what audio chip does HTC ONE uses? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I know HTC ONE has Beats Audio Boomsound to power the 2 speaker.
But what is the audio chip does it use?
I have Sony Xperia Z pair with Shure SE215SE(blue) which i think a perfect match for the music i listen to the most.
Just wondering if i switch to ONE, will it deliver the same.
I listen to k-pop the most, which is very many electric instruments and bass.

Audio chip?
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium

what does it matter? it sounds good.

ATI Radeon Sound Blaster. Yeah yeah that's what it has
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium

Not sure about the audio chip. But the speakers is surely sound incredible. And yes, sometimes I listen to k-pop songs too, and I'm impressed with the speakers performance.

uses the stock snapdragon 600 chipset. Same as GS4 (US variants)

"snapdragon 600 variant GS4 will come with Qualcomm's own audio chip, perhaps the same one found in my US GS3 (WCD9310)."
I read GS3 has wolfson chipset which i like very much but not the most. Sony Xperia Z (not sure the chipset) is the one i love the most pairing with SE215
Too many people focus on the boomsound, but i will use the headphone jack when i am on the bus so it will depend on which engine to juice it.

The One does indeed use a Qualcomm WCD9310. I've read it powers up to 80ohms

Loud speaker

Hi guys.. looking at buying a 2x but need to know if the loud speaker is any good. Best phones I know of are iphone and Motorola for best clarity loudness and bass.
Thanks

From what ive read the speakers on this phone are brilliant..... probably because of the dual speaker arrangement similar to the iPhone!
I have an atrix but it suffers from data disconnection. I was thinking the 2x would be ok.

The Optimus 2X has only one speaker connected to both the right and left output of the Wolfson audio codec. The second cavity hosts the microphone. The service manual for the SU 660 shows this, so I think it will be similar for the P990
So what does it sound like?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
Like a phone .
Not bad IMO, better than HTC Desire and Desire Z which was my last two android phones, more deeper sound, and can be used as speakerphone, which I could not so much with my earlier HTC phones.

Hi there; note that the reviewer states that this is a 2x pre-production model (though IMO, unlike software, hardware dose not usually change in this phase...) & lists the 2x as having "below average" quality. See the chart below for details.

Well, imo it has well above average quality.
Whether it's the reviewer or me who has trouble hearing, or if the actual pre-production model had a flaw, i can't say for sure.
It's in a different league than the Desire, thats for sure, but i guess most phones are.
IMO the sound is good on my P990
Better than HTC Desire, HD, and so on.
About the same as Samsung Galaxy S
It looks like a dual speaker, and I noticed that one of them delievers treble, and the other bass/middle tone (if it is called that? - directly translated from danish)
According to the Swedroid review "The external speaker can not quite match the fullness and volume that we experience that the Xperia X10 mini performance, but the exception to this model belongs to Optimus 2X the best we've heard one of the Android phones we have tested. We raise the volume to 100% is the sound quality is still good and we find neither of noise due to the chassis vibration due to the speaker distorts the sound, but it is both clear even at maximum volume."

since I posted this like a gazillion times by now, let me reinforce my statement with the actual exerpt from the SU660 Service Manual
I attached a part of the schematics concerning the audio codec from the Service Manual (page 67 if you happen to have it yourself)
The important part is concerned with the outputs
SPKOUTRN
SPKOUTRP
which are the + and - lines for the right channel and
SPKOUTLN
SPKOUTLP
which are the respective lines for the left channel.
As you can see both outputs are bridged to one physical speaker output (SPK_N and SPK_P) so there is only ONE physical speaker, which receives both the left and right channel signals.
Hope this clarifies this once and for all.
Can more people comment on the speaker loudness and quality? Currently I am a Nexus one and I can't even hear the speaker ring from another room. Is it much of an improvement?
How does it compare to other phones like Nokias?

Yes I agree
The speaker is a lot louder then desire z but there is hardly any base. But for pure sound its not.bad at all. You defiantly could play out loud in noisy environment. Its a mono speaker similar to Nokia n8 speaker

It would be nice if you post this kind of questions to Incredible S Accessories Section
I have the $350 ones and they are sooo awesome! They work great with incredible s

I have iBeats, they're great but you have to have the right equalizer... With stock htc beats EQ the sound is not that good. With DSP-Manager it's frickin awesome! But without DSP it's just a normal pair of headphones not worth 100€... They can handle a lot of bass and that's the way they should be used
You should give beats products a miss. They are like apple, but in the audio world (as in too expensive for what it is). If you really want a good pair of earphones, visit head-fi.org and read some reviews there.
It mainly depends on what you want from your earphones/headphones, and your budget. If you want extremely high bass, I think the monster turbine series are worth a look.
If you want to impress people, though, get beats.

I guess people are so against beats because they are pretty expensive. Of course there are some cheaper alternatives, but I don't know... Beats are kinda cool And the fact that the sound is bad is just a rumour that spread through the net and people just took it without trying them themselves. I also reeeaaally love the sound! The only thing that borders me, is that my left ear apperently as a too weird shape to keep these things in there where they should

I don't think anyone has identical ears, it's normal for one ear to be bigger than the other. My earphones medium size tips fit my right ear, but are slightly too big for my left, and the small is too small
No offence

Some could be fake, but the general rule is, the more expensive they are, the higher quality their sound is. The most expensive beats headphones are supposed to have the least bass.
and yeah i remember talking to a service guy at the htc service center, he advised me not to get the beats headset because i wont be getting the desired effect on incredible s...just because our device does not contain the beats equalizer

Beats EQ is not very good anyway! Try Beats with DSP-Manager on our IncS and you'll get a way way better effect than you'll get with Beats EQ on ONE X Trust me, I've tested it...

I don't really know what you are talking about but you can improve sound a lot if you use DSP-Manager from Cyanogen.

Beats audio in 2011 htc phones are only software, not sure about 2012. So if you install beats audio into your phone, it should sound the same as other 2011 htc phones.

Well - why buy beats? AFAIK it's mainly a product line sold with Dr dre's name, and they're said to be rather expensive and of rather low quality. That beats app to my knowledge mainly applies some equalizer settings, and buying a decent headphone set and applying a roughly similar equalizer with an app of your choice should give you similar or even better results at a comparable price IMHO

Sony are great. But the Software in the headset itself is pretty weak. I usually have iBeats but have to send them in for repairs so I'm using my spare Sony ones. You really have to do alot in DSP to unleash their full power, because they really can handle a lot of everything but the software in the headphones won't let them. It's like this:
iBeats - Hardware 60% / Headphones-Software +20% / DSP +20% -> 100% ... Software makes awesome sound of avarage headphones but if you tweal too much it will sound weird.
Sony - Hardware 80% / HP-Software -20% / DSP +40% -> 100% ... Software in the headphones suck but they can handle a lot of changes in DSP so they sound pretty much like Beats.
Other Stuff: Beats definitely look better, Beats have earphone wires with SAME lenght (With my Sony ones the right one is 4times as long as the left so you have to wear it over your neck which looks stupid and feels uncomfortable also.
Price: iBeats: 70€ /including lots of ear gums(don't know the right word), clip for shirt
Sony: 35€ /including clip but no ear gums and the stock ones are very small
So, I think this explains a little Hope it was worth typing
buy jays-a-jays four or one+
Much better and cheaper than beats
5!
Try with Altec Lansing, trust me, the best quality and perfect sound for acceptable price (somewhere near Sony).

It is awesome. Let me explain why. The soundchip used in Boomsound speakers are not only for speakers. HTC intigrated that technology into headphone jack too so you get that high quality sound when you plug in your headphones too.
Yep, I tried it, crystal clear.
I suppose that GSMArena review isn't that reliable, seen their comparsion S4 vs HTC One and audio quality there is from some other galaxy
Could anyone support me with some more reliable audio test, i'm very interested in HTC One headphone audio quality? (With some decent headphones, like B&W C5)
Comparison threads are against forum rules
But it's not really a comparsion thread, we are just trying to find out how good the HTC One perform with headphones.
Could anyone post a good audio review (not GSMArena) or post the Rightmark results here made by themeselves?
You're comparing the audio quality against other phones, which is very subjective
But feel free to carry on, dont mind me

I'm going to get shouted at for this.
I have a pair of Dre Beats Studios, and iPhone 5 and HTC One, and a recent memory of a HTC One X, now sold.
With the Beats Equalizer on through a pair of Studios, it sounds absolutely fantastic, better than my HP DV6. Things aren't so good when you turn that equalizer off, however that's more due to the fact that that sound enhancement was designed to be used with a pair of Dre Beats
As for the iPhone, I find it's audio to be a bit tinny when played through the Dre Beats. I think the sound level is slightly higher on the iPhone, but to me the HTC One wins everytime. And if it's vs boomsound, I think we know who wins :victory:
HTC one with audio technica m50 (actual good headphones not marketing) the sound is brilliant using spotify on high quality, I will test on my iPhone today before I sell it

Headphones - Unbranded beats?

So,
I've been putting my One to use today with it accompanying me on an internal flight in the UK.
Instead of using my SoundMagic earphones I decided to travel with the ones included and well, the audio quality is amazing, and a fair bit better than my usual headphones.
My question is, are they unbranded beats or just some decent unknown headphones by HTC?
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
Possibility is they take advices from Beats or have them monitor the engineering of the headsets.
Hox earphones are great too but I dislike them because they are on ear despite loving the flat cables. If One's earphones is that great. I might ditch my Sony in ears

I agree, i had a pair of beats that came with my sensation and they were uncomfortable. The head phones that come included with the ONE are pleasant to wear and produce top notch sound quality for a stock pair of earphones. Well done HTC:good:
I compared with my Bose, urbeats, HTC's which is comes in box, galaxy S2 & S3 headphone and found that supplied standard headphone is best one and I found no different between urbeats and supplied one so I can sell my urbeats
But Urbets has a better grip in-ear

If the stock headphones are as good as people say, that is tremendous news. HTC should promote that fact harder, and consumers won't have to spend an extra £30 to £50, on getting decent sound quality.
I have to agree. Sound better than my klipsch s4 with the bonus of added button and tangle free cord. Will compare to my sound magics in a bit

I'm wondering if the US carrier branded versions of these phones will come with the headsets as well. I haven't received a set of headphones with my phone since the Touch Pro. I'm sure it's probably under the carrier's discretion, but it'd be nice to have them stateside.
Imo I think the earphones are the best iv had with a phone but still a pile of #### the bass is simply way to saturated and lacks any replication of real bass sounds I.e. a bass drum or kick doesn't sound anything like a real kick, my cx300 2's and even beats tours are ey way better then the stock included ear phones however massively better then any other included and as good as ear pods by apple.

Pretty sure normal ones. The red ear tips ones that comes bundled with One. HTC stopped bundling beats earphones awhile back.

I wish they had volume controls.
They do look like 'Unmarked Beats', however, i saw a little rumour the other day telling me that they were actually made in the same factory, by the same Manufacturer / Supplier as Beats. I may be wrong, but he is quite high up in the Mobile Industry. . .
Not a chance these are unbranded beats, take it from an owner of that many ear/ head phones including beats tours and urbeats the bundled earphones are so far away from even urbeats in terms of sound quality they are like black and white. The earphones are very good for bundled but so far from any idea of audio clarity seen in beats earphones, anyone owning a set of tours will tell the same after hearing the bundled set.
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
what i dont get is why they dont have track controls like most bundled earphones?
im assuming the button will play / pause music and answer / end calls only? ive not actually used them yet
I have now tried a couple of the earphones and a couple off apps to allow for music control from the mic button presses on the earphones, but have not managed to get the HTC one skip track, let alone change volume.
Therefore I am thinking maybe the phone itself may be the issue (it always re-dials the last called when I double tap the button on the earphones)
Anyone had success with any earphones on the HTC one? (please don't comment if you have used a different HTC phone, as this problem may be HTC specific) if so, please help with specific details.
Thanks

I have the UR Beats as well for comparison. I agree that the standard headphones are weaker when reproducing bass, but otherwise the clarity and overall quality of sound reproduction is very good. If you travelling on public transport etc the free headset is actually a good option.
