launchers are some of the few apps that can boot loop an Android.
Any signs of system instability should be taken seriously as they are the only warning you may get before a boot loop.
After 2 back to bach boot loops and full reloads in 3 days I got very organized and proficient at it That was over 2.5 years ago, that's how long this load has been running on this heavily used N10+. Still running on Pie.
How can i check which apps run at boot up?
@latino147 Swift Backup is pretty good at backing everything up, and with root can backup app data. Problem is, to attain root, you'll have to factory reset, which will wipe your data, and there's no way around that.
Yesterday I cleared the caches of several apps and suddenly everything seems to be working fine again
Do you guys know if it's possible to clear ALL caches in one swoop?
Both ColorOS and the developer options don't seem to have such an option.

Sd Maid Pro can at least on Android 9 and 10.
It clips the app caches to 20kb I think it is. If you try to go to zero it will hang on the running apps. It does a nice clean up job on stock Androids and hasn't caused any critical data lose. Can't say the same about CCleaner
