[Q] Help disabling the LED Notification for Gmail messages - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I was wondering if someone could help me disable the notification LED for incoming emails using the Gmail app? I don't want to completely disable notifications but don't want the LED to flash!
Cheers

If other mail led notifications are not important for you. Settings>Display, gestures&buttons>Notification flash> uncheck the mail.

Yeah I tried that as well but it didn't work. I think that probably only works for the HTC mail app. Doesn't look good!

There are some applications for the led notification in the play.google.com

Under the sync settings, I found that there is a setting for Gmail notifications, apparently part of the normal mail program. I see an icon in my notification bar when a gmail email comes in.
The LED only flashes when the notifications are turned on inside the Gmail app - and then I have two notices on my notification bar.

So there is a setting under Accounts & Sync?

Yes, under "Mail". Then one chooses Account Settings / gmail.com / Notification settings.
This is with the stock TMO ROM, and the stock mail program.

Cheers for that - not sure it's what I'm looking for though as don't want to add the gmail account to the email app and have the gmail app as well.

I'm not sure now, but I think the gmail account is automatically added to the built in email app.
In any case, both are set up on my One, but I only check the built in app.

[E-mail vs Gmail]

This is probably an android noob thing, but I cannot seem to understand how to use the "email" app and the "gmail" app.
I want to use the stock/default android email app, you know, the one with the black background? However, I am seriously annoyed by the fact that when I receive a single new email, I get two notifications in the notifications bar; One from the gmail app and one from the stock/default email app.
How do I use this? It's required to set up a gmail account for marketplace to work. But I hate replicate notifications.
Do I just delete one entirely from the app folder?
Whats the best way to work along/around this?
You can turn off the Gmail apps notifications by delving into it's settings.
Go to gmail app, hit menu, go to more, select settings, uncheck Email Notifications. Gmail app will no longer notify you.
but if you just turn off the notification it will still be syncing in the background so if you dont want to use the gmail app go into accounts & sync and under your mail address uncheck sync gmail
the gmail app is used for just that, gmail. the email app is used to connected to exchange servers, pop3 accounts, imap accounts, basically any email that isnt gmail.

you get two notifications because you have set up your gmail account on Email app. Gmail app is way better than Email app (my opinion)
Option1: Delete gmail account from Email app and just use the Gmail app.
Option2: Go to Gmail app settings and disable notifications and use Email app (it will still be synchronizing).
Option3: Uninstall Gmail app and use Email app.

Agreed!
If only I could make my ActiveSync account (work Exchange) to use the Gmail app for mail display instead of Email.apk's viewer.
Personally I think the Gmail app sucks ****. Its so annoying to see the Gmail notification (like push email) and then only go into Mail to actually read it after hitting refresh.
Real cockup in my opinion, but then again I don't hold android in the highest light anyway.
I personally like the gmail app. I never need to press refresh. My push works great. I see the notification or the green trackball (color I set for gmail) then pull down menu and select the notification for Gmail and it loads that message right up.

That's pretty much wrong if I understand you correctly. If I get a notification from the Gmail app of a new mail, I press it and it's right there in my inbox without having to refresh it first.
I also like the Gmail app better than the built-in e-mail app.
The Gmail Push?
I have nexus one, it normally syncs every hour (i set it so)..
Why dont I get the push option? (my operator supports push mail)
If you use Gmail app - the push is automatic and the only way. You don't configure the sync time, because it has no such option.
If you use Email app for Gmail - check if you can set it to Automatic(Push) option (it's the topmost option on the list).
If you set Gmail as Exchange, it can push. If it's set as IMAP then it has to be set to poll.
Ok did that, and and yeh, its push.
Its a lil slow though (it gets a lil delayed).. but Im glad it works..

[Q] Why do I get Facebook notifications?

I have turned OFF all syncing with FB in the sync settings. I still get notifications when I recieve a personal message... Any clues?
kill the facebook process in running services
this has annoyed me too, that app should really respect how we set up to disable sync.
it also annoys me that it automatically adds facebook contacts to my phone contacts when I only want numbers there (what's more it adds them with pictures >_<) just like gmail. however with gmail, if you choose not to sync this does not happen
so what i did was just to uninstall that app and browse fb using opera
Go into the settings of the Facebook app...

Turning off Syncing in FB app does not disable FB notifications! You have to go to the FB main screen and then press menu button, go to settings as pre-poster said. There you can disable notifications.

how to read gmail messages on your gear?

I believe you can add your gmail account to the stock email app so gmail will show up on the watch but do incoming gmail have the push feature in the stock app?
Thanks

What is the name of the stock email app, trying to get step by step instructions to this.
The stock app auto-configures Gmail as "push." I'm guessing it's IMAP behind the scenes and it only applies to e-mail, not tasks or the calendar.
Try this, it is working for me for Hotmail.com and Gmail.com accounts.
1- Went to Stock email app(looks like a white envelope with @ symbol in middle.
2- Created hotmail.com account(dont go through manual process of setting account) and selected "push" for sending emails to Note/Gear. Put your email address and password, follow the steps and you are done.
3- Create gmail.com account and do the same as step #2.
4- Go in your Note to Settings-General-Accounts. Select the Google account and hit enter, Uncheck box by Sync Gmail.
This is how I have it set up and Hotmail as well as gmail emails are coming into the Note and Gear.
Someone correct me if I am wrong.
Ian B
I am getting proper notifications for Gmail account by pushing the mails to the stock Email app also.
It's working very nicely.
If you set up Gmail in the stock email app, can you still use the Gmail app to read and rely on the phone?
I like the Gmail app as it is seamless between phone and laptop in terms of marking as read, sorting into folders etc.

my email notification is not working as well. tried wit imap and pop but it's not showing
guys anyone here with a working email notification?
You need to enable the pop3 support in the Gmail settings page first before adding the Gmail account to the stock Email app.

Can't get this working either, no notifications from stock email app with my 2 gmail accounts. Notifications are set for stock email and accounts seem to be pulling mail down so not sure why my gear isn't telling me I have mail

You need to use stock email app and when you get to a screen about server, there is a drp down option and select push. You need to also go in your ear app and in setting, there is a section for choosing which apps to send to Gear. Select stock email app, send yourself a test email and should work.
Ian B
That's exactly what I did, no notifications though

See post above me. Make sure you DO NOT choose MANUAL in the stock email app when setting the gmail account choose the option to the right of that for the system to do it all for you. In the next page I believe is where the drop down option at the top is to select PUSH.
If you like, send me a pm with your phone number and I can call you when you want. I think that will be easier than trying to go back and forth with emails.

Yes, in the PC browser, go to your Gmail page and then to Settings.
There you will see tab menus on the top. Choose Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.
Then, you will see the option to enable POP.
After that, you can just add an account in the stock email app to deliver Gmails with the option of "push" delivery automatically.

Weird as I did not have to touch my MAC to get the emails from Gmail to work with my Gear. All I did was set up the account in the stock email app, select the auto set up, select PUSH in the next setting screen and voila, emails coming to the Gear. I did have to go into the Gear app setting and check the email app to send notifications to the Gear.
All is well in my world and hope we can help one another get their emails and texts going.
Want to remind everyone that only the stock text and email apps are allowed to send info to the gear. If you are using something else, you may get the notification but, nothing else. You will then have to go into the phone to view the text or email.

Hy
I've had the same issue, no notification at all, i've tried everything, but now solved it.
Everytime i've sent e "test-mail", my phone (galaxy note 2) was not in sleeping mode. As i gave up trying, suddenly my Gear was pushing a new mail that came in.
So for me, it only works when the phone is not awake (what makes sense in my opinion). Hope that helps someone others problem too.
Good luck.

That makes sense to me. I don't want the notifications to clog up my watch if I am already looking at the phone.
That only wastes the battery life of the watch. Smart!

What email app are you guys using?

Curious as to what email app you guys are using on your P9's and if you get notifications?
I tried the default app for gmail and it only shows inbox and not sent or other folders which is a waste of time for me, all other emails apps dont show notifications unless I open the app and thats with the permissions set correctly.

Boxer Mail.
I don't use its calendar or contacts but works fine wih gamil, with imap,.... Altought all my accounts redirect to my gmail account, I read from Gmail and write for my personal domain. With boxer I can do it.
Before I used Outlook but I had problems with IMAP refresh. With Boxer I haven't problems.
