hi guys,
so im all set to pick up the s3 i9305 with 2gb ram and LTE. I'm in Dubai UAE but somehow all the malls & phone shops only seem to have the i9300 model. Now im aware the i9305 version released few weeks back but i cant seem to find any for sale... not even online!! the iphone 5 was on sale 3 days after it was available in september through grey market at mad prices... but the s3 i9305... cant find it anywhere! whats up with that? any insight??
TIA!
Google it - loads out there, even on Fleabay. You may have to import it. Presumably you have 4G in your area to be so desperate...
I saw a Samsung shop in Dubai, not sure what mall was tho, main one for sure..
If they don't I wouldn't bother as a few fakes are floating around out there.. Check it and make sure before you buy

1GB of RAM is enough, we just need it to be managed better.
Custom Roms already include some tweaks, i can run 7 apps together without closing / no lag with my current configuration (see signature).
If 4G isn't really that important to you, get a regular international version.

Trust us, either 1 gb or 2 gb you will be satisfied. I have the 1 gb version and works just smooth. Also as you see, there is better support for it than 9305.
However we still feel a bit phished by Samsung with all those different models, but as you see, most phones are 1 gigs (including iphone 5). With 2 gigs you will only waste the ram. Also, feels good to be one of those 20+ millions having this gorgeous phone, it's really feels good, because you know how much support you can get. Also 20+ millions can't be wrong

Actually, the LTE is still only a project on a piece of paper here, probably will start rolling out next year. So I'm feeling scammed a bit only because of the ram, as I paid about 800 4 months ago for my S3, now the price dropped and with the same price you can get the 2 gigs version. Nothing more and no big deal.
Btw, with my 3g I'm getting 8-9 mpbs download and around 4-6 mbps upload, which is more than enough for a mobile phone. Before yesterday, my home adsl connection was 10 mbps down and 768 kbps up and I never complained LTE still needs a better coverage, world wide coverage and maybe same frequencies in every country. Also, the lte is killing your battery much faster. Most of people still have no 4g and they started the development of the 5g lol.

LOL. Maybe a smart choice. Put those remaining $260 safely, so next year or after 2 years you can sell the S3, add those money plus a bit more and get the S4 or S5 The phones life is short in matter of updates, so is better to keep money for future releases.

Hello there!
What would the XDA community recommend atm in terms of "future development" - GT-I9305 or a GT-I9300?
The thing is: I would love to buy a Titanium grey version of the S3, but as it is only selled as an I9305 (with LTE and 2 GB of RAM) I would be forced to buy the more expensive one. Ignoring the price AND the question, if I really need LTE or not: Do I suffer a loss when I´m buying the I9305 in terms of ROM compatibility and DEV support here on the board? I assume that MOST of the people will stay with the I9300 right?
Theirs not really much in the way of "difference" between them except the lte chip and 2gb's of ram. Development should be near enough the same i reckon.

At the moment we only have 1 Rom, don't think it will even approach the dev of i9300.
Some people are still having problems getting stable root & custom recovery. I've got one but am still having doubts as to whether I made correct decision

its actually quite different...considering the number of I9300 that Samsung already sold, it is fair to say that a majority of those buyers would be XDA'ers and Devs...thus providing less incentives for the early birds to buy I9305...but in saying that, there may be some heavy weight Devs that may also invest in the development of I9305...but I doubt in the scale of I9300...
Its a bit like I9100G users I see in the I9100 forum...some-what deprived...until more recently...
if you are into your tweaks and roots...Ill suggest you consider I9300 or Note2...

Yeah... I started to regret my assumption support would be anywhere close to the i9300 soon after buying my i9305.
There's a serious lack of AOSP... But recently I'm trying out this new "Sentinel Rom" which is a mod of Cyanogenmod and seems really really stable, while promising superior battery life. Fingers crossed.

have you tried using 4G(LTE) connection? Is your country providing 4G network now?
Believe me, 4G network is way faster than 3G, even H+. You should consider a LTE model instead of a 3G model if where you live is providing 4G network because in a near future, it will be the main stream network.

Don't buy either, get an Xperia Z if you're buying last-gen, else buy HTC One, Galaxy S4 or wait for next Nexus, that is my advice. This device will never get "stable" AOSP.
actually, stock Rom is smooth enough for i9305 with 2g ram. you do not need custom rom.
most custom Rom have one common goal is to reduce the ram usage due to the hardware limitation of some old phone phone.

HTC on X + , i say ! Go for it
I would take galaxy S3
They are equal in terms of hardware (well... similar) but other than touchwiz being ugly for some people, it's packing some realy helpful features:
-smart stay, smartphone, smart omfgwtfbbq.
-compatibility with various controlers (usb otg)
-better battery life + removable battery (and you can buy an extension with a case)
-MOAR STORAGE<- sd card up to 64gb
but i own an Ace,,, why do you even ask here? ;P
Go with the S3! Would be a way better choice! Cause of the extra storage!
SGS III i think...
HTC Ui is always difficult to work with...
Even when you're using custom roms

If you prefer the design of the phone, choose HTC One X. But if you want better perfomance, go with Samsung Galaxy SIII
what are you talking about here?
i am in the same situation now. to chose from s3 and one x plus.
BUT
performance: s3 has quad core 1,4ghz, htc has quad core tegra 3 1m7ghz. here htc is faster.
both have same amount of ram.
both have the same 2100 battery but htc has a better battery life score on gsmarena.
are you guys sure you know what you are comparing here or are you comparing s3 with htc one x (non plus)
i am to decide these days so please reply.
s3
I think you should bye S3, It's very well supported by developers and Samsung Mobile.
give me more reasons to buy s3 tomorrow iwill place the order, and i am still not sure what to buy.
Samsung over htc:
better community support,
card slot ?!?!?! only 16gb stock(cheapest version)
maybe better app support (can anyone confirm this?)
htc over samsung
design, build quality,
extra headphones(urbeats by dre - i am using my 5 years old sennheiser cx-300)
64gb storage
smaller in size (a few mm do matter when you want to wrap it around a small arm like mine)
better hardware (1,7ghz vs 1,4ghz) but the same amount of ram
for me, they cost the same.
I would go for the s3. I think that touchwiz is not the best looking skin, but sense realy sux. Not to mention s3 got the note 2 suite with some cool features. Go for the s3!
Sent from my GT-S5830 using xda app-developers app
The one x+ had better build quality and better headphones for sure, but that is pretty much the only fields in which it beats the S3. You were talking about 64 GB of storage on the one x+, but the s3 has 32 GB internal AND an SD card slot.
So, using multiple cards, you potentially have unlimited storage!
The S3 has a faster processor, has same ram and is about to get updated to jellybean in about 2-3 months maximum.
Plus touchwiz isn't as bad as sense.
Also, S3 has a huge developing community. So you have new ROMs coming ever week! And kernels, themes and other great stuff.
Seriously, go for the S3. It's the only 'sense'ible choice.
now i bought the s3.
there could not be any crappier headphones than the ones included, so i must buy myself also a pair of headphones.
i hope it will raise to the votes received here.
Well.. I got the s3, UI pretty Damon awesome and gaming is awesome benchmark score of 5012

1. It's samsung. Easily rooted and a lot of development for it.
2. Removable battery + SD card. (Even if you don't use either, they can be pretty handy.)

S3 has a Exynos 4412 Quad chipset. Now, Exynos usually has amazing performance but most developers doesn't like to develop for it because of various reasons
HTC ONE X+ has a NVIDIA Tegra 3 AP37 chipset ...Now, I am not a big fan of Tegra 3..Just because it has a higher clock speed doesn't mean that it is the fastest phone out there
In fact, the best processor in the market right now is the Snapdragon S4 Pro..It simply is the best right now.It is also the processor that comes with the N4
S3 vs One X+:
Both will stand toe to toe against each other, but I think S3 has a small advantage over here with its plethora of innovative features such as Smart Stay and Direct Call.
This is just my opinion anyway

Yes, good idea like what I want to say
I must say I am not that impressed by this. Coming from i9000 cm9.1 I was expecting a lot more. Stock 4.1.1 is very laggy when unlocking. Each action must be done a few times to become fluent. I am very disappointed in the software development from Samsung.
I just installed cm10.1 to get a little more accurate responsiveness.
I really thought quad core was going to make a big difference but... Meh...

What are both of the s3 and s4 prices i mean.
In HK, the I9305 ( samsung galaxy s3 lte) costs around US$500 while galaxy s4 costs around US$756.
In this case, the price difference is US$256.
then you analyse if this is worthy to buy galaxy s4.
The battery is bigger ( volume) in S4 - but we all have portable charger, who cares!
The S4 monitor is bigger ( 0.2inch) then S3 - seriously, not much difference
The S4 monitor can display 1080HD, while S3 can display 720HD- Both are HD. For a big screen, like 50inch TV, you could notice the difference of 1080 and 720. However, come on, we are talking a 4 to 5 inch monitor and you were not an eagle ( with good eye sight), you couldn't notice the difference.
The S4 has more "floating " functions-- hahah, this function is funny, imagine how difficult you place your finger on top of the screen while not touching it while you are on a bus or while you are walking , moving , etc. What a brilliant functions hahaha.
And at the end of the day , will you spend that US$256 to buy the aboe mentioned "pros"?

I thought Samsung usually uses a numbering scheme that means a higher number is better than a lower one? In the case of the S3, i9305 is better than the i9300. Why did it change in S4 (i9500 is better than i9505)?

Based on what I just read in another thread, the 9500 DOES NOT SUPPORT LTE. Only the 9505 does, so that's one thing to consider when choosing between the two.

That information there is wrong. There are very many people in this forum that already confirmed that there are three variants of the S4. The GT-I9500, the GT-9505, and the SHV-E300S/K.

Hey guys,
I'm going to buy a new device but now I need your thoughts on something. I'm going to buy a Galaxy S3 brand new or S3 LTE (4g) secondhanded. The major difference is that the LTE version has twice as much RAM as the original S3. Will I experience this with normal usage of phone, so no heavy games etc. Give me your thoughts guys.
Ps: Of course I will keep this device, everything for me started with this phone and now I want to see how far we can go with this phone.
To stay away from a lot of problems caused by low RAM, the standard of RAM amount in Android devices (look medium range) today is 1 GB. More RAM means more multitasking performance and no memory problems for heavy apps, going through Android system slowdown while RAM is almost full. With 1 GB you should be ok, but not away from possible risks, especially if you use "always open" apps like Facebook/Messenger, Whatsapp, Email, Exchange Services... With 2 GB you are totally out of RAM problems, also because in 2+ GB devices the Android's lowmemorykiller (it's mainly because of this when you have slowdowns in low RAM devices, Android tries to close apps to free memory but when it reach the point where cannot close other apps? Slowdown!) is almost not used anymore, it's present, but you will never reach the point where Android uses it. About LTE, if in your town there is it, you can take advantage of faster network speed.
My suggestion is to buy LTE version.
Now depends from you, if you want a brand-new device that in 6~8 months, especially after Android L came out, will do the end of Janice (look at slowdowns caused by low RAM amount) or buy used LTE version that has the double of RAM.
The future is always behind the door, technology has big news everyday, you buy a device today and tomorrow it's old. More time passes, more future apps will require and occupy more RAM, leaving away new Android versions from this speech

If u want midrange then go for moto g u will never regret after buying phone like this

No quality of hardware ( scratches everywhere within 2 years)
No quality of software ( we have alredy faced that)..
And s3 is big brother of this s advance so........ Think
Why you want a plastic feel? I don't like anymore samsung phones. It has plastic and doesn't have that premium design. So,my suggestion: buy Nexus or Xperia (i want to get xperia ZR because it have removable battery). You will get a premium design

Maybe with his budget can buy only S3 device.
All Samsung devices suck while original, just change ROM to see it become to fly fast like a rocket.
Nexus 4 is a good phone too but battery sucks
I think buying a samsung phone second-handed would fit the budget well and give you the benefit of a great battery performance. Just 'upgrade' to any custom rom asap.
The plastic and old fashion looks also have an advantage, if you drop your phone here and there quite a lot. Replacing a screen on a slimmer new gen unibody phone would cost you a fortune!
I own a Samsung Galaxy S3 (GT-I9300, so 1 GB of ram) and runs so fast with a custom rom like cyanogenmod. About LTE version, I didn't test it.
Maybe Blu
What about a BLU brand, maybe a BLU Studio 5.0 C HD? I have not tried a BLU product but am impressed with the specs and the cost.

Already did haha nice developement in there. And Archi's CM of course About that KitKat update, I'll check it out.
I think I'll be more satisfied with the developement of the normal S3. And I really want to try Archi's CM.
