[Q] Contact pictures issue on HTC One - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I synced my HTC One with Exchange server, and since most of my contact have pictures, they were also synced. However, most pictures have some strange grid over. This looks weird. Anyone else with this issue? And how to resolve?

[Q] Facebook Contact Sync

I sync my contacts from Google and Facebook
Facebook for pictures.
On HTC Desire it worked like a charm.
Here most pictures have some aspect ratio issue.
Is there any solution for this?

[Q] A couple of problems/bugs

Hey
I've tried multiple widgets for contacts, but the all have the same irritating problem. None of them are able to display contact's picture!
I have tried the same widgets on my old HTC Hero to, and the work perfectly on that handset, so it gotta be something wrong with the Optimus itself..
When I'm going in to Settings->About the device->Software update, I'm getting an error: "Connection failed because of aproval error."
Someone else experience the same problems? Any solutions?
Thanks
Try People contact widget
Works for me on Desire/Desire HD/Samsung Galaxy S and Optimus 2x
Stock contact widget in HTC Sense and LG UI works for me too though
Do you have pictures on your contacts in the normal adress book?
The Software update error is common. There's no update for Optimus yet, so you need to wait for LG/google to provide us with one....
Try installing Facebook for Android and log in. Synchronize with existing contacts, and see if pictures show up
I have an other problem. My phone only combines some of my facebook contacts with the phones. Can't figure out how to combine them manualy. This was easy with my HTC Desire

When I'm going in to my contacts list they all have pictures after I synchronised with Facebook. But when I go in to one spesific contact and press edit, there is no picture before i scroll down to the facebook information about the contact.
All of the contacts are also saved ass google contacts. On my old Hero, they were saved as phone contacts.
Another thing; when I go into accounts and synchronize, and goes into the facebook acc, it says "sychronizing names". Nothing about pictures..

In my case, the stock widget don't display the contact pictures on O2X either. I don't store contacts on my phone but rather kept them synced to google contacts. I also merged my facebook contacts with google contacts.
What I noticed is this: you will generally not have any issues with contact pics if they come with your google contacts; if your google contact has a pic, it will be displayed with certainty. The problem only arises when trying to display facebook contact pics in the absence of google contact pics even after merging contacts. I've never had much issues like this on my HTC Desire except on contacts that didn't update their account security to allow their contact pics to be synced. So my guess is that this issue is probably to do with how LG integrates the facebook pics to the contact storage on the phone.
Store ur contacts in ur gmail account and it will work.

Anyone notice bad contact picture quality on people widget and during phone calls?

I've noticed that on the people widget and contact pics when someone is calling the pics are very bad quality. My contact pictures are for the most part the persons Facebook picture. I remember HTC sense having this same issue way back on my WM tilt 2. Any fix for this?

I had it right after syncing Contacts/People over from Outlook. I just reset the photo as the contact icon from my gallery; and they cleared right up.
Thanks for your reply but it looks as if this is only an issue when using Facebook photos as it still looks pixelated after applying a gallery photo then reapplying Facebook photo.

it happens when you have a slow connection when facebook is being updated
This will happen if you have your contacts set to sync with your Google account as well, not just saved to your phone. Google Contacts shrinks and compresses the photos you select for contacts for storage purposes, and parts of Sense like the in-call screen take that image and stretch it, resulting in pixelation.
If that is your issue, the only way to display the contact images as they should be is to save your contacts to the phone memory and not to Google and reapply the images.
I actually found that if u sync with sense Facebook and not the fb app poof no more problem.

[Q] Google Contacts Pictures with dot filter

Hi All,
Setup my device last night, and a while ago, I started creating all my phone contacts as google ones, so that on restore, or setting up a new device, syncing my google account would bring all my numbers down.
However I noticed something a little bit strange. Some of my contacts appear to have their pictures there, and look fine in the small thumbnail in the people app, but when opening up the picture, it has a strange dot filter applied to it.
I use HaxSync to add facebook pictures as my google contact pictures, and when viewing them from a web browser they are fine. Doesnt seem to happen to all, just a few.
Anyone encountered this too? Any ideas about how to get around it? Seems very odd
Regards
Jonny
Update, well there was definitely something strange going on, and I haven't figured it out, but as a work around, in gmail (on a PC) I exported all my contacts to a google file. This neglects to export images that are on the contacts.
I then deleted all my contacts and synced my phone up, basically removing all contacts, and removed HaxSync. I then imported my saved contacts and instead of using a third party app to get high resolution photos for contacts, I did a contacts sync from the facebook app direct.
The images pulled still seem to be of decent clarity so maybe its something to do with the way the phone (or contacts app) parses images that are embedded into your google contacts.
I actually remember reading in a review about this filter too - trying to find it, but not that important now really.
Anyway. If anyone figures out why it does it then that would be good, and probably helpful to others at some point

From my understading HTC have been quite clever
Google contacts as a general rule of thumb (pardon the pun) use small thumbnails. Only recently have they started using higher quality thumbnails for contacts. Anyway, if the image is of low quality instead of it being pixelated and looking like sh*t, they basically add the dot matrix filter to make it look a bit more professional. To be fair, hats off to HTC it works and they are the first people i've seen attempt such a thing.
The secret is to get gmail contacts all high res, the problem is i am still struggling on just how to do that, seemed to work fine on my nexus but it varies from one device to another, pain in the arse in all honesty.
Ah that seems to make sense. That would explain why it would happen on only a few specific pictures.
The Facebook contact sync still seems to be working well, and there are only a few that have the filter now. I might go and double check to if those that are filtered have low resolution pictures on their Facebook account.

That is OK and definitely solve the problem. But to do it contact by contact having 1400 people in register and approx half of them are pictured, then it may be be time consuming process Interestingly I have not had this problem with my recently purchased xperia Z. Would be fine to solve it with an updated patch.

Blurry images on contacts

Greetings
Im facing a strange issue regarding the sync images from Facebook to the contact list of my z.
The sync is done but for some odd reason the pictures that I get in the contacts are all blurry.
Any way to fix this? Thanks
Bump.
Anyone with this issue?
