Hi guys,
Its been a while but meh.
I just need to know how to get the best out of my battery on szeszo's CyanVIVO 10.1. I am currently using the conservative governor... Any tips to save battery?
Cheers,
I'm no expert but when I was on a rom like yours, my battery life seemed to go down when my brightness was up.
Yeah but my brightness is as low as possible... I have put my Max voltage to 768, see if that helps

How long of battery are you expecting out of your phone?

Hopefully about 10-15 hours on full charge.. I think the voltage change has helped. The thing that annoys me is that my phone loses battery even in standby. This didn't happen when I was on sense

10-15 hours is quite a lot. Try to buy an extra battery. :good:
I used different ROMs and collected a lot of tips-n-tricks for a better battery life.
1. The less home screens you have, the better. Each swipe action, though it sounds strange, requires up to 100% of your CPU which hits the battery life. If you fit most of your icons and widgets to 1-2 screens, it will save your battery, because you won't swipe back and forth.
2. No need to keep the brightness on the lowest level, if you are using the ROM which lets you calibrate the backlight levels. Spend 1-2 days on choosing a comfortable level of brightness for each level of outer light intensity.
3. Move all togglers for WiFi, GPS etc. to the main screen (Elixir 2 [Widget] is a good tool to create a control panel) or to the notification area. It will remind you that some functions are turned on, and you'll be able to disable them. I always disable WiFi in the office, because I have a decent amount of free Mbs to spend, and our WiFi access point is 'blinking' making my phone reconnect again and again... you know. Don't forget to turn off GPS if you don't use it frequently.
4. Don't let your widgets synchronize the data too often. It's better to use synchronization on demand.
My phone with CyanVivo 10.1 aboard is able to live for 15 hours without recharging which includes web browsing, books reading, calls making and a bit of gaming. I guess that's the time period you need...
If you want, I can tell more about the apps that I'm using.
Thanks for your replies guys, I can definately see an improvement in battery life, but how do i change backlight levels? I want to be able to game with a decent amount of battery left. I only have three home screens and my Bluetooth, GPS, and WiFi is off when unnecessary.

If you're using CyanVivo 10.1, you have this feature.
Open Settings -> Screen, choose Brightness (I can be mistaken about the actual option names, because my system language is different, but I hope it won't mislead you), check 'Auto' box in the dialog box and touch the second button below (Customize or Calibrate or whatever -- again, I don't know how it's called in your case). You'll see a list of brightness levels which your device can distinguish according to its light sensor. Shift all runners to the left. Walk around with the device in your hands, look at its screen under bright daylight, in the room near the window, in the elevator etc. As soon as you see that some level is not comfortable to you (too bright or too dark), open this screen again, look at the current level (displayed at the top of the window with runners) and adjust the setting for the corresponding brightness range.
Remember that each next brightness level must be higher than the previous one (you won't be able to move the runner more to the left than the previous one.
Hi,
Can you tell on what level current you have while phone is in standby? Using for example CurrentWidget.
I have at about 60mA level. And I think that it is too high. Battery drain at about 2 or 3 percents per hour.
Thank you for your answer.

Disable Google Now and Google Location History. They're draining the battery as hell.

DS Battery Saver
I tried DS Battery Saver, it helps very significantly, when I lock the screen, it auto-cut the wifi and data, and only wake up for a 1 min every x hours, I can set the plan, it's an amazing tool. Now I can use my phone for 15 hours in average.

I now have one week to the Nexus One bought secondhand. It suits me perfectly stand alone I have a little trouble with the battery life of the phone. Morning when the phone is 100% and I come out of school (14:30 hours) the battery is still around 20%. I find this a bit short. Ok, I'll use him at school (bit Internet, twitter refreshes every 9 minutes)
There is an automatic task killer, and that helps a bit but I think there are about 80% after 8 hours battery life is a bit much. Me internet is also constantly and I really like to keep.
The battery is probably not because I've got 2 batteries and they both give the same result.
Anyone have any idea what I can do?
I've been a bit inet searched but not really found anything. I did see somewhere a separate battery behind the phone, but I'm not waiting because that makes him a bit heavier and uglier.
10% per hour is pretty poor battery life. Are you running stock Android? 3rd party firmwares can give you much better battery life (the latest versions of CyanogenMod are using less than 1% per hour when fully idle).
But there are things you can check. Have you looked in Settings -> About phone -> Battery usage? If you are using Gingerbread and you look at the graph, if there is a solid line (or mostly solid) next to the "awake" portion, it means that your phone isn't properly entering its low powered state. Download spare parts from the market and check out partial wake usage under the battery history section of that app.
Please post your screen on time value from the battery menu so we can see how long your screen is on.
I would say to go and disable background data. Disabling this will definitely improve your battery life. Of course, you aren't going to get you twitter updates but aside from that, the battery life should improve.

While it is true that battery life would improve if Background Data was disabled (or limited via a program like Juice Defender), it doesn't take into account his actual problem. Unless it is a ton of apps constantly downloading that is keeping his battery usage in the toilet, this will only yield a slight improvement. I believe the cause is is an app (or apps) that prevent his phone from entering the low powered sleep state.
I don't know what stock Android gets from completely idle use (haven't run it since July last year), but a basic CyanogenMod install would sip between 1-2% per hour with the latest stable and the latest nightlies, some are reporting 1% every 2-3 hours when the phone is left alone (due to a fix that lets the microphones go into a deep sleep state).
Twitter refreshing every 9 minutes can not be helping, that said I doubt that's your entire issue but reducing the refresh rate should help quite a bit.
If you bought it used, it could be a bum battery. Not sure i know what apps work best to find out that info. Anybody?

The battery app in my sig is the only one that reads the chip inside your battery to tell if it's legit or not, what the battery age is, etc. Needs root to work though.

If you want to save max battery. Turn off 3G and only use 2G. Then lower brightness. Reduce frequency of app updates.
Those are the best tips. I keep brightness on auto. And I keep updates to once an hour for most things. It give me a solid day.

Thanks!
I downloaded setCPU and have it so that the processor goes down to 800mhz when the screen is off.
I am not sure if that is helping or not though.. still struggling with battery life.
Get JuiceDefender Ultimate. It helps to automatically turn off your Data Network and your wifi whenever your not using your phone, it reopens them periodically to check for any updates on ur apps. Smart app and it has saved me x2.3 of my battery life.
thanks!
Do you think juice defender ultimate is better than setCPU?

Here are some tips for prelonging battery life:
1 - Don't use 100% screen brightness at all times - 50-60% is enough, only increase it when you need to then lower it again.
2 - If your planning to use the phone for long periods, 30 minutes or more constant use then once again use 25% or so brightness
3 - When browsing/surfing the net use the lowest possible brightness as this is the biggest battery killer. Unfortunately our AMOLED screens suck a lot of juice when displaying white...
4 - Try to keep most, if not all applications to manual updates only. Otherwise decrease the update frequency.
5 - Use an alternative launcher. I find for example using LauncherPro uses less resources/cpu/ram than the default touchwizz launcher. Therefore using less ram/cpu saves battery!
6 - If your gonna game for hours then I suggest 0% brightness!
7 - Last but least watch your apps. Some apps are poorly optimized/coded and can take up a lot of ram and cpu which then eats away at your battery!
In my case, disabling fast dormancy helps save some battery. Tough not to a big extent.
Use Screen Adjuster or Voodoo display filter to further lower screen brightness.
Install and use app that has a night mode. Eg, config opera mobile to use a user css to render white text on black background.
Hey,
Before you should know that android collects statistics on your battery in order to "learn" its behavior so within the first days of use you will see a constant improvement if you battery performance.
there are also a few apps that runs in background and has the annoying habit to drain your battery:
wifi sharing
wi-fi sharing manager
social hub
try to disable those apps using gemini app manager or titanium backup.
Thanks for the great tips. My battery lasted almost 19 hours ever since I did everything everyone has mentioned!

YouTube is in no way a reliable source of information when it comes to technology. Unfortunately, neither are these forums, as witnessed by the masses of people that consistently state underclocking saves battery. I've posted about this several times before, and it seems no one ever listens or trusts me, so I'll try to lay it out as simple as I can. This effect is very well known by old school Linux nerds that would push their notebooks to get longer battery lives. Intel calls this effect HUGI -- Hurry Up and Get Idle. It essentially states that the faster a CPU runs, the more energy it consumes, but it *also* finishes it's work faster. Finishing work faster is important as it means that the CPU can go back to it's "Idle" state faster. The idle (or sleep) state uses virtually zero energy. Let me see if I can pull up the voltage table for a phone... here, found this for the Sprint Nexus S 4G and it looks to be accurate based off my memory of the CPU.
1000mhz - 1.25v
800mhz - 1.20v
400mhz - 1.05v
200mhz - 0.95v
100mhz - 0.95v
Now, let's say we have a task that takes 10 seconds to complete at 1000 MHz. 10 seconds times 1.25v is 12.5v (I know, I know, voltage doesn't work this way -- but it's a good enough approximation to demonstrate this effect (and it's to scale!) and I'm too tired to explain volt vs amp vs watt, it's 5am here). At 100 MHz, though, the *same exact task* would take 100 seconds! 100 seconds times 0.95v is, wow, 95v! By capping your CPU to 100 MHz (10% of max), you are effectively using (95/12.5=) 660% more energy to do the same task.
Now, there are scenarios where underclocking can help you, such as when your phones CPU is running at 100% 24/7 because of ****ty applications or leaked wakelocks. Although underclocking does appear to somewhat fix this, it's a complete ****ing hack and won't give you anywhere near the amount of battery life that you'd get by uninstalling the ****ty app and letting your phone go to sleep.
Make sense?
Sent from my Transformer TF101
Wow! Thanks! yeah it does make sense! I guess I should uninstall setCPU...I'm not sure what else its used for
thanks again

That's great, a very efficient way to save battery...
So it's basically like a modern pc running a core i5/i7 that runs at 2.5GHz when idle or when no power is needed. However when power is needed the intel Turbo boost kicks in & increases clock speed to 4.2GHz or even higher depending on what the user set it to.
In my case my PC cpu idles at 3.4GHz & when gaming or video editing it boosts to 4.7GHZ which I've manually set it to.

you can't tell yet. @Zepid, look for better battery stats xda edition and install it and post the screenshot for kernel and partial wakelocks, other and process.
It's hard to really tell with the default battery monitor, try BetterBatteryStats or GSAM from a full charge and go from there.
Also turn Power Saver on. It limits the CPU to 1.1GHz, and won't even affect gaming performance, or anything else for the matter except benchmarks. Click on the Power Saver option to customize what gets turned on/off.

You should allow more time, at least 2 or 3 updates, to iron out the biggest bugs. All manufacturers need that time, apple en Samsung too.
So our phone has a lithium Ion battery right? Well heres some things most people do not know about this type of battery.
Sorry if this has been posted before!
Li-ion batteries begin to degrade as soon as they start to be used.
One cycle is based on a 100% depth of discharge (e.g. discharging from full to empty), the potential number of charges can be increased by not allowing the battery to become fully discharged before topping it up. For example, allowing a fully charged battery rated at 500 cycles to drop to 50% before recharging could potentially triple the number of charge/discharge cycles to 1500 before the battery capacity degrades, thus increasing the batteries overall lifespan. However, this also means the battery will need to be plugged in more regularly.
This means that keeping the phone topped up, and not waiting for full discharges will potentially extend the battery life of the phone.
In no way am i saying this a definite thing, as i do not know, and this wont extend your screen on time if that's what your after, it will offer you the same amount of screen on time, for an extended period of time.
So to conclude, charging little and often can extend the life of your battery. In theory anyways. I read up on this from a few articles and websites, too many to reference, but this is the combined knowledge i found.
There are still a lot of people who thinks that you must discharge to empty.
This was required when NiCd batteries were in use. Li-Ion are different.
Thanks for posting that! :highfive:

Just kidding, WiFi and 3G are actually your battery killer. I'm currently using CM11 and can have 3 hours light gaming (Plague Inc.) with 700MHz CPU and 200MHz GPU settings. I've checked around and haven't really found a great answer.
I've had my Z1 for a week and a half. Always have stamina activated with WiFi by location on with advanced selection. Also running battery guru with WiFi management off (since the stamina has the option to be selective as to only activate if WiFi networks are present in area and battery guru does not). Have seen a little improvement with battery guru.
I'll grab screenshots tonight. First half of the week I was lasting half a day. I've had improvement but really not sure where I should be at since I've seen a lot of 1 day results seen here on XDA. Still amazed how I'll wake up silence my alarms and my phone loses 1% of battery in 5 minutes.my drain is incredible still and have screen settings as battery friendly as possible.
My settings are screen brightness as low as it can be. I have LTE in my area and LTE is usually always what my signal is. My GPS only activates when an app needs it and my auto refresh is set to being very selective usually once every 4 hours for calendar weather etc. I keep an eye on my WiFi just in case the auto turns it on and Im at work and can't connect to the secured county network etc. I'm doing my best just wanna see if I can squeeze every bit of the phone I can.
I'm not rooted running stock c6903 with current firmware and 4.3. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I know this is a common topic but really just wanted to ask and see what input I can get. So far though very pleased with the phone. I'm coming from a droid maxx on T-Mobile so I know I'll never get as good as that phone had but this camera is far worth the trade off.
Thanks everyone!!

Do not use the folowing:
Battery savers
Ram Cleaners
avoid the folowing:
apps that prevents sleep (find this in the battery info in your settings)
to extend battery life and avoid wear:
do not use when batter is 60 or above
try not to disturb charging (unplugging before it hits 90)
avoid heat, can cause battery to die quicker
some other things:
greenify is an app known to actualy work
try crystalizing apps, (from android tuner)
debloat your system (not recomended unless you know what your doing)
install a custom kernel (not recomended either)
hmm there is some ive missed but most of this i do , get 3/4 days with my xperia s and 6/7 with my Z1
if i remember anything ill add to this

Thanks I'm not rooted but I am rather proficient with advanced android operation. So your recommendation is to not use battery guru from qualcom? And I'm in the process of removing bloatware

im not too sure about battery guru
if it keeps your Z1 from sleeping dont use it
the majourity of ram cleaners and battery savers usualy dont work.
Ram Cleaners for some reason just make your device feel boggy and generaly ugh
battery savers usualy keep your device from sleeping or make your android feel sluggish
I don't believe battery guru keeps the phone from sleeping since its an app directly from Qualcomm designed for devices specifically with snapdragon processors due to the strong processor battery correlation. But as far as today goes this is where I'm at for bed time.
I had moderate use today considering I was in class from 830-430. I'm in the field tomorrow so I will post after my shift tomorrow. Here is today.

I'm using a mix of BatteryGuru, Lux Lite(for adaptive brightness), and Greenify.
IMO Greenify actually works by not exactly 'freezing' the app but letting it not run in the background.
As for Lux, it's handy mostly because it can adjust accordingly to where you are as the default adaptive brightness is clunky
just because its proprietary doesn't mean it has to work
without any battery saving techniques i come over 2days with: wifi always on, gps always on (for myxperia), mid screen brightness, auto sync, push mail from sony stock email on average usage.
with those energy saving techniques sony put in our device, i'll be far better. sending data in interval comes in really handy. personally i really don't like stamina mode (whatsapp + pushmail and gmail won't notify me as long as the screen is turned off) but will safe a huge amount of battery.
location based wifi annoys me too much.
ive bought this device just because of the large battery and wasn't disappointed. even heavy users should easily come over one day without charging
what's your biggest energy drain? 1% in 5 minutes is way to much. something seems to be fishy
Haha that's true. Wouldn't be the first time proprietary apps have steered me wrong. It says screen is my big energy eater which I'm perplexed by since I have brightness as low as possible. Do you have LTE in your area? Those are amazing numbers for not using stamina. Maybe I should start messing around with turning stamina off and switching things up.
