I have a rooted HTC One (802w China model with two SIM slots). The local carrier (China Unicom) placed some awful bootanimation in the /system/customize/resource folder (names CU_bootup_animation.zip etc.). I tried to get rid of them using Root Explorer and deleted them from the directory. This works fine, switching on and off the phone now only shows a small android logo.
However, if I do a phone restart those files are automatically restored from somewhere and the bootanimation is back :crying: . Anyone knows how to get rid of such files permanently?
Many thanks in advance!

Update 2:
So now I can see most of the files with ES, but OI file manager isn't seeing them. What the heck is going on? Ghost files?
Alright, so I'm in a bit of a pickle.
I was having problems with Rdio and wanted to wipe all traces of it from my phone to install an older version. Using ES File Explorer, I searched for all the files related to the app in "/" and once I found them, I foolishly used select all and delete. Problem is, it seems "select all" actually selected all the folders in / and not only those found using the search function.
The odd part is I can see all the folders in / when I use OI file manager (though some are empty, namely /data and /datadata), but not when I use ES.
Does anybody have an idea as to what I can do? Odd thing is the phone is working fine and not all files on it have been deleted (the files inside EFS seem to have been though, but I still have signal). I'm afraid to reboot it since I figure it might become bricked. I've got a recent Nandroid backup which wasn't deleted, so I'll be fine if I can get to recovery, but is there any chance of that not happening?
Anyways, I'm feeling really dumb and stressed out.
Thanks for looking and/or helping!
Cheers!
Update
Making a call seems to have restored the files (.bak and others) in the efs folder and some other files seem to be reappearing. Maybe if I just wait it out all the files will come back from the dead? Files that weren't showing 10 minutes ago are back and are dated earlier than today.
Again, I'm mainly looking to know if I can reboot into recovery (or normally?) without many problems.
Thanks!
Hi
First post here, I'm new to Android and rooting but I know my way around computer systems in general so hoping you guys can help me, haven't seen a thread about this exact problem so far.
I've semi-bricked (bootlooped) my Samsung Galaxy Ace running Gingerbread, having rooted it last month using the upd_1 package and enjoying a bloatware-free phone, happily installing apps onto my second partition on my SD card. I've not changed my ROM, just the stock is good enough for me for now. However I was getting continually prompted by Homescreen Selector nags at powering up for some reason and I thought I could disable it by applying Freeze using LInk2SD, but since doing that I continually get the Samsung logo, the orange "explosion" (I'm with Orange) then a vibration and the whole cycle repeats. My guess is the operating system can't find the selector.apk app since I froze it.
I thought the solution would be simple - use adb shell to rename back from selector.fro to selector.apk. However I'm unable to find any such file in my system/app folder. There are a load of other apk and odex files but not that one. When I type su I get "permission denied", though I definitely rooted my phone but I don't think I have my bootloader unlocked.
I don't have CWM installed or any backups unfortunately (yes, I know...), so even if I took one now prior to a factory reset, surely the same problem would come back if I were to restore from any backup I were to take now. I can get into Recovery and Download screens ok but don't want to restore the whole ROM unless I have to, since I know it's only one APK that is at fault.
So, please can anyone tell me how to locate the selector.fro file to turn it back to selector.apk? Or can't I do that without unlocking the bootloader first, or is there another solution?
Many thanks in advance,
Graham
Wouldnt it be possible to make a zip of the selector.apk and flash it? Rename the zip-file to "update" (since you're unable to browse to your specific file).

Hi, thanks for the response
Do you mean copy a zip of selector.apk to the SD card and run it from there, same as I did when I rooted? Where can I obtain a copy of that apk from? I can't find it on my computer or via Google...

You can extract it from the ROM's zip file, just locate it as you would on your phone.
But I don't have a ROM zip file. I'm not using a custom ROM, just stock. I may go down the custom ROM route one day, but for now I just want my phone to work again in the quickest way possible.
All I need is a copy of the original stock home selector APK. Can anyone help here please?
Found the file!
Never mind, got the apk from another thread. Flashing tonight...
I have the original bootanimation.zip in the correct directory, I even tried to install a few different animations with Rom Toolbox Pro, but my the screen after the red M logo stays blank until it loads to the main screen. I don't know what I did to remove my boot animation but any help to get it back would be appreciated. I'm running stock 4.1.2.
Did you check to make sure the permissions are correct on that zip file.

the partition is set to read only. I'm using AntTek Explorer.
I used root explorer and checked everything under permissions. any other suggestions?
I could still use some help with this issue, thanks.

I was given a P9 as a gift.
It was simlocked to Vodafone so I unlocked it with dc-unlocker to use my 3 SIM instead.
I would like to remove the Vodafone branding on the phone by replacing the ROM with a stock one.
I am unsure where to get this and how to install it.
Can someone point me in in the right direction and explain how?
My primary machines run Ubuntu but I do have access to OSX and Windows machines if need be to assist.
i think there is no full firmware yet anywhere?
I have the exact same question! I can purchase the P9 through Vodafone for £329 unlocked but I would like to remove the Vodafone branded firmware. I will be keeping an eye out for firmware posts :good:
You can get the phone payg from Vodafone for 300 plus 10 for a payg sim, ask in store. Ice done that, unlocked the phone, and works fine. Debranding will follow, but for now it's an awesome phone for that price!

I need a stock rom as well. I decided to give the phone to my wife after using it for a day and had issues wiping it. Finally restored the stock recovery and was able to wipe.. thought all was well. Fast forward to today and a few settings don't work properly and the themes app no longer works as well. Would like to reflash the full rom if possible. I even applied an update from one of the other threads but that didn't fix the problem.
I'm waiting for mine to be delivered so this saves me asking same question
How did you find DC unlocked? Any good

Excellent, but I chose to "read" the unlock codes from the unlock menu rather than allowing the app to write over the firmware. Much safer and worked a charm.

I had the same problem but managed to get themes working again as follows:
Download the stock themes from http://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-7/themes-apps/huawei-mate-8-huawei-p9-stock-themes-t3354404
Create a folder /data/hw_init/system/themes on the phone (thanks to this thread for the pointer)
Put all of the hwt theme files in this folder
Change all the permissions so that directories are world-executable (i.e., chmod 755) and files are world-readable (i.e., chmod 644)
Reboot and you should be able to apply themes as usual

Did have any other problems aside from the themes missing? I've also had problems with changing my voicemail call forwarding number which worked just fine before I wiped it. Also had other random glitches that weren't there before the wipe.

I don't use voicemail so I'm not sure if I have that problem. I did notice that the Huawei Fit app (or whatever it's called) has disappeared. But I don't mind since I didn't like my lockscreen reminding me how unhealthy I am!

Thank you.
Can anyone describe this process clearly please? Also, the links to the P9 themes are dead too.
Many Thanks
