Wow. Have they done anything original since launching the IPhone? Have they "innovated" anything since? It seems like they take other people's ideas, patent a portion of it, throw it into their phones and calls it "innovative!" SmH

Lmao. Hard to be your definition of innovative when other origins of an item/product/feature has already surfaced the technology, idea, or knowhow. The S4 is the ONLY "smartphone" I know with some of these features. If Apple happens to have a version of their own, cool. Not being exactly the same and bringing something new to actual smartphone users and Samsung lovers is innovative. At some point in life ideas need to be merged. This idea of "endless possibilities" is coming to an end. This competition bull**** needs to stop and cooperative teamwork needs to start being at least thought about.

This "competition bull***" is what is driving people to innovate. It is what brought Apple to the forefront of mobile technology and it is what brought Samsung to offer a better device than Apple. Without Apple we would likely not have what we have now, and without Samsung, we would be stuck in Apple's 2007 view of what a mobile device should look like and how it should function. Without competition you do do not have innovation...period. Apple did not consider Samsung to be a real competitor, they figured that their device is the pinnacle of perfection, and that the market does not need or want anything else. And then Samsung introduced a device that is different from the iPhone that people actually want, while the best thing Apple can bring to the table is Siri. This attitude will be their ultimate undoing.

Lol. We could go back and forth on this for years. I'm not talking about the past. I'm talking about the now and the future. Apples patent fighting is complete garbage. There isn't a necessity for competition through customer satisfaction. It only causes more problems. What I'm getting at is that there shouldn't be patent rushes to takeover and rule a single thought like Apple continues to strive for. That gives nobody else a chance to provide for other users of different taste. Its playing too dirty. That's one reason I hate Apple but that's an entirely different story. But with today's advances in technology there shouldn't be a limit of any kind. So competition by means of sales is obviously here to stay. However, restricting little odds and ends to other manufacturers is just ridiculous. Its bullying. Lol. Obviously competition will remain but by "competitive bull****" I was referring to the foul play.

In a society with mostly free markets such as ours, companies have to answer to their shareholders. I don't necessarily blame Apple for their patent fighting. That doesn't mean that a lot of what they do isn't BS, and hopefully the courts will begin to realize this. All signs point to that already happening. Most importantly, the customer doesn't care about patent fighting. They care about having the best product at the best price. That is why Samsung is winning, and no amount of patent fighting on part of Apple will make up for their shortcomings elsewhere.

This is getting old. All of this bickering in the court system is only driving the cost of the devices up. In the end the consumer, whether it be iFanboys or Android fanboys, get the shaft. This is the sole reason I will never buy any Apple stuff again...

Is that why the Samsung keyboard doesn't have an auto-correct feature? That's too bad, because otherwise, I think it's an excellent keyboard. I was hoping that it would be added in the future.
Also, the fact that Samsung was able to bring the S4 with it's truly innovative features to market speaks volumes about what they are capable of. And this is despite the fact that Apple would patent the rectangle if they could (and probably tried). You can argue for or against most of the new features in the S4 (I don't use many of them), but the fact remains that they are available. The iPhone is virtually unchanged since 2007. I'm curious to see what the iPhone 5S will bring to the table, but probably not much. The rumored fingerprint sensor maybe, although that would be a useful feature if they did.

The first iPhone did revolutionise the smartphone and there's no denying it, however after that it all kind of went downhill. I agree with you, they haven't really done anything innovative since and yet they're still acting as if they're the very best. Are Apple really thick or are they just refusing to accept defeat.

To me, Apple is guilty of kanging open source, patenting it and then suing. Slide to unlock is one, which if memory serves was developed and released here BEFORE the iPhone came out. Then they sued HTC for having a touchscreen interface, which had been out several years before the iPhone. They steal, and sue. That is their way. That is why I will continue to personally boycott all Apple "wares"/products. It pisses me off that part of the money I spent on my GS4 went to them. We the consumers ought to sue Apple for driving up the cost of non apple devices.

I am opposed to patent lawsuits due to it being a far too lax, broad, and generally bs system in the US as it concerns technology patents. But Apple deserves every lawsuit filed against. I have had something against Apple ever since they decided to make their company a cult of personality around Steve Jobs and Apple. They want to play holier than thou in court? Then they should put up with the other side rolling up their sleeves and fighting back.
Complaining about anticompetitiveness. PAH. They just forced Samsung to stop selling Galaxy Tabs entirely in Europe through bs patent fighting. Apple deserves every single case filed against it.

We should let everyone know what shame Apple is doing

This thing that Apple is suing every freaking mobile companies/manufactures with their (stolen) patents is really a shame. Look at this very last new of ITC banning the importation and selling of certain HTC phone in US. Whoever buys any new Apple products enable the company to become stronger and stronger, unfortunately not in a good way. Apple is trying so hard and at any cost to get rid of the mobile concurrence. This means hijacking the mobile marketing, which will eventually realize the company's dream to capitalize and control the entire mobile markering worldwide. If we are all a little bit clever, we should really open a campaign and let everyone know what the company plans really are, what they are doing, and work something together to stop this shame.
Please share this, have ur say and let everyone know what is going on, what they are really buying today and what consequence their purchase might cause.
Thanks

Yea thats true.. Although I am sure there's still someone who doesn't know it and would like to stay away from powering up a company that plans to capitalize and get in control of everything.
A clear message needs to be sent...
i really don't know what apple is trying to do, sueing all the world.. maybe next will be eve cause she bit an apple???
by the way, reading everything is good to know HTC, and maybe Google already have a solution for this patent infrigments, so the android user experience will always be better than iphonish one...
I see no reason for either panic or concern. First of all, look at the range of devices affected: v1.6 - v2.2 You can't even purchase new HTC device with Froyo or older OS. Second, HTC already responded that they do have a workaround in the pipeline that would diminish all claims Apple's suit made.
Take a step back and try to look at the bigger picture. Ask yourself, why is Apple suing Samsung, HTC, etc? My theory is very simple; Apple's runaway success ran out of steam and they losing ground to Android quicker then Apple engineers are able to put together a new product. Earlier today Andy Rubin bragged about 700,000 daily activations. Simply put, Apple is scared of competition. Nay, they are scared ****less. Since they can't compete by innovating they choose to fight by litigating.
If there is one thing I have agreed with Jobs on, was his musing that "market will sort everything out". It looks like market already did just that and the new is not good for Apple, hence the lawsuits.

Obviously you don't know what ur talking about (take it as a polite way to call you troll).
What Apple has been doing ever since it joined the IT market back in 1985 is to steal other ideas and projects in a legal manner, then patent them and use them against any company/manufactures.
Btw Apple calls this "REINVENTING". Just like they reinvented the phone, reinvented the way to interact between apps, DLNA, the cloud, the pull down notification bar, and the list goes on on and on..
I think I said pretty much all..
Apple business model will fail not now but in the future. What apple is trying to do is to stall it in a way. They already knew sole proprietary will fail, they almost went under at the start..
Steve jobs started a vendetta againts the android os. This is common knowledge. He got mad that someone in his company said NO left and made a product just as good.
My thing is how and why would apple try to sue something that isnt even their os. Thats like microsoft suing apple for a double click to open a file. Or adobe suing java, its childish.
Or ford suing all car manufacturers for having a break pedal.
Noting was stolen, apple has its own OS and android has theirs.
In my opinion suing for how a devices behaves. Its stupid dumb and im surprised the judges havent said that.

Patents are the most rediculus things I have ever seen...
Patents should be used for something totally unique in innovation like design and stuff and not for something that is like a building block of every other phone too...
And buying someone else's patents is bull****...it shows that the company is not innovative and steal others ideas and just keeps on bragging that they have done all the innovations....
Talking about stealing...apple has also stolen other's stuff like the drop down notification bar, siri etc etc...but google and other companies never patent everything they innovate because they know that somethings are crusial for every phone and its very anti innovative to patent those things...
I wonder what will happen when the Patent Office starts accepting patents for things other than technology...then the whole world will start suing each other...and another world war will begin...
And look what Steve Jobs said in his biography that he can even go for a bio nuclear war to stop android....which shows how greedy he is that he can destroy the whole world just for something **** like iPhone...

This is the typical Apple fan mode of operation:
Apple Fan: "Apple invented all this stuff!!"
Someone: "Err, no they didn't. There was this, that and the other stuff, which Apple copied."
Apple Fan: "Yeah, well, Apple owns the patents!!"
Suddenly it's not important anymore that Apple hasn't invented anything. And they're completely oblivious how what this does is point to the brokenness of the patent system, as opposed to pointing to the supposed brilliance of Apple.

[NEWS] The End of Android is Coming Nearly Close!

Hello Guys,
Very Sad News Here:

MOD Edit: Removed some of this as its more of a rant, Chill out safariking.
Oh jeez... I hope this won't come true. I don't want any of their products, but if this is true and apple wins in lawsuits to come, I might have no other choice. This is some pretty f*cked up s*it

i hope so!!!
Nothing will happen, it will either be considered a FRAND patent requiring a license fee, but no bans, or invalidated completely in court. Even IF it stood up to all that it only applies in the US. If the US wants that, fine suffer the consequences.
Fun journey ahead.
The platform which can REALLY suffer drastic consequences from this is not Android, it's Apple's iOS devices sales. People are not blind, and even on the Apple camp, people are starting to get really tired of Apple's litigations and are beginning to see Apple's true nature and purpose. Cut me the crap that they are defending their own IP, they really are hurting the whole industry with their mentality (and the lawyers are the ones who really win). Remember, bad publicity is still publicity, people are not blind and are seeing new stuff, new interfaces, improvements, cooler looks, variety of features and devices and more in the Android side. They will figure out who is who.
Touchscreen patents? Who needs Touchscreen??
Since i haven't 10 posts on xda yet, i cannot post links. So search for "Most Important New Technology" on page of technology review. Using devices without touchscreen is coming.
Oh give me break... "moving things around the screen with your finger", "electronic lists such as music in a library"... to name a few can be dismissed with evidence of prior art.
What blows my mind is how when Microsoft where faced with apples bull**** regarding using a window to group items in an operating system Microsoft won out. What gives these days? Is it only mega rich corporations that get justice.

F*** Apple.
Not a big deal really. the judge made a stupid decision, as pointed out in the article, there is a lot of prior art from various companies long before Apple's touch system. It may takes years fighting it out in court, but almost all of this is certain to get overturned in the end as companies who fought each other before will band together to fight this.

That's how I feel about it too. It's like the judge granting Apple a patent for having a rechargeable battery in their phone, or a headphone jack.

I don't see anyone banning together. Samsung will stand alone, HTC will watch as they spend millions fighting. Same with Google. They talk a talk, but have yet to see them setup up and help. They won't until Motorola gets sued. Apple won't touch moto, though.

You're right, that's how it's been working. If it does get to the point that Samsung can't win in court though I see everyone else joining in before they just close up shop. What other option is there? Besides paying Apple royalties I guess..
Apple is a vile corporation :banghead:
Shame the world is under its poisonous spell to realize this.

To show you how ridiculous these patents can be, Boeing owns the patent on part of physics. That's right, the laws of nature. Sir Isaac Newton type stuff.
Not sure how it turned out in the end, but a satellite was launched and had a malfunction. It was to be used bt Dish Network but the orbit wasn't high enough. So the company that owned the satellite was going to use the engines to push it around the moon. Thus using the gravitational field of the moon to slingshot it into a higher orbit. There was not enough fuel on board to directly move it into a higher orbit.
Well guess what? Boeing owned the patent on the procedure. This is ****ing physics for christ's sake. And Boeing claimed ownership of the moon's gravity field. At one point the satellite gave up because Boeing was extorting them to drop a lawsuit. Not sure if they ever worked things out. Boeing refused to let the company use the patent because the company was suing Boeing on other matters and would only allow the procedure if the company dropped the suit.

As a brilliant comedian by the name of Lee Evans once said, "They've had touch screen technology for years. Just go down to the over night garage at 2 in the morning and see all the pissheads tapping on the glass asking for ginsters." The patent obviously belongs to all the world's pissheads :')

Giants like Microsoft can't sit and watch while crApple coins something that is clearly not theirs not their invention, and existed before they used it.
These judges that grant crApple these patents are either retarded, high, get money from crApple or all at once.
I wish I could buy crApple, so I could flush iCrap down the toilet, and make Fag OS open source. And then sell the company to Google.

Steve B. Jobs? Ah - Steve Blow Jobs .

Apple Won :(

I can't believe this...
Apple has WON BIG in the Apple/Samsung IP lawsuit. The judge basically gave everything Apple wanted. Samsung was found to be infringing several of Apple's patents and designs. In addition, Samsung now has to pay Apple over $1 Billion. Samsung lost completely. Apple was found to be infringing ZERO ZERO ZERO patents of Samsung which is quite surprising.
It gets worse though.. Samsung (and probally every Android maker soon) will now have to pay Licensing Fees to Apple which would result in higher prices for Android. However, Apple could decide not to License their technology which would mean that Android would have to be stripped of many of its best features.

The U.S really needs some better judges and EYES TOO.
Samsung's phone look NOTHING like Apple's iPhone.
without prejudice and bias samsung SGS2 does look like a larger iphone,
i'm an android fan and will never have a apple device except my former iphone 2g,
but just look at it
Yup, just look at this:
But the main problem here is the patent system. Not Apple's or Samsung's. Why on earth did they grant Apple these obvious patents like bounce and pinch to zoom? It's a [email protected] joke.
Whatevs, apple is supposed to be the Hallmark of capitalism in America, yet apple tries to hamper it's competition by throwing random lawsuits about what should be basic smart phone functions, and yes the iPhone is a smart phone, and Mac computers are computers, Cuz I know all lot of Mac owners think their electronic devices are some ordained object thrown down by God from the heavens and their device cannot be categorized under the names of other electronic devices, silly

I like what one of Samsung's lawyers said as some point during the case...
"How can you hold a patent on a rectangular device with rounded corners?"
Sent from your mom.
From a patent attorney on another forum.
"This case will absolutely be tossed out on appeal. in their infinite wisdom, samsung's attorneys didn't bother to challenge apple's patents on the basis of not being directed to statutory subject matter. (oh, hi, forgot to mention, most simple software patents, the kind you hate, are now actually no longer patentable due to some recent cases).
The CAFC (patent appeal court) will raise the issue, toss out apple's patents."
This case is far from over. This will continue for many years to come. Nothing is decided yet, even with this verdict.

The thing is though, the Jury isn't there to judge the merit of the patents in question, just whether they have been infringed. These kinds of arguments come up a lot in "Jury Nullification" but for the most part the Jury was almost certainly told not to judge anything but whether the "patents" have been infringed upon.
Ok, but there is also the same court case in Korea, in which Samsung won, and Apple has to pay them for patent infringement. It really rises the question if this is really important or are they (both) trying to prove a stupid point?
Of course everyone uses ideas from other people but change it and imporve upon it (just like most of our ROMs are actually stock ROMs and we build upon them). I am against blatant copies but there has to be drawn a line beacuse what next? I won't be able buy a phone that isn't Apple's, because no one can use a candybar form of a phone?

Ive read that they were to judge if the patents were legitimate, and if so, were they willingly infringed.
