but what about your BRAVIA2/DRM keys???
I thought once you unlock BL it formats the TA partition...?
Ah I give up I'll wait until some easy options.... what I got was you cant backup your TA without root----> You cant root without your BL unlocked ( firmware .253 for now), you will lose BA2 and Drm if you unlock your bootloader.... So the question still rolls how to root your Z tablet with Firmware .253 without unlocking BL ?

maybe because the tablet is still very new, theres not many out there that people have their hands on..
might be best to wait until its been released world wide and a lot more of this is on demand?
perhaps.. does anyone has say .344 or earlier... firmware? I can make my firmware's back up first and then downgrade and then root it, do TA backup for future's sake, and then unlock the bootloader

From what I read, TA needs to be backed up before any BL unlock. once its unlocked the TA partition is gone for good along with the keys...no way of ever getting it back

Any chance you could make an FTF, im guessing yours is unbranded / SIM free?
I want to remove the o2 branding from mine.. .
Theres a guide on how to create FTF files, but it does mean you will have to restore your phone to stock...no worries if not, im sure a Generic Global FTF will appear shortly.

A quick note on root, it works fine, but, there are some residual issues:

Even if i mount /system as RW... a few seconds later, device reboots...?
I'm on O2 UK Branded firmware.
[Bin4ry]
Yes thats what it does. It has nothing to do with a faulty root, it is just a security option on the Xperia T which should prevent modifications to the System partition. When i have time i will take a look and tell which daemon on device it is so we can kill the daemon and modificate the system partition.
Regards
Ok, i rooted my Xperia T with the above method but when i change something in the System folder the phone Reboots and puts it back to how it was
any ideas??

----EDIT----
Working perfectly now. I just installed V13.
Use V13, i restored my phone completely using PC companion, then re-rooted, i can mount /system as RW, replace files etc..all ok.
Worked for me.

Read the all in one thread in the Q&A section. All your answers are there.
Briefly.
You can easily get a free unlock and easily root if you dont want to unlock.
You can easily flash stock sony firmware without unlocking or rooting.
Basically read the all in one thread and ask any questions there

Hi there!
I've unlocked using flashtool, installed CWM Recovery and rooted using the recovery-only root.
Now, I need to return the phone to as stock as possible - certainly removing root, but relocking the bootloader would be a good secondary objective.
My current plan is to use the flashtool to relock the bootloader, then use the PC software to repair the phone. Will this work?
Thanks for your help
Edit: I've searched the forums but can't find an answer, including in the starting thread - please link to a relevant portion instead of the whole thing if possible
Further edit: There's no 'relock' option in the flashtool - huh?

As of now there is no option to relock the bootloader. You can unroot the phone by simply performing a repair system command in Sony PC Companion or flashing a stock rom. This has been explained in every single rooting or custom MOD thread.
Ya you are right. Relock bootloader using flashtool and repair or flash a ftf from flashtool.
And IIRC in the beta version of flashtool u will find option to relock under BLU. And btw u won't get back DRM keys and no Bravia engine.

Rooting does not void warranty, who told you that.. There is a difference between rooting and bootloader unlocking. To change your customization number, you need to root without bootloader unlock. By the way, after flashing the new firmware, every trace of the root will be erased, so nobody will ever know that you rooted your phone temporary.

Many websites say 'rooting' when they actually mean 'bootloader unlocking'. On that website, they're talking about bricking your phone and custom ROMs. That means they mean 'bootloader unlocking', because custom ROMs are not possible with a locked bootloader. While it's possible to root your phone by unlocking the bootloader, that is not always required.
For many Xperia devices, we have software exploits that allow to root your phone without touching the TA partition or bootloader. This means that all traces of the root will be erased if you flash clean stock firmware and Sony will never know.
This is not the case when you unlock your bootloader. If you created a backup of your TA partition before unlocking the bootloader, you could always restore your phone to factory state, but Sony will still know that you requested a bootloader unlock key.
Like I already said, you only have to root your phone temporary to change your customization number, without unlocking your bootloader. After flashing the new firmware, all traces of the root will be gone, so this method is completely safe and will not void your warranty.
By the way, did you edit your original post? I see you're asking firmware version 10.3.A.0.423 now. This is currently only available for the 'Generic TW' customization for C6602. This can be used perfectly in Europe and USA however. It contains all languages. You can find an FTF here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2337838 or change your customization number to 1270-5691 and update with Sony PC Companion.

I was playing around with 4.3 last night and found a solution
- Flash the .67 firmware via flashtool
- Root 4.2 as you would have
- Backup the TA partition and Unlock your bootloader to relock the boot loader and avoid losing any DRM keys later
- Using flashtool flash the new firmware .569 (4.3)
- Then flash Doomlords advanced stock kernel
- Boot 4.3 and power down
- Using the recovery installed with the kernel flash a superSU.zip from somewhere around here.
- Reboot and you now should have root
- Reflash ONLY the .569 kernel from the FTF
- Power on and Restore your TA partition to relock your boot loader and return everything back to normal with root

It's the unlocking that kills the DRM keys.

No way right now to root 4.3 locked and when it will be found you will find a lot of propaganda & at least sticky thread for this in The Developer section .

Thanks .. its working the root and my bootloader is locked ..

I don't get it ... so you are saying that you unlocked your unlockable bootloader? And you managed to root the latest update? That would be cool! But if I am not mistaken there's absolutely no way of unlocking a bootloader that is not allowed to be unlocked by the device. Anyways that would be cool if the devs give us this nice gift! But then again I am unaware that you can unlock the 4.3 as yet.

Hi there xda community.
I have been interested in rooting my android devices for quite some time now although with my previous phone I had no such luck (given it was a Samsung galaxy s2 with that damn Australian custom kernel)
Anyway I'm here now cause all I want to be able to do on my Xperia z1 is plug in an xbox controller and use that, online it is said I don't need a root, that I should be able to just plug it in and go (with the otg cable of course) but no such luck, my phone doesn't not indicate that it's recognised, I am running 4.2.2.
Will I need to root to be able to do this after all?
My phone specs are:
Sony Xperia Z1
C903
4.2.2
8974-AAAAANAZQ-10270011-23
3.4.0-perf-g66807d4-02450-g9a218f1
14.1.G.2.259
Is this unrootable?
Thanks in advance.
It's your Model C6903?

Then you should search more carefully, there is no direct root like Vroot, 360 or Cydia for .290 and .136 FW. The only way to Root Z1 is with THIS method by NUT. You have to Downgrade to .534 FW provided by NUT to not lose IMEI, Root with Bin4ar, then Update first to .290 with the instruction provided, then when you have .290 rooted follow this instruction HERE
Watch the Video tutorial Hot To Root on first link.
Okay so I now have my Xperia rooted at .136. I'm hoping now there is a way to connect a wired xbox controller, but my phone doesn't indicate that it's connected. Apologies for the questions.

Good, don't forget to click thanx. :good:
About connect Xbox Controller, what I know it cannot be connected natively because is not supported. The only controller which can be connected is from PS3. But you are Rooted and I think this can pe possible in some way.
First, try different OTG cable because I got the same problems like yours with my PS3 Controller, look HERE.
Then when you have the right cable and everything should work try to follow this Thread Hot To.
Good Luck. :fingers-crossed:
One last problem, as your probably aware now that my phone is rooted ive lost camera funcion, is there a fix for this?
Also I appear to have lost data, so I cant use the internet without wifi.
Are you sure that you only rooted? Sounds like bootloader unlock to me

I followed all of the instructions the links in the posts prior had. How would I manage to unlock the bootloader?

Rooting device won't cause losing any camera functionality.
However, unlocking bootloader on 4.2.2 will do permanently damage - I hope you watched what did you do...
Procedure is quite clear, root firmware 534, upgrade to 290 - then unlock bootloader.
Sony fixed camera broke error but it's not for older firmware.
So if you unlocked bootloader on 4.2.2 you have permanently damaged camera.
If you have backup TA partition, restore it and do everything again and try to set up your controller with this MARKET APP

Are you sure about that? Permanently? I remember people saying that they have back the camera functionality after Update to .290 or .136.

I'm not 100% sure, Google should know that (for sixaxis controller).
And for bootloader - yeap, I'm sure.
If doesn't have TA backup - there's no help.
Only if someone found some way to fix it and I haven't heard for that - but I doubt...

I was under the impression I needed a rooted device to use backup TA?
Can somebody explain to me what part of process I went through where I unlocked my bootloader?
All I was trying to do is root my phone NOT unlock the bootloader.
I do appreciate the help.

How?
Downgraded to NUT's 14.1.G.1.534 with flash tool rooted it with Bin4ry, installed dualrecovery then updated to 14.1.G.2.257 and finally 14.2.A.1.136.
What went wrong?

I followed the steps very closely and there was no mention of unlocking.
What program out of the three would have done it?

You downgraded to .534 FW provided bu NUT, Rooted with Bin4ry, Installed DualRecovery then "updated to .257", this updeate wan not necessary and instead of doing that you should update to .136 directly with the instructions from the thread, BUT this should not cause any issues what so ever.
Then you never did this steps from HERE?
Type on keyboard *#*#7378423*#* and check what Bootoader Unlock Saying, Yes, No or Unlocked?

Bootloader unlock allowed: Yes
I did see that page but I ignored it because I was not interested in unlocking my bootloader.
