[Q] Demo Units? - Motorola Atrix HD

So, I was scouring eBay for a white "case" for my phone, I have the titanium one and I wanted to convert it to the white one, and I found a guy selling the "demo" units, those phones that are just a shell with a fake screen.
I was wondering if anyone knew if those were truly shells, in other words, could I buy one of those, and use it to replace my battery door/front bezel on my AtrixHD.
Thanks!

I don't think you can...in other words those are not real shells...

I do believe demo units are real casings. Typically they're real so costumers can get a feel for the phone.

Yea, I went ahead an ordered one, I figured worst comes to worst it's an $11 piece of plastic!

In my experience "almost" all of the demo units I've ever bought weren't casings.
But I'm guessing you'll confirm when you get your order.

Demo units

Looks like demo Ones are starting to pop up in stores. I was at my local Best Buy today (in Oceanside, CA), and they had both the silver and black demo units.
Two things: I LOVE the feel of that cool metal. It's super. And a lot of people were saying the black one is like a fingerprint magnet, but I didn't get that impression when messing with it. Even the bf, who has the world's sweatiest hands, said it wasn't terribly bad. May be different on the real thing though.
I called 2 Sprint stores (one corporate, one not) and neither had demos, but BB did! Anyone else been playing on demo units in their store?

The demo unit were actual working units or the summy versions? I know Best buy has dummy version on the shelves but they have actual working units behind the counter.
When I went into my local best buy a couple days ago they only had the dummy versions. I'm surprised yours has working ones.

Dummy. I didn't even ask the guys behind the counter if they had working ones, but I did go to 3 Best Buys and only 1 of them had the dummies.

I saw the black dummy model at one of my best buys. I get the impression that it's not the same material as the actual one because, like you said, absolutely no fingerprints.
Plus the pieces seemed too .. Together? And the power button wasn't click able. So I'm skeptical on how much of the actual materials and design was part of the dummy besides the look.
Plus why would they do the 200 minute carving process on dummy units.
Just throwing things out there. Not even that important.

Yeah, I was a bit skeptical because of that fact as well. I was really gunning for the black One at first, but I started having second thoughts when people were saying it was difficult to wipe the fingerprints off the back, since I was planning to use the phone naked. (That and the possibly of silver-colored metal showing through the scratches.) But I guess in the end I didn't have much of a choice in the matter anyway, since black release is still TBD. The dummy units still feel really nice though.

yea so none of the touch screen works people are tellin me it's gonna be 200 to fix so i might just buy a new one of wait till the google i/o just to see whats up . . it didn't fall too hard either though and i had a ringth slim case on it guess those don't really help all that much. using a backup iphone 3gs i.can't.live.like.this.
Oh man that sucks bro... I think slim plastic cases like that won't do anything if dropped... You needed some rubber.

I've been using the same case as you since December, and have indeed dropped the phone quite a few times. Fortunately, my screen survived. You got really unlucky there.

LCD cracking is pure luck. It all depends on which part took the impact. Your phone will most likely survive if it falls flat on a flat surface. If the corner hits, it'll most likely break.
I have seen phones survive 6ft drop and also seen broken phones from a 1ft drop.

First open it up and disconnect-reconect the digitizer plug from the main board. Maybe it just moved a little after the crash.
But yeah, even if it works you still have cracked screen so you will still have to fix it anytime soon.

Those plastic slim cases will not protect your phone, at all. At most, they provide a grip to your phone and prevent scratches from everyday usage.
I would advise on getting a TPU case in the future.

I broke mine like that, sent it to LG repair shop in Texas (have to contact them and get a return code first) and they ended up just giving me a replacement unit. Was nice cuz I ended up with a more solid phone, has the little nubs and all (it's a rev 10 though). Pretty much like getting a brand new phone and I was only charged like $160. Just make sure to back up your pics and stuff to your PC prior to sending it in, in case you get a new phone. I was quite happy.

Htc First Screen

Well my girlfriend just dropped her HTC First that she got less than a month ago on our linoleum floor and the screen completely spider-webbed. And when I say "completely" I mean the ENTIRE screen. The "gorilla glass" they supposedly put on this phone is more like fine China. It didn't even land on the actual screen....
Anyway, are there any replacement screens out for this thing yet? I know it just came out and my question will most likely fall on deaf ears but figured I would give it a go. Also a disassembly guide would be beneficial as well.
Thanks in advance

dude first of all gorilla glass only protects against scrachs not falls and not yet for the screen there ain't any around so be more careful with ur newly purchased phones
2 feet onto some soft linoleum should cause this type of damage I'm sorry. I've dropped my HTC one x onto the corner of a vice at work directly onto the screen and nothing happened. And also, the so called "insurance that we have said it would be 199$ to fix it and HTC gave me a quote of 150$ to fix it. Nice to know everyone stands behind the quality of some products.....
How about you tell my girlfriend to be more careful with her newly purchased phone? Wont really help too much at this point.

You could always check on eBay. But I doubt you will be able to find anything be as new as it is. I plan on disassembling mine sometime soon to play around. If I'm able to I will whip up a tutorial

very carefully lol theres a video for the htc one xl that shows how to separate them but there is a disclaimer not to do it if you are not a pro. You can try and see if a repair store will do it for you if you bring them the parts or wait till they sell them in one piece.

this same situation with cell of my wife. I bought a case but need to replace a screen. In at&t said that I should call CPR but they can't help (not typical model of HTC they said). Hey,
I'm happy to be a new HTC First broken screen owner now.
But since the glass is partially crumbling, wouldn't it be easier to separate it from the LCD ? Anybody has successfully repair his First ?

ouch my nexus7 it slid off my bed apparently. I didnt see how it fell, it was in a case but it didnt save it. I heard the thud, turned and feared the worse. it goes across the screen so its rather large.
its the 2012 32 gb version. Is it fixable??? most of the screen doesnt work, i can touch the notification area and it responds, but no where else, so it is basically inoperable. I google some stuff about replacing the digitizer or the screen? or both? how would i know what I need?
on another note, its the 2012 version and i could probably use an upgrade on the 2014 or whatever the new one is. But i definitely would like to repair this and get a new one. I hate having to let go of stuff like this and would like to repair it.
Check out on ebay you have to change the glass, digitizer and lcd (too risky to change the glass+digitizer) its fairly easy. You can check outr some teardown on google too and youtube. Good luck

hmm thats a nice idea, i might find something like that locally here. well I ended up going on craigslist and looking at local ads of nexus 7, and I saw someone selling a nexus 7 16gb for $100. I emailed and asked if it was still available and how firm they were. They replied saying they can let it go for 80 if I come right now. I just returned about an hour ago with a 16gb nexus 7. I am currently in the process of rooting with a rom as my 32gb was. I still wanna fix my 32gb so I will try this idea or something similar.

How is it fraud, I asked currys if they needed to see the tablet and they no because it was less than a year old they didn't ask if it had a broken screen and I've still got the insurance so there getting there money back anyway so think before accusing people of fraud
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
Its fraud because it was suggested above that insurance gets placed on the device AFTER there has been damage to the device. It was suggested that the insurance company wouldn't verify the condition...it's exactly what it sounds like...fraud.
