Yep, checking texts and yep, BAM...Snatched and sprint.
Police report or Tracing did nothing.
Anyone know of cases that also have chains?
Thanks
The official Samsung protective case has a slot for a lanyard, but I doubt it'd be strong enough to withstand it being snatched from your hands (or you might be left with a case and no phone)
I think some of the aluminium bumper cases have lanyard slots and they'd be a much safer bet for something like this. If I'm mistaken about the lanyard slot you could also insert one between the headphone port and the 2nd microphone, but that might cause issues with noise cancellation.
I think a lanyard with the official sammy case will stop a snatched and grab.

If you have a strong enough lanyard, just find a case that works with it. Make sure it is a tough case and it will be strong enough to stay and not break or at least make the snatcher think it isn't worth it to take one.

Yep glock on my butt crack n gerber auto knife in pocket...but if you shoot a fool for that your goin to jail lol, although if its on your hip not concealed and its seen it might detur (sp) somebody trying to rob you....thats f#cked up man sorry
Bit of a sidetrack, but regarding the 'carry a gun' thing, no. Showing a gun on your hip doesn't scare away the really motivated criminals.
It makes you target #1.
And a good video to go along with the info:
Ignore the comments because as usual, on Youtube they're half ignorant and half truthful and half bat-poop insane and half of all phrases using "half" are made up percentages.
This might be a good off-topic conversation so as not to derail the current thread...
That's terrible about your phone getting stolen. Over the weekend I saw this on the news (see link below) about thieves stealing phones and selling them at the mall. I never heard or seen these kiosks before.
http://video.msnbc.msn.com/nightly-news/52009921
I wonder if something like a Sling Grip or Fly Grip would reduce the chances of someone taking the phone out of your hands. It's not full proof, but it could hinder the thief.

This video doesn't even talk about the visible presence of a gun being a crime deterrent. Unless you mean concealed carry instead of showing a gun on your hip.
However I do agree with the majority of the points presented.
Going to geek out for a second, but if the perceived reward for the criminal is greater than the perception of the sanction against the act (i.e. getting shot or caught), then the criminal will try to 'get er done' anyway.
In other words, if the person open carrying looks like a target, they will still be a target, but now with a higher priority and more likely to receive a violent opening to the event.
The average Joe doesn't practice with their firearms anywhere near to the level of a soldier or law enforcer. Their retention self defense is minimal along with the very popular Serpa holsters or Uncle Mike's holsters that allow anyone to yank really hard and pull out the weapon.
All that being said, I'm a big fan of concealed carry.
Concealed carry is the dumbest argument for this kind of situation. What would you do? The person snatched it from your hands. A concealed (can't be seen) wouldn't deter the person. You weren't vigilant enough to stop that from happening so you're going to pull your gun and put other innocent people at risk?
And a gun on the hip and can be seen is a bigger danger as far as I'm concerned. One sucker punch and an opportunistic criminal is taking that gun off of you. Another gun on the streets in the wrong hands.
I'm not against guns and all that...I just think some clueless people that watch too much TV think they can go buy a gun and go to the range once a year and all of a sudden are experts on self defense.
I don't know about you, but I don't want to have to kill someone over a cell phone. There's no telling if that person that took off with the phone is carrying either and I don't know about where you live, but here it's usually a group of teens and they could care less about really running half the time. You just have to know to be vigilant when things seem fishy. And if you ride public transportation watch at all stops.

Say if you were to wear a chain when the thief was snatching your phone, you'd end up injured. Any material thing isnt worth your well being, man......... or woman.

Sorry, I'm the OP and been ultra busy for days.
Regarding gun carry, I had two of them and didn't stop the snatch and sprinter.
(ok...I'm kind of kidding but I'm a personal trainer, 210pds fit with arms (guns) exposed etc. Stupid joke but....it's all about surprise and speed....and I am (very) fast...a sprinter!

I took off but didn't have a chance.
Really crowded sat afternoon in Chicago too... he ran down an alley...I screamed: 'stop him'...guys at the other end of the alley had 5 sec or more to react but just stood dumbfounded and watched him run by. (I guarantEE U, I would have stopped him and enjoyed it, had roles been reversed).
Cop said it's the #1 911 in all of Chicago now.
Easiest $200-$300 to snatch.
Why can't stolen devices be made completely unusable by Samsung/carriers...like completely.
It' d solve the problem.

I think the visible chain would be a deterrent....they do size up their victims, and seeing that...would likely have them look elsewhere.
If it didn't, don't think much of an injury would occur.
I'm not joining the carrying the argument. All sides have valid points. Although, I did find the two videos interesting.
As for your case situation, it's hard to say what would work best. Not much if you're just using a cheapy TPU case. If you had something like a Defender, you could cut slots, feed some material, like what is used for dog leashes. On the end, inside the phone, I would super glue it to flat piece of strong plastic or metal. The other end, super glue it to form a loop. The material would maintain comfort. Personally, I think it would get old fast.
As a general rule, to really prevent it, one needs to pay attention to what's going on around them. Obviously, you must have used the phone a bit earlier and the thief saw and followed you, noticed you weren't paying attention. We know the rest
Also, sorry to hear about your phone.
OP: Are you not setup with the Samsung tracking facility? I'm surprised nobody has asked yet?

So lately my wife has been working a lot of evening shifts, and for the past couple months has been carpooling with a male co-worker. At first I didn't mind, I would rather have someone with her in case she has car trouble or something like that, but it seems that they have become a little bit more than friends. You know the scenario, the phone calls that hangup, she starts wearing nice clothes to work, talking about him all the time, etc. I don't know what to think. If I'm out in the garage when she gets home (usually after midnight) he just drops her off and leaves, but if the lights are off in the garage and I'm in the house (they think I'm sleeping) they sit out in the car for like twenty minutes. I asked her once what they were doing, she said "just talking"....whatever.
So last night I decide that I'm going to see what really goes on out there. I leave the garage door open, but turn out all the lights. About the time she usually gets home, I go out and hide in the garage and wait. In a few minutes, his car pulls into my driveway, and I'm hiding behind my car. When his headlights shine through the garage and onto my car, I see something that I just can't believe. I had a big scratch on my Tilt screen. Do you think I should use screen protectors?
Yeah you should use one of those touchscreen finger protectors lol

Sounds like your wife might be needing something like that too.
I must say the satire of this thread is classic!
lol yeah the first give away was
" she starts wearing nice clothes to work"
everybody know us males see clothes as binary
on and off and thats it
if friends family and coworkers gathered around me and
said that as a practical joke they had all been wearing the same
clothes every! day since i met them i would not be able to
100% write it off as a lie to tease me
nice one!
bR
?????
Thats soooo stupid.......Thats the dumbest story I ever heard .....
OK now install a screen guard and then get back on the case. you can use your tilt as a camera ,so hide next to the driveway with all the lights off in the house. when they start to talk, wait a few minuets until they get into the conversation and jump out and snap the photo. Then post here with update. we are all waiting. Also this would be a nice time to use her charge card for that 60" plasma hdtv. or if you ever thought of getting a Hummer H3! now might be a good time. share with her your fears, then while she's feeling guilty pop the Hummer or Plasma into the works. Start with the Hummer the shock will be so great that she will have no choice but to ok the Plasma! just a thought from Uncle Ed!
Yeah, as if he wouldn't receive the bill for that
very funny!! very creative man.....

Hey guys
Hope you can help, last Friday on my back from work around 5:30pm I was hit head on by a crazy woman cutting the bend in the road.
I'm not at fault IMHO, as I was on my side of the road and she had cut the bend and gone straight into me! I was going 15mph and she said she was going 30mph when questioned.
What I was hoping you could help me with is good sites I could visit where there maybe cameras recording the daily. This could be Police, camers, Neighbourhood watch, or even just people who like recording the days activities on their road
My car has been written off, the woman is claiming 50/50, I have a witness (but didn't see the accident happen but was on his drive and saw straight after imapct where I was and where the lady was).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
TIA
Do not accept 50/50, do not let your insurance company try and rail road you into it either.
Remember you're entitled to demand your car be repaired if it has only been written off due to economic reasons (although if you've agreed it can be written off it might be too late), and can state which repairer you want used.
Let the police sort it out. If there's CCTV footage they'll know. (Despite the number of cameras, there's never any around when you need it though).
Seriously, i don't know what's wrong with people in this country. Three times this year i've had to swerve off the road because of some idiot that's drifted into my lane. It's like something out of Inception where everyone starts to attack the 'invader'.
Thank you for your responses guys.
xaccers I'm definitely not going to give in, as it was in no way my fault, luckily I have a witness who happens to live on the road who saw the aftermath immediately after she hit me, and he could see I was on my side and that she was half of her car was on my side of the road. The car has been written off and the guy was garage were saying it would cost more than the car is worth to repair, I then checked with my own garage, who confirmed it is too much.
DirkGently1 - yeah I should let them deal with it. But I'm sure they won't do that much as I hear they let the insurers deal with it lol. Yes I am soo annoyed with people cutting corners, why can't they just stay on their side of the road? This woman had all the space in the world on her side and still had to cut the corner, unbelievable.
As you can imagine, I'm soo angry with this situation, why should I have to pay for someone else's mistake? Is it wrong to contact the person involved and talk to them about this?
Thanks again guys
Did you take photos of the scene? The first thing i'd do is whip out my phone and start snapping.
Good luck, i'm sure the truth will out.
Yeah took photos, but she had reversed her car onto her side of the road before I took any pictures.
Also have resident on the street as a witness, so fingers crossed really.

Good to hear
My first accident, I was 18 in the outside lane of a 2 lane road, my lane was for turning right up ahead at traffic lights and it was clear all the way to them.
Lane 1 was full of stationary cars queuing due to the lights.
Out from a side road came a lone woman in a Skoda who didn't look my way until she was right in front of me.
I was only doing about 20mph but she pulled out so close I hit her B post.
She drove over to the other side of the road and I pulled up on my side.
My bumper was damaged and the O/S wing was peeled back.
She insisted we knocked on strangers' doors to phone the police and report it (who told her just exchange details if no one was hurt).
We did, she drove off, I waiting for the RAC.
She then claimed that I had been speeding, had hit her so hard I'd pushed her to the other side of the road (ignoring the laws of physics obviously), that I had psychologically damaged her, which made her husband frustrated due to her going off sex, which made her eldest daughter give up at school, her son need to see the school psychiatrist, and her 3 year old daughter wet the bed. She tried to sue me for £1500 despite admitting liability.
My insurance company first tried knock for knock, so I told them where to go and got them to fight it.
It went to court, I had flu at the time, we turned up at 8am on a Monday, spoke with our barrister and the representative from my insurance company's solicitor who'd gotten the 6am train from Bristol, and wondered where the woman was.
At 8:30 the bloke from the solicitor got a call to say that after 5:30 the Friday before her solicitors had faxed through a letter stating they were withdrawing their claim!
So they deliberately sent it too late to stop us attending court, wasting the court's time too. Our barrister was absolutely livid anyway as her solicitors obviously hadn't had a case (she also claimed never to have suffered psychological disorders but didn't realise we'd get to see her medical records which showed she had in the past).
I'd sold the car in the meantime so was awarded an amount that covered the loss of value due to the damage.
Damn Skoda drivers.
Hello,
i am thinking of buying this phone since nexus6 will probably be 5.9" but i have concerns about 4 infrared lights constantly working on front of the phone, does it pose any danger to my genitals? When my phone is in my pocket they will get scaned quite alot.

IR is just another color we can't see. It can penetrate clothing if it's strong enough but certainly incapable of causing DNA damage.

Lets say they sold 1000 phones so far, I would guess more but lets be very conservative. 6 "cracking by itself" in 1000 phones = .6% chance
I think we should post on this over and over since it is such a huge chance of happening.
Two of those are also the same person.
The screen is ridiculous flimsy. Putting pressure on the screen easily distorts the display. Sony went cheap with the glass. Don't sit on it, that's for sure.

Mine is solid too. No flex or distortion at all. And I would say 0.6% is a bit high. Their total sales are probably greater than 1000 by now. Probably closer to 1500 so that's more like .03 - .04%
But not all the 1500 user complain on XDA or the web...

Who said anything about bending?
There are YouTube videos showing the issues with the screen/glass.
I am receiving a second Z3C in the office Friday. I will check it report back.
As for sitting on a phone, this should not be an issue. Everyone is acting as if this was never acceptable practice. I understand that things have changed and phones are getting thinner. However, would you not think a portable compact phone should be purchased for pocketability? I think it's outrageous people are so quick to dismiss and write off this simple and basic concept. And for what? For the sake of being a fan of a company that only wants your money? Apple, Sony, Samsung... They don't give a crap about the consumer.
Pocketability, to me, has never meant you can put a glass phone in your rear pocket.

WHY would you put your phone in your rear pocket and sit on it? It's bad for your back and CERTAINLY bad for any thin piece of technology with glass on it!
Not to mention rear pockets are easy targets for pick pockets...

I'm not concerned about pick pockets. If they want my phone, the could take it from my hands just as easily. So, I guess we are not to put our wallets in our rear pocket either?
I don't sit on it for long periods of time. More time than not, it is out of my pocket while seated. The issue I have is with these excuses for manufactures. I'm not starting a lawsuit or demanding a refund. I'm simply just annoyed by the arrogance displayed. Pointing the finger at consumers for using said devices the way they have been used for years.
I can see the phablet argument. Those devices should not be on your pockets. (brief periods of time) But seriously, a compact phone that risks damage by pocket? That's hardly looking at the real audience your catering too.
Its not damage by pocket. Its damage by weight and force.

My rear glass cracked by itself. I have had my phone since launch (2 weeks now), and used it with care. There was not a single (micro-) scratch on it (no protection), never dropped or otherwise misused. So as to the reports they are scratchy - imho that's not true.
I put the phone on my desk, picked it up 30 minutes later, and noticed the rear glass was cracked. Picture attached. As you can see this is not the kind of cracking you get from dropping, smashing, or putting tension on it. The crack is beneath the surface - I can't feel it. The phone is on it's way back to the shop now, and I'll hope it will be a warranty thing.
Also, on a major Dutch tech-forum there are several stories about cracking glass (3 or 4 now, did't keep count).
It's a real thing! :crying:

Please stop this discussion on back pockets, whether or not that pocket is suitable for phones is not for discussion here. All the reports I posted said front pockets, and that is concerning.

:crying:

So I take it that the phone wasn't cracked before putting on the table? Did you something on the phone before that could have caused it to heat up?
I've put together a Google forms survey to collect some objective breakage data:
Sony Xperia Z3 / Z3 Compact - Glass Survey
Please take some time to complete the survey whether you've experienced a breakage or not, it's important to have a complete set of data. You will be able to view the survey results after submitting the form.

No, I'm quite sure it wasn't. As far as I know it was idle, just being stand-by .
"spontaneous crack"
like all the screen cracks ive seen before. Most of the time the user actually cracked it (fall, sit on it, etc.. but mostly falls where "oh im lucky nothing broke") and with some more use the crack propagated. yeah with plastic or metal it woulnt propagate tho.

Yeah, until someone is watching at the exact moment their phone spontaneously cracks, I'm not believing it. The way some people talk about the Z3C is like if you breathe on it too hard it will shatter instantaneously. My wife dropped her's from chest height onto hardwood floor with no case, screen protector, nothing. Not a scratch. Yet other people, drop it from a foot up, or having it leaning an it just tips over, and breaks... seems odd. Not calling these people liars, just that there must be more to it than that. Probably something along the lines of what bilboa1 said.
Some food stuff right here. Amazed at both videos...
Pretty unexpected to me
Galaxy Z Fold2 | 2 Days AFTER the Water Test & Water Freeze Test
Sam is a BEAST
Not a bright idea at all. Freezing water can easily fracture granite and has been used like this for quarrying. The amount of pressure freezing water* can exert is enormous. What could go wrong?
"Something Samsung didn't mention about Fold2: it had an anti erosion waterproof coating on the main internal components. Doesn't make it waterproof, but should help it survive a dunk."
In other words all it has for "waterproofing" is a conformal coating on the PCBs. The ribbon connectors are not waterproof... all those contact surfaces. Let's see if it fails in the next month or year... or today.
A sick joke of a vid... don't try this at home kiddies
*water expanse approximately 9% as it freezes. Anything in it's way... moves. Ice is not compressible no more than water and the laws of hydraulics come into play.

I think you missed the whole point of the videos. Dude, you're just becoming a troll now. I really don't get it.
You've made it clear you hate the Z Fold 2. You don't have anything nice to say about Samsung. Honest question, why do you spend so much time in the Z Fold forums? Why do you spend ANY time in the Z Fold forums? There's plenty of phones I don't like for one reason or another, but other people do like them. That's why they have their own forums. It just seriously baffles me.

Simple physics. Posting bad intel like this absurd vid misleads members about the durability of this device.
My thoughts based on facts.
This upsets you? You'll really going to ticked when you find I was spot on...
The joke's on you. Deal with it.

Well, for one the video isn't made to encourage anyone to freeze their phone. Not is it intended as a demonstration of how the phone should be treated. The author of the video even states this in the videos.
I never said I was upset. I asked you a clear question, which you failed to answer.

I choose what I feed a troll, which threads I create and post on.
Don't ask questions that don't have any answers.
As for that phone surviving the ice challenge intact, it didn't.
What's next the salt water challenge?
A good vid for you to make...

I realize you choose what threads you post/create. It's obvious you are just a troll. You make no contribution to this site at all. You just confirmed it.
Again, no one said it survived intact. You're putting words in people's mouth. Again, you're just being an obvious troll. I'm done wirh you. You can leave now.

God bless you Mr. O... I think that's how y'all say what I'm really thinking about you.
Here's some more info about the sealing technology or lack of on the Z. Wonder if that fiber seal holds water? They would pack the drill holes with sawdust, add water then allow it to freeze when quarrying granite over a century ago.
Saw dust, fiber seal... perfect and Freeze!
Redirecting
A fiber seal doesn't seem so clever as it only seals out some of the dust but not water.
Maybe on the next Fold generation Samsung will get it right.
Don't hold your breathe on that though...
Ahhh... That's better. And he's gone. For me at least.

Trolls are like bullies... they can't take the heat.
Or owe up to being wrong.
I doubt if anytime soon I'll need to admit the Fold series is a reliable, dust/water sealed phone with a display that has survival rate close to the one screen flagships.
A cool but fundamentally flawed design.
All those glowing reviews are pig slop.
Add this absurd vid to that collection of disinformation.
