Ok, after seeing some major call integrity gains by enabling evrc-b I decided to dig a little deeper. This is going to be an on going project of mine to help us get some better performance out of these beasts!
Requirements
1. Sense ROM with access to EPST
2. Your MSL
3. The ability to not panic if you mess up something
4. Root
Disclaimer
Your messing around in EPST, if you don't know exactly what that means you should google it because if you break something it's your fault not mine.
Now then! Onto the fun stuff! Please if you have anything to contribute please post and if you have real world experiences in how you have benefited I'll add it to the OP!
Note -- I highly advise you write down all your initial settings and keep them safe just in case
Call Quality and Integrity
1. Open the dialer and type ##778# and input your MSL (edit mode)
2. Open CDMA settings and scroll down to the bottom, you will see three settings. Home Page, Home Orig, Roam Orig. Change all of these to EVRC-B.
3. In the right hand corner tap menu and commit modifications.
This will help you maintain calls and help keep a higher quality of service when in a weak signal area. This is a noticeably big difference. With EVRC enabled I get a ton of dropped calls at home. With evrc-b enabled I get none. Like I can change these in real time and see the difference.
Call Integrity (possibly incorrect configuration looking into fixing)
1. Open your dialer and type ##778# and input your msl in edit mode.
2. Go to the NAM setting menu and scroll to the bottom. You will see an Access Overload setting. This effects the priority of your calls on the network. The higher the number the better. Change this setting to 9.
3. Hit the menu then commit modifications.
You should only see a difference when the network is experiencing a high call volume. Your calls will have priority over them. A side note, I've seen conflicting information for this. The Information I'm using is based off Wikipedia and Government listings. 10 is reserved for test and alert signals, 11 is for emergency services and 12-15 are reserved channels and I would not use them unless you want to risk getting in legal trouble.
Call Responsiveness
1. Open your phones dialer and dial ##778# and enter your msl in edit mode.
2. Go into the Modem settings and the Top option should be Slot Cycle Index. change this setting to SCI 1.
3. Hit menu and commit modifications.
This should help your phone feel and act a little more responsive (not talking about UI speed, but network speed) as it makes your phone poll and communicate with the towers more often. Other benefits to increasing the amount of polling your phone does remains to be seen. Negative effect on battery is possible and probably guaranteed. Also, as a side note. You can drop the setting to 0 but I feel that 1 wouldn't effect the battery as negatively. Plus some more information, towers broadcast at the '1' level and phones by default ping the towers at the '2' level. So better service or better battery?
Data up/down Speed Increase
1. Open your phones Dialer and type ##3282# and enter your MSL in edit mode.
2. Go to Advanced and scroll to the RTSP/HTTPS settings. Change the proxy servers to 0.0.0.0 (or leave them blank if you choose) and change the proxy ports to 0.
3. Hit ok then menu - commit modifications.
This makes it so your phone doesn't route through sprint. This is a tried and true method to get noticeable gains.

This MOST DEFINATELY will reduce your battery life significantly. There is no need for this to be set lower than 2. 1 will make the phone ring faster because of the constant polling but only by about 1 second, maybe 2 seconds. Also this will not effect calll quality like the other setting you have will. This is simply how often it polls the towers. The other 2 tweaks are very useful though. good job

Go to the sprint website and enable an e-chat. Tell them you want to enable evrc-b on your device and they should give you the msl with no issue.
Edit: that's what I did

Most of this info is correct. Except for the ACCOLC setting. In fact, the lower the better. ACCOLC 0 and 1 are reserved for emergency-response teams to gain priority over 'regular callers' during storms, hurricanes etc. You can even use 0 or 1 but it will not do anything special -seing as how this is intended for GSM-based sim voice connections. The only thing we use SIM for is LTE. Leaving it at the default 2 isn't bad or good or netural, it just is. Either way, I always use 0
@thronnos you should include changing the proxy servers for RTSP and the other thing. Just erase the addresses, leave the ports how they are. You can alternatively use 0.0.0.0 for the addresses if you don't want a blank field. Also, OP, will you be including QPST tweaks at some point? I've been meaning to plug my phone in ##DIAG# mode and load up the latest QPST software to mess with everything, but I haven't found the time.
I will be trying out the EVRC-B thing because I've been getting A LOT of dropped calls over the last few weeks. I'd say at least every other phone conversation or so. I'm hoping that this does solve the problem.
Eventually I will be adding more to this. Its just as I have time to play around and Google and see what works or doesn't.

Possibly found a way to greatly increase 1X and LTE speeds/throughput. Playing around now. I'll report back later.
Right now results seem negative but that just could be a placebo.
D3rped out Beastmode! HTC ONE!
Ok. I've tried both settings and it's safe.
I need a couple people who want to try out both of these settings (LTE users preferred) and report back settings.
I'll use 2 control groups. I want to try and keep it fair between both settings. If anyone wants to help test just post here. I'll get something setup.

I would be interested in testing out your settings. I have great LTE coverage here in D/FW. I'd say about 90-95% of the time, I am in an LTE coverage area, but those times when I travel outside of the metroplex, I am stuck on Sprint's terrible 3G network. So anything that would increase data speeds would be most helpful!

Alright. What your gonna need to do is this.
1. Dial ##778# and then enter your msl (edit mode)
2. Go to Modem Settings and down at the bottom you will see a setting CDMA Mobile Receive Diversity. Its disabled by default. There are 2 settings enable and RDDS.
Turn on 'Enable' and hit commit modifications. Let your phone reboot (might take a while) if it hangs just so you know how to force a reboot. How the power and volume down till screen shuts off.

Does anyone know if XDA developers have any intent to create an app that would allow us to force the HTC Hero (CDMA for Sprint), and future Sprint Android phones, to roam? Service is weak in my office and I would love to force it to roam.
Thanks!
Would love to have the ability to force roam.
I would love to have the ability to force roam. Sounds like I'm in the same boat. At work i get like 1/2 bar of reception, while my roaming reception is full bars. My centro had the ability to force it to roam which really saved me but my hero doesn't. I would love if an app made this possible with maybe a toggle switch widget. Not sure if you would need root access for this or not. Could someone elighten us as to whether or not this can be done and if someone is already looking into the issue?
totally on the same boat. this is a must have.
it was done easily on my sprint touch on winmo =/
I would love this ability as well.
^^ Bump ^^
Same problem here!
Same here...while I don't know anything about rooting, I would imagine it wouldn't be that difficult for someone with some skill to allow roam only if it was a setting originally there and disabled before release..
Had this for my Pre. Definately would make my Hero much more usable. I actually believe my battery would last over a day if someone could create this.
Ok, we need to bump this thread. I just switched from my Q9c that had full signal while roaming at my
house (otherwise, no service from sprint). I got my Hero yesterday, and I can't get service PERIOD. I
am willing to pay, and so are a lot of others, for an app for the Hero to force roam. Willing to pay damn good money here.
PLEASE, someone chime in on this.
Yes I need this app I would so pay for this I only need it at my home and I'm paying for air rave bump bump bump
Someone seems to be trying http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg16197.html
I have noticed something.......if I turn on wifi in my home rather than use the data it finds roaming network 50% less. If I leave an app running that consistently taps the data which can be expensive unless you have unlimited it seems to hold the roaming signal in place until the data connection goes dormant.
bump?Anything?
Bumpity bump. This is the only thing stopping me from getting a Hero (or another Android phone).
I am honestly shocked noone has come up with this yet. This is definately one instance where Android fails. Im bout ready to jump ship to big red.

I'm surprised as well. I think I'm going to get the Pre for now, and if there is ever a fix for this, then I'll move over to an Android phone. I'd like to contribute to a solution, but unfortunately time is hard to come by (the same I'm sure for many people).
I upgraded to Android and love it but hate the no forced roaming crap so I had to trade my other phones for a TP2 but I can't activate it until I get my stupid $100 MIR back from Sprint. So I suffer....

So the link you provided above...is guy that barking up the wrong tree?
Alright folks..I think i may have stumbled upon a workaround to force roaming!!
Procedure:
1. Download and install the diagnostics drivers for the Hero
2. Download the latest version of QPST (i'm using 2.7 build 323)
3. On your phone make sure USB debugging is turned on and push ##3424# in your phone keypad
4. Plug your phone in via USB and install the diagnostics drivers when prompted
5. If you've installed the drivers correctly, you should be able to go to Device Manager in control panel and see it registered as a COM port/USB diagnostic device
6. Next open QPST Service Programming>Connection>New. You should see your phone/COM port and you obviously choose that.
7. Choose "Read from phone" in the lower left hand of the window, after which you'll be prompted for your service programming code/MSL (Google your way to find it if you don't already have it)
8. Whence you have entered that code you'll see your phone info around
9. Go to the System tab (5th tab in my setup)
10. NOW..what worked for me was this setup: Preferred Mode: Digital Only (upon further investigation, apparently "Automatic" works as well) Band Preference: A Only (as a side note B Only worked for me as well) Roam Preference: Automatic
11. Press Write to Phone
12. Reboot your phone
That should do it!! If alls done right you should see the familiar Roam triangle over your service bars! Hope it works fer ya..to change back from roaming only change everything back to Automatic.
*DISCLAIMER*: I've been messing around with my phone's service programming quite a bit so this may only work for me cuz of some erroneous change I made to the internals. Also I've only tried this in an area that I know I can get signal at, so whether it is TRULY roaming, I don't know. All I do know is that it says Roaming in my phone's Status

I dont know if this has anything to do with the ROM im running (cyanogen 5 series)
but when i lose service for a period of time, like in my office, then i go outside on the road, it remains without service until i reboot. Anyone else running into this? I find it annoying i have to restart just to make a call
Try toggling on and off Airplane mode. Probably quicker.
Are you running the latest Radio?

What radio version are you using?

i have the same problem! it happened after the first radio update and im running stock rom..i have to go to settings/wireless & networks/mobile networks/network operators/select automatically to fix the probelm..its crazy because it shows i have full bars and 3G and I still can't send messages or call people till i do my fix...any answers??
same problem, i havent updated my radio but am using the latest cyanogen. i usually reboot. thanks for the airplane mode tip.
Moved as not Android Development.
Come to think of this... I had the issue once. I tried toggling Airplane Mode, but it kinda froze and wouldn't let me disable AM. Had to reboot and then it worked fine. Weird, but have only had it happen once. Someone post about this on Google's support site?
My sister has the Nexus also (talked her out of iPhone) and she's having these same issues. 3g dropping to edge randomly while the phone is just sitting there. Can't send SMS and has to reboot the phone. I feel bad because I'm the one that told her to get it and now she's having all these issues... though AT&T really sucks in my state. Her phone is up to date with the OTA updates.

Those are separate issues, I think. I haven't ever experienced those issues... all I've had happen is to go into a building for a while where there was no signal, then after leaving and going outside, not reconnecting to the network. As I said though, a reboot fixed my issue. Not sure about your sister's issue, though it seems some are also experiencing... but not everyone is, which leads me to believe it's either something network related, or specific to a handful of phones. Perhaps a swap with HTC is in order.
It's network+Android. It's even prevalent in good 3G/H saturated areas. Anytime you're switching a speed (EDGE -> UMTS -> HSDPA) all data transfers stop until it's initialized. Unfortunately it seems that Android is handling this changeover extremely slowly and the problem is exacerbated by switching towers (like when you go to a new location). I've found that whenever I travel to a new location I use an Airplane Mode widget toggle when I get there and the problem goes away until I go somewhere else. But like I said it still exists when stationary like if there isn't a really solid HSDPA connection.
It's annoying.
Edit: I should point out that this problem exists with EDGE-3G (first gen Android handsets) as well. Try to do a stream or something like that with one bar of 3G then have it get knocked down to EDGE. 10 to 1 the stream gets interrupted. I know it happened plenty in certain areas with my G1. We're only noticing it more on the N1 because of the antenna placement makes staying on mediocre 3G connections tricky and add in the fact that we're now dealing with a THIRD connection type.
Edit again: I reread my post and it sounds like I'm coming off as "ZOMG THIS IS FACT". It's nothing more than my personal opinion and experiences. Sorry for the confusion.
Again... I think the OP is talking about LOSING SERVICE altogether.... i.e. the bars going grey and the little x showing up above the bars. Not the data connection switchover. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's what he's asking about.

Dude... read the post again. It's as clear as day...not to mention the title of the thread!
I've got the same issue too, and I'm with WIND mobile, so its definitely not a T-Mobile thing.
I either have to go to Airplane Mode, or if that won't work or takes too long, then I just battery pull, reboot and the phone is fine.
I've had this happen in different situations... If like the OP, I'm in an area with no coverage and then I enter a region with coverage, the Nexus One won't pick-up or notice that there's coverage and it'll just sit there and say no service.
If I try to manually select my Network/Mobile provider from the settings menu, it'll error out and say your SIM card is not recognized (others have had the same happen to them as well).
I've also had the phone go from full signal to a total loss of signal and signal would not return until I performed a battery pull.

I've never experienced the last problem you described...
By the way, instead of pulling the battery, you should do a soft reboot by pushing power, trackball, and volume down simultaneously. This is easier on your device then just cutting the power. Just bear in mind that it will take a few seconds for the phone to reboot, so be patient after hitting that key combo.

Thanks for the tip man... Will definitely do what you've described from now on.
WIND is having some network issues, so their signal might have cut out and then that must have triggered the loss of signal bug with the phone where it doesn't see to renegotiate the connection.
BTW, does setting it to "WCDMA Only" make a difference for anyone?
Due to a pretty high demand of people that have been PMing me about my GPS I would like to write up this short help guide that works for me and many other people that have tried these settings.
1. I would like to point everyone to this thread, the Solder fix did wonders on my phone and many others that have done it, it REALLY Does work and it REALLY does work well. If you know someone that can, or if you can solder yourself, DO IT, you will be very happy with the out come.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=878970
I Take no credit for the above fix as it put together by a few people, it really helped many people to get their GPS working properly, the solder step only added to it.
2. This is a step by step guide to MY settings that work on any rom that does not have a broken GPS kernel and always has great results.
A. Head to the Market and download SGS Tools, or search XDA for it.
B. Tuen off your GPS and Wireless Networks
C. Open SGS tools and click on Secret Codes
D. Click on GPS- Test and Settings (LBSTestMode)
E. Click on Application Settings, Change Operation mode to MS BASED
F. Go back one menu and click on SULP/CP Settings and change server to supl.google.com Port number 7576
G. Go back to the main GPS test menu and click Delete GPS Data
H. Reboot
I. Once fully rebooted, turn on your GPS ONLY, do not check use wireless networks.
J. Go outside, REALLY GO OUTSIDE, dont be lazy if you want this to work, Start up maps, or Nav and give it 3-5 minutes, you should have strong lock.
K. If you STILL CANNOT Get a lock, proceed to the next steps...
L. Head to the Markget and down load GPS Status
M. Open the app, click options, click tools, hit manage A-GPS state and hit download.
N. Let the app sit, WHILE YOU ARE OUTSIDE, you should now see a lock within a few minutes or so...
Anytime there after if you cannot get a lock, open GPS Status and redownload the A-GPS State and it should see a lock everytime. These are the settings I have been using for months and they work flawlessly on any rom I have been onm, as long as the Kernel allows it. Give it a shot, even if you dont apply the solder fix (But I cant stress enough to give it a go, it sounds a lot scarier then it really is and it will do wonders for your phone. Feel free to PM if you have any other questions and I will do my best to help
I think solder fix is not required for GPS devices after Oct 2010.
Anyways, what's difference in results for MS BASED and MS ASSISTED ?

thats what i want to know too
THis is what Google/ Wiki turned up
Standalone - The handset has no connection to the network, and uses only the GPS satellite signals it can currently receive to try to establish a location.
MS Based - The handset is connected to the network, and uses the GPS signals and a location signal from the network.
MS Assisted - The handset is connected to the network, uses GPS signals and a location signal, then relays its 'fix' to the server. Which then uses the signal strength from the phone to the network towers to further plot the user's position. Users can still maintain voice communication in this scenario, but not 'Internet/Network service', (i.e. Web browser, IM, streaming TV etc.)
MS Assisted/Hybrid - Same as above, but network functionality remains. Normally only in areas with exceptional coverage.
Great work Sols and Wood!!
Just in case anyone was looking for SGS Tools because I am not seeing it in the market. There is an SGS Toolbox in there but that is slightly different that this one. Do yourself a favor if you use GPS. Use Sol's settings and it will drastically improve your locks. I tend to drive on some backward country roads that don't have names, but rather numbers and the GPS always gets me right to the front door of my destination.
If you download the apk, click the thanks button. This isn't in the market anymore, fyi.
Thanks Woodrube, your the man!
Thanks Woodrube for popping in this app

Thanks Woodrube for popping in this app, when I am at the market after I download my paid apps (87), it is hard to remember all of the free apps that I need to download as well.
I'll give this a try when I get home tonight. I can get GPS locks on Froyo, but on GB or ICS roms it takes a long time to connect, if at all. Sometimes I have to reboot the phone (not really practical) and it'll give me a lock instantly.
Shame sgstools fc's when trying to access secret codes part for GPS.
I also tried to access lbstestmode settings from the old dialer numbers options but doesn't work for ICS.
Shame.... Would love to take a look at this.

Same here, running ICZ.
SGStools doesn't work for ICS ROMs. Never had and probably never will. Need to use something like AngryGPS or the like.
any suggestions on getting this to work on ics?
Bump

I'll test that when I get home, I just want to test it because I want faster locks. Last night I was testing the gps on paranoid 2.5.0 with Devil kernel 1.7.5 I these are my results. Again I need to know if I do this will lock the sats faster. Thanks in advance for this info!

Hi,
Sorry about the new thread. Could not find a match.
I have been reading this sites forum for a couple of years and until now have not broken something to the point I can’t find the answer somewhere.
So my first question. I am really stuck.
I have a Telstra HTC Velocity 4G. I followed the instructions on thread SUPERGUIDE (thread #1416836) and they worked perfectly. Thanks to slapshot30 for creating it
.
I did step 1 and unlocked the bootloader.
I did step 2 using the CWM Perm Boot method to get perm root.
I did step 3 using the Pirateghost’s method to load RumRaider BETA 11 (Thread #1418089).
I run on this for a couple of days and everything was great with the Rumraider ROM. Thanks Pirateghost it works great.
And then.. the phone started to refuse to charge. I tracked this down to a faulty battery by swapping it with friends battery. So now I knew the battery had failed unrelated to any of the changes I had done. So I would have to send it back under warranty.
So I then decided to revert the phone back to stock so I would get any issues when the phone was returned for warranty.
To revert back I “poorly” followed step 6 of the super guide. I missed the relocking of the phone by using the “fastboot oem lock”.
I just directly ran the RUU_HOLIDAY_SENSE3_5_Telstra_WWE_2.27.841.6_Radio_3.01.4720 which appeared fine.
The problem now is:
The phone boots to the normal lock screen. I can call the phone and the phone rings. I can send a text or SMS and the phone beeps. I however cannot swipe the screen to unlock it. If the screen time-out I can press the power button and see the lock screen again.
I have attempted to resolve by:
1. Rerunning RUU_HOLIDAY_SENSE3_5_Telstra_WWE_2.27.841.6_Radio_3.01.4720 which did not helped.
2. When I boot the phone if I power it on holding the POWER and VOLUME DOWN it just boots normally so I cannot get it into recovery.
3. Fastboot.exe and adb.exe do not find the handset.
If I plug the phone in the phone appears as “HTC Android Phone USB Device” in windows. So the USB port is working fine.
Any ideas of what else I can try next would be greatly appreciated?
I would attempt to take it back, sounds like maybe you have more than just a faulty battery, if you have had it I think less than 7 days they should count it as a DOA and issue you a new one over the counter.
Yep, HTC have a 30 ELF - early life failure - period wher you can just swap for a new one in store.
Thanks swapped the phone over with no problems.
good to know, thanks
wonder if they will do this with mine? but the store is a Telstra Licensed Store operated by Fone Zone. got phone on 15th feb. Having issues of phone not enabling data network when coming out of sleep and gps constantly loosing fix. I also got suckered into getting FZ's esp.
For the phone not enabling data network when coming out of sleep please check you have the following set.
Settings
Wireless & Networks
Mobile networks
Tick " Tick always on mobile data"
Let me know if this fixed it.
If it locked off just dial a uncharged vacant voice number to force connection. In Aust something like 8888 would do the trick.

The first works but the dialing one didn't where i dialed a number. Was even able to receive a call. Also what about the GPS and the signal strength being all over the place i watched the db level change and all that.
---------- Post added at 04:43 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:34 PM ----------
now i have to restart the phone to get data back even with always on mobile data. Also saw that Mobile network tick boxed had been unticked then i ticked it it took ages to go white writing. but still had to restart phone to get data back.
nope didn't swap on the spot The system also lost my Tech Bar appointment.
They are going to use the esp express (apparently faster) to swap it hopefully in 2 days hopefully not a referb so i keep using this current phone until they ring me and i go in and just swap it over.
Also noticed when using data its not changing to HSPA no H near the signal icon like my xoom or like just sitting on 3g.
How can I convince people (brother was thinking of getting one) to buy these phones if i keep getting ****? What ever happened to the Quality control? mumble mumble...
Sorry,
It unclear to me, did the settings I suggested resolve the phone not enabling data network when coming out of sleep?
Also the GPS on mine is fine. I grabbed 4 phones and used GPS Test from the market. With all 4 phones on in my court yard which is surrounded by large buildings my rather unscientific the finders where.
HTC Velocity: In view: 12, Locked 8, Lowest 13 SNR, Highest 30 SNR
HTC Desire: In view: 7, Locked 7, Lowest 12 SNR, Highest 26 SNR
HTC EVO 3D: In view: 8, Locked 8, Lowest 8 SNR, Highest 30 SNR
Samsung Galaxy S II: In view: 7, Locked 7, Lowest 20 SNR, Highest 26 SNR
So based on simple test the GPS seems the best of these 4 phones.
Also for LTE if you believe you are in 4G coverage could you please try this.
Dial *#*#4636#*#* to bring up phone info. ( or download “LTE Only”)
Change to LTE only ( This will break Voice calling so change it back!!).
Don’t touch the SMSC setting or you will break SMS in this screen.
This should now change the phone to “4G” for Telstra Build.
The download “SpeedTest” from the market and test it.
Then change back to “GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto”
Let me know how this goes.

yes it did resolve it but its being temperamental. eg it will come out of sleep properly then it wont.
gps not working too well even with clear view of sky. keeps loosing fix loss of gps signal. the time of loss varies to not coming back at all to a few seconds. Ive also discovered that its not switching to HSPA at all. Haven't tested the 4G yet. But anyway ill just have to put up with the refurbishment when they swap it. So much for 7 day DOA swap over counter.
Hi could you please try this to save you the hassle of sending the phone back. It would appear that a lot of your phone default setting have been change or been set incorrectly when you purchased the phone.
Data not returning after sleep.
My suggestion wrong be that the phone isputting the data connection to sleep to save power.
Press Home
goto into settings
press power
untick Save Power
Set save Powerautomatically to say 15% for now.
If you look in save power settings you will have "put data connention to sleep" ticked leave it ticked. My assumption is you are triggering this to early due to the two settings above.
GPS Performance.
Could be linked to Power setting.
Aslo done load "GPS test"
Open it
hit the settings setting button in the app
Update your AGPS
now turn you GPS on via button on the top left hand corner
Go for a walk out side and it should work fine now
You will see all the sats and their levels.
you could run this on a mates phone and compare the results.
Network not providing HSPA
How are you determing this? If you run speed test it should change to "H' and then drop back to 3G when the data drops off.
Also could you force 4G if you are in a coverage area to see if this is working. I am interested incase there is a network problem.
my response is in RED

done
the screen goes off by itself sooner then 45 seconds or quicker then any applied settings.

says 11 in view but will not fix and the sats sometimes disappear and then come back

only get the 3G and arrow symbols it doesn't change to a H symbol. I also noticed the signal strength drop to 1 dot then full bars then waver around.
I also dropped to 3Telstra and got the H symbol but when i started using data it changed the symbol to 3G.

not in a 4G area.
and now its not ringing when i get calls.

esp express doesnt apply until the 30 day elf period is up so 7 days min away to be assesed.
This is an old trick for a new phone.
I would give credit where credit is due but I honestly can't remember where this came from but I think it works and I can tell the difference. Thanks to all who did the research on 13k vs EVRC a few years ago...
First get your MSL/SPC, this video will show you how. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7FN-IA_pUM
After you have that done, open the dialer and dial ##3282# then choose "edit", enter your MSL/SPC and go to "advanced" and change "Home Orig.Vocoder , Home Page Vocoder, Roam Orig. Vocoder" all to 13k then turn the EVRC-B off then hit the back button and change the same settings again because they will revert when you exit the first time. Reboot and enjoy.
If you don't like the way it sounds or like EVRC better just change it back. I think I read somewhere that 13k does use a little more battery but I can't tell the difference.
This more or less suggests what to use, the basestation can override.
They must not be overriding because it sure seems to work for me!

Doesn't work here. Tried it on a legacy site and NV 3g accepted site. No difference in quality. Easy way to tell is with a real time echo test and play some music.
Also tried it on the airave and monitored the bandwidth used and it is exactly the same.
There was tests done for 13k vs EVRC and they said that there is a noticeable difference to their ears and to test equipment. I guess it doesn't work for everyone So sorry, must depend on the area you're in.
Worked for me in UT, thank you!!
