[Q] Rooted, no SU Binaries - Galaxy Ace S5830 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. I have Android 2.3.6 on my Galaxy Ace. I wanted to root it with upd_1.zip. I used the stock recovery. It said installation complete, so I rebooted. The Superuser icon has appeared in my app drawer so I was very happy that it was successful, but my SuperUser says that I haven't got SU binaries, so I haven't got any root access. I've searched for similar problems, but I didn't find any. What do I do now?

Sorry buddy, never heard of such an issue. I guess you try to Unroot and Root again. U may try xda for some better Root procedure or search my blog www.andro-sapien.blogspot.in.
Do let me know if it is sorted out by Re-Rooting.

pls help
So, I unrooted and rooted and there's the same issue. Original Superuser says - Checking available version failed, so I tried to delete the app data - that didn't work. I updated the Superuser and it says that I doesn't have SU binaries.

Try this:
https://hotfile.com/dl/178579596/5420e4d/acegingerroot.zip.html
or
https://hotfile.com/dl/180452656/3c2538d/gingerbred-2.3.6-root.zip.html

I actually have a similar sounding problem but arrived at it differently.
My phone had been rooted and working OK for over a year. At some point the latest superuser binary stopped functioning with adb wireless.
So I downloaded SuperSU a few months ago and it's different binary fixed that particular issue. So all was working fine until failing to update that binary today. I'm now in the same boat as you but don't have a clue how or why.

This 2 files are the same as my upd_1.zip. The very same. My upd_1.zip has xbin with busybox, su etc. but it doesn't want to be flashed for some reason. The only files in my xbin folder (in the phone) are : busybox, dexdump, although I flashed the other needed binaries. What is this? Is this my phone's fault?
@edit : Can I flash CWM without those binaries?

Yes you can, and then you can try to flash root again.
If not you can flash CF-Root (only for Gingerbread!!) maybe it works :S
1º Flash via recovery CWM
http://www.mediafire.com/download/u331vcwkr36c28n/CF-Root-S5830-v3.7-b84.zip
2º Flash via CWM APP, it'll fix the bootanimation
when your android will boot, go to CWM app (in your drawer) and select "Flash kernel" and select this file
http://dfiles.eu/files/1sfl9qotm

I flashed CWM Recovery, and now when I select install zip from sdcard and select root file, it says error 7 - update aborted.
@edit - I found the AceGingerRoot.zip. Is it legit and can I install it on GT-S5830 (it has different MD5 than upd_1.zip and root.zip).

I've always used Acegingeroot to get root permissions... do what you consider more solutions, impossible

Acegingerroot didn't worked. No errors at all, but still no root access.

What rom are you using?
Is GT-S5830 your device model?
Did you try CF-Root b84?
Have you got enough free internal memory?
if you have Thinkfree installed, try to delete it flashing this file before flashing root file:

I use the stock ROM - GINGERBREAD.XWKTQ (from the Polish mobile network Play Mobile)
Yes, I have GT-S5830 (checked twice in settings and on box)
No, i didn't tried it.
I have 54 MB left.
I have ThinkFree.
Is ThinkFree Office the problem?

The last firmwares haven't enough space in system partition to push correctly root files, I don't know about your rom, I'm using KTM form Spain as base and I've never had a trouble, but if your problem is that your rom is using all the internal memory (system partition) you couldn't push root files, so you can try deleting ThinkFree from the system partition and then try to root your phone...

umm I think, yes... I've read post where people have flashed CWM and then a custom rom, but I wouldn't advise you to do it directly... anyway you can try it if you want and report then what happened

Actually, I'm gonna wait till more people on forum will help me. I don't want to risk so much. I don't know what can I do.

LOL! Well thought out! I wouldn't do it either
if upd_1, acegingeroot, and cf-root didn't work and you want to root your device, the best way is to use Odin and to flash a fresh stock rom which it allows you to flash this files

OK. I'm gonna do that, but can you post me some links with download and instructions for my Ace?
And - if I flash a new ROM with Odin, will my CWM recovery disappear?
Oh, I found my ROM on Samfirmware from Play Mobile (XWKTQ 2.3.6), so there's no point of installing it right? I need just a fine ROM with polish language.
EDIT - I almost forgot - I didn't tried the Delete_thinkdroid.zip thingy. I'm gonna flash it now and post the results.
EDIT 2 - WHAT?! I flashed Delete_thinkdroid.zip and it didn't even deleted it. I still have ThinkFree and it's working! Guess i'm gonna need that new ROM. It seems that my ROM just refuses to use recovery flashing in any way.

[Q] Adb Remount.

hey guys
Got a Note yesterday.... cant adb remount, am rooted.
How do i mount so adblock etc can work ?
ive forgotten everything ive learnt about the SGS II .
Screenview attached.
Make sure you have full root working. check it by pasting any file in system folder.
And also you should have Galaxy note usb drivers installed
root is working for all applications etc,
I suppose it doesnt help ive gone for an ICS Rom. my confusion is i am able to edit almost all files under root explorer minus the system file "/System"

If you are able to alter the system in any way i.e modify/remove any file from /system only then you can be sure you have full root.
hmmm problem removing any system apps through TitBackup fails.
Ive tried looking at adb shell root but that doesnt fully work either
What am i missing here?

Well then, flash the chinese ICS CF repack through odin, then flash imilka's aosp for now in recovery and after flashing do a factory reset, and then boot into download mode and flash CF root 5.2. It'll be fine I think, and u'll have root
Edit: TRR 1.6 has angelom's 1.2 kernal, that is seem to causing a lot of bricks, so flash imilka's for now(it dnt have kernal with it) untill others come up with their bugs free updates
Just flash this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19030788&postcount=6
Problem solved.
You could _try_ extracting the zImage file from that archive and see if CWM Manager will let you flash it directly - will almost certainly fail if root isn't working properly though.
Otherwise, you may have to go back to a rootable kernel, or otherwise flash with Odin and then deal with the yellow triangle later.

Problem installing any zip from recovery

Hello,
I have a galaxy ace S5830 phone. I wanted to install ICS 4.0 on it. The phone is rooted and runs 2.3.4.
When I try to install any zip file from recovery it gives an error saying "E: Can't open /tmp/sideload/package.zip (bad)".
I just cannot install any zip file.
The phone has android recovery 3e.
I formatted the OS (factory reset) but it didnt change anything. Formatted SD card too but no use.
What is the possible reason behind this error?
Any solution is highly appreciated.
flash cwm.

flash this recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=743333&d=1318051346, and then install zip
but be carefully u must have s5830 not s5830i or others.

The log you posted states that the zip file is corrupted...have you tried to redownload cwm and flash it again? It's impossible that you are able to flash the zip for root but not cwm...it must be the zip's problem...

Well, I tried with different zip files of CWM. It is not working. The zip files are not corrupt since I tried them on my friend's ace and they worked fine.
I did not flash for root. I rooted through superoneclick since the flash was not working.
Also the error given is not for my zip file. It is for some package.zip (I dont knw what is this zip file neither do i knw its location tmp/sideload)
Different zip files of cwm?where you get that many? Try to refer to this thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12874680...install the cwm from there...and if it is still not working, reflash a new firmware (2.3.6 for most countries) via ODIN and try again...
And one more thing, in stock recovery, you must select install zip from external storage (or something like that), not from cache...you will be brought to your sd card to select the relevant zip file...

With due respect Sir, Different zips means CWM zips from different download sources.
I tried it with 2.3.3, 2.3.4, 2.3.6 (installed them via ODIN). But seems that firmware doesnt make any difference to the recovery. Keeps on giving the same error.
Thanks for the link above..let me try that out.

I am flashing from SD card only.
But, its not working, I need a method to install CWM without flashing. Since, I already have a root, is there any software that can do that?
P.S Tried ROM manager free version. It asked for premium version. Tried cracked premium version, while installation it says "Application not installed".

s5570I Pop plus - Unroot and removing CWM

I rooted my phone and installed CWM.
However rooting and installing roms are not for me. So I want to go back to my warranty.
How can I unroot and remove CWM and go back to my warranty, I still have 21 months of warranty period and I dont want to burn it
I found how to unroot, installing unroot file and setuping it like rooting but how to remove CWM.
Thx a lot
Taha
if you have a stock rom then flash it with Odin
else for unrooting first remove superuser app then busybox and sqlite3 then su and you will be unrooted
for going to stock recovery you will need its img and have to flash with odin
weird thing I only had superuser. after putting unroot.zip into my sdcard.
I turn off my device and go to the recovery - tadaaa CWM is gone.
What can cause this?
How I install CWM? Put the cwm into sd card and installed it via recovery menu.
Thx a lot

I found this file in this forum and looks like it did the job. I check with root checker and it says I'm not rooted.
But I'm confused about CWM. How it deleted itself. It deleted itself before unrooting process.
I don't have the answer
I guess flashing a stock firmware gives you the stock recovery. So its obvious that you'll lose CWM.

[Q] Trying To Root (Installation Aborted) Error

Im Am Trying To Root My Samsung Galaxy Ace gts5830 And Everytime i try to install the zip file provided by the forum I Keep Getting Error
E:Error In /tmp/sideload/package.zip Installation Aborted .............PLZ Help
What firmware are you running? If its ktq there's a previous step (cuz that firmwares system is full). There's a thread on that.
Other than that, which zip are you trying to flash (maybe link to post)?
How are you trying to flash it?
It Is Android Version 2.3.4......Baseband s5830dtlki4..........kernel 2.6.35.7-perf-cl568978 [email protected] #1.
Build Gingerbread.dtlki4
I Went into Recovery mode And Tried root.zip and update.zip wich i cant remember exact thread but both were of the forum
And Ive Read Lots And Cant figure it out
There's one called AceGingerRoot.zip, same stuff, go ro recovery (stock recovery, not cwm recovery) install zip from sd card. Then just update the superuser app from the market and its binary:

That root method with Odin is for Android 2.3. You tried it on 4.1.2? If yes, then download your JB firmware again and install it with Odin (like you did with that root). And use this for root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2087424

Guys, I've encountered another problem and I thought it wasn't necessary to open another thread. So..I managed to root my phone and I would like to install a custom ROM but I have problems with Clockwork mode. I found a thread about temporary CMW for JB and I tried it but it doesn't seem to work. I installed it but when I want to navigate through it's menus (for example going to the "install zip from sd card" menu) it restarts. Even when I try to reboot my phone ("reboot system now") it doesn't work. CWM just restarts. Any thoughts ?

Install CoCore with Universal kernel flash, and use permanent cwm. You need to unzip it, and use kernel.bin.md5 and you must have some root explorer installed.

No, you cannot change kernel without rooting your phone.
And rooting has a lot less risk of bricking phone.
