I had that problem when i had some tight jeans .
I have made a pin lock for the phone , something short , and set it to auto lock after 15 seconds so i will not loose battery
Also if you use the stock rom the phone wil not unlock unless you fully open the keyboard not just a little part of it .
You might have part of it broken inside. You could always take it apart and try to fix it. The only other thing I could think of is if you can find another Droid 3 that's broken, swap the motherboard and screen out and some other parts, then you could fix it.
It was loose from the first day i get it (Second Hand). But now its open and i will try to fix it
If something broken then i try to get a defect Droid to swap Parts like you said.

PLZ help im freaking out. i accidentally booted into the blue light mode, but when i pulled the battery and rebooted the backlight wouldnt work. i could see everything and even navigate my phone but only under a light. the backlight just wont turn on during boot and changing the setting doesnt help.
i dont get it the thing was working 10 minutes ago and now i cant use it what should i do? i love this phone but i cant afford a new one. is there a way to tell it to turn on during boot in the console?
ok new update the backlight works if i have the keyboard open. i know 100% its software and not the screen. something when wrong with the boot prosses or something.
i think the trackball boot (bluelight boot) must have options but wont display on the screen maybe. like a bios menu. this is very infuriating
Why don't you restore a recent backup?
i have even went as far as downgrading with the .nbh file. and re installing the bootloader (Just the original, didnt want a brick).
Definitely NOT a software problem.
This is a HARDWARE problem -- hence the fact that it works when the keyboard is open.
When you pulled the battery, you might have twisted/pulled something.
*** I would check the ribbon cable connecting the display to the main body!!!
Bluelight mode (where you end up by booting with the trackball pushed in), is just a serial console allowing interfacing with the radio firmware. Unless you actually had a serial cable connected and punched in some commands (which happen to be security locked, therefore wouldn't work for you anyways), bluelight mode wouldn't be able to do this.

if that were the case than wouldnt it flicker if i flex the screen/hinge ? ill try anything at this point cuz im outa warranty and have no money . im going to the store later trying to update to official 1.6 so i can convince them its software related and they may replace it for me.
oh forgot to mention that if i close it and open it the light stays off untill i hit end and unlock with menu again. im not to sure if that helps.
OK OK OK you are right. i just half closed it and the light stayed on untill it compleatly closed (so the screen flipped, i thought that is what triggered it) and then i got it to stay on completely closed and then the problem flipped to it wouldnt come on while open and now back to the way it was. so im going to go buy a T5 screw driver today and clean the contacts of the ribon cable and reinsert it (i have had experience with that just need to know what ribon. a pic would be nice)

There is only one ribbon running to the screen. Try THAT one.

There are two wires going to the screen.. sounds like the "top" one is loose... The jtag photos will give you an idea (it's the two com ports next to the jtag test points)
These are usually taped down very well..
Also you need both a T5 and T6.. the "Security" (has black void sticker) screw is larger than the others.. and a small flat head screwdriver to unclip the cover..
If all else fails: replacement screens seem much cheaper than the phone on ebay.

ok got it apart 3 times and no luck its prolly the ribbon cable. im going to test that soon. i have a donor phone comming soon from a friend who dropped it in water, the ribbon cable should be fine to use. if that doesnt work im thinking maybe it is software. either way if i cant get it fixed by next month im spending $410 on a new mytouch 3G brand new from the store and getting insurance XP
I was flashing a rom the other day (that i had flashed in the past and worked fine) and then i noticed that the touchscreen did not work. (everything else worked)
i flashed back to the cyanogen rom and my touchscreen still did not work.
(when i say my touchscreen doesnt work i mean that i cant touch anything, not even the android to set up my phone)
the trackball works but i am FORCED to touch the android and i cant
ive been flashing and still no luck, any ideas on what happened to my touchscreen or any ideas on how to fix it?
please help!!
I've seen a few of the threads. More than likely your touch screen has died (hardware issue - not software) and I'm not sure if that's replaceable.
Ask a technision :/ like the guy above said its proble the tS died may need replacement or ribbon isnt connected rite .
So whats my best bet in going about this?
i dont know what to do :/
if you feel like your able to take apart the phone and replace the screen, you could always try it. either that or buy a new phone or possibly a cell phone repair shop if you even have one.
i decided to kinda drop it.
it works now...
thanks for your help anyways guys!

I wouldn't be DROPPING it to fix it...
Problem is probably a badly seated ribbon cable, which means it is STILL not well seated and will probably happen again.
Look in the screen hinge as you're sliding the screen open -- see the little ribbons in there? Probably got yanked a little.
I swear there is a setting to keep the screen on while charging or docked but I cannot find it.
It would logically be under settings/display but its not.
Running CM7 latest nightly currently, and I swear I have seen the option, although maybe on a different Rom?.
I want to keep the screen from timing out while in my car dock. It stays on with CarHome Ultra but if I get a call the screen times out and then wont go back to to CarHome.
Any suggestions?

Settings / Application / Development. Now if you want to know why it is there instead of display, that one I can't answer
Thank you! I knew I had seen it someplace.
Applications certainly does seem an odd place for it.

i FOUND THE solution i have exactly the same problem 2 days i tried resetting , formating, hard reset, even rooting to diffrent rooms the problem was never solved .
i had following problem
1. the phone will automatically swtich to docking, its annoying
2.some time i got old galaxy s 1 home screen
3. when i put a battery it will show its charging which im not charging and will pop a msg high volage, also.
its not a software issue which ibelieve but the USB hub under your phone, due having contacts with moisture new phones wont have this problem, im not saying u guys may had dipped ur phone, but having ur phone in ur pocket or sweat is 1st problem and having a bath and ur phone is in toilet,
HERE IS THE SOLUTION
get a alocohol from pharmacy and wool, get a tooth pick put the small cotton at the head and run ur usb HUB rema phone has to be off take batt out, after cleaning u will see the USB hub is clean alot of dirt removed, then wait 5-10 min to dry never plug charger or else u will pay for ur mistake, after 10min turn ur phone on it will be total fine.
ITS THE DIRT WHICH IS STICK ON PIN 4-5 making Problem.
i hope it can help tht how it work for me
My milestone has led a pampered and then rough life of music gigs and festivals back and forth and decided to give up it's ghost (or give me ghost-touches if you will) due to a failing digitizer after a Dillinger Escape Plan gig (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AyzQgysUOdU I'm right in the center of the mosh pit hehe).
I've since decided that I'd save a little more money and get a Galaxy Nexus, even if I'd very much prefer a Droid4 if only to have a proper QWERTY slider phone. They don't sell them here .
Anyway, being that I've had to continue using my POS (can you tell I'm pissed) phone, I decided to look for a way to disable the touch screen and see how feasible it is to control with only the keypad and a few touches.
Which led me to these 2 apps
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.argotronic.touchblocker
Screen Lock / disable touch Argotronic
I've had it set up so that I can "lock" the touchscreen via shaking the device, and unlocking the screen in the same way. Despite disabling the touchscreen, the notification pulldown still remains active, so you can still pull it down and quickly tap yourself to whatever via the Dpad if necessary.
Now, of course, what use is all this if you can't swipe to unlock your ****?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jiubang.goscreenlock
Go Locker
This, apart from still bringing up the stock lockscreen whenever you restart your phone (this goes away after 1-2 unlocks), solves that problem by allowing you to unlock your phone via long pressing the volume rocker.
I've found that it is entirely feasible to run the phone this way.
Apart from that, I bid this community a farewell as what little regular posting I used to do has already dropped tremendously the last few weeks, and much thanks to everyone who has helped me and the developers. <3 Kabaldan, get a galaxy nexus please! though I'd suppose your talents would be better suited to another poor locked up phone.
This community helped me get quickly familiar with Android, and in particular with a "difficult" phone, and I will never forget this. I'll probably get a new digitizer + keyboard and just put it on my desk as a... completely over powered clock. or something. Hey, when was the last time you said overpowered when talking about the Milestone?
Oh, and to solve the gig/festival problem so my Gnex doesn't meet a similar fate I'll be getting an Xperia Active as a secondary phone since that **** is hard as nails, waterproof, small (3") and reasonably priced.
EDIT: Reason I'm not just fixing up my Milestone to continue to use it is because I've always suspected that my mobile radio is a little faulty as I've always had trouble maintaining 3G+ connectivity/sync, I figure it'll just crap itself out eventually. It's also, and I'm sure most will agree, starting to become painfully slow hahah.
If you are willing to take a little risk, after taking out battery, SIM card and microSD card, worm up your phone by putting it in the oven over a towel or on a blow heater (yeah, for real) for a few minutes. Then, you will need to put it in a dry place (like drawer or something) during the night. Turn it up in the morning and it shall work.. it worked for me anyway, I was sure my phone was dead and the digitizer was damn busted.. it must have been moist from the inside, so I used to have very annoying ghost screen..
good luck mate..

Hmm, I completely forgot about this!
I had done some drying with a hairdryer, I had originally noticed that the ghost-touches would get more severe if it spent an hour or two in my pocket, but completely forgot about trying it to dry it a different way. I'll put in a bag of rice tonight!
Thanks
Putting your device in the oven could really fix your problem. I've heard of this before in a different context (fixing gaming consoles..). What it does is fixing soldering points by melting them. Connections between cables and the board are then (hopefully) fixed again.
There are several methods including the oven, microwave, hairdryer and so on..
moe6 thank you for you post
will try the screen lock app
i have no need for the go locker, with cm7 you can unlock the phone by sliding the keyboard.
i have two questions
how can i answer/end a call easily without the screen?
is there any way to have a back button routed to the key board?
i use "search+z" to start(swich) back to my launcher
i guess i will try the oven trick but i really concerned if i will break the milestone completely. should survive a few week.
that poor old thing

Good thing you thanked the top post, I would've missed your post otherwise .
Yeah I know you can unlock via keyboard slide but I have my phone caseless and its always in my pocket and it tends to slide open just enough to unlock it occasionally .
I answered calls by using the d-pad on the keyboard. Just tap it once and it should begin highlighting buttons on the screen, press d-pad center button to select. Unfortunately for you, my back button did still work as the "dead" part of my digitizer was on the right side of the phone where Home and Search is.
I think the drying tricks help mostly with ghost touches since I'd assume that the ghost touches are from small amounts of water/sweat/liquid. After drying it with a hairdryer, short bit in the oven and then stuck in a bag of rice, my ghost touches stopped 80% from what they were before. The digitizer is still dead on one side though.
Now all I need is a Droid/Milestone dock and a new digitizer so my old Milestone can live its life out as a very complicated desk clock
You can actually make it work real good without much issue. You'll need a CM ROM so you can enable the Menu to unlock option and then use v6 Supercharger Bulletproof Apps to lock the screen disabling software into memory so it doesn't crash and it doesn't run bad at all. Also, there is a really good app to remote control your phone from your computer so if you have adb and a data cable, you can get it working good.
Do you know what that app is called?

I personally use AirDroid, it's amazing.
Hi all,
I recently purchased a new housing case for my xperia x8 and changed out the internals myself. Everything seemed fine untill I realised that the left hand side and top part of the touchscreen are now offset by roughly 50 (pixels?). This makes typing a complete nuisance as I have to keep turning the phone to hit the correct keys. It also effects other things such as games and pulling down the notification bar.
I am wondering if when I took the touchscreen out of the old housing I have somehow broken it or managed to offset it somehow? I have had a look in various .conf files to see if there is any way of changing the settings of the touchscreen but haven't managed so far and decided it's time to ask for some help.
Is there any way of changing the settings of the touchscreen? or should I just bite the bullet and buy a new touchscreen?
Thanks in advance
S
PS I have already tried formatting and resetting the phone and even changing ROM's but the problem still persists.
Touchscreen cable ribben is broken.
Some place can touch and some place when u touch is crazy. Guess I know.
U shud buy a full front housing with touch panel.
If u take out the panel from housing. If luckily 30% will save.
No more try, new panel u shud find.
