I ordered this cord about 2 weeks ago now.
I got it in the mail today, thinking it wasn't going to work.
It was only $7 so I thought, ehh whatever
I plugged all of the cords (HDMI, Power and Charger port).
Whattya know, my phone screen is now on my television.
I already watched a movie on my television, ported full 1080p. No lag whatsoever.
Watched Netflix, no problems, full screen playback working crystal clear.
Just a couple small problems, the USB is very touchy. The screen will stay mirrored, but if you pull back the USB port even a tiny bit, it will lose the picture.
I noticed when i have the phone plugged in, my data signal diminishes significantly. I'm not sure if its because of the cord or just the crappy phone reception in my home.
I know for a fact this CANT be genuine.
I'm actually quite surprised.
For the whopping price if $7, this is a steal.

I got one off of amazon for fairly cheap as well, but I found the gaming to be pretty laggy so it's been stuffed into a drawer somewhere.
Is this the one with micro-usb charging port on it? If it is,can you charge your phone if you connect charging cable to this MHL adapter while it's connected to Note2/TV? For some reason I thought that it's just like OTG cable where you phone becomes a host and outputs HDMI signal and you can't charge it out. But then I read somewhere you can. So, can you please clear it up if phone can be charged through that micro-usb port on the side (if your adapter has one)?

I'd say a little but not too much.
I plugged it into my TV at 100 percent.
I watched a movie that lasted about an hour and a half and when I took it off, it was at 92 percent.

when you use TV-out you should set display brightness to the lowest setting, and use both an original Samsung charger and an original Samsung usb cable.
many 3rd party chargers and cables can't handle the 1.5-2A the note 2 needs for charging while using TV-out.

here is video showing HML running on MA7. I'm using the generic Monoprice adapter, the 5-11pin adapter, and their ultra slim with RedMere HDMI cable (signal goes one direct only).
It's not that other cable and charges don't work. The phone uses more power to convert the signal for the USB cable. Then the adapter needs power to work, so you're not getting the full 2amps being passed from the charger. On top of that, the USB may not have rating or resistance to pass the 2amps as well. Thus, what may appear as the phone not charging is really the phone battery not depleting as quickly because it's not recieving more power that the GN2 is using.
I've used cheapy cables and other chargers fine to watch videos and what not, and the phone build a charge; just not as quickly as the OEM.
I've used the OEM cable and charger, and still depleted the battery because I was runuing WiFi tether, and HML. The best I was able to do, reduce the depletion to 10% an hour.
I recommend this to save battery life. It requires root but lets you turn the screen off.

I bought the OEM MHL to HDMI cable and it stopped working after a couple of uses. And I only use the OEM charger with the cable
I tried swapping out the HDMI cable, but that didn't make any difference. Picture would not go to the TV. Is there a setting that I'm missing on the device for TV out?
I assumed the cable was defective and bought a cheap one from monoprice, but same story there, it does not work either.
no special setting. Probably a driver got borked in the phone. You may want to reflash or do a factory reset assuming you've switch cables, adapter and tried a different TV.
I bought a similar one from another seller but the pin is quite long and doesnt go in completely. Is it the same in your case?
And no im not getting anything on my hdtv :/
I have a Samsung MHL adapter that I bought to use with my OG Evo or Evo 3D, don't remember which one. I've had it for years now, and it still works great! I wish that Samsung would make something like HTC did with their Media Link HD. I still use my Evo LTE and Media Link HD to watch my TV shows on Droid TV PrimeTime. That's an awesome app that only costs $9 every 3 months. It doesn't have movies, just TV shows. It has shows from their current series though, and will record shows (from the series you've selected) just 12 hours after it airs! I only use Netflix for watching older series of shows and movies.

I used this on my Palm Pre. It charges my Epic 4g, and I tried it out on the Nook Color this AM.
It worked just fine.

No, AFAIK, none of these will charge as fast as the standard NC charger. For that, you'd need to go thru the hassle of getting an inverter.
Monoprice has cigarette lighter to female usb chargers for $1.16 that you can use your usb cable with.

Yes, the Sprint charger says 'charging' As the others stated, it's not fast, but it works just fine...
it isnt more of a hassle, I have 4 inverters, but they all have fans and make noise I wanted to use a NO noise charger thats all

Larger, heavier, more cords, much more expensive (when compared to a $1 cig-to-usb)...
Just has to be able to push out the current needed. Otherwise it may not charge, or it will charge very slowly.
The Scosche reVIVE II Dual USB Car Charger for iPad has 2.1 and 1.0 amp usb outlets, I use this for plugging in my evo and nc. It definitely charges them both even while having all the wireless radios going and tethering with gps and both screens full bright.

Same issue here, I have a road-trip coming up this summer and I'd love to load up my NC with music and dash-mount it but it'll be a 14-20 hour drive (depending on the number of whiz breaks the wife and kids need) and I don't think I could push the battery quite that long and the inverter when wired to the radio creates quite a buzzing.

Are you using the Nooks specific cable on the 2.1A connection? I too am going on a trip soon, and would love a car charger that can actually CHARGE the nook while using it..

It definitely charges both. Like I said in my previous post, I usually have both my Evo runniong and the Nook full bright display on for 50 minute commute, using TetherGPS, wifi hotspot, torque and bluetooth, google navigation pulling satellite imagery, and playing mp3s. Granted, it is slower to charge than without all that stuff running but my previous car charger would lose charge with my evo running just gps and no wifi hotspot previously.
I am using stock blackberry usb cables that I ordered from Amazon as well for $1.25 for a pair (google 'B001UC9NOQ', can't post links yet.) These are nice, thick cables that handle the charger great. I leave them plugged in inside the truck at all times. I have not used that Scosche wall charger, I use the stock chargers for travel that remain in my backpack, and I have other usb cables I use to charge at home. I would imagine it works just as well though.

Let us know if it works for you. An Amazon reviewer just reported that the Scosche reVIVE II didn't work on their Nook Color:
The nook color needs 1.9 amps, this can't do it. Scosche claims 2.1 amps but it isn't even close. It BARELY charges the nook if the machine is sleeping, when on, the battery charge goes down even while supposedly "charging." Playing video, it's even worse. On top of that if I try to charge a regular phone it puts out too much amperage on the 1 amp side and overheats the phone. Save your money, look elsewhere.

However, the reviewer may not know what they're talking about. A charger cannot put out "too much amperage." Too much voltage perhaps, but not too much amperage (current). A device draws only the current it needs.
An iPad needs an amperage around 2 A also. I got the Belkin Charge 2.1 made for the ipod/ipad and it DOES charge the nook color. It has a 12V plug with one USB outlet at 2.1A. I used the cable from the nook color obviously...
See, part of my worry is not the current output, but if the nook can actually communicate with these chargers and get a full 1.9A draw, instead of the detault 500mA over non B&N chargers...

I bought the same Belkin iPad charger from Best Buy. Rated at 2.1A. I used it with the B & N USB cable that came with my Nook Color. I used the 'Battery Monitor' software mentioned earlier here or on another post to compare charge current readings against the stock B&N wall charger/cable. The Belkin was charging right at 500 mA (NC was using ~450 mA, software showing +36 mA current). So somewhere the B & N cable & charger must have a unique way of determining that it is a B&N charger / cable and to allow the full 2.1A charge. I used the Belkin 12V charger on my TomTom and it allowed just over 1A charge, so I know the Belkin iPad charger is fine.
Yes, it does charge the Nook Color, if you are at 800 Mhz and minimum brightness running non-intensive applications--and it barely charges at that ~50 mA. It does turn the charge indicator on the B&N cable orange, and the status indicates battery charge on the screen.

After reading the threads in this section, it seems that the consensus is that the "fast charging" aspect of the NC is based on extra pins in the special NC cable. When connected to any charger with 1.9amps or greater, you will get the fast charge.
My experience is different.
Using the OEM NC cable:
1. Connected to OEM charger, stock ROM - settings say charging, flashes an icon with charging percent on connection and removal
2. Connected to OEM charger, CM7 - settings say Charging (AC).
3. Connected to 2.1 and 2.0 amp chargers, stock - settings say Not Charging.
4. Connected to 2.1 and 2.0 amp chargers, CM7 - settings say Charging (USB)
Using the generic microusb cables (2 or 3 tried):
1. Connected to OEM charger, stock ROM - Can't remember, but not going back to stock!
2. Connected to OEM charger, CM7 - settings say Charging (AC).
3. Connected to 2.1 and 2.0 amp chargers, stock - settings say Not Charging.
4. Connected to 2.1 and 2.0 amp chargers, CM7 - settings say Charging (USB)
This seems to imply that the OEM charger is required to really use the extra pins in the NC OEM cable. Can anyone test and confirm this?

The nook charger puts out almost 2A of power, where normal usb chargers and ports on computer only put out 500mA. The cable that the nook comes with has some terminations in it that allow the nook to tell when it is connected to the nook charger. It will charge at a much faster rate when using the combination of the charger and cable that came with the nook. Replace either the cable or the charger with anything else and you get low power charging mode which is very slow.

As long as a charger puts out near 2A of current, it should work. The charger itself is just a four pin USB charger. The cable itself... lots of pins in the connector to the NC.

That's what everyone's been saying, but it doesn't work that way in my testing. I have tried 3rd party chargers that output 2.0 and 2.1A, using the OEM cable. None of them are recognized as an AC charger. If we knew how the NC knows when it's connected to the original charger, we could find a way to modify something available at WalMart to quick charge our NC's. There's plenty of Ipad chargers (2.1A) available. The one I have doesn't work, though.

Update to my previous post:
When I got home from work I tested my ipad charger (2.1A) with the nook color cable and it seemed to act like the nook charger. I did not think any charger but the nc one would work, but it seems it does.
I am jealous. My Ipad charger (OEM) paired with the nook cable shows Charging (USB) under Settings --->About Tablet--->Status. I would love know how to get it to say Charging (AC) .

Many have noticed poor quality in the chargers..I'm gonna try to engineer an open DIY charger and cable replacement with better filtering components. Hopefully will be creating a thread with full details in 3 weeks...

yep, this is overdue...plugged in last night...almost burned my hand after an hour of charging. I keep my charger by the bed and the hum is just annoying when I'm feeling a bit restless.
Is there a way to identify problem chargers?
There must be some real inconsistency in the charger build quality. I've never noticed mine gets more than just a tiny bit warm and no humming. I wonder if there was a bad lot of them made? I was trying to look at the charger to see if there is a lot # or such, but can't tell what half the darned thing says. I'm posting a pic of the text on my charger in the hopes we can figure out if there is some way to identify problem chargers.
Edit: My nc came from WalMart.
Well there is a difference in the markings at least...The area circled in red...On mine it is R1101.

Edit: BTW my unit came from Walmart. Not sure if there would be any accounting for things like that.

Yeah, this much is well known...my plan is to find out if there are "brains" in the charger or if it's just a high amp USB adapter. If the latter is true( which I suspect), then it's easy peasy to make a high power port( or just buy a quality one). If it has special circuitry...then I get to try and replicate it( with better parts) and release the plans so others can make DIY replacements.
Edit: I'm willing to bet that the extra pins in the cable are just to increase contact surface...to handle the higher amperage.

That is totally wrong, since other cables WILL transfer data just fine. I use an LG Micro USB cable from my old dare, and am able to ADB push, install, etc just fine.
As it is, the large end of the Nook's USB cable is normal; this means that if the nook is communicating, it is doing so over the standard USB data ports, and not through some special connection. Keep in mind that some of the extra pins from the micro side are for the status light that is built in.

Hmm....hadn't thought of that...that charger almost has to be dumb...just higher output...the smarts all have to be in the USB/power management chip in the nook. Those extra pins must be for the led and maybe a few for handling the higher amperage. Need to check out the spec sheet for that chip again...

Why does it HAVE to be dumb? I mean, the charger needs to do nothing more than respond to a ping, saying "Hey, im a Nook charger, take me for a 1.9A ride!". I guess that makes it dumb, but no reason said technology won't be in the charger.
Could someone recommend any good supplier of USB to microUSB cable that can handle 2 amps of charging the note 2? Other than the cable I got from Samsung, all my cable charge super slow my note 2 (from the original charger).

No no not saying they wont work....its the performance aspects of cables.
kindle cable contained in link is 5-6ft long , allows usb sync , built for 2amp current flow and user reviews are solid which = Good quality.
A little explanation on why I'm buying new cable,
My stock is defective micro connection wasn't sure easily falling out of device.
I took it to ATT service center showed them what was up and they ordered replacement cables that sucked.
1st Rcable was too short -Samsung was only 3ft long.
2nd Rcable didn't sync to pc - Off the wall brand 6 ft long.
From that point I broke out utility knife modified stock cable cutting some plastic off sleeve on micro end.
Connections now sure but cable looks beat up so replacement was needed.
Well I received my Amazon Kindle replacement cable today
Kindle Cable is of good quality , connections are firm much better then stock oem that came with device.
I highly recommend it.

At one point I thought my phone (EVO 4G) had a problem with the micro USB jack (it didn't). Then one day I found a great cable on Amazon:

If my calculations are correct that's putting about 1120 Ma per hour into your phone.
I wonder if it would charge that fast on usb and have data too?
I also wonder how that compares to the stock USB cable that came with our charger.

Good questions. I was wondering the same things, particularly as the Monoprice cable is double the length of the stock one. At some point, I'll try both charging from my laptop with the Monoprice cable, and switching out and using the stock USB cable, for comparison purposes. My problem (well, not REALLY a problem at all!) is that my battery seems to be lasting around 27 hours, so it may be a while before I can get around to doing this!

My stock usb cable that came with my Samsung charger shows charging on USB, even though it's plugged into the wall.
Conversely, put my note on my 2 amp car charger and the note says charging on AC.
Something is not right with the stock setup. Sure it charges but it should read charging on AC if it's on AC.
Just did a test. Found a usb cable from another device and plugged that into the Samsung stock charger. Now it reads "charging on AC."
I used that same cable and USB on my desktop. My note said charging on USB.
I think the cable was the bottle neck on the charger and the usb port on the desktop is not putting out enough power to make the Note believe its on AC.
USB is USB as far as our desktop/ Note goes, but if you are using AC, then the cable becomes more important if you want the fastest charge. What's apparent is we didn't get a real charging cable with our Note II. .

So far, I haven't had any problems with my stock Samsung USB cable. You can always try the Monoprice cable I mentioned in a prior post. Also, I've read on these boards that it sometimes helps to try different USB ports on your computer, and that it can actually make a difference in charging.
Interesting topic I have been wondering about myself. The cable I got with my Note 2 is not good. The connector, when attached, is easy to move aside, does not hold in place and the sad thing is, it is original manufacturer cable.
I used several different cables and found out that the problem is the height (length) of the micro USB connector, which protrudes from the connector's plastic cover. The other thing I found is that standard Samsung cable, delivered with the phone is few fractions of millimeter shorter than any other cable I compared it to, and suffers from it.
Amazon basics cable I ordered recently might have the connector metal only barely longer, but holds much better (in fact it fits tightly and feels very well fixed in the socket). Contrary to some, I have not observed any problem when charging the phone with this cable and original charger. Maybe the newer cables are already adapted to the chargers as well.
The fact that the norm is not always the norm is also proved by original Samsung MHL adapter (with HDMI out). This has "micro USB" connector (here it is 11 pin though) which is roughly 1-2 mm longer than the one on supplied charger cable. This one gets "all way down" into the hole and still does not even touch the case with its plastic part (there might be ~ 1mm space between the plastic of connector and Note 2 case).
Now, when I look at potential micro USB cable for Note 2 I always check the length of micro USB metal part. It must be longer than original cable from Samsung, otherwise it will have flimsy connection.
Length
I try and use a shorter cable as the longer they get the more power you loose. I use a 6" inch usb A to B Micro. I love this cable because my phone can sit right next to my computer and its getting the max power.

So been trying to get a dual-USB 2.1A charger to use with my Nexus 7 and my old desire-Z phone (I also have a 1st gen iPad so figured would be a nice perk for both ports to deliver that juice).
I even went as far as buying a new USB Cable thinking something was wrong with my cable and flashing a couple of different kernels (thinking it was maybe that).
Fact is whenever I plug my N7 into a Kensington AbsolutePower 4.2 w/ PowerWhiz (K39690AM), Battery Monitor Pro widget will say in green "AC Plugged", "Discharging", and if it does show "Charging", it's only drawing in around 130mA or so. But yet on my Desire-Z (G2) I plug that in, it'll show maybe around 500mA (it won't go over 1A because it's designed not to for smart phones).
However If I plug the N7 into a Samsung 2.1A charger that came with a Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, The N7 will show a power draw from the charger a little above 1,800mA (and then goes down to around 500 or less once it hits 99%), similar situation with the samsung charger + my G2.
So I'm constantly googling trying to figure out whats up, and the only thing I've come across are various reviews on Amazon (they list this as a Dual 2.1A USB charger), with some complaints saying they don't work with Asus Tablets and another saying it wouldn't charge much at all on his Nexus 10.
So I'm wondering... what's up with that, and why does it not say it's not compatible on the box (though guess they sort of did by excluding Asus and Google from the list of brands on the side).

As I said, I'm using Battery Widget Monitor Pro. IF it was only the OS it would show the exact same deal with the Samsung 2.1A Charger, Nook 1A charger, HTC 1A charger. But instead on ALL chargers except the Kensington one, it shows a much higher charge rate (on the 1A around 800mA charge, on the Samsung around 1.7A charge).
But on the Kensington one never more than 500mA (usually around 300-400). I even exchanged the unit for a new one, and still the exact same behavior. I think the powerWhiz feature of the charger is detecting it not as a tablet but rather as a generic USB Device and is not providing more than 500mA for 'safe' charging. Just like how it won't charge my phone past 1A since it's detected as a SmartPhone even though it's a 2.1A port.

The N7 has a circuit to detect whether the USB cable is plugged into its charger or into a regular USB port. The N7's charger shorts the two data pins. If your charger doesn't short those two pins, the N7 will never go into "high charge" mode.
There is a simple mod to do. Either take the charger apart and short what the data pins should be on the usb port or short the data wires together in a cheapo usb cable at the micro usb side. That will make a charge only cable but it will give. What you need.

Yea... I'm not taking apart a charger. I just returned the second one to the store where I got it and got one that did work. Also that method won't work with the kensington, with it's powerwhiz feature if it can't detect the device it'll limit to 500mA for safety.
Besides I've already returned the second charger (I exchanged the first one, re-ran tests, etc), and ended up getting an RCA 4-outlet power strip/surge protector that has two USB ports (one for 2.1A charging) that does work.
All android devices look for 200ohms on the data pins to determine if it is a charge vs data source. Except the handful of proprietary connections (ex:Nook Color).
Yep. All things said in this thread are true. What I've found to work great with the stuff I already have is a Samsung Galaxy S4 charger. That thing
charges the N7 at about 1500 mA. Measured with my multimeter. It's weird though,
it'll start around 800mA and after about 45s to a minute it will start pulling in almost double that.

I have a few of the belkin/off brand dual USB auto adapters. But they all have output of around 500mA so basically when using bluetooth and GPS on the rd I'm drawing more power than I'm getting. I've looked around on amazon for some usb adapters but seems like a lot of them for some reason only really fast charge with IPads or other apple devices and for some reason they slow charge android devices. Apparently iphones have some sort of communications with the chargers to draw more power.
So my question is does anyone have one or know of one that works with the G2 and fast charges. I'd prefer one that is flush like my existing belkin and not one that sticks out a few inches. Dual ports would be nice, but at this point I'm not picky. Having said that, I'd like to not spend $30 on it.
To add to it, I installed some battery monitor widget and while in the car today I just popped it open and noticed that it said "USB Connected Discharging" So basically It actually drains power quicker than if it wasn't connected to the charger at all!

It seems that the bigger issue is not finding a 2amp charger, but a USB cable with the correct gauge similar to the oem one. I believe the oem cable is 20 gauge and I believe I found one on Amazon.

I don't get why it's such a difficult thing to find? Doesn't LG make a car charger that charges it's own phone?
I use my older Motorola ones and they work fine. Not full 2 amp but I can stream iheartradio or Pandora and the phone will charge up still. But the screen is off, not like using GPS. Still would like a fast charger tho.
I have an Anker 24w 2 port charger and it charges my phone as fast as the wall charger. I tested it with a charger doctor and it does read 1.8a current flowing thru.

It's not the charger that seems to be the problem. 2a Chargers can be had in many places. It seems a 20 gauge wire is the difference.
