[Q] Share photos via NFC? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I tried to share a photo via nfc beam or whatever you called it with a galaxy nexus 2. That is, I opened the photo in gallery and touched the back of both phones, nothing happened.
The guy with the gn2 expected this to work..
Any idea on whether this works and if so how?
Thanks

It won't work lol! NFC beaming is only a feature of Samsung devices. And it does not use NFC for file sharing. All it does is authenticate pairing of the 2 devices then initiate a WIFI connection to transfer the files. So proper term would be a WIFI file transfer.
Why bother with NFC anyways? We have bluetooth for that and we don't have to get our precious device near a cheap one when using bluetooth. Joke!
BTW nexus devices has one of these also but it uses bluetooth instead of wifi.

We ended doing this the old paved bt way, of course..
Kinda wished the beam thing, bt enabled, would be a standard, I mean, no need for sharers to worry about turning on/off bt, pairing, then sending/accepting a photograph when one is selected on either device.

Not true, I have beamed pictures to a Note 2 perfectly fine. Turn on NFC on your One, and on the Galaxy, you also turn on NFC (do not turn on S-Beam). Now, remember, you can only beam a picture when you open it using the gallery app or view it from your camera after you take a picture. Also, both phones must have the screen on. Stock ROMs usually have NFC off whenever screen goes off. If you want to use NFC while screen is off, you need to install a custom ROM. So now, open a picture in gallery, then tap back-to-back both phones, and the picture on your One should shrink in size with the words on the top that says, Tap to beam. Tap the screen on the One and the transfer will initiate.
And by the way, NFC beaming of pictures uses Bluetooth, not WiFi. S-Beam from Samsung uses WiFi Direct, but that only works between their own devices. NFC beaming just authenticates two devices in close contact temporarily so a Bluetooth pairing can occur. It's more standard across the new android devices.

So any android phone does that? Wow! I thought it was only a AOSP thing glad that it also works on HTC One.

Just tried it from my one to my daughter's galaxy s3 and from hers to mine and it worked both ways.

https://support.htc.com/en-hk/020-HTC_One_SV/0L0/050
I know this is the One SV, but procedure is the same with the One just Android Beam is always on. Give it 30 seconds after switching NFC on, for some reason it takes this amount of time for NFC to properly come on.

[Q] SmartTags

Hi!
Just a short question about the SmartTag functionality.
Let's say I'll put one SmartTag into my car. By touching it with the Z, I want Bluetooth to be switched on, and let's say GPS. When leaving the car, can I touch the SmartTag again to switch off Bluetooth and GPS, or do I have to turn them off manually?
What do you think? Do you have any experience with those SmartTags?
Thanks and have a nice day.

You can program two tags, one two switch on bluetooth and gps and one to turn off bluetooth and gps
OR you can program it to switch on bluetooth and gps and keep the phone on top of the tag and then to switch it off as soon as you remove it from the tag

thanks for your reply.
what a shame. that's more than inconvenient. then i need to have two SmartTags for each "situation/location context". and keeping the phone on top of the tag isn't useful either.
maybe we can setup the smarttag to toggle options everytime it is touched?!

Possibly, i'm going off my brothers Xperia T, he received free tags, you could potentially keep a battery saving tag on your keyring, so essentially when you touch it it will switch off, bluetooth, wifi, GPS, etc, assuming your outside, so one you get in the car, maybe get a windscreen dock and stick one on there, everytime you dock it, bluetooth on, gps on, run navigation or something, then when you get out, just tag it to your key to switch off all wireless options besides Data,
I'm not sure about the toggles you will have to check that out,
they do both now from one tag....they always have you just have to set it up properly

[Q] Fuelband as a Trusted Bluetooth Device?

So I am eagerly awaiting my Cyber Monday (Wednesday) Moto X and while doing so, I've been browsing through accessories I might want to enhance my Moto Xperience, and I really want to take advantage of the Trusted Bluetooth Device along with Touchless Controls.
I've been searching around, but I haven't been able to find a definitive answer, just off-to-the-side mentions of its use.. I have a Nike Fuelband SE that has BTLE. Nike doesn't support AndroidOS, so there's no dedicated app for it. I am, however, able to discover it with my current phone (Droid 4).
So basically, does anyone know if I will be able to use my Fuelband as a Trusted Bluetooth Device, or how I might go about doing that? I guess I could find some BL keychain if there was no way to use it.
Thanks ahead of time for your replies and help.
If your droid 4 can see it I can't see why the moto x won't. Once you connect to a Bluetooth device it will ask you if you want to make it a trusted device. If it doesn't the setting is under security. I can't see why it wouldn't work. Good luck.
Sent from my XT1060 using xda app-developers app
Thanks. I was concerned because it didn't actually support Android, but was hoping it could simply act as a dummy BTLE device. Got an e-mail from Fedex telling me it's arriving today so I'll test it out and come back here with what I've got
If anyone happens to be interested, the Fuelband SE isn't continuously syncing via Bluetooth to the Moto X. It pairs, and the Moto X asks if I want to make it a trusted device, but the notification tray icon never turns blue. It doesn't seem to be able to continuously sync. Too bad I was really looking forward to this.
If anyone knows a way around this, please let me know. Thanks!

have you done any other testing? kit kat got rid of the blue theme. the icons are either orange (no connection), white (connected) or dark (disabled).
I just tried it with a bluetooth headset and the icon turns and stays white. With the Fuelband connected, it just stays sort of grayed out.
Working!
This has been pushed back due to what I assume is a lack of interest for, but in case someone else decides to figure this out or something similar to it, I have managed to get the Fuelband SE to "sync" with the Moto X and act as a Bluetooth Trusted Device.
There's an app on the Play store called "Bluetooth Auto Connect" that you can set to sync with the Fuelband (and what I assume would be any device) and it will do so automatically. The icon stays greyed out, but turning the Fuelband's BT on and off in turn pops up that Trusted Device notification on the Moto X.
I hope this helps someone else with any type of random trusted device need.
Cheers

You can use it as your trusted device to keep your phone unlocked while you're in proximity to it and connected via Bluetooth. Saves me those few seconds of having to enter in my password, and maintains some security.

Oh, I thought you were referring to what I can do with the pairing to the Moto X.
I've been using the fitness aspect of the Fuelband since March 2012. The newest one that I have now I can use to track my general activity throughout the entire day, tag specific workout sessions in order to keep track of my workout intensity over time, track hours of sleep, and set goals for myself (via # of Fuel points) every day to give me an activity level to reach for. Since there's no Android app or any sort of Android support on Nike's end, I do all my data syncing through my PC.
And now I can use it to keep my phone unlocked when it's on me
I've got a Pebble syncing fine and enabled as a trusted device but my bluetooth icon is always greyed out. I think it only turns white when there's an audio connection like with a headset or stereo.

Makes sense why mine is grayed out too. Pebble supports Android though, and since there's no support/app for the Fuelband on Android, I had to use the auto bluetooth connect app to force a pairing to make it a trusted device. Was close to buying a Pebble though. Saw it was on sale for $90.

Yup. I got mine yesterday from Best Buy for $90. Wasn't planning on buying one but, at that price, I thought what the hell. So far I'm really digging it.
Its a shame it wasnt hacked already it would be nice to have wristband with notification...I am not into fitness or watch stuffs
Thanks for the info on the app!
By using this app to ensure a connection, how long does your Fuelband SE battery last? I suspect it has shorten considerable from when you were not using BT at all.
Also, since there are at least 2 battery sizes depending on the band size (circumference), which size is yours?

Some Details would be great. Are you running on stock? Which Android Version do you have? Which app are you using?
Have you checked if there is really no IR signal sent, or is the device you are trying to connect to just not recognizing anything?

RockScout App and MirrorLink

I have a Verizon Galaxy Note 5 (unrooted of course) and a Pioneer AVH-4100NEX car stereo that I run Android Auto on. Just downloaded an app called RockScout to try it out with MirrorLink since the Pioneer supports that as well. Noticed that when you start the app if you hit the back button it allows you to mirror the entire phone screen to the radio with full touchscreen functionality. (I have a parking brake bypass installed). Have only seen this capability with AppRadio Unchained Reloaded and only with rooted phones. Not sure if this is intentional or not. Has anyone else experienced this with MirrorLink apps? It's kind of cool because I have been wanting to use Audible through my radio but there is no Android Auto support yet. This allows it. Probably wouldn't use it for much else as that could be too much of a distraction.
Can't run the app on my avh-x5600bhs with cd-ml100 add on. Any ideas?

Not sure about your stereo but on mine I had to change the phone connection to Mirrorlink from Bluetooth or Android Auto. When it connects the screen will show the Rockscout app. Then hit the back button and it reverts to a full mirror of the screen. Can't run the app until phone is connected via Mirrorlink.

It was installed when I had the stereo put in. They didn't even ask if I wanted it. They just did I it. I hear they are pretty cheap and easy to install. I believe you can find them on Amazon.

My one+ one doesn't have mirrorlink, but the app doesn't use traditional mirror link, if not mistaken.
Bump
It works on Appradio 4 with my rooted S5 and my unrootable S6 but it doesn't work well. Whenever to hit the home button it restarts the Rockscout app and you have to go through the splash screen again. It makes it difficult to quickly toggle to the TouchWiz home screen. Of course you can use the "back" key, but that's annoying if you're several layers deep in an app and just want to get to the home screen. I wish we could reprogram the home button after Rockscout launches.

Allow 720p/1080p video output developer options won't turn on/turns itself off?

Hi,
I've seen some fairly old information about enabling the "allow 720p video output" option in developer options, resulting in better quality image on certain head units. I wanted to try this out for my Ford Fiesta, but the setting seems to disable itself as soon as I leave the Android Auto app, and even if I enable it and plug straight into the car it seems to have no effect (not sure if head unit doesn't support it, or the app, or both).
I'm using a Nexus 6P. Tried reinstalling the app and it made no difference. Android Auto: 3.1.581054-release
Anyone else had this issue?
I saw this Android Police post https://www.androidpolice.com/2018/...ow-message-previews-hd-graphics-apk-teardown/ - it looks like Google are setting up to make HD projection functionality official, but for the time being I'd really like to play with these options.

I'm not sure no, but the app seems to reset the setting all by itself regardless of whether or not I connect it to the car - so like I said, I don't know if it's the app or the head unit.

Maybe your car doesn't support this.
This causes AA to reset this option.
What car?
AA wireless working on your Nexus?
Any wireless settings in AA app ?

Maybe, but that doesn't really make sense since as I mentioned, it being reset is completely independent of whether or not I connect it to my car (happens as soon as I close the app and open it again) and for all the app knows I could easily be connecting it to a different car next which does support it.
It's a Ford Fiesta Mk8 (2017 onwards). The car doesn't support wireless AA. I don't see any mention of it in the app - I think I read that it only launched in the US? I'm in the UK.

Have the same "bug".
I try it with my Galaxy Note 8 (Stock) and Note 3 (Custom ROM). I install crankshaft on my Raspberry Pi and activate 720p and 1080p.
If i activate the suppord for 720 and 1080 it works one time. After i close the AA-App its disabled.
If i plug my phone on again, i see a error, that my phone or "car" is not supported.
The option in Open Auto / CrankShaft is still activated.
I read somewhere that this issue should be fixed in next release of Android Auto.

Just installed 3.2.581534-release and it looks like the issue has been resolved. 720p and 1080p output seem to stay on after killing and relaunching the app. I'll test it in my car tonight but without the car, it works
Enabling the option really makes a big difference in my case. I drive a Skoda Superb 2018 and Waze looks totally pixelated without this option on. I was going to post this question in the forum because I also encountered the issue of disabling the 720p output when closing the app but I'm glad it appears to be fixed now.
