[PATCH] Bug fixes > Froyo V5 *7/27 leak* (Fix: Browser, Gmail, Market, Stream Audio)

[PATCH] Bug fixes > Froyo V5 *7/27 leak* (Fix: Browser, Gmail, Market, Stream Audio)
Figured it would probably be worthwhile to roll an update zip with the fixes for the leaked Froyo release which have been identified thus far.
Patch contents:
Fixed force close issues with the browser when interrupting a page load or loading a URL out of email/RSS and hitting back. My patch will replace the browser with a deodexed version from the Evo 2.2 official (but pulled) release, which eliminates this issue.
Streaming audio fixes. This is NOT the same as the build.prop change found in other threads. The patch will replace the stagefright libraries using versions from the Evo OTA. As a result, the fix will not degrade Quadrant performance and should solve the streaming audio quality issues present in the original leak.
Market fix for missing apps. Changed build.prop such that the phone will identify itself as an N1 running Froyo (credit: adrynalyne).
Gmail app replaced with working version. The version included with the leaked ROM is terribly broken (such as adding 0s, not being able to open labels, etc). Patch will replace it with the latest version from the N1, which works great.
Superuser reverted back to 2.1, which despite generating sqlite errors in logcat works more reliably than 2.2.2. Should eliminate the issue with root elevation requests taking a long time after first booting.
Installation:
Apply the zip via CWM as usual (can be re-run anytime, such as for updates).
Be aware, this patch will clear your Gmail and Superuser data automatically. Thus, your phone will download your mail again and you will need to approve apps requesting root (only after first applying the patch).
Changelog
Version 5 - Fixed streaming audio and reverted superuser to 2.1.
Version 4 - Fixed browser force close issues.
Version 3 - Updated Gmail to 2.2.1 and automated install process completely.
Version 2 - Fixed Superuser so that permissions persist.
Version 1 - Initial release.

thanx for this
Worked. Thank you.
Thanks, much appreciated!
RMK- Thanks for this.
There is an issue after applying your patch where Superuser permissions does not 'remember', and reprompts on every SU required app... And yes, 'remember' is checked.
My super user is doing the same thing, won't remember any prefs.

same here, was you problems after the patch or before?
Is there any way to fix the 3G from not coming on on reboots? I've had this probelm a few times now? Wonder if its widespread?

Ugh, yeah, confirmed.
Looking into it now.
FYI, this patch does not include the fix to disable the stagefright media player in build.prop, which is supposed to fix the crappy sounding AAC streaming audio.
applied this update.
my gmail app force closed on boot. couldn't restart it even after reboot.

Did you clear the cache under settings/applications?
Could someone tell me what version the gmail app is?
Thanks a lot.

Probably because adding that also hurts performance.

Clear data in the application info. That fixed it for me.

Version 2.2
Updated version to fix the Superuser permissions not persisting properly, sorry about that guys. Go ahead and just apply the new zip file on top of whatever you have now, will work just fine.
As for the media streaming change, that was intentional for reasons already mentioned. You're trading one problem for another, streaming quality for performance. Anyone who desires that "fix" should have no trouble applying it to the build.prop included with my patch.

No that I am aware of. As fixes get released for these issues and are confirmed to work I'll incorporate them into this patch. But yeah, nothing for the 3G issues right now.
GMail force closes and will not under any circumstance load up... Dang good thing I backed up the previous version.
UPDATE: Clearing cache Helps but It blanks out every so often and says "Your e-mail will display shortly". I'd rather have a 0 in my e-mail. Can't wait for the official update because the version in the Leaked ROM is very promising.

Put the file inside this zip to /system/lib/hw (you need root and "root explorer" application).
Enjoy

Stock d4 JB via kexec

Run stock JB without flashing OTA!
flash this zip to a romslot instead.
REQUIRES SAFESTRAP 3.11 (due to increase in system partition size )
Only tested with ICS boot.img so far but it might work for people who've already flashed the OTA.
This is the Full Bloat edition
might do a slimmed version later.
Download: http://d-h.st/g5f
Bugs:
haven't tested much yet beyond booting and going through setup.
working:
hwc
lcd
1X
3g
4g
sound
wifi
compass
keybaord
capslight
bluetooth
etc...
not working:
???
Edit: romslot 1 only for now
thanks, man. too lazy to SBF, and the OTA keeps failing because I must have modded my build.prop. until I get some time to grab a build.prop from stock ICS or just bite the bullet and SBF back to stock, this should hold me over

Thanks! I'll give it a run and report anything out of the ordinary!
No Wifi Tethering?
I just installed this from Rom Slot-1 and it looks good so far, but first thing i noticed was that I could not do Wifi Tethering with Foxfi (or built-in hotspot) It says that the carrier has blocked wifi mode in Jelly Bean... any ideas on how to get around that?

there is an entitlement check in settings storage, looks like there is a way to hack it by editing sql database for settings storage. trying to find an easier fix....
Edit: delete /system/app/MotorolaSettingsProvider.apk and odex and replace with this: http://www.mediafire.com/?e5o6pgju49d0tih (deodexed apk only, no odex file)
wipe data and cache and it might just work. NOTE: wiping data and cache is mandatory.
Confirmed working, and this hack should also work for any stock JB based rom.
edit: it works but deodexing the apk seems to be be causing FCs ,I'll try injecting the modified resources into the odexed apk later

Look for sqleditor in the market, scroll down to settings (the icon with the wrench), settings, then change line 66 'entitlement_check' from a 1 to a 0, and reboot. Built-in hotspot will work

this is a zip of the odexed apk and odex with new resource injected. tether works and no more FC's, no sql editing necessary.
these can be added to the zip beofre flashing, or pushed to /system/app/
new flashable zip, with previous fix and adbd as root. http://d-h.st/gJq

i have a debloated mostly deblurred version almost ready to go if anyone is interested.
todo:
strip out the blur framework files and whatever else is useless.
better tether icon in settings.
mod overlaysettingsprovider settings to not try setting up deleted apks, and set sensible launcher defaults.
replace blur phone/telephonyprovider (this will require resigning all platform/system apks and fixes from hashcode's build for telephony stack)
done:
browser - aosp 4.1.2
camera/gallery gapps version
calendar aosp 4.1.2
removed lots of bloat, and everything available on market.
modded build.prop to make vvm from market work, deleted blur version.
removed entitlement check so tether works.
restored aosp settings icons.
added aosp launcher, works good but has issues with webtop.
Would 'smart actions' work with the de-blurred version if I restored from a Ti backup?

I noticed two problems:
- at boot pin is not required
- battery count is wrong
Can be they solved?
The original JB OTA brought the phone to version 98.72.8. It's now trying to install an update 98.72.16 - do you have this update integrated into a flashable file yet?
edit:
Never mind, I grabbed the file from your 2nd link now, and I see that it's 98.72.18. Would be good to just edit the original post and change the link there, so other folks don't go thru the trouble of downloading the old image first, like I did.
Of all the different Blur JB versions out there, this is the only one that wouldn't boot loop or result in a black screen. Granted my Stock ROM slot is still on an ICS version, so I'm sure that is the main problem.
I'm too lazy to want to SBF my stock ROM slot so this is a great alternative for now. Thanks!
Yeah, same here, the other ones I tried would just bootloop.
I'm still not convinced I want to stay with it. I like the "Sleep Mode" option in the powerdown menu in ICS. Also, this one spontaneously reboots on my at random times, I have yet to notice any actual trigger for that.

Xperia Z NFC problem.

Hello there,
I was running the latest android 4.2.2 on my device when I installed the current version of CyanogenMod for the Xperia Z. Since using the mod, my NFC no longer works, which it did previously. I tick the box, it stays grey and then unchecks itself. I have tried 2 fixes to no avail, both "NFCfix" and "possible nfc fix).
Is this a commonly known issue and is there a fix? Many thanks. Stephen.

Backup your data and flash to the firmware before the latest, reboot and then re-install Cyanogenmod, worked for me.
