Xperia z side strip replacement. - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anybody knows if the side transparent plastic strips can be replaced and what is the procedure.

Surely it would damage the structural integrity and void your warranty and waterproofing if you did it yourself?

Yes you can replace it, I saw it on some online webshops a while ago.

Yes I saw them selling in some online shops but i'm wondering if there are only bonded do the water resistant frame as decorative strips or I need to disassembly the phone in order to replace them. I'm asking because I dropped my phone and there is dent on the upper strip.

You can change it.This side stripes is only for decoration and is not part of the body.

Great thank you very much

I'd actually like to do this but that video isn't the easiest to follow. Is there a step by step anywhere? Also where are you seeing the strips for sale?

Any link to purchase this?

My down strip is a little damaged. Is that changable ?

I believe he used running hot water to soften glue of the strips to make it easier to remove them.

Gahh i been looking everywhere for the volume side strip! I bought that one you linked but it did not have the strip for the volume side

some one must sell them
i am in the same dilemma. I bought a pack of side strips in black, from China. Took ages to arrival only to be left with one side strip not being changed.
The one that people are after is the VOLUME SIDE STRIP!
Someone know a retailer who sells a full set? Share please! :fingers-crossed:
My local phone repair shops are so unhelpful.
Thanks

I have a solution. I bought a DUMMY Z1 £12 on eby and took the side strip from that. Same quality and size! Fits like a glove.
I took the old glue of that one with degrease, and got hold of some double side film. carefully cut it out in strips to put on.
All Sorted.

Broken backsreen

Today, after my XZ fall of my nightstand on the carpet, my backscreen broke.
Does anyone know how I can get the screen out, and a new screen in?
Hope someone knows it....

Daaaaang... I think ure the first one who achieved a broken xz
I'm sorry, did you say backscreen? Does that mean the glass panel on the back, or something behind the screen? I've just never heard that term before.
Also, you mentioned... falling off a nightstand onto CARPET?
how could that have possibly broken anything, given the videos we've all seen of the XZ dropping on far worse?
Don't know why it broke, think landed just wrongly...
Its the back case,
Sorry, it's not clean, just wiped the broken corner....

Really cool video, can't believe the back would break landing on carpet, at least it looks easy to replace
Did you replace your glass?
or has anyone else had the back open and could perhaps comment on the technique, temperature needed ( it looks like a hairdryer rather than heat gun in the video) , how and where does the glass adhere? etc
thanks

[Q] Do the One speakers have protection over them?

Do anyone know,
is there a dust protection over the speakers from the One?
I work with alot metal and i am afraid that from grinding metal the speakers will get full of iron dust in no time.
If this dust will get into speakers trhu the holes i assume the working will be less.
If there is a protection maze between the holes and speakers this would prevent getting the iron dust in the speakers.
I doubt their is any protection, as you can buy a new speaker grill, it`s just held on with glue, also the magnet in the speaker will attract the iron fillings, maybe you can keep your phone in one of those waterproof plastic case, as a normal phone case will offer little protection.
John.
I think there is some sort of protection. According to the ifixit teardown:
http://d3nevzfk7ii3be.cloudfront.net/igi/No6NcTy3P1xTO64i.medium
I see some black tape thing covering the speaker grills. Can someone confirm?

I have my phone always in my pocket, and dont want a case becouse the use of the car dock.
I had a One X for 1 1/2 jear and with this phone it was going well.
With my new one the speakers become cracking after 1 week. I sended the phone back.
My phone is swapped for a new One.
So i dont know what the real defect was. But it was swapped under warrenty, so i dont think it was the influense from outside that broke my speakers. But i just want to be sure, dont like it to send this One back also after a week or so.

It's very easy to replace the back glass that does include a new lens. If it bugs you that much that's an option.

You have to heat up the back then the adhesive comes loose, make sure you order a back glass that has the adhesive already applied and then you reheat that when you put it on. I did it on my Xperia Z and it worked fine. It's basically just a piece of waterproof tape that keeps the water out.
Or mayb you can use some p2000 waterproof sandingpaper and allot of patients? Don't know for sure, replacing is always possible...

Hi!
I ordered this (http://www.aliexpress.com/item/for-...cover-back-housing-back-glass/1603707841.html) back plate two weeks ago and it arrived yesterday, my old one was broken.. I don't know if it's glass or hard plastic, but it's holding up great without any protection!
There is no shatter film on the backplate, so I think its not original but OK.
It was very easy to take the old one off; just some heat, a sharp knife and a guitar pick did the trick.
The new one came with adhesive, and after cleaning the frame it went right on!
All in all very nice, and easy install, may be original, may be not.
Press thanks if I helped you

Hi!
For copyright issues it's blurred on the site, but it's there. First I was worried about the quality of the logo's and branding, but when it arrived, all the logo's (Sony, Xperia, NFC icon, G camera icon) were all very crisp and detailed!
It looks like the real deal

[Q] Dust between LCD screen and touchscreen

Does anyone have this problem? My Xperia SP, when you looked in a room with lots of light (or in an outdoor environment) it is possible to realize a lot of sand between the touch screen and the LCD panel.
Not to mention my touchscreen, which displays a little "loose" the arc of the phone.
Someone managed to solve it? I've been thinking about dropping my touchscreen without removing your phone (with all care of the world, go through a credit card around the edges to loosen the glue) and then clean the LCD screen and the touchscreen using a soft brush, removing any sand present in that place. Is this a good idea?
Thanks in advance..
I saw a teardown of the phone and the lcd is not glued to the touchscreen this device is really easy to teardown but you won't get further then removing the back cover because of the side screws

I can partially remove the touchscreen without disassembly the phone? Without removing any connector, just to clean the screen.. can i do this?
You have to completely disassemble the phone to separate the digitaliser and the LCD as with most phones manufacturers tend to start with the screen and build up from there is RMA an option because that's the sort of thing covered by warranty

Is really easier? More than disassemble a Xperia Play?
@zenug I have never tried the play but from looking at photos I would say the SP is easier. It's not a difficult phone to disassemble nothing like as hard as certain fruit based phones. Just make sure you go slow there's nothing more frustrating than waiting for a new ribbon to arrive because you damaged one. There are videos on youtube of the teardown. One last thing vv important if it is sand or dust in between the LCD and digitaliser use a can of compressed air to blow it away sand will scratch the glass and ruin the LCD. Fingerprints and smears from cloths are almost impossible to remove. Think fitting a screen protector but cleaner, much cleaner. Try and avoid touching or wiping either surface if possible.
Sent from my C5303 using xda app-developers app
Well, I've cleaned the screen using my ninja technique (passing a card around the screen edges to loosen the glue, I used a brush to clean properly) and not to the problem appears again, I used a kind of "glue" to stick the edges and prevent the entry of dust on the screen. I do not think that is a definite "fix", because it is a McGyver technique that should be resolved by Sony.
sorry for my bad english

It is there to shield the display connectors. The best I think you could manage to do is file it down to just above the sensor.

Removing that bezel is not possible - the bezel, chassis, digitizer glass, and display panel form a single unit that cannot be disassembled without being destroyed.
The bezel is precision press-fitted into the solid metal chassis using a teflon compression washer. (The bezel has a lip that fits inside the opening of the chassis, and the teflon washer goes onto that lip. The two pieces are then compression-fitted in a precision press.) The bezel also acts the frame for the digitizer glass, and the display (which is actually a flexible sheet) is bonded to the digitizer glass using a transparent adhesive.
Thank you for the detailed answer!
cheers
Manfred

I took mine completely apart in about 5 minutes, it's very easy. You can very easily replace the battery, motherboard, and side button tact switch. Replacing the display on its own, however, is not possible - you must get a whole chassis+display assembly as removing the display from the assembly will destroy it.
