Hi all,
I'm having problems with NFC in my HTC One and perhaps you can help me in order to solve them.
I mean, I bought NFC tags (Myfare Classic 1K), and initially I worked with them very well using NFC Task Launcher and Tasker. My issue is that I can read these tags sometimes... but sometimes no. It's frustating. Of course I have activated NFC option in my mobile and I put it close to the NFC tag using the area of the rear camera (where is located the antenna).
I try to connect with my new bluetooh headphones by NFC (Sony MDR-1RBT) and sometimes connect... sometimes no.
My HTC One is not rooted and bought free.
Any idea? Help please.
Thanks a lot!!
You probably have the same issue as I do. We've got faulty NFC chips. I'm sending mine in for warranty soon
I looked for information about NFC problems with HTC One but I didn't found nothing. Bad NFC Chips? Oh my God! Is this usual and reported?
I thought that perhaps it would be something related to software (i.e. some process running in background)... but if we are talking about a hardware issue I'm going to worry a lot.
Could we expect news with new release of android? What do you think?
Thaks a lot for your answer!
Best regards
Did you unlock your screen before using the tag? U must unlock first or the tag wont work
Yes, I try it after unlocked screen. I am not able to say when NFC fails or woks, but I try to read tags with unlocked screen.
Thanks

For me, mine I think is a little loose. I cna read NFC tags if I put it near my camera and press it really hard against the phone. That seems to push the NFC chip back into place and I hear the "Boop" when it detects the chip. A fully working will beep instantly upon contact.

Obviously that would mean a hardware issue. In my case, doing always the same I get different results. I don't press the tag against the phone, and trying with the same tag I don't get the same result (sometimes reads the tag and sometimes not). It's crazy.
I haven't been able to get nfc to work either. I don't have any proper tags but I tried my MasterCard paypass that worked fine in the past. Can somebody with working NFC try to scan their MasterCard with paypass and let me know if it works?

I can't seem to find a straight answer to this so I'm starting a new thread.
With the JF3 firmware the GPS on my 2 phones is often not very accurate or completely loses it's position under what could be considered good conditions for a gps reciever.
Did the new firmware fix this problem?
Please only reply if you actually noticed the problem and can compare it with the new firmware.
Using GPS test is the phone now able to use signals with an snr of lower than 22?
No, it refuses to use GPS with snr under 22, as long as you don't locked them when they were higher. In that case it keeps them downto snr 17, and then drops them.

No and no....
Well that sucks, let's hope it's not a hardware problem
In contrast... I just flashed G3 and my GPS now locks in about 5 seconds.
It doesn't lock below 22... But for me it now doesn't need to.

Mine also locks in a few seconds, but it loses the lock again after a while. Then it locks again, the lock disappear, and so on. Completely useless as navigator.
This is quite worrying, because it suggests more than just a firmware problem.
To those who have flashed and it hasn't worked, some suggest flashing using the repartition option.
But this experience is why I don't want to flash my phone. If there's a hardware error, I can't rightly be taking it back.
Might get a HTC Desire and put the extra few quid up towards a 32 Gig memory card.

on further testing... My phone does use satellites of 19 to 22... But only if it is connected to less than 8 other satellites.
And I don't seem to have a disconnect issue.
Crabby
Yes the problem isnt that it wont connect but that the thing often thinks you are on an offramp or a road next to the highway you are travelling on because the sinal is too weak/inaccurate. I tested this with 3 different nav programs and get the same result.

Let me get this straight, using GPS Test, you do see orange satellites through regular use?
This is all beginning to make sense now.
Unlike HTC which seems to use a GPS chip that is capable of 12 Satellite fixes, Samsung is using a GPS chip that can only lock onto 8.
I would think therefore that what it is trying to do, is to select the 8 strongest satellite signals which means it's already at a disadvantage, because as soon as you walk behind a tall building, it has to work to try and find and lock onto others. But when you walk past the building it goes back to the other satellites.
This probably explains why everything is jumping around. Because it's not using the weaker satellites in the distance until its too late.
Maybe you guys have the problem of "you hold it wrong"
when I put the phone's face upward, I got only 2-3 satelline locked
stick my phone up => 10 satellites locked and most of them are green
cheers
No - I have installed JG3 and still have the same problems. GPS is practically useless.
Its nice I still have my HTC touc hd - I get a pinpoint lock immediatelly.
Have you tried to use an external bluetooth GPS device ?
Don't think it's possible to use an external gps with android. How do you tell the os or app to use the external one instead?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
JG3 seems a lot better for me. Still not perfect, but better than previous versions were I only lost a GPS a couple of times opposed to ALL the damn time !
Well guess I just need to flash my phone and try it myself. I wish Samsung would just release an official update already.

I got the code of this website. Why would i lie? I've had my phone like 2 days and i was sick of getting no gps so i went on the hunt for a fix and there it was.
Google skyhook if you wish.
Anyone else tried playing with the accuracy value in that menu? It seems like it has an effect on locking satellites but I'm not sure.
I was looking into NFC and what things you can do with it. I found it pretty interesting and wanted to try it out. I did some google searching to see what the status is on the Samsung Captivate i-897 and found the wiki here. It states that the NFC is "Not Known"
Now is there a possibility to get it working some how? Or should I hold off on getting those NFC tags?
I think it would be pretty cool to set them up all over the place.

I'm not sure if the Cappy can have it but it would need to be built in the kernel if I remember right and it's not something that has been done for the Captivate yet (if ever).
sgh-i897 does not have NFC hardware. you can't flash it to make it operate as an NFC device.
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Near_field_communication
NFC is an extension of RFID technology. it operates by using inductive loops that communicate at a different frequency and rate than bluetooth, wifi, or cellular data networks.

And what kind of issue is that ? Mine doesn't show it too and I'm very happy it doesn't (why would one want another place in status bar taken ?). Also, why do you need Android Beam option ? If you tick the NFC option, everything works as it's supposed to, doesn't it ?
Well i tried with other phones, it doesn't detect my phone, i tried with other HTC One user too.........will it detect like bluetooth or should we add the devices and thereon proceed? But i've seen in forums with other users getting this icon, so i thought mine isnt working. I tried to pair with Sony devices and it didnt detect mine.

Mine doesn't show the icon as well and everything works fine (GSM 4.2.2). I can use NFC in order to connect and beam to my galaxy nexus without problems. The only thing is that the NFC chip in the One sits right behin the camery, while in other phones its inside the battery. So you have to position the phones right.

20 cm? Not really. 20 mm maybe.
Hold the phones back to back.
I think there isnt a 'n' logo in 4.2.2 because a lot of people who updated to 4.3 from it were asking what the n logo was but still nfc is on just no status bar logo?

On my GSM One this N(escafe)-icon was added with 4.2.2 update, but it has been removed by a minor update only some days later. Maybe some carrier models didn't receive that minor update or skipped the first one.

That's the way it works On some devices you also need to know where the NFC chip is. On One it's placed right above the camera, while most other phones have the NFC integrated into their battery (GNex). So you might have to hold the devices in an awkward way in order to get a connection.
I just got the Xperia ZR a month ago. And I loved the 4.1.2 update that already came preloaded with it. The bluetooth, the Wifi and almost everything was working perfectly. Till I decided to upgrade it to the latest 4.3 [10.4.1.B.0.101] upgrade. A lot of people, like me, had issues with the bluetooth unable to detect other devices or be detectable to other devices. And I've seen plenty of complaints on the Sony Mobile blog/forum, too. A lot of them got their phones replaced, re-furbished, re-serviced by Sony; which didn't really solve anything. And a lot of people saying that the temporary fix was to apply loads of pressure on the NFC logo near the flash at the back of the device. Here, I'll tell you a short but permanent fix.
Open your device. Remove your Micro-Sim and SD card (if any) inside and then apply pressure on the area near, where the 'MIC 2' is written. Not much, just a little. And then insert it back. Now put your SIM and SD card back inside, and your bluetooth will work.
I guarantee you it will.
Didn't work!

the trick does work but for some time only..i have got the mobile replaced twice now and all the three mobiles have the same problem..on my mobile nfc also does not work..the pairing does take place but the file or music whatever u want to send does not get thru..sony has really messed up with this great phone..due to the bluetooth problem i am not able to buy a bluetooth headset..i wanted to bluetooth headset as the mobile does heat up after talking for around 10-15 mins..does anybody else is also facing the same problem??
sounds like there is one hell of technical failure with the bluetooth on the ZR...
the connection between the antena and the motherboard i suspect is bad... that spot you mentioned is probebly where the connection is, so applying pressure there reconects it, but only for a while as i pops back out again later.
Not work, im very dissapointed with my ZR
Same here - does not work.

Therefore I think the problem is in the software. Bad driver for bluetooth or baseband. For me wi-fi works fine. Bluetooth sometimes works, but mostly not.
Okay, after weeks of doing this (or writing the post), I'm still facing the Bluetooth problem.
I heard some people have bluetooth working flawlessly on CyanogenMod but I don't want to root or put a custom ROM just yet.
For me the pressing just below flash hole seems to fix, but only while pressing. Bluetooth cuts out if I release pressure. Does anyone have a disassembly video or manual? If we can find out how to open it we can fix the problem.

I discovered a bug on the S5.
NFC deactivates itself.
For example: I installed "banking card reader" from Google Play.
I turn on NFC. I read a NFC tag.
Android says that NFC is still on. BUT IT IS NOT.
I try to read a new NFC tag and nothing happens (this proves that NFC is off).
If I turn off NFC, and turn on NFC again, I can again read ONE NFC tag.
Android says that NFC is still on. BUT IT IS NOT.
I try to read a new NFC tag and nothing happens (this proves that NFC is off again).
I think you understand what I mean.
This happens also when power saving is OFF. This happens also when the battery is FULL.
I have no clue how to stop NFC from deactivating itself.
Does NFC deactivate itself also on your S5???
If you can read a NFC tag MORE THAN ONCE in sequence, it means NFC does not deactivate itself on your S5.

Will try to research the problem further.
Nobody else here is having this NFC bug? Did anyone find a solution?
For the record I have experienced this this issue before, I used to use NFC Tags at home, at my work and in my car with my old galaxy nexus but that's an impossible task with my S5 (GM900M), the NFC keeps disabling itself it is a annoying to turn it on every time I want to use a tag. I am NOT rooted, knox is 0x0, and stock rom, in other words my S5 is a virgin. This could not be an issue but a security feature, by disabling NFC the system avoids the chance of getting info stole.
Same here, you can turn off the screen and it would work again
Having the same issue. NFC would work once then stop. i can either turn it off then back on. it would scan once then stop.
Turning the screen off then on, i can scan an NFC tag ONCE, then it stops working. very annoying.
