Force Latitude to update more often?

I think that Latitude is a really cool feature, I like the idea of my wife and I being able to see eachother's locations on a map with our phones.
Problem is, the way it's implemented it ends up being completely worthless. We both leave GPS enabled at all times, but Latitude only updates our location when we go into the Maps app. I was trying to figure out if she was at work yet or still at home, but checking the map gives me a location that was last updated 9 days ago so I'm stuck with sending her a text message and hoping she replies. How is that useful to anybody?
Is there any way to trick Latitude into updating itself every five minutes or half hour or something? As it is, this feature is a real missed opportunity.
yeah feel the same way, its just poorly implemented.
Yeah this really bugs me about latitude. Makes it completely worthless really.
The stupid thing is the Google doco even says you can close maps and it will automatically update your location
http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=136647
Yesterday's google maps update release notes claim that latitude update problem has been corrected.
yeah we'll have to wait and see if its any better.

yeah i meant that i needed to give it some time to see how it updates...so far nothing different with latitude that i can tell.
If you're using Latitude on an Android device (or iPhone, BB, windowsOS for that matter) you can use 3rd party apps to tremendously expand the features and options of Google Latitude. Backitude for Android devices gives you every configurable setting imaginable, and even allows you to force Latitude updates on your friends who are also using Backitude. Give it a try, it's free!

[Q] Google now location services stopped and phone permanently awake

News about this issue is spreading but wanted to post here too to see if anyone had ideas about how to stop this in the time being. It seems a google services update for google search/now caused people to see location services as stopped in the google now window. All GPS/location settings are on when you click on the link it provides to reach the settings.
This part though I haven't seen any reports. My battery history is now showing the phone is awake almost constantly. Betterbatterystats is showing that partial wakelocks for something called NlpWakeLock (googleservices) is running the whole time.
I'm hoping that something will show up either here on xda or productforums on google but advice is much appreciated!
Yes, news certainly is spreading fast. From my 1 minute of browsing post titles in this very subforum I found four other posts on this very issue. This fifth post will just further dilute the available information on this issue (which Google is investigating)

Yep, I apologise, less specific searches worked. I can't post a link but I suggest anyone reading this searches xda for post 2288395 which already has multiple responses.

Google Account Settings issue

** UPDATE **
To be more specific, I'm not having issue with Android Device Manager, I'm having issue with the message "You don't have any devices" in Google Play Store.
I've looked it up in lots of places but seems like no one has a concrete answer.
Any further direction would be appreciated!

Hello,
I've installed all of the required apps to run Google Play store and have installed apps without issue. I'm having a couple of issues:
1) When I tap on Google Account Settings, it doesn't load anything, just closes the app
2) When I log in to Google Play on my browser, it says that I have no devices connected to the account, even thought I'm downloading apps just fine with that very same account in Google Play app. I'd like to remotely add and delete apps from my tablets as they are for the kids and I don't always have the tablets by my side to install / delete things.
Please help, thanks!

It's been like this since I got everything set up 3 weeks ago. It's never recognized that the tablet is associated to the account.

Another poster (perhaps a few) described a similar situation along with the steps taken to remediate. If I stumble across that I will repost here. As I recall it involved deleting and readding Google account(s) on the device side (reboot between) plus a tweak or two from the web version of Android Device Manager.

Problem appears to be widespread with no generic solution. See (one of many similar posts):

Might be something you just have to live with.

While there are quite a few you might want to start with AirDroid. Generally well regarded albeit sometimes a bit schizophrenic. You should be able to accomplish basic app/device management with the free version. Can also look at some of the more focused tools once you decide which features are most important.

Yes - did you look at AirDroid? Claims to have that capability. Also note there are various workarounds (eg: create a second account) for the original issue you reported. None work 100% which is why I didn't elaborate. You are going to have to do a little research to get what you want.

I've looked it up in lots of places but haven't found anything concrete for solution. Is it because I'm using a Fire Tablet and it's not supported on Google Play?

Answered the last question in a previous post (below). As for remote install a tool like AirDroid can get the job done but you will need to get creative with the approach. In the end it may not be worth the effort, especially if the target devices are physically accessible albeit with a little inconvenience wrestling it away from the kid.

Android 12 Public Beta

Wondering if those that are running the public beta are experiencing the same kinds of issues I am?
1. Living universe wallpaper keeps crashing/defaulting to the out of the box wallpaper.
2. Maps preview (beta) doesn't allow keyboard input, I cannot type any kind of search, location, reviews, etc..
3. Notification dots keep going away, reboot and I'll get them for a while then new messages or emails come in and no dots.
4. Google Play Services is the #1 battery drainer.
5. I'm getting significantly poorer battery life. Typically end my day in the high 50-low 60% now I'm in the teens.
I fully understand this is beta and to be expected just a little difficult to use as my dd. Looking forward to the next beta release to hopefully correct some of these issues and not make things worse

3. Mine stays but I'm using Hyperion Launcher
4. #3 on my list and it's not draining much battery at all
5. I'm getting good battery life. On stock kernel I was getting about .8%/hr idle drain and around 9-10%/hr active drain. On CleanSlate kernel I'm getting .65%/hr idle drain and 9.77%/hr active drain. Moderate use.
Can't speak to 1 and 2.

Did you do a clean install? Due to the issues I had on DP3, I did. I'm not having any of the issues above. My phone has been off the charger for about 7 hours and it's at 74%. That's with quite a bit of email, texts, YouTube music, etc. If you didn't do a clean install, I highly suggest it. If you did, you should try doing a factory reset again. I know that sucks to do, but you'll have a better experience if it clears up most or all of your issues.

Wallpaper isn't crashing for me. Maps seems to be working as normal. My Gmail notification dot is sometimes there and sometimes not, other apps the dots are fine. Don't really care what app/service is draining my battery the most as long as my battery life seems intact, at which this point it does. Getting good battery life. Also, everytime I install a beta I ALWAYS factory reset. And everytime I update to a new beta I do the same until the final release, once I get the public release I factory reset for the last time. Just what I've done for years now and I seem to experience a lot let issues then others. Worth a shot.

I bit the bullet and did a factory reset, so far battery life is much improved. Living universe wallpaper still a problem as is the notification dots on the stock launcher but I can deal with it. Voice to text works on Maps Preview so the lack of a working keyboard isn't the end of the world.

Question Videos not playing on Pixel 7

For the last few days I've been running into a weird issue: sometimes full-screen vertical videos won't open nor play. It happens on almost every app (Twitter, Instagram, Reddit, YouTube, ecc).
So far the only fix I was able to find was to reboot the phone but it's only a temporary fix, as the issue reappears after some hours.
I thought it could be caused by some app, but I haven't installed anything new for a couple weeks now. I'm currently on software version 13 (TQ1A.221205.011) as I haven't got the January update yet.
You can always download the latest OTA and factory image and flash the update using e.g. Pixel Flasher for convenience. No need to wait for the slow incoming and slowly flashed OTA process.
Regarding the videos; did you try to clean all caches with a tool like e.g. SD maid?

Thanks for the reply.
I tried both clearing caches with SD Maid and booting into safe mode to try and identify what was causing the issue, but had no luck. I ended up factory resetting the phone and the issue seems to now be gone.
I also have this problem, and I'm really tired of restarting my phone every day. I've had the Pixel 4XL and the 7 Pro, and had issues with both. I'm very tempted to go back to the Samsung product line because Google can't release a phone that just works out of the box.

Yeah onestly it's very annoying. Even after a factory reset the issue came back.
I'm a first time Pixel user coming from an S10, overall I'm quite happy with the experience but small bugs like this and the fingerprint reader sometimes drive me mad...

That's awful. I haven't gone the factory reset method because I'd have to do a lot to make sure I don't lose access to wallets and work accounts. The fingerprint reader issue went away for me with the last system update. That was swapped for frequent System UI crashes, and still videos stop playing, and Google Maps stops navigating/updating GPS location. Looking into warranty claims, Google requests a factory reset before taking it to an authorized repair shop or mail in, which doesn't work for me, and I doubt the issue would be fixed.
I had the Galaxy line of phones from the original through 6. I hated the bloatware, but at least the phones worked.

I've reported the issue on Google Community and I've been told to also report it to developers via the built in Android Issue Tracker. I think you should do the same, maybe if enough people report it they'll look into it:
Best send feedback to the developers about this. You can send feedback either through your device or through the Android Issue Tracker.

I've reported the issues as feedback before, but it was before the last System Update. Thanks to your reminder, I sent another report. I did forget to include that the Pixel watch will disconnect from the phone about once a week, which is probably related to videos, camera, and GPS also not working correctly after some time.

After a couple of days in contact with Google's assistance I was offered to replace the phone under warranty. It sucks to not have solved the issue and to have to setup the phone once again, but at least Google was quite understanding.
Overall I think it's quite a rare issue as we are the only two people on the entire internet reporting it. Maybe you should try asking for a replacement too.

I've seen similar complaints on Reddit, so we're not alone. Is Google making you return the phone before they send the replacement, or are they letting you set up the new phone first?

I received an advanced replacement phone last week. Everything was great for 3 days, until I connected my phone to my car via Bluetooth and setup Android Auto. Now I'm having the same annoying issues on this new phone. How has your replacement been working for you?
