Has anyone tried any of the current recoveries or custom ROMs with the Japanese variant of the One? If so, how was it, did it work?
Thanks for any help!
Don't quote me on this because I'm not 100% but I'm not sure they work as I know that the Asian variant of the One doesn't have LTE from reading around, so that hardware difference may cause incompatibility.
The one th I have has LTE/CDMA/GSM, a MicroSD card slot, and a OneSeg antenna. I could probably do without the OneSeg if I lost that, but the MicroSD is kind of a big deal.
Can the HTC J One be SIM unlocked?
@HyoImowano
The problem is we don't have that much info on the japanese variant.
Could you by chance paste/write here the content of /proc/emmc so I can see if it's compatible with our current recoveries?
This is from my HTC J One. Thanks!

So, following the methods discussed over in the development forums, I've got my J One HTL22 unlocked and S-OFF. After that I installed an updated build of twrp for this phone.
That in place, I started trying a couple of ROMs today. I started with TrickDroid 7.5 and Android Revolution HD 10.3. Both bricked it, unfortunately. Have you tried anything on yours recently, @HyoImowano?

Nothing that worked unfortunately. I've been keeping my eye on a couple of Japanese forums, but nothing good has popped up yet. Where did you get the compatible version of TWRP? I've been using ClockworkMod.
camera issues with HTL22
Hi all. Got my HTL22 last week and thanks to nostodnayr, got it s-off, rooted, and installed TWRP.
However... I have the dreaded camera blurriness issue. Have seen it reported in non-Japanese models, and there are one or two posts now on Japanese forums complaining of this. Could be a firmware issue, but not sure. Basically, it takes ages to focus, and it will lose focus in videos especially badly, no matter what the settings are.
Would like to just take it back to the store and get a replacement on the spot, but not sure if they will like it being unlocked and rooted. I don't have my hands on a stock recovery, which I guess is what I need to send it back as if nothing happened. But this is entirely new territory for me!
What you think: chance it and act dumb, hoping I will escape with a like-for-like, or attempt to unroot and lock? And where would I get that stock recovery...
Great phone, mind you, apart from that awful QC issue with the camera.

Which forums are you looking at? I've been lazy and only checking a couple people's twitter feeds. So all I've seen is a version of CyanogenMod 10.1. (Which seems to have killed my SIM card or, maybe, my radio [though wifi is still working])
I got the TWRP here: http://www.scottish-vinegar.com/小物置き場/
I wasn't able to get ClockworkMod working; is there a different version I should try?
from what it looks like in the emmc theres a CDMA chip? so installing any 4.2.2 roms would bork it completely since there are no CDMA based 4.2.2 roms currently out there.

Right. But there's a version of CyanogenMod that someone's working on for the HTC J One: http://htcsoku.info/htcsokudev-news/au-m7-cm-beta-release/

Hello,
this is probably a late reply, but
I have rooted my HTC J One (htl22) using revone_j
and I am also using CWM 6.2 recovery. works like charm.
I am now looking for Sim unlock method. (Unlock code will not work just as with Sprint.)

Hi, I am exactly the same with you, the original au sim-card is working, but still could not use docomo sim-card.
Some Chinese guys seemed unlocked sim-lock with a tool named cdmaworkshop.
Hi guys,
I also have an htc j one. Can somebody give me a simple tutorial on how I root it and install custom firmware. I would also like to sim unlock it and so if anybody has any more information on how I might do that then it would be much appreciated. Thanks.
Root and sim unlock HTC j one
Hello
1) Here is the link to root and S-OFF HTC One (works for HTC j one BUT DOES NOT WORK IF YOU HAVE 1,54 bootloader)
2) here is the link in Japanese on how to sim-unlock your HTC J One - so you can use Docomo and Softbank sim:
http://htcsoku.info/htcsokudev-news/au-m7-device-sim-unlock/
S-OFF and root is needed for that one
Hi,
I think you forgot to post the link for the root and S-OFF. Unfortunately I bought the phone second hand and it has the 1.54 bootloader on already and so it seems there is no way for me to S-OFF for the time being.
Did the sim unlock work for you using the Japanese tutorial?

Please can any one help tell what and which rom i could use for my Htc one the problem of my Htc is that is suppose to be the special HTC One model made for China. It is exactly like the HTC One in US and other countries, but it has support for MicroSD Card and supports 2 SIM Cards and has 32GB Flash internal and 2GB internal RAM. Model: HTC 802w
My Htc is exactly the same one in this video :

Hi.
I have already unlocked the bootloader and rooted my HTC One.
now I want to download CyanogenMod but there are different .zip files for each codename.
I don't know where I bought the phone but I am not on at&t/Verizon/sprint/T-Mobile
I checked in therminal emulator getprop
ro.product.device is M7.
not m7ul or anything else.
if I am missing something, can you point it out for me?

m7_ul should be fine, you just won't have LTE/4G

it is support with any ROM that developers cook? thx
It will be possible to install a GSM ROM HTC One, to avoid having to be changed to GSM mode in Sprint HTC One?
I don't want to brick my device, I wonder what happen if I flash a GSM Stock Rom in this sprint HTC One

Your question is not very clear, but if I understand well you wan't to install a GSM ROM on a Sprint model.
The answer is NO, but there are some ROMs in HTC international forum which have added Sprint support like Viper, Insertcoin, Elegancia, ARHD.
If you flash a non compatible ROM you'll brick your phone, cause you'll mess up the partitions, kernel. In that case it's a pain and you'd have to flash a ruu in order to get it working again

Post above is correct. User however appears to want to use a GSM ROM thinking that it will prevent the annoyance of using the Sprint HTC One on a GSM network requiring that you constantly switch the network mode to GSM/UTMS.
Sorry, don't think it's feasible at this time though.
Hello!
I was just curious about this stuff. Most of the people I asked said that the Verizon variant has a different partition layout compared to the AT&T and all the other variants. But, I was looking around the forum and one guy said this...
alray said:
Only phones with MID starting with PN071 (GSM M7_U or M7_UL) can be converted to other variants having MID starting with PN071 (GSM M7_U or M7_UL).
For example, you can convert a WWE GSM variant (PN0710000) to a Dev edition GSM variant (PN0712000)
You can't convert a Sprint CDMA variant (PN0720000) to a GSM variant (PN071XXXX)
Afaik, (I might be wrong, confirm if your partition table is the same)You can't (?) convert a Verizon CDMA variant (PN0731000) to a T-MOB GSM variant (PN0713000)
Afaik, MIDs not having the same 3rd digit have different partition layout and different hardware. Make sure before proceeding.
---------- Post added at 09:31 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:15 AM ----------
Ok, it looks like Verizon variant have the same partition layout as the GSM variant
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2416038
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317621
So you should be fine changing your MID from PN0731000 to any PN071 MID and flashing a RUU.
But you will probably not have LTE because flashing RUU doesnt change frequency bands.

So does that mean I can convert my Verizon HTC One (M7) to an international M7 without any problems? I am not using a Verizon sim card so I do not need CDMA networks or whatever. If this is possible, will the process be the same as converting an unbranded One to the Developer Edition? I believe converting my Verizon One to the international one will also allow me to test out the ROMs available for it, correct me if I'm wrong.
P.S. I am S-OFF'ed with HBOOT 1.57
CID: VZW_001
MainVer: 5.28.605.2

@alray , I know u know a hell of a lot about the m7, but I gotta double check and ask just to make sure I'm reading this correctly; youre saying the Verizon variant of the M7 has the SAME partition layout as the UL M7?
I only ask because I own a Verizon M7, (love this phone) , and I've yet to try flashing S.Rom ONLY because Ive been told by many ppl in the M7 S.Rom thread that it will brick Verizon devices because of the partition layout "being different" according to them. (i know there will be data connectivity issues as it is a GSM rom and my device is a CDMA device, however that's not whAt I'm concerned about) , I just never flashed it as I was scared it would write things to the wrong partitions...

The Sprint one does have a different partition layout as opposed to the Verizon variant which is the same layout as the UL variant. Check the links in the quote at post #1. We already tried to convert in another thread, the ruu flashed fine and nothing flashed on the wrong partition but it wasn't booting correctly because of the CDMA radio
